The wonderful cover for Cinidi’s Chocolate Valentine by Beverly Reichman is thick, as are the pages, and can definitely handle those sticky fingers that will want to reach out and touch the animals inside.
I found myself chuckling as the critters, Cindi and Pitty Pat, were decorated in costumes and paraded through the neighborhood. I love that creatures of all kinds and disabilities were shared in such a fun way.
And…we are left with a question…Have you ever changed your mind about things you might not like? Sure to inspire your child to answer and I would love to know what they come up with.
I love that some of the proceeds will be donated to animal rescue and shelter organizations.
I voluntarily reviewed a free copy of Cindi’s Chocolate Valentine by Beverly Reichman.
With Valentine's Day coming up, this is a cute read for children aged 3-6 years old as it is a fun cute picture book and who doesn't love dogs, especially at that age. The story starts with Cindi's owner dressing up and dancing around and roses and candles. She wonders what the day is as it can't be Christmas again already. It turns out it is Valentine's Day. Cindi's owners are really in the holiday spirit and decide to dress Cindi and her BFF Pitty Pat in cute little pet outfits. Cindi and Pitty Pat think they look ridiculous and are embarrassed as their owner parades them through their small town. There is a new dog next door named Chip and he wants his own Valentine in the form of Cindi. Can Chip surprise Cindi with a little Valentine gift of her own turn her into a lover of Valentine's Day and change her mind about the sappy love stories? Find out in this cute indie picture book written by Beverley Reichman and illustrated by Janine Rhodes.
You are looking for a lovable animal book for your child or children. Cindi's Chocolate Valentine does a beautiful job of showing your child that changing your mind about liking a holiday or not. It does it through a dog getting dressed up and learning what Valentine's day is.
Though Cindi is unsure what Valentine's day is or what is going on. She has paraded around with her buddy, Pitty Pat, and is outfitted together. She does not seem to like it one bit. But will Cindi change her mind?
The pictures are done well. You can find a way to enjoy a holiday or find out what you're unsure about and decide to change your mind. Maybe meeting someone new is hard, and that someone does something to help transform your mind about it. The pictures are colorful. Ever feel like something you did but did not like at first. Maybe something made you change your mind. That's okay to change your mind.
Cindi's Chocolate Valentine is a fun and enjoyable book; It just likes some suitable lessons to teach children or a child. Parents will enjoy this book as well. It is a quick and easy read. This book will show you, love, though animals, what Valentine's day is about.
Cindi’s Chocolate Valentine is a cute little puppy-love story. A pretty dog, named Cindi, and her best friend, Pitty Pat the kitty cat, find themselves being adorned in crazy Valentine’s Day inspired accessories and whisked outside by their ‘people’. Cindi didn’t like Valentine’s Day! She is mortified to be dressed in a crazy heart-shaped headband and feathery collar and seen by all her neighborhood animal friends. They stare in disbelief, adding to Cindi’s embarrassment. Especially when her people introduce her to the handsome new neighbor dog, Chocolate Chip. But the next day, Cindi is pleasantly surprised by a thoughtful note and gift left on Chip’s fence and changes her mind about Valentine’s Day.
This is a sweet children’s book showcasing diverse animals, including a chicken, a circus pup, two little dogs with wheely-carts for back legs, and more. The text might be a little difficult for younger readers, due to the many animal names, but the story and the full-page illustrations are charming. The overall theme of the book is that it’s okay to have a change of heart.

Cindi’s Chocolate Valentine by Beverley Reichman is a very cute book about a dog, Cindi. Her people parents dressed Cindi and her kitty friend Pitti Pat up for Valentines day, and I’ll tell you, they didn’t like it so much. Especially if Chip was gonna be there. But if he was, Cindi might just change her mind about this pink and red with chocolate Holiday. I love this book and I think children will as well when they see this adorable dog on the cover. And on the inside this book is even more beautiful. Janine Rhodes does a fabulous job with the bright vivid illustrations throughout this book. I love the colors and I think your child will sure pick this one for Valentines Day. This would be awesome for school and daycare libraries as well. Cindi’s Chocolate Valentine by Beverley Reichman gets a Four Stars from me.

Special note: As with most children’s books I review, I share them with my daughter. This review and rating is a joint effort by the two of us. 🙂
We thought it was cute how Cindi and Pitty Pat experienced embarrassment over what their owners wanted them to wear. As humans, many of us can relate to outfits our parents made us wear that were not cool, hip, or whatever words kids are using now. 🙂
We also liked the diversity in animals. My daughter’s favorite canine was the dog with two different colored eyes. She told me that was very rare. She thought it was nice to see a dog with one eye and two dogs using walkers. I agree; it was nice to see the variety of animals.
