Aeron’s Legacy is to protect the innocent. Luke’s Legacy is to lead his fellow assassins into a new generation. With a traitor trying to kill them both, they must gamble lives they’ve sworn to protect to ensure the survival of their hidden society.
But only one of these assassins has the true enemy in their sights while the other gambles an innocent life. As the body count rises around them, Aeron and Luke must determine which lives are worth saving and which deaths they can justify in order to protect each other and stop the Legacy from being destroyed.
With morally gray characters and intense action scenes, "The Assassin's Legacy" will steal your heart and possibly break it. If you enjoy books like Jack Ryan or TV shows like Nikita, this thrilling novel is a must-read. However, be aware that the book contains sensitive topics such as violence against children, death of children, as well as mention of sexual assault and domestic violence. Therefore, the book is recommended for mature readers aged 18 and above.
Join Aeron and Luke on their gripping adventure as they race against time to save their society from destruction.
With a childhood filled with James Bond marathons with her father, Libby brings to life a world of assassins and badass heroines.
When not writing, Libby spends her nights teaching self-defense and enjoying the art of jiu-jitsu. She loves English Breakfast tea, campfires, and loud music.
I received this book from the author and was absolutely blown away that was her first book! The plot was so well woven and clearly broken down and cleaned up! Every single character was like-able or severely hated and painted phenomenally! I legitimately cannot wait to start the second one! Ten out of ten would recommend!
OMG YES. Can’t lie I was afraid of typical male having the role but YES STRONG FMC. Intense moments that literally had me fall out of my seat (whoops) SO SO GOOD
This was a very well written, action-packed thriller that I thoroughly enjoyed! The secrets and lies drove so much of the tension that the plot was constantly evolving. I felt like I was on the edge of my seat until the very end! I can’t wait to see what happens in book two.
After seeing the look of the cover, and reading the title, and then the warning, and even after reading the first chapter I was quite sure that this book was going to be all masculine and hard-core reading. I was still down for it. After all, it was very catchy. Not like many other books when you have to suffer through the first few chapters just to get to the interesting parts. I was taken by it from the start. I was surprised that as I kept reading I found that the details between the action and the main story line proved to be filled with a balancing touch of elegance and sexy! Which makes this a great book for all types of readers. You can be a hopeless romantic or all about action and grit and your still going to have a hard time putting this book down either way! I'm a bit of both, so I find this book refreshingly original. It takes talent to write like this. It's very artistic! I admit I'm not finished yet but I've spent enough time in this book that I find myself looking for more quiet moments just so I can see what happens next. Thanks for sharing your imagination with us!
Love badass female leads? Love action and intrigue? This is a great book to pick up! I loved seeing what Aeron and Luke have to deal with being part of the Legacy. Some pretty intense scenes, a good body count, some holy crap moments make this an excellent read!
I was given a free copy of this book by the Author. She didn't ask for a review, but just handed off the copy as we were both leaving a conference, and she didn't want to carry it to her car.
The story is super engaging, the characters unique and interesting, and I read the first 160 pages or so non-stop. It took me a while to read the rest because, well, something made me put it down and not want to pick it back up again.
I really think this book could have been 5 star if this problem was fixed: You can't tell the age of the the main Character. Throughout the story, she's acting somewhere between 16 and 35. Then there a couple of lines of text that imply that she is 13 y/o; which is yucky. After rereading it a few I could tell that wasn't what Webber meant, but it was enough to break the spell of the action. I did eventually finish it, but couldn't enjoy the second half nearly as much.
Overall, I enjoyed reading this book. The story follows two main characters, Aeron and Luke. While the story is about assassins and their organization, I felt that the author stayed true to the age of the characters. Webber was able to successfully align the events in the story with what someone in their early 20's might be thinking or feeling about a particular situation.
