The Eden Saga #3

Making Eden

Rate this book
In post-apocalyptic Chicago, only the Cleansed survive.

Seventeen-year-old Ivy would do anything to save her mother—giving up her mutant abilities in a Cleansing ceremony is a price she’s willing to pay. It’s the only way to get her hands on the medicine her mother needs.

Asher hopes the Cleansing will secure a safer life for his girlfriend, Ivy—one where she’s less likely to get slaughtered for simply walking down the street. A life where she can get legally married, ideally, to him.

But Ivy’s Cleansing goes horribly wrong. She's vanished, and Asher has no idea where the missing mutants have gone. Will Asher and Ivy find each other and discover the truth about the treatment before more mutants disappear?

The YA dystopian adventure is perfect for fans of Divergent, The Darkest Minds, X-men, and Sweet Tooth.

I read the first two books in this series one after the other, and had to pre-order this one to find out what happened next. I loved the way each book in the series has focused on two different people. The story was engaging from the first page and took you along for a ride. You find yourself on the edge of your seat, trying to guess where the twists and turns are going to take you. I adored the ending, adored the way the series came together and the world building along the way. This is a must read for anyone who loves dystopian or post-apocalyptic stories. Very very well written and highly engaging and recommended!

Making Eden is definitely my favourite instalment of the trilogy!

I loved Ivy’s character and her personal growth throughout the story.
At the beginning, all she wants is to get cured so she can have a decent life with her boyfriend Asher, live like a regular citizen, and get a cure for her mother’s mutation.

But by the end of story, she realises what matters the most in life (I won’t say much on this point to avoid spoilers!)

This was the perfect ending to the Eden Saga!

The only thing wrong with this book is that it's the last one. And I guess it's too short. It wouldn't be too short if it wasn't the last one though. So, yeah, being the end of the story is the only problem.

A generation after the events of the first two books (which basically introduce the new world order versus the mutants), the world is better but still not all as it should be. There is a system in place to take away mutations so everyone can be normal, but while that might be a gift to some, it is also a requirement for citizenship, to get a job, to get married even. Making Eden explores these ideas, asking us to consider basic human rights. Is it right to force people to adhere to what the government considers normal? And is it worth it? While some mutations might cause harm to their bearers, others, like the ability to heal, seem beneficial to the society. To make things more complicated, the head of this new government is the same person who sat at the helm of the old government that tracked down mutants and killed them. Could he really have changed so much?

I loved reading the stories of Ivy and Asher. They both had some things to learn and some growing to do like any good coming-of-age story. And they both learned to own what they believed for themselves versus what they had grown up thinking or being taught. It was quite beautiful actually. I wish we heard a little more about their parents, but there's always a reread of books 1 and 2 for that. And I'm looking forward to more great stories from KRS McIntire!

I received an ARC from the author and have reviewed it willingly.

Full disclosure, somehow I haven't read #1 and 2 but I was able to follow the story in 3 quite well. A little 'background' might have been missing, but it wasn't truly vital to the story. Ivy has decided to take the cure so she can get medicine to help her mom who has fallen ill. Ash is all set to plan their future together, but does Ivy know his plans?

A lot of growing up, family, adventure, and revealing happens in the final book. What will become of Ivy after she takes the cure, will she and Ash have their happily ever after? Will Kane and the government ever be exposed for their evil doings?

I recommend this book and the series deeply.

I received an advance review copy of this book, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

Making Eden

Making Eden is a fun and satisfying conclusion to the fast-paced and hopeful dystopian, The Eden Saga.

Fans of McEntire’s work will enjoy the optimistic lens that makes the usual dark and gritty post-apocalyptic/dystopian genre refreshing.

Familiar characters we loved to root for return and intriguing new characters are introduced as the fight for mutant equality and freedom and a better future for all concludes.

I can’t wait to see what has store for readers next!

I received an e-ARC in exchange for an honest review. All thoughts and ideas expressed are my own.