While some illustrations were a hit, others struck out with us. My daughter pointed out Pitty Pat’s arm, pointing at the calendar, and remarked it looked odd. She also asked me why the older woman had a mustache and goatee like her dad. Okay, truth be told, I laughed at her question. I can see what she means. I have to explain those are wrinkle lines.
The colorful note from Chocolate ‘Chip’ was lovely, and so was the heart-shaped dog-bone.
Final Note: Cindi’s Chocolate Valentine by Beverley Reichman is listed for children ages 3-7. While young children will enjoy the pictures and storyline, I think the text will be complex for them to read unassisted.
Cindi's Chocolate Valentine Includes Pets in the Valentine's Day Fun. I love books that illustrate human-like thoughts and behaviors from the pets' points of view. From learning about holidays--to feelings of embarrassment and loveable love interest style crushes--this book hits on some of the little happenings of Valentine's Day that our family dogs and cats see--and could very well feel--as they experience the holiday with us.
Illustrations Load the Book With Valentine's Day Hearts and Colors. Illustrator Janine Rhodes gives little readers a lot of colorful reds and pinks--with hearts and flowers and Valentine's Day-themed pages. Readers will be able to see the emotions that the author shares in the story through the illustrated expressions of the characters.
Would I Recommend Cindi's Chocolate Valentine by Beverley Reichman? Cindi's Chocolate Valentine is a fun Valentine's Day book for dog and cat lovers. The story will undoubtedly bring some giggles as Cindi and Pitty Pat face the embarrassment of wearing Valentine's Day-themed pet clothes in front of friends--and some "awws" as Cindi receives her special Valentine. It is an adorable story for imaginative little ones who love animals.
I received a copy of this book from the author or publisher for use in a blog review. All opinions are my own.
Cindi's Chocolate Valentine is a cute story about a dog who does not quite understand what all the hype at her home surrounding Valentine's Day is all about. Why all the fuss and why does her owners dress her and her best friend Pitty Pat, the kitty, up? Not only that but they are taken for a walk all around town with their silly Valentine's costumes on. All the neighbors will see, and Cindi is super embarrassed especially when the cute new dog next door sees them.
I like that Cindi had Pitty Pat, someone to share her embarrassment with. I also think we can all relate at some time or another being in or doing something we found embarrassing that isn't at all but just a little different than what we are used to or only made up in our heads. The outcome of Cindi's little outing is that she caught the eye of the cute dog and now maybe Valentine's Day isn't all that bad. This was a cute story about pets, and the holiday Valentine's Day I think young kids would enjoy.

Cindi's Chocolate Valentine was a hit with my almost 2-year-old granddaughter and me. She was particularly taken with it because she had been learning about Valentine's Day and " helping" decorate the house.
The story centers around Cindi, a dog, and her friend Pitty Pat, a cat. They are quite outraged when they are dressed up for Valentine’s Day, especially since they might run into Chip, Cindi's new neighbor. Oh, the embarrassment!
Beverley Reichman did an excellent job of mixing a variety of animals into the story. The part I really appreciated was the illustrator’s depiction of the different dogs. Dogs of all kinds, shapes and sizes were there, including those in doggie wheelchairs and one with two distinctly different colored eyes. What a lovely method to illustrate and introduce physical differences and impairments to children.
Cindi's Chocolate Valentine is a pleasant, sweet story with appealing, innovative pictures that will be pleasing to both children and adults.

Yeyyy the first valentines adventure of February. How adorable is Cindi? As I was reading I wished my dogs got along with my cat as much as Cindi did with Pitty Pat. It was adorable how the owners were elderly and still so much in love. The curiosity was intriguing until you got to the next page to discover all the romantic gifts of valentines.
I giggled so much at the headbands. If only I could do dress up with my own fur babies. It was really cute and adorable and the illustrations matched this so well. I loved the thought of can chickens laugh. Can they?
It was lovely to see the other friends of the pals and also how adorable their names were. The embarrassment was adorable. I loved that there was snow in February this gave me much hope that we may still have snow this year it’s not too late.
It was romantic with the heart shaped bone and the lovely roses are read poem attached. The key message on the end to ask your children was lovely. A really easy read for young children who love animals.
Cindi can't believe that she and her friend Pitty Pat are expected to go out in public wearing the fancy feathered collars that Ms. Joan and Mr. David have given them. What will all of their friends think? Worst of all, what will the new neighbor dog think? Chip, with the 'sleek Chocolate brown curls and hazel eyes'.
