I've always wanted her. After all these years, that's never changed.
I thought Sarah O'Banyon had been The One. I'd been f-ing wrong. I moved on, made something of myself. Became police chief. Even had a beautiful daughter.
When Sarah buys me at the bachelor auction, I'm stunned. It's been six years. She wants me for something now. When we end up in my bedroom, I know exactly what. Except I get cuffed to my headboard by the sexy mechanic—and left. Getting free isn't the only thing that's hard.
Turns out she's learned something about my past. A secret which makes her angry. I'm okay with that. It means she still feels something for me. I'll change her hate to love.
We're going to pick up the pieces of our first love... and our broken hearts because there is no other option. It's Sarah O'Banyon for this cowboy. Always.

Back in the Saddle is book two in the Bachelor Auction series by Vanessa Vale. This can be read as a complete stand alone. I have not read the first book in the series and was completely fine. I did love that the two time lines of both books one and two seem to be happening at the same time. You are aware that Huck’s brother is going through something at the same time he is.
Huck Manning and Sarah O’Banyon fell in love when Sarah was eighteen and Huck was twenty four. Huck had been wild in his younger years but Sarah made him feel grounded, made him want to do better. But when Sarah was ready to leave for college, Huck broke things off with her. Now, six years later, Huck is all grown up and is now the sheriff of their little Montana town. He’s made something of himself, made a good life for he and his beautiful little girl. He always hoped Sarah would come back to him but she never did. Until that night!
Sarah had been devastated six years ago when Huck ended their relationship and even more so when he came home with a daughter. It took her years to get over him. To be honest, she never really did. Sarah’s dad runs O’Banyon Auto Shop. It’s always been Sarah’s dream to take over for her father one day. She loves working on cars. But she doesn’t think he’ll really ever let her do it. Once in awhile, though, she fills in on the tow truck when she’s needed. And it’s on such a job when she sees something she wasn’t supposed to see, something regarding Huck, and now all Sarah can think about is getting revenge.
Huck and his brothers are all enrolled in a bachelor auction for charity. Huck is dreading it until the winning bid belongs to the only girl he has ever loved. Only the night didn’t end up the way he hoped it would! Sarah is mad but he’ll take that, he can work with that. At least she’s back in his life. He’ll turn her around, make her love him again, because she’s the only woman he wants.
I loved this book. These two just broke my heart at what happened to the two of them. They were truly in love, they were each other’s “the one!” But outside forces kept them apart and they lost six years. But if it weren’t for those six years, Huck wouldn’t have his perfect daughter. Huck is determined to win back Sarah’s heart and I loved that Sarah listened to him when he finally was ready to explain everything. This was a sexy, sweet and fun little book. It even had a small element of danger to keep me flipping the pages. I love Vanessa’s writing and this did not disappoint.
*I received this book as a gift in exchange for my honest opinion.
This book basically picks up about half through the story line of the first book. Yep, you heard me. This one overlaps the first BA book which is so cool because you'll remember certain things that happened and will totally relate.
Huck hasn't exactly been keeping a secret, but he hasn't been correcting people either. What's the secret? You'll have to read this one to find out, I'm not spoilin' it for you guys. But basically the secret comes out to the one person he's do anything to be with. Will this secret ruin their chances or shed some light in to the past?
Sarah is an ex-girlfriend of Huck's...and boy oh boy is she a scorned one. Especially now that she knows a secret Huck's kept from her and the entire town for the last 5 years. The unfortunate part of being scorn though, is that there are still feelings involved and now they're back with a vengeance. Is this secret something she can just "let go", or is it time to let go of Huck?
As you know, Vanessa's books are short but super sweet. Although this stays true to her style, the only reason I gave this one a three star is because I liked the first one more. Not that I didn't like this one. Rekindled love is always a HEA that will leave me smiling.
This book was my first book by this author, and even tho it’s book 2 in a series, it can be totally read as a stand-alone!
Absolutely enjoyed this steamy second chance story of Sarah & Huck! It was a quick, steamy and fast paced read. Some parts I’d have loved to read more about, or how they dissolved the problems which were mentioned!