This is book three of The Eden Saga series and the main characters are Ivy Lee and her best friend and boyfriend Asher. They live in the ruins of post-apocalyptic Chicago, where only the Cleansed survive. Mutants are not given identity cards allowing them food or jobs and must eke out a life somehow. Many mutants follow the popular leader Kane and go through Cleansing, where they work for The Mutants in Service to Society (MSS) program for six months and then are given a jab which removes their mutations, thus allowing them to become a citizen with full rights. Ivy’s mother is also a mutant, a very powerful one, but she and her father were part of the Resistance long ago and her mutation is now slowly killing her. Years ago, mutants would be hunted down and killed in mass executions under Kane’s orders and his Wardens of the Watch. Asher and Ivy hoped that her going through with Cleansing, would allow them both to work and earn funds to buy the medicine needed to help her mother survive. She would also be able to legally get married to him and live in the apartment he has just bought to start their life together in. But her Cleansing doesn’t go the same way as everyone else’s and she is not there when her parents, Asher and his parents are there to see her graduate and parade across a stage with all the other former mutants who have also gone through Cleansing.
They haven’t seen her for six long months and to find her missing at such a key stage is shocking. Her parents question the lady in charge, but are soon threatened back about the presence of her mother there, when the occasion is only for citizens! They are told that Ivy’s name was not on any programme and she was never there. They have no idea where she is, but they certainly don’t trust the Wardens or Kane. The treatment Ivy should have been given, was interrupted by some other staff in the centre who wanted her to confirm her real name and her parents real names, otherwise they could not give her the injection. They knew exactly who she was and Kane wants her for her mutant abilities, especially if they are anything like her mother’s! Her mother had the ability to control the environment and make life come back to an area that had been killed and contaminated by the war. But Kane and his Wardens had destroyed it many years ago. Now the Resistance is only five people, in their area, although there are a few others elsewhere, but not many. Most have been pulled into the idea of a more comfortable life and less abuse regarding their powers.
Ivy must escape the plans that Kane and the Wardens have for her and at least has a slight chance to use one of her abilities to hold them off, so she can escape. She is only in a medical gown, like all the others taking part in the final part of the Cleansing were made to wear for some reason. She daren’t go straight home and is very obvious in her gown. She sneaks into the Lighthouse, an underground and illegal church, which offers services for all denominations since religion has now been banned in New America, but also offers help where needed. The pastor’s son Bishop finds her hiding and helps her out with clothes and somewhere to stay and she gets interested in the paper he writes and is responsible for sending it out all over the city and beyond. Asher meanwhile has been handed a flyer by protestors outside the Cleansing ceremony building, all about some named fifteen mutants who have disappeared, like Ivy, from this program and never heard from again. What is Kane doing with them and where are they being kept? Both Asher and Ivy will be making their own discoveries about this and trying to locate where the mutants are being hidden. What they find will utterly shock them all and the wider public, as they send images out to the world which Kane cannot stop. This book is the end of this series and didn’t end quite like I thought, as some of the characters seemed like they were going in other directions, but it gives you a satisfying conclusion to their struggle. I received an ARC copy of this book from BookSprout and I have freely given my own opinion of the book above.

I had the privilege of reading ARCs for this whole series. Book 1, SAVING EDEN was KRS McEntire's debut novel. It's been an incredible experience to see her talent improve over the course of the series.

I really enjoyed this one! There's more action than the first two I'd say. Slightly more romance though it's very light through the series. We get to see the next generation from Saving Eden and Finding Eden, but with the original main characters still very involved. It's YA so there's nothing really intense or scary. I'd say the series is definitely appropriate for middle grade as well. It was a nice closing to the series but would love to see more!

Some quotes:
Asher could feel his face growing warm with embarrassment. “Please don’t make this weird.”
“You’ve already sailed that ship, buddy,”
.
"Please don’t try to play hero again.” Ivy’s words were muffled due to her face pressing against his chest.
“Then you’ll have to promise not to require a hero,” Asher said, kissing her again on her soft, perfect lips.
.
"Everyone has options,” Angela said while pushing open the door to the exit. “Some people's options may not be as pretty as other peoples, but no one can take away your right to choose."

Making Eden picks up a generation after the end of the second book. In order to have the ability to live a normal life, including working and getting married, a person must be cleansed and forgo any mutant abilities they have. Ivy is ready to give up her abilities in order to get medicine for her mother, while her boyfriend Asher is backing her up in hopes they can one day get married. But things go horribly wrong when Ivy disappears. Now Asher needs to figure out what happened to her.

This is exactly what I want in a dystopian series. We have a new world order that the government has put in place, and people rallying against it. This book makes you think a little about basic human rights and how much society is willing to let go of in order to be safe. I greatly enjoyed the thought-envoking plot the author has created to showcase what a true dystopian society would look like.

This book is the last in the series, but doesn't feel like it should be. We have a corrupt government, less by the original leader of the old government, and an entire world where danger is all around. People still dislike mutants, and they still live in fear, so it didn't feel like the book needed to be the last one.

