SO much potential but poor execution.
This book didn’t feel like a full fleshed novel, I had the feeling that I was reading a very long resume of a book.
I don’t exactly know how to explain but the writing was amazing and the plot too, I was vibing with this story until 40% in when I started to noticed that a lot of things happened off pages, they were no development of certain key scenes, some characters, were mentioned and just disappeared, they were very superficial and poorly developed, I was very confused.
It could’ve been a 5 stars for me if only the author tried to give us more details or explanation of certain events and not just resume like: “ this happened” or “ 3 month went by and this and this happened” “ 4 weeks later I’ve learned that” just pretty please, for the likes of my sanity, just give us the deeds.
Most of the story happened in the past and I didn’t even mind that because it was so well written, Fatima and Quentin were cute, hot together but when it was time to move back to the present? Nothing, no sparks, no chemistry, bland dialogues, annoying back and forth, etc
I’m exhausted.
I’ll keep this author in my radar tho because I know she’s the potential to become a favorite, I’m just pissed because this book could’ve easily been a 5 stars read for me and a fave. Don’t know if she became uninspired toward the middle or lazy or what but something was wrong.

4.3⭐️ As with Book One, Broken, there is no fluff here. There are some whimsical moments, but this really is a serious, complicated story. It was so engrossing that I sat up reading all night instead of getting my much needed beauty sleep. The author very adroitly weaves a tale of friendship, love, betrayal, power, money and retribution. Quentin and Fatima must grapple with well-hidden skeletons in their families’ history. Once those secrets are uncovered, the aftermath is devastating. This book is highly emotional, well-written, and it has strong sexual content.
My rating would have been higher but there are some editing issues, including wrong words used. Notwithstanding, this is a solid read, one that I plan to reread along with Book 1.

This was great! I am glad that Fatima and Quentin got their HEA. It took a while due to both of their family histories and the connections that was so negative. I am glad that Fatima told off Quentin's ex-mother in law (Amy's mother) who seems to be such a pompous witch! Many characters from the first book (Novalee and Connor's story) appear in this one as well. I am hooked and looking forward to more stories by this author!

I LOVED Quentin and Fatima's story! It gets five extraordinary stars! In love with each other since age fourteen, they skirted around it under the guise of friendship because loving each other was forbidden. Because it was it was a repeat of history. Because Quentin's father had loved Fatima's mother...and their love had shattered lives and ended in tragedy. EXCELLENT!!!!

Excellent second book in the Surrender series. Tia Sirrah is a great writer. Once again, she has done a great job in creating an epic love story with great character development and compelling story line. This book is about Fatima (Novalee's cousin from Broken) and Quentin. There's a tangled and complicated story that ties their families together. Pretty crazy story actually, but you'll get all engrossed in it, like I was. You will definitely be rooting for these two to find their way back to each other. This isn't as good as the first book but, it's still a great read. 4.5 stars

This was an okay read. It was kind of a let down after reading Broken (the first book in this series). I felt that this book moved too slow.
In Broken, we learned that Fatima was a hairdresser/makeup artist and aside from her mentioning work a couple of times, we never really got to read about her in a working environment.
All the emphasis on the past and there wasn't a lot of romance. Fatima and Quentin had a connection but unlike with Novalee and Connor, I didn't feel it as much because it seemed to take a backseat with all the drama.

Incredible!
OMG, this book had me on an emotional rollar coaster in a good way. Fatima and Quentin's story is epic. It is well written, compelling and you immediately get absorbed into the drama that unfolds throughout the story. These friends to lovers got their second chance of love and deserved their HEA for all the trials and obstacles they went through. This a phenomenal book!

