I’ve dedicated my life to saving others, but I couldn’t save my family. After losing my wife and unborn daughter both in a matter of seconds, I was done with it all: love, happily ever after, a family.
Then I met her—Stephanie Hartman. 5’10” of pure perfection.
For over a year I’ve sat back and watched her tend bar at my local watering hole. I’ve witnessed the way she cares for others. The way she listens to their sob stories. The sincere smile she offers them when they break down after a few too many.
I’ve even stolen a few flirty moments of her time. A wink here, a lingering glance there—The connection was instant.
The chemistry between us could melt diamonds. I tried to resist. Told myself she deserves more than a broken man. But neither of us wanted to fight it any longer, so I gave in…we both did. The moment my lips tasted her I was done and she was mine.
She made me come alive. She made me feel things I thought had died years ago. But there’s something lurking behind her beautiful eyes and I’ll be dammed if I let it destroy us before we even get a chance.
Just when it seems we finally got it right. He shows up and drags her back to Wyoming with threats of ruining her life. He’s not just a bitter ex, he’s a dangerous felon with a secret so dark and a sheriff in his pocket, he’s willing to kill to keep it safe.
She’s made it more than clear though: she doesn’t need saving. But I’m a firefighter and when I see danger approaching, instinct kicks in. I don’t have a choice. I lost everything once before, I won’t lose her too. But the harder I try to save her, the more it seems like she’s slipping away.
Maybe after everything that life has put her through, I’m not the man she needs.
Even if I lose her. Even if she chooses him. Even if this is all I’ll ever have with her.
Alexis Winter is a contemporary romance author who loves to share her steamy stories with the world. She specializes in sexy billionaires, cocky alphas, brooding bad boys and the women they love.
If you love to curl up with a good romance book you will certainly enjoy her work. Whether it's a story about an innocent young woman learning about the world or a sassy and fierce heroine who knows what she wants you're sure to enjoy the happily ever afters she provides.
When Alexis isn't writing away furiously, you can find her exploring the Rocky Mountains, traveling, enjoying a glass of wine or petting a cat.
This was so so for me. Not bad. But also... I've read it all before. Nothing really popped out at me or made it unique. Parts were rushed and the hero was in love WAY too fast.
Then the was the thriller aspect of the domestic abuse, which needed to be better fleshed out if we were going to go so dark with it. I'm glad we didn't dwell on it but it also was so sporadic and almost felt jerky. . Overall, I just wanted more. Every scene felt too fast and also not explored enough.
3 Stars 3.5 on the spice scale. Big thumbs up for sex toy use right near the end.
These is the fifth book in the series but it can be read as a standalone. Stephanie starts over in Grand Lake after leaving her abusive husband. Ryder meets Stephanie and sparks fly, but he isn’t over the loss of his wife and she doesn’t want to get involved with anyone due to her ex. What will happen when he learns about her dangerous ex. Can he keep her safe? Fast-paced read with loads of drama, suspense and steam. An entertaining and action packed read with great chemistry. I liked it.
the heroine is running away from her abusive husband, that's when she stops at a small town and begins working as a bartender, where she meets the hero. they've been friends for a while and they finally decide to take the next step.
it was cute, but the husband drama was just too much, and every time they fought he wouldn't listen to her, but he would listen to any guy that gave him advice instead of listening to her.
“That the moment I met you was the moment I found myself. That my home, my forever . . . is right here.”
Waiting For Foreveris the fifth book from theMen of Rocky Mountainseries by Alexis Winter. Through dual perspective, we follow Ryder and Stephanie Jolene Hartman in this Friends to Lovers, Second Chance Romance story that leads to love, loss, hope and ultimately freedom.
Ryder and Stephanie may have lived completely different lives, yet they connected with one another on a deeper level, showcased through their undeniable chemistry they shared with letting off sparks from the get go.
For Ryder being a firefighter has meant always saving lives. So when Stephanie walks into his life and shares her story, he can’t help but become overly protective wanting to be her hero/saviour. Even though she never asked for and/or wanted that. So what will he do when it leads to him feeling helpless?
