This is a really cute book that provides a lot of information on the four seasons and why they are how they are. There is a lot of science talk in the book to explain the seasons too which would make for a great book to read in class before going into a unit on the seasons! This is a book I plan to have in my future classroom.

The book makes a good start: "Did you know our planet is tilted?"
And then completely forgets about axial tilt and proceeds to attribute the changing of the seasons to the planet's distance from the Sun, conveniently forgetting two things:
* The Northern Hemisphere is farthest from the Sun in Summer;
* As hinted above, the seasons aren't the same in the North and South Hemispheres, despite both being pretty much the same distance from the Sun at the same time.

I found myself having to make on the spot edits/rewrites of erroneous parts of the book as I was trying to read it to my child. Not exactly what you want to be doing while reading an educational book.

The illustrations are pretty, and a good deal of the information on the effects of the changing seasons is good, but failing on the primary explanation for the thing you are educating on is pretty damning.

I searched high and low for a good first grade book that could introduce the seasons by describing them and briefly touching on why we have them. Some books were too dense for students with no prior knowledge and some books were so simplistic they would be boring for the kids that do have background knowledge. This book bridged that gap beautifully. Of course you would want to follow-up with a deeper dive on why we have seasons (getting more specific about the tilt, distance, north/south hemispheres, equator, etc.) but this book is an excellent kicking off point. If you are ready for the next level consider Sunshine Makes the Seasons by Franklyn M. Branley & Michael Rex or The Reasons for the Seasons by Ellie Peterson.

Bonus? This book has cute art. I am now looking at all the other great books for the classroom by this author.

This book takes the reader through all four seasons. It discusses what each season brings. It explains why we have seasons; how close we are to the sun. It talks about the plants that come with the seasons, and ones that remain all year. Animals hair gets thinker in the winter and they will store up food.

I really think this a GREAT nonfiction book. It is a fun read and I always love paper cut out illustrations. The end of the book lists activities that correspond with the book.

I would use this book in the classroom when discussing the seasons. I also really like the activity listed about drawing scenes of the season and discuss vocabulary that reminds students of the seasons. I would add in the question what is your favorite thing to do/about each season?

A wonderful introduction to the four seasons for young readers. The book takes kids on a journey through spring, summer, autumn, and winter, showing the changes in nature, animals, and weather. The simple, flowing text is easy to understand and perfect for sparking curiosity about the natural world.

With warm, colorful illustrations by Maddie Frost, the book is visually engaging and helps children recognize the beauty in every season. It’s a great pick for kids who love learning about nature and the world around them, while also teaching about the cycle of the seasons.

A perfect book for introducing a science lesson on the changing of seasons! I would also make sure my students understood that the seasons are not the same everywhere in the world, and that some places like southern California don't experience the changing of seasons like we do in Kentucky. I would follow this discussion by having students write a paragraph on their favorite season and why.

I love this book and think it is a great picture book for the upper elementary grades as they learn more about seasons. This book provides a great explanation of why the seasons happen the way that they do. This would be a great book to do a read aloud on while pausing to connect it to the textbook or other information learned in class. It would also be fine to keep in the class library as well.

I really liked how she had her pictures done, they depicted each season and explained them well. I would read this book to children between the ages of 3 and 4 in a small group because then, I could ask the children what do we do in each season.

I picked up this book as part of a summer reading challenge where I had to select a book related to my favorite season. In essence, it turned out to be a delightful, easy read that offered insightful activities to help readers explore why we favor certain seasons. It's a wonderful choice for introducing younger folks to the diverse beauty of all seasons!