3.50 Stars. (BW/WM). Kindle Unlimited e-book edition. Friends to lovers. Drama squared. I found this installment of The Surrender Duet to be a better read than the first book; but the storyline started to drag at the half way point because of all the on-again off-again of the protagonists due to the over dramatization of events that did little for the plot and seemed like filler with the sole purpose of lengthening the book. The heroine, Fatima Marie McKay, is from an upper middle class black family, she attended a private prestigious high school before graduating from UCLA’s school of business. The hero, Quentin Ashton,V, is the son of a US senator and grandson of a former Present, Quentin graduates from Yale’s law school and for awhile peruses a political career. Quentin attended the same private school that Fatima attended, during their fourteenth summer, Quentin and Fatima took a blood oath to become friends for life and to be honest with each other and not let the animus between their families to alter that. Although they swore friendship, they were secretly in love with each; but because his father and her mother had an affair and broke their respective families apart and because her mother was pregnant by Quentin’s father and was killed before she reached their rendezvous point, Quentin and Fatima kept their friendship secret. They got their HEA after going through some questionable hoops.

After finishing the first book i was hoping to see what was Fatima and Quinten’s story, it was one hell of a ride from emotional breakdown, hear break, heart ache, sadness and happiness it was the full package and it delivered so much more that I expected.
Fatima and Quinten were introduced in the first book “Broken” we saw a glimpse of them but even then i felt they had a lot more to show, this book its about them and how complicated there relationship was and it will be more complicated, growing up with a heavy secret that was linked between there families wanting to be with each other but couldn’t , trying to be with each othe but shouldnt pluse each one of them having seperate secrets that will effect the other this was just so good the ups and down the wait for what will happen and how it will happen it was truly amazing its so much more i dont want to give spoilers
I loved how the author provided seperate part one for the past and one for the present for us to see them and how they have grown without letting it get mix by going back and forth once that chapter of there lives was done that was it
This is a dual POV you get to feel what they feel and understand each ones perspective and view into the relationship, its a second chance romance with a plot twist, it has triggered warning for loss of a loved one, death of family members and other thing please be aware before going in
All in all it gave me all i needed for there love story to be one of my favorite

Absolutely brilliant story
Fatima and Quentin's love story is epic. It had everything in the story, great steamy love making scenes, suspense, greed, murder, intense jealousy to name a few. I loved this book.
I'm not brilliant at writing reviews but this booked moved me so much, I would have committed an injustice to have not written one.
The epicness (i know this is not a word) of this love story should not be missed.
I read Broken first which I think helped me with the background information to thoroughly enjoy this book. This is a story not to be missed, highly recommended!!!!

Once again, her book captivated me from the first few sentences. Ms Sirrah is an excellent storyteller! I have read both books in this series. My only bad comment, I wish she would have included an epilogue. This book had another great set of MC. The storyline here was great, my heart hurt for Quentin and Fatima. Of course they got their happily ever after. I would l9ve to read the story of Quentin's father and Faye. Now that would be a great story!

This book was deep. The characters have a long history filled with heart break and strife. Fatima and Quentin were relatable and I enjoyed reading how they both had to go on their separate journeys to get to the point of reconnecting. This book didn’t lack on drama and tears but made for awesome read. My only criticism would be the title because unrequited was never their issue

This storyline was really different. To say they went through a lot, is an understatement. Murder and mayhem. Secrets, friendship, and love. Fatima was cool. They got through it. I will definitely read something else by this author.

This book...was definitely off the charts...I absolutely 💯 LOVE this book, one of my all time favorites, the author is a fabulous writer, her stories and style are like no others, these stories are real life and movie worthy.

BAAAAYBEEEEE!!!!! Let me let ya'll know something, okay!
If you thought Broken was good (which is was- hands down) your in for a REAL treat!! I fell in love with Fatima's character the day she made her debut in Broken, she's someone I could see myself being friends with in real life.
Her love language, quick wit, spicy demeanor, sex appeal, and that "I got your front AND back- just say when" attitude, is unmatched. I've never identified with a character like this before, so I really fell head over heals for Fatima and Quentin's love. The imagery the author brings in each of her books, is like no other, literally a talent only a few writers posses. And if you read Broken, you know the men are FINE as wine, okay! So expect things to get a little hot, and heavy (and since were quarantined, ya'll shouldn't mind that at all! You can thank me later. Wink). Although were obviously reading a story, the way it played in my mind was like a movie, scene after scene, I was right there with them. I laughed, cried- no honestly, I bawled my eyes out to the point where my family had to ask what was wrong (I waived the book in the air, and shooed them away, because they obviously wouldn't understand. They didn't know Fatima and Quentin like I did, so I wasn't gonna waste my time trying to explain to them about my "friends" situation!) Yes, Fatima and Quentin were so real to me, that they became my folks. I know, I know, sounds a bit psychotic but, hey. Lol Blame the author's amazing writing, okay! Ya'll read the book and find out if you don't fall in love w/ the characters, I DOUBT IT!
Anyway, this review has become longer than anticipated so, I'll wrap it up. Bottom line is, you'll truly enjoy this read, and it'll show you "that the heart is resilient. It hopes. It heals. And the heart never lies".