As for Stephanie, having been alone for most of her life she has always relied on herself mostly. Especially from being shipped around in foster care. But when she meets her now husband Daryl Sellers, she thinks everything will change. However that isn’t the case at all, leading her to move away where she meets Ryder. But when feelings become involved what will she do knowing her past could come back to haunt her?
The angst in regards to the emotional turmoil that Ryder and Stephanie suffered throughout the span ofWaiting For Foreverallowed Alexis Winter the opportunity to have you feel all the feelings within what turned out to be an overly emotionally charged plot from the pain, heartache, sadness, grief, trauma, sorry and misery.
Through a rough terrain full of bumps and obstacles, given the trek that Ryder and Stephanie set upon was anything but smooth sailing when it came to their story of journeying to their HEA. Especially when Stephanie’s past comes crashing back, threatening to destroy the new found happiness with Ryder in the new life she had built for herself. Ultimately resulting in a story that was filled with drama, mystery and a whole lot of suspense from the thrilling moments. But also there was Fire, given the Slow Burn of Ryder and Stephanie’s relationship that paved the way to some Hot and Heavy Spicy moments causing billowing smoke with just how steamy and intense it truly had gotten.
It should be noted that Stephanie truly was a resilient and strong woman. Despite the trauma she faced with what her husband put her through, she always fought back. Never giving up no matter how bad it got, especially with willing to put herself at risk to achieve her freedom. And for that she deserved to be commended, since it was no easy feat to do all that she did to put it behind her once and for all. She truly was a survivor and not a victim at all!
Ryder who had been established as a strong Alpha male did lose who he was and his way when it came to Stephanie. Something that was unexpected to me, given his character does a 180 with him becoming overly needy, hopeless and mopey. It didn't sit well with me, since it just seemed so out of character, seeing as how he had always been portrayed throughout the majority of the story.
All in all,Waiting For Foreverwas another good read from Alexis Winter in herMen of Rocky Mountainseries. It has me looking forward to see whose story Alexis will write next.
*I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
This is the fifth book in the Men of Rocky mountain series, this is super interesting and I just couldn't put it down till I finished. It's Stephanie and Ryders story of been friends to lover and HEA. I love reading books from the author and this book is well worth the time. Well written, wonderful characters and great chemistry. I received an ARC for my honest voluntary review.
The fifth book in the Men of Rocky Mountain series by Alexis Winter, Waiting for Forever is a small town, friends-to-lovers romance. This well written, emotional, slow-burn story has secrets, danger, undeniable chemistry, drama, a bit of humor, suspense, misunderstandings, plenty of steam, and a HEA.
I volunteered to review an advance reader copy of this book.
Alexis Winter has written a 5-star book. This is the story of Stephanie (Steph) and Ryder. Stephanie has left her husband, Daryl. She know she had to leave him because if not, he was going to kill her. She moves to Grand Lake. She starts working at The Lariat as a bartender. She became friends with Ryder. Ryder felt something for Steph but was not ready for a relationship. He is still not over the loss of his wife and unborn daughter. Ryder asks Steph to go out for a drink with him. She agrees to go out with him. When he takes her home, they end up kissing. Steph doesn't want to get anyone else involved with her life because she doesn't know when she will have to leave again. She gets a flower delivery and she thinks it's Ryder and she calls him and thanks him for them. It turns out that he didn't send them. they are talking in her apartment when she finds out and she ends up telling Ryder about Daryl. He tells her that he will not let anyone hurt her again. Steph and Ryder end up seeing each other. One night Daryl doesn't come over and someone is at the door. Steph thinks it is Ryder and when she answers the door, it's Daryl and Rick. Daryl tells her that she is going back home with him. Ryder tries to call Steph but it just goes to voice mail. The next morning, her boss, Leigh. She wants to know if Steph was with him since she didn't show up for work. He tells her that she isn't with him but he was going to go to her apartment. Leigh tells him that she would meet him there. When she gets there, he asked if she had a key. She said she didn't but had the number to the manager Denise. Leigh calls Denise and she said she was coming over. When she gets there they go inside the apartment and see that Steph was not there. Things show them that she didn't leave on her own. Leigh knows then it was Daryl that took her. Ryder tells Leigh that he is going to go and get her. Ryder calls his friend Ranger and tells him what he is doing and asked him to go with him. Ryder gets to Steph and just as they are ready to leave, Daryl comes back home. Things don't go well for Daryl and Ryder tells him to leave Steph alone. Steph had filed for divorce and that made Daryl mad. He had told her that she was his until death. Steph is tired of running and looking over her shoulder. She decides to take her life back. She knows that Daryl is doing things that are not legal. She knows what she has to do in order to get the information to put him away. She tells Ryder what she is going to do and he is not happy about it. Steph goes back to Daryl and she looks for things in the house to help her put him away. One night Daryl comes home and decides it is time that Steph starts acting like a wife again. When she tells him she is not ready, he starts beating her. Just before he takes her to the bedroom, the FBI breaks the door down. Will the information Steph gives the police be enough to send Daryl away? Will things work out for Steph and Ryder? This was a wonderful book and I would recommend it to anyone.