I kindly received an arc and voluntarily left a review
The story is the second in a new, small-town romance—and no, this one is not ménage. It has a great cast of characters, plenty of interaction, angst, issues, and several steamy sex scenes. Six years ago, Huck Manning and Sarah O’Banyon had been together—but threats were made that would harm Sarah, and Huck broke up with her—breaking her heart and his. Now, at a bachelor auction, he is up for bid—and one bid comes in by Sarah—sold! $500.00
Huckleberry ‘Huck’ Manning is the Chief of Police, a father, and a man who has proved himself a stable, family man. He doesn’t care what some people think; the ones that matter know the truth about his daughter, Claire. Huck only has a few regrets in his life, the harsh words said to his parents before they died—and hurting Sarah O’Banyon.
Sarah O’Banyon was brought up in the garage owned by her father, taught how to work on vehicles, and even went with him when called for a tow. She has taken care of his books since she was in middle school. Now, she is back in town, has her accounting degree, but her heart is working under a hood—only her Dad won’t let her. Thinking that eventually, he would pass down the business to her, that is only a pipe dream—one that won’t ever happen.
The story will have Sarah buying Huck at the community auction, going with him back to his place, and letting him believe they would get together. A little playfulness, talking him into allowing her some control, and she handcuffs him to the bed—and leaves him like that.
“She’d taken what she wanted, then left behind what she intended.”
“Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned. Technically I’d broken up with her. But not by choice. I done it for her.”
The plot will have secrets, second chances, a deranged woman, life and death danger, revelation, explicit sex, intense chemistry, pieces of the past, fear for the future, and then throw in human equations. Huck and Sarah had a history, one everyone in town was aware of—but she left, he left, and he came home with a baby. Sarah returned, but she isn’t a happy person; her dreams, hopes, and future are all unstable. No matter her hurt over what Huck did, she still has feelings—along with a secret. What will happen when she learns the reason for the break-up? How she was manipulated by someone she trusted—and that he still is using her? Can Huck and Sarah bury the past hurt and make plans for a future—one that will include Claire?
“I’d been given a second chance with her. Sarah might not know it, but she’d set the two of us back in motion. She was going to be mine again.”
This auction story had it all, a pair of previous lovers that have a second chance, sort of. Sarah was hurt over Huck breaking up with her 6 years ago but he had reasons. The bachelor auction was her chance at payback, but it kind of failed as Huck learned that she still had feelings for him. The couple still has past hurts and secrets to overcome but it all gets revealed and they work through it to find their HEA in the end. I love these bachelor auctions and know we have at least one more to come!
The perfect follow up to the first book in this series! I absolutely loved this one. Vanessa Vale never fails to deliver a fun, quick, steamy read that is full of action and characters that you can't help but fall in love with. Sarah and Huck had me falling for them from the start. I am a sucker for a second chance love and Back In the Saddle ticked off all the boxes for me. I cannot wait to see what Vale brings us next!
A second chance to rekindle a past love is not to be wasted and Huck is determined to win Sarah back after six years. He wants her as a wife and mother to his five-year-old daughter, Claire. Past secrets are revealed and past hurts are healed as they come together. This is a great story that is full of emotion and rekindled love. It is well written, entertaining and full of emotion. Both characters are strong willed and Sarah is finally able to understand some misconceptions that have haunted her. This is a great addition to the Bachelor Auction series and worth reading. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and are voluntarily leaving a review.
A nice second chance romance. There was a lot of repeat information going on in the first half of the book but, looking past that, it was a good story.
I loved this one. Second chance romance are my favourite kind of romance. I just love what she did with the handcuffs. I love the Manning brothers. Can't wait to read the last book.
Huck Manning protects everyone, not only because he is the chief of police in his small town, but because it is just what he does. At the bachelor auction he is bought by the one woman he has always wanted but gave up years before, for what he believed were the right reasons at the time.
Sarah has decided it is time for her to get back at Huck Manning. He broke her heart, had a baby with another woman, and made her feel as if everything they had was a lie. So making him believe he was going to have her again, and then leaving him wanting, is exactly what she plans to do. The thing she doesn’t realize is she has caused Huck to place a claim on her all over again.
After an intense night, these two are thrown into one another’s paths by circumstances in and out of their control. As they spend more time with one another they each discover the past, and present, is not what they believed it to be. Through moments of work, play and pleasure, Huck and Sarah will rediscover the love and connection they always had, and never truly left behind.