The premise of the book was good but I felt like it got lost along the way. it was very slow going. Quentin started as a strong character and ended up being somewhat wimpish.
As for Fatima, it was sad that she felt like her only options were empty sexual encounters because she was already in love with someone else. Even as a teenager she was pretending or going out with other people to make him jealous. Very juvenile.
I understand that their circumstances were complicated and probably too much to deal with for an 18 year old. However after 9 years they were less brave than their teenage self. I would have preferred Quentin to be more like Conner, more assertive. Stay in politics but do it with Fatima by his side to prove the naysayers wrong. That would have been a much better story and perfect given why Quentin’s grandfather killed Faye. This desire to become @ordinary” was disappointing. I might be controversial but it really annoyed me how Fatima’s father went on about how they “took” from them. His bitterness was irritating and misplaced because he himself said that Faye and Quentin IV loved each other since they were kids. As hard as is it to accept, he is the one who got in the way. It was also unfair to say that QuentinIV didn’t protect Faye because he left everything for her, and how was he to imagine his father despicable act?

Fatima & Q
This is the sequel from book one "Broken" following Quentin and Fatima. You ever read a book and you start hearing the soundtrack to it. Well there's only been a few books that I can honestly say that that's happen to and this is sure one of them. First song "Come Thru" by Summer Walker and "The Lay Down" by Dram feat. H.E.R if you haven't I recommend listening to them. Anyway back to the review when I was first introduce to the idea of Fatima and Q being a couple in the first book I just knew their story was going to be great one and it was. These two characters had to deal with family drama which really affected their love past and present. I have to note this thank you Tia for adding Q's perspective to this story rather then have Fatima just tell it again as I stated in the first book review its just adds depth and a more rounded experience as a reader. As the other reviewers have state I hope these get a start a family and we get to read it hint hint.

Very entertaining!
Wow, never in a million years , I thought they would never get together. Quentin is a character. I wanted to see a confrontation between the fathers. I would have loved to read about their wedding. Well, I can only guess who's story is next. Until next time......

STAR-CROSSED lovers stories are so classic!
Quentin and Fatima’s history, family back stories and secrets are what makes this story so special! First introduced in BROKEN, book 2 DID NOT DISAPPOINT! Family obligations and appearances can sometimes tear apart true love. The secrets that kept these characters apart for so long makes the reader feel as though it is happening to them.
Heartbroken , confused, and deceived, Q and Fatima are finally being given the opportunity they deserve. This story fits perfectly together like a puzzle, where part 2 compliments part 1 so well . Written with empathetic care Tia writes from both characters’ perspective, giving the reader all angles.... BROKEN touched and pricked my heart and UNREQUITED pulled at all the heart strings!!!!

unrequited love, the "children" almost pay for the sins of their families, but i am so glad that even as young teenagers they were mature enough not to let the error of their parents get in the way of their friendship. Quentin and Fatima went through a long roller coaster ride, made a lot of mistakes and heartbreaks... they cant breathe without each other,had to brake up,.. but at the end love conquers all.
I was hoping to see the wedding and an epilogue with their miracle babies. Please, give us some miracle babies!!!
Since, i didn't realize i was reading book 2 before book 1... oops! let me go see what makes Conner ticks!

Quentin and Fatima.
I thought it was an interesting read. I liked the twist and turns and how they never seem to get over each other despite the efforts. I also liked that someone else confessed his love for Fatima. I secretly was wishing she would go with the other guy. I was not fond of her name but it seems to fit her character.
I would recommend this book to my friends so that we can have a discussion about it.

heart-wrenchingly beautiful
Fatima was an amazing heroine. Pretty, confident and resolute. Her love was untreatable. Quentin needed some work. Good read and great writing.