Waiting For Forever is Ryder and Stephanie's story in the Men Of Rocky Mountain series, and what a story it was. I had a hard time putting this book down and read it all in less then a day. It was so emotionally heartbreaking, and I can say it made me cry and I haven't found a book a cry-worthy book in a while.
In the end of Only For Forever book 4 in this series we find out the Stephanie is married and on the run. What we didn't find out at the time is all the tragic things she had to endure not only in her abusive marriage, but her childhood growing up the the foster care system. She didn't anticipate meeting Ryder when she took a bartending job at the Lariat and slowly falling for him and his charming ways. She also didn't anticipate her abusive husband and his cousin to find her and complicate her life. But tired of being on the run she comes up with a plan to hopefully get him out of her life for good.
Ryder is the Thor lookalike fire chief of Grand Lake and has also had a tragic loss in his past with the passing of his wife and unborn baby when they were sadly taken by a drunk driver. He would go to the town bar after a long shift and that is where he met Stephanie and the attraction was instant for both and they started flirting with each other for close to a year and he finally asked her to "hang out" the chemistry between them was off the charts hot. But he got scared of what was starting to happen between them and pushed her away when she needed him the most saying that she deserved better then him.
Let's just sat they both ended up miserable for a couple months until she showed up declaring her love and that being with him felt like "home" and there was nowhere else she wanted to be. The obstacles they had to endure just to find their way back to each other was heartbreaking to say the least and I'm not ashamed to admit that it made me cry. This whole series is amazing and I can't wait to add this one to my bookshelf.

This is the 5th book of the Men of Rocky Mountain series and it has been no secret that I have been loving this series. While these are written as standalones, I recommend the entire series or atleast Only for Forever. Ryder and Stephanie were seen in this book and I think it will help get an idea about their relationship. The book starts off with them already wanting to date. That might make it seem like an insta-love kinda thing but they had known each other for a bit at this point. The story was very fast paced though.
Stephanie starts off the book as she is escaping from her home with her husband. She is a strong woman who has been through a lot in her life, she went from foster home to foster home and then got married to her much older boyfriend. He quickly turned abusive and there were a few scenes with this, so if that is a TW then beware. Stephanie has been hiding out ever since leaving her husband and has not told many people about her past. Ryder has helped her reach a level of comfort that allowed her to open up to him about her past. Ryder is such a sweet caring soul who has also gone through a loss and heartbreak of his own. I loved watching him fall for Stephanie and be there to support her. Unfortunately their love story isn’t smooth and they have a lot of struggles to work through before they get their happily ever after. Aside from all their pain is a couple who have a lot of chemistry together and have fun together.
This book is an emotional journey with some very heavy topics. It is fast paced with a lot of back and forth between the main characters and was beautifully told. Alexis never fails to write such wonderful love stories.
Waiting for Forever is the 5th book in Alexis Winter's Men of Rocky Mountain series but this story can certainly stand on its own. Since I have read the other books in this series I have been waiting FOREVER for Ryder, the Thor look-a-like fire chief, to get his story- and this one was definitely worth the wait. The heroine in this story is a survivor of domestic violence and there are a few scenes where the violence is depicted. While it is not overly graphic, it is still present, so if that subject matter is something that you are sensitive to then this may not be the book for you or at least proceed with some caution.