Children will love seeing the different kinds of dogs that are in Cindi's neighborhood, but there are other animals there also, so how will they all celebrate this special day of love and friendship? Easy-to-read text and bright colorful illustrations make Cindi's Chocolate Valentine a perfect book for young readers, and I can see it being used as a teaching tool also. They can count how many animals there are, and they can also pick out the animals that are different.
I received a copy of this book from the author via iRead Book Tours. There was no obligation for a positive review. These are my own thoughts.
What was that sound? And why were there flowers and pink balloons everywhere? It’s Valentine’s Day!
In this little story, Cindi the dog and her housemate, Pitty Pat, learn all about the holiday of love, which meant donning silly scarfs and flowery caps. Such confusion all around. As soon as the two went outside, they noticed everyone staring and laughing at them. Well, of course, look how they were dressed.
But when a certain handsome dog that Cindi’s had her eye on takes notice, suddenly, it didn’t seem so bad. It certainly changed her mind about Valentine’s Day.
This was a nice, little story. The images were simple, colorful, and child-like with their basic shapes and strokes of crayon. A good read!
This book is absolutely adorable and perfect for children aged 3-6. I could just imagine my cat being forced to wear a heart-shaped headband and fancy feathered collars. Cindi and Pitty Pat were much more cooperative than my cat would have been.
Cindi and Pitty Pat wonder what their friends will think of them as they are paraded down the street in this “finery”. They are so embarrassed. Cindi is even more concerned about what Chip, the new dog next door, will think. Cindi has had her eye on Chip. Oh, how Cindi does not like Valentine’s Day.
There is a wonderful variety of dogs in the lovely colorful illustrations. Children will love lingering over each page and discussing the scene on each one. Each page is a teaching opportunity.
CINDI'S CHOCOLATE VALENTINE by Beverly Reichman was a simply adorable Valentines book. I liked how the author used animal characters in this book as it made the book extra cute. The author did a great job explaining Valentines day in a way that young kids could understand while also entertaining them with all the different pet characters. The aspect of the pets being chosen from Cindi Features a New Friend contest was quite cool. Additionally, I really liked that 18% of the Cindi series book sale proceeds are donated to animal rescue and shelter organizations.
This is such an endearing story that happens on Valentine's day. The protagonists, a dog and a cat are cute and very well portrayed in the story. I love how the author started the book by describing the beautiful atmosphere in the house and the quality of the relationship that has a strong influence for everything that later happens in the story.
The illustrations are bright and colorful, well executed. A great gift for a child for Valentine's Day or any day.
What a lovely book! The author skillfully tells the heartwarming and fun story of Cindi, a dog, and her friend Pitty Pat, a cat, who wonder what the fuss is all about on Valentine's day. Beautifully illustrated with valuable lessons, this sweet tale is absolutely adorable and perfect for younger children.
Cindi's Chocolate Valentine is a cute little story by Beverley Reichman. It is part of the author’s Cindi the Teenie Chiweenie series. I enjoyed Cindi’s little tale of finding about this special holiday called Valentine’s Day. This sweet pup sets out with her best friend, Pitty Pat, the kitty cat, and others of what this day really means. It is a fun little adventure with various characters of different animals. It was entertaining to read what Cindi finds out along the journey. I could not help but smile throughout the book. I really liked it.
Cindi's Chocolate Valentine is illustrated by the very talented artist, Janine Rhodes. I enjoyed seeing the visual of what Cindi and her friends looked like. The pictures are a perfect addition to bring this story to life. They are beautifully colorful and creative.
I am giving Cindi's Chocolate Valentine a very well deserved five plus stars. I highly recommend it for readers who are between the ages of four and eight, as well as, those who are excited about Valentine’s Day. It would be a great addition for annual Valentine reading in a classroom or local library’s story telling time. I will be looking forward to reading more by Beverley Reichman and her other books from the the Cindi the Teenie Chiweenie series, in the future.
I received a paperback copy of Cindi's Chocolate Valentine from the publisher, but was not required to write a positive review. This review is one hundred percent my own honest opinion.
Cute book. Good illustrations. Little kids got a bit lost with so many characters. My niece and nephew (5 and 2) didn't really know what was going on at any point after the pets were made to wear outfits. They did enjoy pointing out the different animals though.
Such a cute and adorable story! Cindi's Chocolate Valentine mainly teaches us that "you are allowed to change your mind" and it's okay if you do. Plus, the book cover is totally captivating!