Huck Manning… Police Chief, Single Dad, Hot Cowboy, hoping for a second chance with his first love. ***** Rating: 4 stars Steam: 4 flames Genre: Second Chance Romance / Single Dad ***** Huck Manning did what he thought was right six years ago when he and Sarah O'Banyon broke up and she left for college. Now, he's successful, the police chief, and a dad to beautiful Claire. But there is one thing missing…. the only woman he has loved, Sarah.
Of course, we are back at the auction that dear sweet Alice signed all the boys up for, Sawyer just stormed off with Kelsey and Huck is up for bid now. Imagine his surprise when Sarah bids on him at the auction. Huck is hopeful that this is their second chance, and that Sarah is ready to come around, but Sarah is only ready for payback, and that involves Huck, handcuffs, and a headboard. Yikes…. Huck has some work ahead of him if he can get himself free that is.
Huck is now on a mission to find out why Sarah is angry and to finally get his girl back but the two of them have secrets and forces trying to keep them apart. Will they get a HEA?
Back in the Saddle is an enjoyable, quick, and steamy read that will have you chuckling and hoping the second Manning brother will finally get his happily ever after. I am totally invested in the Manning brothers and I cannot wait to watch Thatcher fall. If you are looking for a steamy series with cowboys that know what they want and won't stop until they get it, I suggest you grab the Bachelor Auction series!
Back In The Saddle by Vanessa Vale is the second book in the Bachelor Auction series and it was utterly DELICIOUS!
Sarah is so sweet and driven and has experienced a lot in her life, and is searching for her happiness, her truth, and coming to terms with how to go about getting that for herself. She's kind and devoted to those she loves and I would absolutely want her in my corner!
Huck is so endearing and suave and dedicated and loving and still has his delicious hard edge that just keeps you on tenterhooks craving more as he is the best dad to his daughter, does amazing at his job, and tried to do what he can for all those he loves.
And the CHEMISTRY? Mind blowing! The heat simmers and sizzles, hot enough to burn you as you hungrily devour each moment, each description, each tender and SHMEKSHAY exchange.
I loved the shared history. The scheming. The well meaning busy bodies. The drama. The missed opportunities, the miscommunications, and those poignant moments of honesty and truth and love.
This story gave me all of the decadent FEELS and I cannot wait for the next book in the series!!!

mini blurb — ✍🏻 Huck Manning was the guy that broke Sara O'Banyon heart when they both were young. She thought she's been over it now six years later but when something from the past bring her to relive what happened all she can think about is to get back at him for all the suffering she endured.

This started literally with a bang iykyk 😏 and time-wise overlaps the first book as it start from the auction too. Get me Alice's number that woman needs to find someone for me too lmao
Sarah and Huck story was a little turbulent, they were both each other's first love but life happens in the way, mistakes were made and regrets and hurt did the rest to grow them apart. Loved how they both talked through, Claire was a sweetheart 🩷
Just like the first book in this series, I loved it. Still threw me off a little with the fact there’s only one person narrating both POVs but it was great.
I don’t do second chance romances cause haven’t really gotten into them, buut this was nicely written. Sarah and Huck are absolutely perfect for each other. Unlike Sawyer and Kasey, they’ve known each other for years so the foundation was set for their relationship.
And brooo I haven’t read a lot of police romances (only two of Tessa Bailey’s), but damnnnn I need to read more cause 🫣🫠 (still laughing at the fact that Huckleberry ended up getting cuffed to the bed so she can flee 🤣)
Three brothers, 3 stories, all 3 auctioned off to the loves of their lives weather they want to admit it right away or not. Not all fall into HEA right off the bat but getting there is half the fun!
Second brother on the auction block is Huck, and he already knows the woman who wins him, he's craved her for six years. Six years since he took her virginity, six years since he let her slip through his fingers, and even though she bought him to get her revenge and leaves him cuffed, he's not going to let her go this time.
Back in the Saddle is book two from the Bachelor Auction series by Vanessa Vale. Huck and Sarah get their second chance at love. However, they do have a few things to re-learn about each other along the way. Not to mention working through the old hurts and disappointments largely caused by the manipulation of others. Vanessa Vale delivered another short, steamy and satisfying story for this reader. On to Bachelor #3!