I have to say that Waiting for Forever is an emotional yet sexy and suspenseful journey that had me gripped from the prologue. The story is heavy- no way around that fact- but sprinkled in between there are some cute moments with humor, drama that is riddled with suspense and I cannot leave out the fact that in spite of all of his attempts to be an upstanding gentleman- Ryder and Stephanie can be downright dirty in all the best ways.
Stephanie has been on the run from her abusive husband for years- but after a year of flirtation with the handsome fire chief, the prospect of having to run leaving him and the other relationships she's formed in Grand Lake behind pushes Steph to finally face her demons. AKA her husband Daryl and his sheriff cousin Rick. Ryder is all kinds of swoon-worthy gentleman despite the blows that life had dealt to him. He's experienced love and heartbreaking loss but recognizes that his heart had found happiness again with Stephanie the man would do literally anything he could to keep her safe and happy. Stephanie's character is strong and resilient, showing just how far she has come in her life but her need to finally be self reliant coupled with Ryder's need to shelter and protect the ones he loves causes some friction in what was already a delicate relationship. I do really like these two together though. I think they fill a void and complete each other even if it they took a few turns and pit stops along the way.
Another lovely story in Alexis Winter's Rocky Mountain series. How could Steph tell Ryder about her past ? he is a hunky Firefighter from a good family, what could she offer him ? Steph Hartman had been orphaned as a young child, she had been passed from Pillow to post in the foster system so when she was charmed by older Daryl Sellars she saw a way out and married him at soon as she could, all was sweet.........until it wasn't. Daryl soon turned, Steph was a slave to him, she was abused and had many visits to hospital where she lied about her injuries, she couldn't get help because Daryl's cousin was sheriff and they were as thick as thieves. Steph made a daring escape and settled in the small town of Grand Lake where she trained as a Pilates teacher, life was sweet but she could never let her guard down. Steph soon caught the eye of firefighter Ryder, his pregnant wife had died in a car crash, he was very attracted to Steph but was he ready to move on ? As the romance blossomed, things turned dangerous when Daryl found Steph, she had to confess all to Ryder. This story follows the love of Steph and Ryder, the demons that they both face, Ryders determination to protect Steph, can they work their way through this ? A lovely emotional story, I look forward to the next one.

I received this ebook ARC, from the author, on the condition that I write an honest review. This book was very hard to put down. I completely became immersed in the story and the characters. As always, this happens, whenever I read a book written by Alexis Winter. She has a way of taking the reader into the story and live the situation. Ryder is young man serving his town as Captain of the fire station. He has gone thru a hard loss, of his wife, and infant, several years ago. He has only dated sporadically, but hasn’t found his one true love. He meets Stephanie while she works a local bar, and is immediately attracted to her. Stephanie also has come out alive, after an abusive marriage, a marriage that she ran away from. She constantly has to look over her shoulder, and never feels secure or safe. She has also felt attracted to Ryder, but she is scared. Ryder pursues her, and they begin a relationship, and both begin to develop trust in each other. Things are going well, until Stephanie’s ex kidnaps her back to his house. The abuse begins again, but Ryder comes to save her. They go though several misunderstandings, and she returns to her ex, as an attempt to find anything to incriminate her ex. After finding lots of info, the FBI arrests him. Stephanie returns to Ryder, but he feels that he is holding her back, with a broken heart, she leaves to travel and find herself. When she returns, she confronts Ryder and they profess their love to each other, and finally reach their HEA. This was another hit for Alexis Winter, and I highly recommend this book.
Stephanie leaves her abusive husband in the dead of night. Now years later she has settled and is starting something with a new guy. Stephanie realizes that she needs to move forward and starts divorce proceedings against her husband. However, nothing goes as planned and things get even more complicated. Ryder is attracted to Stephanie and wants to be with her. When she finally tells him her story, he just wants to help her. Will her husband cause things to be more complicated? Can Ryder wait for her to get things settled?
This is a great story that once I started it I couldn't put it down. This is a well written and very entertaining story. I would recommend this book to any book lover.

This was a good read. Stephanie was in an abusive marriage and she takes off. She meets Ryder and they hit it off. However, he is dealing with his own issues. Of course thing are complicated with them. Thankfully in the end everything works out and they get their happy ending.
