Ok. We have another situation where I’m kicking my own ass & patting myself on the shoulder all at the same time.
The ass kicking is due to not reading a Piper Rayne book until now. The patting of my shoulder is due to the fact that I finally took the plunge and thoroughly enjoyed the entire experience! This book had it all for me. Humor, the swoons, nuclear level smexiness, great characters & the kind of family dynamic that has me wanting to spend more time with all the people (Well...most) that I got to meet throughout the story.
I ended up adoring Enzo and Annie. Enzo’s first impression is definitely not the best, calling him an asshat is a pretty apt description. But as you spend time with him, you come to realize that it’s not something he’s really conscious of doing. He does know, but it’s...well, you just need to experience it. But underneath all of that, he is a total sweetheart. Annie was a lot of fun. She is driven and knows exactly what she wants out of her life and isn’t afraid to do what needs to be done to get there. She has a few hang ups and they had me wanting to reach out and shake some sense into her, but her natural sweetness mixed with a snarkiness I appreciated kept things balanced quite nicely for me.
Their journey to their HEA was one I thoroughly enjoyed. Everything they went through, all the conversations they had with themselves in their heads along with the actual conversations they had with each other just felt natural. Their chemistry jumped up off the page and I was rooting for them the entire time. The bump in their road wasn’t unexpected, so I was prepared for it when it happened and all I have to say is that I loved how everything turned out for them in the end.
I’m really happy I finally dove into the words of Piper Rayne. I was hooked from the start and basically devoured the book in no time flat. I thought the issues brought up in the book were handled very well and only served to make the story more enjoyable. And then there are the supporting cast of characters. I loved Jake, Mae, Beth, Sam, Dom, Blanco and the parents. They all rocked! Carm...well...the jury is still out on until I get my hands on his book, which is thankfully next!
