Cece Robin is a simple fourth-grade schoolteacher. A chance meeting with a splinter group of the Resistance changes her life. She would never dream of getting involved in their plot to assassinate the Taelon leader Zo'or she'd never kill anyone-not even an alien Taelon! Her refusal makes her dangerous to the Resistance-and a suspect in the eyes of the Taelons. By great good luck she meets up with Augur, whom she puts in a terrible fix. He-the ultimate loner, whose credo is "I'm out for nobody but myself"-risks his cover, his life, and worst of all, possibly, the loss of some income, to save his favorite teacher from the Taelons and the Resistance. Can Augur save Cece without crippling the Resistance and destroying humanity's hope for the future? Maybe. But for sure, he's really going to mess up his social life!
I am a writer,( Patreon here) but I'm on Goodreads to talk about books, as I've been a passionate reader as long as I've been a writer--since early childhood.
I'm not going to rate books--there are too many variables. I'd rather talk about the reading experience. My 'reviews' of my books are confined to the writing process.
The author clearly knows the show well. I quite appreciated some attempts to do character building for Liam, Sandoval, and Renee. I think the book wants to be a thriller/mystery but things are a bit muddled.
I loved writing this book the most of all the work for hire books I've written. I traveled cross country on the train to gain experience; I tried to capture a dear friends whose teaching style was my model for my heroine. I tried to have fun comparing an ordinary woman thrown among the glitz superhero crowd, and what it might be like, I got kidz on the Internet in, and I tried to give some of the characters a bit more personality.
Oh yes, and I broke into the back of Skull and Bones to nose around myself, so I could describe the place realistically, because of course villains had to use it. The Yalie I was with was shocked, but hey, when you find a gate open, and there is no actual signage (imagine the arrogance!) anyway, it was tremendous fun.
Whether or not my fun made it to the page for the reader, is of course up to them.
A very good book, for those who liked Earth: Final Conflict, and Roddenberry stuff in general. I don't remember reading any Star Trek books, nor any others in the Earth: Final Conflict series, up until that point.