I thought this romance was so emotional. I admit that I was terry-eyed as parts of this book is so heart-wrenching and sad as I really really feel for Ryder and Stephanie. However, they compliment each other and I thought they had such a sizzling chemistry together, There is so much going on in this story that I couldn’t stop reading.
I received a free advanced review copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a fair and honest review.
Defeating the Hurt of the Past and Reaching for a Future of Love
Stephanie Jolene Hartman, as a child of the foster system for her first 17 years, had learned not to have big dreams or aspirations. As she was shuffled from family to family, all of her personal belongings packed in a large trash bag, all she sought was to survive so that she could eventually escape. And so, she learned to keep her dreams small which was how she came, at the age of 17, to accept the proposal of marriage from Daryl Sellars of Lander, Wyoming, a 24-yr-old man who was a virtual stranger. But he made her promises of stability that her young vulnerable heart could not resist. And so, with no real caring guidance, Stephanie had, by the time she was 18, married Daryl and had begun, for the first time, to dream of a place that could be her permanent home with a man whom she could learn to love and who could love and value her.
And, for the first year of marriage, the tall, slender beautiful woman with chocolate brown hair was lulled into the simple dream of the love of an apparently good older man and a life of happily-ever-after. But within a year of marriage, Daryl had ended her dreams of love with his drinking, his fist, his abuse and her broken bones and blackened eyes. So, Stephanie began to fashion another dream, a dream of escape—a dream of a life away from Daryl. And through careful observation, plotting and patience, Stephanie was able to escape her husband.
For weeks she slipped money out of the safe that was locked with the numbers of his birthdate—enough money to buy and old car, pay to have it stored and still leave her and escape fund, but not enough to be detected. So, after carefully preparing him a delicious dinner, and she add sleeping pills to his iced beers, and she ran—literally—through the 4 miles of woods where her newly purchased get-away car awaited. And she drove, mile after mile, until she final stopped in Virginia Dale, Colorado, a small community where she was able to find work as a bar tender. And there she stayed, connecting with people like Celeste Slade, and thriving for 2 years until her survival instinct once more sent her running. And she ran, not far, but away from her developing false security.
So, with her relocation to the nearby community of Grand Lake where she once more could use her skills of mixing drinks and listening with a sympathetic ear as a bartender at The Lariat. And there she met the members of the community like Leigh Brooks who had recently opened a Pilates studio. And, she also allows herself the attention of the local fire chief, Ryder, a single, handsome big man with dirty blond hair held in a manbun whose past losses often shadowed his piercing blue eyes. And finally, Steph begins to find herself, not the timid abused woman who was shaped by years of foster care followed by an abusive man, but the Steph who was willing to take a risk by making friends.
And, she followed her passion of Pilates to train and become certified and to work for Leigh, running the local exercise studio. And, she finally gave herself permission to actually consider a man, especially a big man, as someone who was not a source of pain and control. But taking a risk like a relationship with Ryder is both a positive and a negative. While it is wonderful for her to connect with Ryder—he is kind and gentle—unlike any man she has ever encountered, he also makes her want to start fresh, to rid herself of past evil alliances, to file for divorce from her abusive husband. But opening her heart makes her vulnerable—vulnerable to emotional hurt, but also vulnerable as she begins to put down roots and attempts to legally break away from her past. And the longer she stays in Grand Lake, the more vulnerable she becomes to discovery by Daryl and his cousin Rick, the sheriff of Lauder, Wyoming with his access to legal data banks and court filings.
Alexis Winter continues to offer the reader love stories based in and around the small Colorado community of Grand Lake. Each story is unique, but it is pleasant to encounter friends and families as love and forever continue to be the focus.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review, but always enjoy Winters’ world of romance, so I bought a copy.
This was almost 4 stars, but not quite, but we'll still give it to them. It was the best of the series I'd say, but that's not saying much since the other books were 1, 2, 3, and 4 stars (rounded up) in the series. I have never been so happy to be done with the book series as I am with finishing this book.
This whole series was overly emotional characters - both men and women - which was super annoying.