If I were to change anything about the book it would be that many times actions were implied but not actually stated. This made me stop and have to reread sections of the story a few times to figure out what happened. One time in particular a character was slapped across the face. The character's physical reaction is described - they look sharply to the side, but it isn't until later that an imprint of a ring is noted to be on their cheek. At times this makes the story confusing, but doesn't ruin the pacing of the story or the overall plot.
An advanced copy of the book was given to me in exchange for an honest review. If you enjoy strong, female, main characters, a light friends to lovers trope, and a good amount of spy action then this book may be for you!
Normally, I only read Fantasy books and the very occasional Romance. I don't venture out to other genres. However, my husband bought the book for me after it was recommended to him, and I had the amazing opportunity of meeting the author. I read the description on the back, saw the warning in the front, and knew I was going to love this book. It was so hard to put down. Once I was halfway through, I stayed up until 5am the next morning to finish it. The characters are great and well written, the action sequences pull you in, and the overall story is just absolutely amazing. It has officially become one of my favorite books and one of my new favorite series. I'm so excited to start the next book. I highly recommend this book to anyone and everyone!
Where do I even start? Great storyline, never a dull moment and packed full of twists and turns. The delivery of information for characters is perfect; you get exactly what you need about each one without it becoming an overload of detail. Pulls at multiple emotions threw out the book sometimes more than one at the same time. A difficult book to put down because it keeps drawing you in to know what happens next. Absolutely loved it and super excited to see what comes next!! If you’re reading reviews because it caught your interest stop wasting time reading the reviews and go read/listen to the book, it’s excellent!
I wasn't sure I was going to like this book. I've read several first novels from indie writers, and this is better than most as the author has strong potential. The writing is incredibly descriptive and gets you sucked in quickly. There were a few times where I became confused as to what was going on, almost as if some editing was done but not enough to keep small details in place and moving smoothly between events. I'm highly distracted by errors, especially if I have to go back several pages and re-read. I think a good editor would be able to clean this up so that everything flows together seamlessly. Overall, I enjoyed The Assassin's Legacy and I'm looking forward to reading the next book in this series, as well as other novels by this author.
A micro colony of generational assassins, having lived for centuries on the fringes of society meting out justice (and or vengeance) as required, suddenly finds itself threatened not by outside forces determined to curb its lawless operations, but from within where the age-old quest for power rears its ugly head. Readers of dystopian, young-adult, and suspense fiction will love this imaginative and well-written novel filled with blood-thirsty antagonists and equally ruthless protagonists moving through a tangled plot filled with romance and intrigue.
Well, this was a fun, action packed, assassin thriller. At first I wasn’t sure how much I was going to like this book, but then it really started getting interesting as the subplot was revealed.
There was some pretty good world building of the assassin’s Legacy. Character development was also really good, though at first I wasn’t sure of the characters ages. I’m still not sure, but towards the end they were acting and thinking more adult than in the beginning.
Overall, the book was highly enjoyable. A quick action packed read that was interesting and fun to read. Totally recommend!
There was never a dull moment in this cat-and-mouse spy story! It’s full of intrigue and hidden secrets, and the tension between two opposing sides inside the Legacy kept my attention through the story! Libby Webber has a special talent for immersing the reader and drawing you in with vivid descriptions that don’t detract from the overall pace. Such a fun read! I can’t wait to dive into the next one!
Fantastic novel from start to finish. A detailed world with complex characters. It grips you right out of the gate and never let's you go. I would recommend this book to everyone.
The detailed description of the fight scenes creates a vivid theater of the mind effortlessly. The character perspectives keeps you guessing as it goes, creating a suspenseful narrative that keeps the reader engaged.
Enjoyable read, I wouldn’t mind coming back for part two. The plot twists popped up, keeping me interested. The only downside side I saw was the only emotion that came through as genuine was anger. Sadness, grief, and regret we’re often made clear but not so short lived it was hard to believe. But for a fast paced book it was has intriguing.