Back in the Saddle is book 2 in the Bachelor Auction series by Vanessa Vale and a great read!
Sarah and Huck were sweethearts til Huck broke her heart (interfering Daddy is to blame) so she could follow her dreams. Things happened that she knew nothing about and she thinks he betrayed her when he came back to town with a baby. Now six years later, she’s back and out for revenge…
What happens next will keep you turning pages, heat (fanning), drama, forgiveness and a second chance at love and a HEA…
Ooh, Huck and Sarah are fire! I love that this story sort of overlaps the first but still stands alone. Second chances are always fun and this one had an element of surprise, danger, and humor. I loved Sarah and her need to get back at Huck but you can't deny their connection and chemistry through it all. Amazing!
Vanessa Vale did a number on me with this book! I loved it so much! It was everything from sweet, to light hearted, to tragic. Huck and Sarah have a second chance at love and I’m so glad they found their way back to each other! My jaw dropped twice within the first 20% of the book and I couldn’t put it down because I needed to know how it ended! The best thing Alice ever could have done for these Manning boys was to sign them up for the bachelor auction! I can’t wait to find out what happens in the last Bachelor Auction series book!
If you want a cute, short, second chance story, this one’s for you! Everything screamed sexy and mature and I loved it!! Both characters were so defined that i DIDNT know who i loved more, Huck or Sarah! Even little Claire made her spot in my heart and won me over!! I love when you get to read and understand completely the whole plot line from the beginning, and it’s not even forced! I loved this book and I’m eager to read more!!!
Oh my goodness! I am so glad I didn’t have to wait long to return to this amazing world that Vanessa Vale created. I absolutely adored Huck & Sarah and loved going on their journey.
Once I started reading, I couldn’t put down their story. I was captivated and got drawn into Huck & Sarah’s world.
I am not ready to leave these characters & their world behind. Thankfully there is more coming in this series!

I really like the vibe of this series. There sure are plot holes and the villains aren’t that nuanced, but the writing and main characters are so engaging that I found it easy to suspend my disbelief and just be entertained. Also, that first chapter. 🥵
The novella only spans a couple of days, but it’s a second chances romance so it’s not instalove. The MMC is like a good guy alpha who is totally gone on the FMC - my new favorite type of MMC.
"I’d been twenty-four, and she’d lived in the same crappy apartment building. She’d been a hot fucking mess, to put it nicely. Drugs. Random men. Shouting matches with them at all hours of the day and night. It had been annoying, but I’d been angry and dealing with having to walk away from Sarah." As usual the math ain't matching. Sawyer is 34. He told us his brothers were 2 and 4 years younger. Huck is the 2nd child, so he'd be 32. Since tge blurb AND chapter 1 say it's 6 years later, he would have been 26 when he dumped Sarah, possibly 25 depending on when his birthday falls "I’d lost my parents in a plane crash when I was fourteen" 13, but hey, why keep the math straight when writing a series.
"I needed to talk to Huck. Now. I stilled, then smiled. I knew a way to do just that. I’d get the answers I wanted. And then some." Instead she tells him she knows and leaves without getting the answers he tries to give her
"That was why I’d stayed away all this time. She hadn’t wanted me. If she had, she’d have come to me." So, since he didn't go to her then he obviously didn't want her.........
The FMC dad likes her sister's husband because he's rich and provides for her but hates the MMC who is also rich and would have provided for her? Yea that makes sense "He’d wanted his daughters to have what he didn’t. Wealth. Cars. Status. It didn’t matter that Lynn was probably miserable or that Sarah didn’t want that lifestyle. He didn’t give a shit about what she wanted as long as it had a fancy title or wealthy last name." Again, the Mannings are rich. This storyline would have been more believable had the guy her father hated been poor and had he also not hired his daughter to work in the garage lol
Back in the Saddle is the second book in the Bachelor Auction series. Sarah and Huck have a past, so when she buys him at the bachelor auction, it’s not to get back together. Huck has been waiting for his moment, though, for the past six years and this time, he’s not letting her walk away without a fight. But with their past catching up to their future, do they have a second chance at living their dreams full of love?