So yeah, it's not quite worth 4 stars, but definitely better than the other one I rounded up. The character for Ryder (long dirty blond hair) didn't match the book picture. A pet peeve of mine too. You can choose your book cover... Why wouldn't you have them match the book description?!
Emotional men just aren't my thing in books. Can they have feelings? Yes. Absolutely! But is it sexy when they doubt everything yet claim to be an alpha male? Nope. Not even a little. Is it sexy when they're crying huge tears? No. Is it sexy when the women are overly emotional basket cases? No. Does it happen? Sure. Here and there. But I swear every book the girl was "crying huge tears with snot everywhere". What are they, five?! It was almost comical if it wasn't so cringy. The author doesn't seem to have a very good range in writing characters. Some of the scenes in this book feel very much like the other books in the series. Like every guy pushes the girl up against the outside wall at the bar or whether they are? Seriously?
Stephanie was a bit better in some regards because of her background. She had her super bad ass moments of getting Daryl and gathering evidence and taking one for the team. But she still had her moments - like the snotty tears she's crying... Just, no.
And Ryder. Dear Ryder. Why are you legit thinking Stephanie is voluntarily wanting to dance with Daryl when you know the only reason she's there is to gather evidence and have a future with you? Stop being a pansy.
The authors writing style leaves little to appreciate. I'm not sure if they're new or what but the overlap of timelines is unappealing and just super annoying. Move the story along. I don't need both perspectives in present time. Ugh. Probably won't read more by this author and definitely won't seek out books by them either.
Stephanie was in an abusive marriage with Daryl for ten years. She finally got up enough courage to leave him. She has been in Grand Lake Colorado for the past year and she has been gone from Daryl for three years. Stephanie started out as a bartender at The Lariat and now she is an instructor for Pilates. She met Ryder while she was working at the bar and they flirted a lot. Ryder is the Fire Chief in Grand Lake. He was married to his high school sweetheart Tara and she was pregnant with their daughter until they were killed by a drunk driver. Ryder hasn’t dated a lot since losing Tara but he does have a connection to Stephanie. Ryder wants to date Stephanie but she is very cautious. She ends up telling Ryder about Daryl. Stephanie is terrified that Daryl will find her. One night Stephanie and Ryder are suppose to go on a date so when someone knocks on her door she looks out the peephole and sees flowers so she assumes it’s Ryder. It’s Daryl and his cousin Rick the sheriff from Wyoming. Stephanie had finally filed for divorce and here is Daryl and his cousin Rick to take her back home. Ryder shows up to pickup Stephanie but she doesn’t answer. The next day Leigh Stephanie’s friend and boss calls Ryder to see if he knows where she is. In a panic they both go back to her apartment and they find a broken glass. Ryder immediately wants to go save Stephanie. Will Ryder be able to get Stephanie back? Will Stephanie be able to stay away from Daryl? Will Stephanie and Ryder finally find their happiness and love? I voluntarily reviewed an Advanced Reader Copy of this book.
This book right here is why I love Alexis Winter’s works. This story is filled with trauma and heartache but then so much love and passion, and I didn’t want it to end.
The fifth book in the Men of Rocky Mountain series focuses on Ryder, the town’s fire chief and resident Thor lookalike, and Steph, the former bartender and now manager/instructor at the local Pilates studio who has a stormy and mysterious past. They first met while Steph was working at a bar in their small town, and a friendship formed. There was always an undercurrent of attraction between the two, but neither of them acted upon it for quite a long time. Eventually though, Ryder and Steph’s relationship went from just friends to a whole other level. Then just as they’re becoming more than friends in comes Steph’s past, and so much happens from there. This book delves into topics of physical, emotional, and mental abuse at the hands of her ex, and it explores the evolution of Ryder and Steph’s relationship from friends to lovers and all of the complications in between.
The premise of this book is heavy for sure, but it’s a topic that is so important. Steph’s life has been so hard and filled with loneliness and fear, and this story has so much emotion laced throughout every bit of it. Sure, there are steamy and swoony bits that I absolutely adored, but then there are the more difficult parts. Those are the parts that will break your heart, but then from those we get to see this wonderfully courageous and strong heroine that’s found it in herself to take charge and do what she needs to do to finally fight for the sort of life she wants. Steph’s story shows a woman at odds with her fear and her longing for something more, something better. The way Steph perseveres is nothing less than admirable, and I loved every bit of her transformation.