I received an advanced copy of this book. This story isn't my usual genre but it was a good read. Easy to follow without feeling like it was dumbed down. I gave 4 stars because the ending was a bit predictable but still enjoyed the story.
SO enthralling. I haven't read action/adventure in a long time but Libby's storytelling sat me down on my couch and didn't let me get up until I finished this book. Immediately picked up #2, which I loved just as much.
I devoured this book! I couldn’t put it down. The story kept me guessing. The character development was fulfilling. The love story kept me hoping. Highly recommend.
I read this book it was ok but I popularly pick it up again because later time, more time to reading and I pick up second book. I recommended you reading for yourself.
Assassins, family, revenge, love, betrayal.... just a normal day for the Legacy families. This story had me hooked and invested on the outcome...who would win...and would it be worth it? Fun read!
Buckle up, buttercup! This was a non-stop, action-packed thrill ride. I loved all the intrigue and discovering how this society operates within its world. The story is full of backstabbing, double agents, and intense fight scenes—everything you'd want in a top-tier action thriller.
All the best components of the genre are here, and it kept me hooked from start to finish.
So, this book turned out to not quite be for me. Aeron's father's character arc was one of my favorites, though I'm not sure why it wrapped the way it did. He and Ivan carried the story for me, and I would've loved to see more from them.
As for the main team of assassins, I'm not sure why these people who've trusted each other explicitly for the sake of all their lives and shared everything have suddenly decided to hide everything from each other, even when it puts them in danger.
Especially Luke. He turned his back on all his morals and oaths to protect Aeron, hiding it all from her, when coming clean with her would've kept her safer.
And she wasn't much better.
All told, this story is basically what happens when a tight knit team forgets everything they've ever learned about working together.
And the author probably should've done more research on cars to make a main character a mechanic. At one point, Aeron was tearing down and cleaning an engine. Cool.
But she was holding a single cylinder. Not quite possible. Unless she meant a cylinder sleeve (which would've required a press to get it out) or a slave cylinder for the brakes (but why remove that when cleaning the engine?).
And I really didn't care for the ending. It was abruptly cut off, and the amount of guilt that was put on Aeron for the things Luke did just didn't sit right with me.
It feels like there should be a second book, but I don't think there's going to be a sequel. For a book about assassins, it sure left a lot of loose ends.
The audiobook narration was good. It got even better for me (a fan of Bob's Burgers and Archer) when I realized that the voice used for Aeron's dad sounded like Bob Belcher (so like Archer but not hitting on every woman around) and the voice used for Aeron was like a combination of the Belcher kids. Gina Louise Belcher. Strange, I know, but it honestly made it better for me. Lol.
I was a part of the author’s early development of The Assassin’s Legacy, and I haven’t laid eyes on it in years. That space and time allowed me to appreciate the new plot, older characters, and details so much more when I purchased the book.
Aeron and Luke have been friends forever, team members on an elite altruist assassin organization. They are both blood family members, so their stakes are higher. Aeron also has a brother on the team, and her father and her have a very strained relationship. Abuse or extreme “sport parent mentality” about their lifestyle is hinted at, her father not offering her the honor of claiming her as family for assassin life. When other legacy families start bing murdered, they both make promises to older members in the hope of saving each other. And the way they go about it (lies, death, and disloyalty) leaves the reader thinking about the power of truth.
The result is a multi POV novel that is breathe taking, and you’ll be begging for their happily ever after. Webber has done well for her debut novel. Her writing style matches the fast paced plot perfectly, and the details make you part of the assassin team. Though there is violence, profanity is limited.
While I highly recommend this book, the trigger warning is very real. I had a few moments of trigger myself, and I’m sure others could be more so. I also felt the beginning of the book didn’t give a real example of the philanthropic missions the teams supposedly did on a regular basis. But the story was so real, I have to wonder if there really if an organization like this in New York. Lol
Overall, a wonderful book for those that love action, strong female leads, family secrets, unhinged antagonists, and a deep, slow burn romance.