For some reason I was pretty skeptical because this seemed like more angst than I wanted to read, but I really enjoyed myself. I gobbled this book down. I liked the two leads and the twisty turny road to their HEA.

Not the happily ever after you're thinking
This story I'm sure is not going to be the happily ever after you're thinking, IF you compare it to Novalee and Conner. This is not about them but they appear. I honestly read this book only for a peak into who Fatima was because of her strong presence in Novalee life and during Amy's wedding. Quentin on the other hand seems like a very strong character, the Alpha in him took several steps back compared to my man Conner. They took too much time running for you to even begin to enjoy the relationship once they got together. I am not being fair in comparing the two couples but I expected more togetherness from them. The family secret and death of Faye is big but just ending this story without an epilogue or peak into the future leaves me as a reader empty. I'm like, they went through all that for a ring? So now what and this is my reason for three stars. This story needs to pick back up and earn that five star I know it can get. These are some amazing characters lined up that's screaming hear our voices and I'm here for it. Very good read but not like book one.

They took too much time running for you to even begin to enjoy the relationship once they got together. I am not being fair in comparing the two couples but I expected more togetherness from them. The family secret and death of Faye is big but just ending this story without an epilogue or peak into the future leaves me as a reader empty. I'm like, they went through all that for a ring? So now what and this is my reason for three stars. This story needs to pick back up and earn that five star I know it can get. These are some amazing characters lined up that's screaming hear our voices and I'm here for it. Very good read but not like book one.

On the fence
This is the second book I've read from this author. I absolutely love the first book, and I was really excited to read this one. First let me start with what is good about it, this is a very well written story. I always enjoy reading stories that are technically proficient and well edited. We met both of these characters and Connor and Novalee's story and I was excited to know more about them. Fatima and Quinton's story was one that spanned more than a decade. Unfortunately for me, this story spent way too much time in the past. I understand that the author wanted to give a really full bodied understanding of their history and the things that had driven them apart, in the past, but it was too much. Nearly a full 50% of the story was set in the past. They probably spent 40 or 45% of the story broken up in the present, and the last small percent of it together. For me this made the book feel very unbalanced and while I enjoyed knowing about their past I really wanted to see more interaction in the present. I still like this author I would definitely read something else that she's written, but It's for this reason that I'd give it a 3.5 Stars.

Not too bad except that it was just a tad too long and unnecessary!
This wasn’t so bad after all. Glad I was able to get a glimpse of Novalee and Conner having the twins and all but this was truly unnecessary too long.
Quentin and Fatima truly was the bomb but it actually took too long when it didn’t need all that for this story to have had gotten all 5
Stars from me but the longer it was the most boring it was getting to be. After all this time, Quentin and Fatima had finally came back to each other and that’s where I thought the story was going to be this whirlwind romance of him literally grovel on his knees to get her back even after her indiscretions, but it took another length of time before that happened and then it was the end.... so rough, so abrupt! I was hoping and wishing that at least we would have seen that she would have had a pregnancy of twins as well since that was her only chance and she got 2 kids out of that, but nopes, boring and generic was the ending to this series with nothing to hold on to....

PLACEHOLDER REVIEW: This was a beautiful love story BUT the heroine feeling guilty about her actions for someone she hadn't talked to in nine years didn't work for me—especially given the circumstances. Revenge is a dish best served cold and you got own it but also the person has to know it happened, right away, not ... I'm NOT sayin'!
Before, I go I want to say that I'm not typically a fan of heroines or heroes being with close friends, sisters, mothers, brothers and fathers. What the hero does is WAY worse AND again they were not together when it happened and I appreciated that she wasn't dead down below and had a great experience with this person and others, too often the woman doesn't have sex again until the hero re-enters the picture. So, it's refreshing to read it was good, over and over again but the guilt didn't work for me and the behavior afterwards toward this person didn't work, you did it, it happened, own it! THAT. IS. ALL! 😊