And then there’s Ryder. I’m completely wowed. He’s seriously that good. Ryder’s not just the swoony fire chief that’s good to his very core; he’s complex and at times frustrating, and it makes him my favorite male character in this entire series. I loved seeing how he started off seeming like this formidable and sexy alpha of a character, but then the deeper you get into the book, you realize he’s so much more than just the hot fireman. He’s the perfect counterpart to Steph’s character, and the way they play off each other feels exactly right.
This is a wonderfully composed story that deals with difficult subject matter, but it’s done so well. This story has a lot of emotion, suspense, and drama but with a lot of sweetness and steam, and I can’t recommend it enough.
Stephanie grew up in foster homes & met an older guy who promised a better life when she turns 18 so they can get married. Turns out it was a wrong decision as Daryl was an abuser, leaving her broken, physically & mentally. Having had enough of being a punching bag & treated worse than gum on your shoe, she takes the biggest risk to dash for freedom. Not staying very long in the towns she has traveled to, she lands in Grand Lake & feels like a part of the community, enjoying her work & the people she meets. Ryder shows an interest in her but with her dark secrets, she wants to protect him from Daryl, should he find her. Keeping Ryder at arms-length doesn't work & their instant attraction overflows for each other. Steph has decided to take a stand & stay in Grand Lake, not continuing to run & hide. Daryl surprises her one night & drags her back to Wyoming to be the dutiful wife. Her choices - stay with an abusive husband or return to Ryder? You'll have to read this novel to find out what Steph's destiny will be. Definitely a must-read story as it is one that has kept me captivated right from the start!
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
I love all Alexis Winter's books, even when I don't like everything about them. Once again, she has written about a guy who it is going to be easy for you to fall in love with, but also who you are irritated by a little. I loved how passionate and considerate and loving and respectful and demonstrative, and faithful he is. Ryder is just my guy. Now Steph took a little time for me to tolerate. I loved her in the "Only For Forever" and the part she played in Leigh and Grant's relationship, but keep reading even if you don't like her too much in the beginning. You will like her as you continue through the chapters.
And I only say "don't like her" in the sense that I think she gave Ryder mixed signals in the beginning and then completely changed the process so quickly. The bed situations with these two are over the top and fantastic. You will get to feel such an emotional pull from both of these characters based on their history with past relationships. Ryder's conversation with his father and a visit he made to his past (can't detail....I feel is a spoiler thing, maybe) was gut wrenching and may make you cry.
It makes you feel warmth and sympathy and pride for them and the way the details of their story is written is great.
Ryder and Stephanie deserve an HEA after their heartaches and past experiences This was undoubtedly a steamy book as all of Ms. Winter’s books, but this was poignant too with a heart-pounding start. Actually, my eye glasses were left speckled with tears a few times. Steph is terrified that her abusive husband will find her and take her back or worse, kill her for running away from him. Steph has been on the run for three years. In her current place, she and Ryder have been flirting for a year and he finally asks if they can hang out together. She takes the initiative and sets a date! He wants to be a gentleman and she wants the sexy Fire Chief to show his stuff. Poor Ryder is still mourning the loss of his wife Tara and their unborn baby but there is just something about Steph that reaches him. Their love scene in chapter 24 will have you clinching your knees. There will be lots more steam, angst and scary moments before they reach their happily ever after. If you like explicit love scenes with lots of heat but also romantic moments between two deserving people, try this book. I volunteered to review an ARC of this book through Booksprout.
“We need to have a conversation about limits and boundaries—about what we like and want. I’m greedy, Stephanie, and I’m going to want all of you in ways that even you might not have experienced yet, and I don’t want to scare you.”
Waiting For Forever is the fifth book from the Men of Rocky Mountain series (which I have LOVED) by Alexis Winter. Release day was 2/14 but I was lucky enough to read it a few weeks ago thanks to @alexiswinterauthor and @embers_ashespr. The series is made up of stand-alone stories but Stephanie and Ryder do appear briefly in a prior book in the series. I feel like this story touched on some heavy subjects but did so without being dark which can be a nice change from some of my reads. This was a bit of an emotional rollercoaster for Ryder and Stephanie (and me) because of the outside forces but we do get our HEA in the end.
