Got some nice notes for our planned trip in February - this is my first time reading an "experience"-style Lonely Planet book, and it was a different way to view this nuanced region. I liked the focus on giving back and having genuine experiences, would have liked more hotel and restaurant recommendations.

An amazing book for the paradise.

When I first started reading this book, I thought it was poorly organized and worried that reading it would be a waste of time.

The more I read it, though, the more I enjoyed it and found really useful information. The content often lacks context, but perhaps that's purposeful.

I learned so many things that I previously had not known about Hawaii. This book is a very valuable resource that I plan to use again and again. It has very different information than in previous books I've read on the subject. If I combine it with other books, I think I'll have all the knowledge I need.

This book is not thorough. It might be nice to have thorough and detailed separate books on each island, if Lonely Planet is going to recommend sticking to a single island for the duration of the trip.

I appreciated the emphasis on giving back and taking care of the land.