Oh wow, I loved this book! I was so swept away by their romance and their bumpy journey to finding each other again. A lot happens and can change in the six years apart, so there’s a lot of emotions and events they needed to rehash and bleed out so they could fully heal, and I have to admit that I was fully invested in their outcome right from the very beginning! Sarah has a lot of truth bombs hit her within a weekend, so she has a lot of emotions to sort through, but I loved how she faced all of the demons from her past with dignity and grace. She had to decide what was truly important in her life. Huck is possessive and protective, and all in once Sarah gives him an opening. I loved how he was with his daughter, and I loved how he proved to himself and to Sarah that he was so much more than just what goes round the gossip mill. I thought they were perfect together, full of passion and fire and love, plus I really loved how well of a team they made when it came time to face their pasts. I also thought it was fun that this book weaves effortlessly into some of the events of the first book. They happen during the same weekend, so while they both are stand alones, they also work well together. I really enjoyed reading this book! I loved Sarah and Huck!
This book is so sweet with a ton of spice, with some mystery and heavy topics sprinkled in! It may be short, but it packs a big emotional punch!
When Sarah O'Bannion was 18, she thought she had found the love of her life. She gave everything to Huck Manning the summer after high school, but seemingly, after he got what he wanted, he dumped her and moved away.
Crushed, she went off to school and didn't speak to him for another six years. Not until the night of the bachelor auction.
Huck Manning was in love with Sarah. He had their life mapped out. But after a harsh realization that he might not be good enough for her, he picked up and left.
When Huck returned a year later, he had a baby in tow, and Sarah knew that was the end of them. She moved on. But 5 years later and he still hadn't been with anyone serious, she knew this was her chance. She bid on him.
But he was going once, going twice, and might be gone before the sun comes up.
I have worked my way through a ton of Vanessa Vale books this year, and this one has been BY FAR my favorite one! Huck has been one of my favorite MMC's in a book in a long time, and the realizations he makes BY HIMSELF at the end make me wish more men had his emotional maturity. Coupled with the fact that he is the Chief of Police, and yum 🫠 I'll take two helpings of him any day!!
This book might look like a light and fluffy book, but it does contain some very heavy themes. Mind the TW/CW's for your own health.
This was a quick read, but it was hot and steamy and I liked it 😊
Sarah O’Banyon fell in love with Huck Manning in school and she thought they were going to be together for ever. But after their passionate night together he broke up with her and walked away. She left to go to college and when she came home for the summer he had a baby girl and that proved to her that he had moved on. Now she’s back in town, and seems like Huck has done well for himself. She is the book keeper for some folks in town and for her dad’s garage, which is not what she wants to be doing. But maybe its time for Sarah to sort out what she really wants in her life.
Huck Manning was told that he wouldn’t amount to anything. Now years later he is the sheriff of the town and he had a little girl that he loved more than anything. Well except for Sarah O’Banyon. But when her dad told him to leave her alone he walked away and now she had just bought him at the auction and what he thought would be a night to catch up she had literally just left him hanging… 😊
The beginning of this book was hilarious, especially when we see the first time Sarah and Huck got together again. This was a quick hot steamy read, but also had some suspense in there. I definitely would love to read the rest of the brother’s stories. 😊 ♥
Sarah and Huck dated the summer before she went off to college. They were soulmates and planning their future until Sarah's dad came and threatened Huck, so Huck broke up with Sarah. One year later Huck has a baby and Sarah is completely crushed. However, their is a secret with Huck's baby that no one knows about. It is now six years later and Sarah learns that secret. She "buys" Huck at the auction so she can get her revenge after learning the truth. Now that Huck knows Sarah is back, he wants her and nothing will stop him.
Issues I had with this book: #1 Huck and Sarah reunite and BAM they are back together. She HATES him and is completely crushed about what he did, but once they have some hot kisses and he is there for her, they talk and BAM they are engaged and planning for a baby. This whole book takes place in like 3 days, so they worked everything out and got back together real quick. I feel like they don't even know who the other person is. It has been 6 years since they had a conversation! #2 A lot of questions left unanswered. What was going on with her sister and brother in law? Why the stolen car and arson? What happened with her dad?
This book was hot and steamy. No couple separation once they got together. FAST PACED!
