**Should Read as 4.5 Stars!**
Read this book in 2010, and its the 2nd volume of the "High Priestess Iliona Mystery" series.
The year is still 466 BC, and in Sparta three bodies are found on the night when the rites are held to avert witchcraft.
The timing could not be more disastrous for Sparta, because there's a trade delegation from the Black Sea on its way to Sparta, and the last thing Sparta wants is some black magic.
The rulers of Sparta think its an action from their arch-enemy Athens, but Lysander, head of the Secret Police, thinks it must be someone and something else, and so by using blackmail and bribery, he enlists the help from High Priestess Iliona.
This Iliona discovers soon enough that several motivations are involved, with conspiracy, murder, kidnap and adultery being the multitude of these actions, and with this killer on the loose with a pathological hatred towards women, and aristocracy in general, and of course Iliona's blood is blue, she's in extreme danger herself.
What is to follow is an excellent Greek mystery and one that involve High Priestess Iliona as an investigator of intellect and courage, and she'll do everything to solve this case and reveal the culprit of this crimes to the best of her abilities, and that all in the service of Lysander and Sparta.
Highly recommended, for this is another captivating addition to this great mini-series, and that's why I like to call this episode: "A Wonderful High Priestess Iliona Sequel"!