Ryder - long haired firefighter who is obviously a gentleman in the streets but a freak in the sheets…lost his wife and unborn daughter, musician, alpha male Stephanie - waitress/bartender turned yoga instructor that left an abusive relationship, still looking over her shoulder, also had a rough childhood Themes- second chances, starting over, friends to lovers, loss, grief, and independence/freedom
Stephanie is a survivor. She survived life in foster homes and life with an abusive and controlling husband. Three years ago, Stephanie was brave enough to finally escape him and to start a new life, even if she is still constantly looking over her shoulder. She has settled in a small town, started a new life and now she has met Ryder, a firefighter, who makes her tingle with awareness.
I won’t go into detail, but parts of this book are very implausible to me. Some of the actions of Stephanie are not in keeping with a woman who has been abused and who has managed to escape from her abuser. The way Ryder, a firefighter whose nature is to serve and protect, reacts to Stephanie’s actions doesn’t sit well either. Be that as it may, the chemistry between these two people who have had the worst of luck when it comes to love is fierce and intense. Fate has brought them together, and though their path forward has a whole lot of bumps and pitfalls, they find the courage to love again.

This was friends to lovers with what I feel like was a smidge of suspense thrown in that added a little extra oomph to the story.
Ryder, well, he’s a super hot and sexy firefighter with a frickin’ heart of gold. He was so sweet. I freaking cried with him so many times during this story. He only wanted Stephanie to be happy, no matter what. And how he knew that he had room in his heart to love both his first wife but was also ready to move on with Stephanie? He was just amazing.
Stephanie was such a strong female lead. She has been through so much crap in her life and she is ready to face it head on and fight. I thought she was brave in the face of danger and loved that she wasn’t going to let someone else save her, she was going to save herself.
The chemistry between these two was insane. I loved the heat, the steam, the naked guitar playing!!
Stephanie is on the run from her abusive husband. Shes been running for 3 years. She lands in Grand Lake. She starts out working in the bar and then starts managing a Pilates studio and teaching classes. One of her favorite customers at the bar was Ryder, the local Fire Chief. Hes muscular, sexy and just takes Stephanies breath away. One night he stops in the Studio and asks her out as friends. She agrees and they hit it off. But her ex soon finds her and takes her back. Ryder wont stand for it and goes to get her back. Before he gets her, her ex threatens her with all his crimes being linked to her. Now she doesnt know what to do. She goes with Ryder and does tell him but she takes off after talking to him to get the dirt she needs on her ex. Will this destroy them or will she come back to him. OMG this book is amazing with the right amount of drama to keep you flipping the pages.

They both will get a second chance at finding love
This book is amazing! Sweet and heartfelt with a little danger and sadness, the story of Stephanie and Ryder is an absolute must read! She is on the run from her abusive husband and he is getting over the loss of his wife and unborn daughter in an accident. They will meet and become friends but after some time, they try at being more. But her past won’t let her go and it will come for her. I love how supportive and protective Ryder is towards her and what he is willing to do to help her. It is a bit of a bumpy ride when she proposes a plan to keep her ex from coming after her again and it will put a bit of distance between her and Ryder. In the end, they will realize that what they feel for each other is real and worth fighting for and it will lead them to a wonderfully happy ending.

I think I have a new favourite book from this author. Strap in, because this is a bumpy emotional ride. This is the fifth book in the series but can be enjoyed as a stand-alone.
Ryder's entire world stopped mattering when he lost his wife and unborn daughter, he closed himself off and refused to allow anyone in. That changes when he meets Stephanie and she needs help. Ryder's nature takes over and he does everything he can to protect her and keep her safe. This is a slow-burn love story, but once it's there the steam is off the charts. The chemistry between our couple melts the pages while they melt the sheets. Their road to accepting each other is not smooth but readers enjoy all the bumps because it makes the happy ending that much more satisfying. I loved every moment of it, even when I felt emotionally broken.
