Let your thoughts be clouds and let wind blow them away
Note: The book is not straightly only about hinduism but meditation overall
Meditaation kultainen kirja by Taavi Kassila is a deep dive into meditation, delving into its history and various practices.
The book covers the history of meditation, starting with the Vedas, and how people have found silence in nature. It also explores Jewish meditation traditions, Buddhism, Taoism, Christian practices of quieting the mind, and meditation in Islam. Additionally, it discusses how, in the 1700s, meditation-related texts were translated into Western languages.
The book also explores how the benefits of meditation, often clothed as mindfulness, have been recognized and studied by the Western medical science and community. Meditation practitioners tend to have larger brains, more gray matter, and better connections between different parts of the brain, with less age-related brain shrinkage. Mindfulness practice has also been shown to reduce pain, stress, depression, and anxiety.
The book explores the different chakras, their functions, and how to open and strengthen them through meditation practices. The book also delves into various mantras, explaining their meanings, origins, and how to incorporate them into meditation.
There’s plenty of different meditation practises in the book, guided by Taavi on the audiobook.
The book also includes the author's, Kassila's, personal experiences and insights on meditation, having practiced it daily for nearly 40 years. And other information about meditation also - how it can help creativity and artists for an example.
My only critique is that at times the book felt a bit rushed, jumping quickly between topics and covering a lot of information. However, this could also be due to my own lack of experience and knowledge on the subject. Overall, it was a very interesting read.