What an amazing end to this series.
This book is about the children of the characters from the previous books and it was fun to still see those characters as well.
The concept of the book is something I really like and it's written greatly. In this world there are mutants because of testing they did in previous generations, the world had a war and everything changed and fell under a dictatorship. Now people have to find a way to free themselves.
There is a little bit of everything, romance / love, friendship, family, finding yourself, fighting for what you believe, special "powers", unexpected twists...
The book reads really easy and fast and I finished it in 1 day.
If there is one thing I would change, it would be that I want more! I wish it was a bigger book. Some more character development, more story about them getting to know eachother and all.
I definitely recommend this book to anyone who likes ya dystopian fantasy!

I liked that Ivy was Angela’s daughter. I actually gasped out loud.

Not sure about the ending of this. A bit cliche but I did enjoy the series overall. This book was better than the second in my opinion, I liked the cleansing.

WWW:
- Ivy was quite a developed character in comparison to the others
- Ivy being Angela and Jesse’s daughter was fun
- I liked the concept of the Cleansing and the development of the government
- I liked the whole section when they were in the M.S.S
- ivy’s powers were cool!

EBI:
- the Wardens suddenly developing morality at the end seemed to be a bit of a plot hole… they killed innocent people throughout the series so for them to suddenly gain a conscious was a tad flawed
- I didn’t like that the two 17 year olds got engaged (whilst I appreciate 17 year olds do get engaged)
- I didn’t like that the main villain just disappeared into thin air. I don’t think he’d have given up that easily.

If you haven’t read Saving Eden and Finding Eden yet what are you waiting for? Making Eden was the perfect finally to the series. K.R.S. McEntire does it again introducing new characters while keeping you connected to the originals. She does a wonderful job of showing what dystopian world can turn into over the course of a few years. The story line continues to provide exactly what my vivid imagination needed to build the city in my head while I read. I felt such a connect to the powerful, brave, abs yet anxious main characters. I definitely recommend not only Making Eden but the whole Eden series to any dystopian fan!

What an exciting, action-packed series! I love how this dystopian world evolved and changed with each book, and I loved the new characters we got to meet each time - plus revisiting old characters! I'm not sure how I felt about the romance in this one because it didn't go where I thought it would - and I really didn't like Ivy at first because she was being super irresponsible all for some guy she just met (despite her already having a boyfriend) so that didn't sit too well with me. But I loved the alternating POVs and how each character got their own adventure. I really loved Asher, and his banter with Kamella was delightful! Definitely recommend this series.

This was a great ending to a great series! I love science and love the way that scientific concepts were woven into the series. This book was definitely special as we got to follow the lives of two children of characters introduced in books one and two. The character development in this book was also great. Ivy grew and learned so much about herself throughout the story. Additionally, I enjoyed the continuity of the main conflict in each of the books in the series. It definitely made me hate the villain, and I must say that the resolution of the conflict was like a breath of fresh air! I’ve read so many books in this genre, and this series is definitely in my top 5.

♥️🧡😱 An amazing dystopia !

Amid countless women in hospital gowns, freezing, Ivy wondered what was going to happen.

Everything was white, clean : no way to escape...

----------

An amazing and captivating dystopia to discover, full of action and surprises, with an amazing backstory and very endearing main characters, Ivy and Asher.

I can’t wait to read the first two books to catch up and better understand how it all started.

I really liked the author’s writing style.
A YA dystopia to discover for fans of the genre.

This is the final book in the series.
A little short for the last book.
Seventeen-year-old Ivy would do anything to save her mother—giving up her mutant abilities in a Cleansing ceremony is a price she’s willing to pay. It’s the only way to get her hands on the medicine her mother needs.
The Government wants to force everyone to become normal and get rid of mutations.
But is this right and what will happen to the mutants?
Read on to find out.
Great characters and a very engaging read.

Making Eden (The Eden Saga #3) by K.R.S. McEntire is an enjoyable book and I recommend. In this book seventeen year old Ivy decides to give up her mutant abilities in a cleansing ceremony, as a price to save her mom, to get the medicine needed. Asher, her boyfriend hopes it brings Ivy a safer life along with being allowed to married. This doesn't go as planned including mutants that have disappeared.

I finished the final book and loved it. I loved how the author progressed the story to encompass more people but also touching on the characters from the previous books. There is a great conclusion for the series and offers more incite than most dystopian novels about what society looks like after the apocalypse. I recommend for anyone who reads YA Dystopian, romance, Clean/Wholesome stories.

This book captured my attention early and kept it. It was a fast read for me because it was interesting. Ivy and Asher want to start a life together but need to figure some things out. Definitely worth your time!
My only issue is that there are some basic grammar and spelling errors that could have been avoided.
