3.5 stars. In this version of The Gingerbread Man, a wolf makes the cookie to steal a key. Who or what will defeat the gingerbread man? This was a fun variation on a classic fairy tale!
I loved this story. It would be great to pair with an original gingerbread man story or a unit on folktales. The illustrations are colorful and whimsical. The evil wolf is at it again and wants to get his hands on the magical key. He cooks up a gingerbread man and sets in motion an evil scheme right under the rest of the fairytale characters' noses. I think kids will laugh out loud and love this story. Highly recommended for Grades K-3.
The three little Superpigs are back and must save the key to the city from a gingerbread man created by the Big Bad Wolf from his jail cell. Evans weaves elements of The Gingerbread Man with the story she wants to tell about these superheroes. In the end, they both capture the Gingerbread Man and win the key to the city. Elementary level readers will love the silly action throughout. Evans even gives them a food to think "yuck" to.
Just as fun to read aloud as I had hoped it would be when I saw it at my Scholastic Book Fair this fall. This was one of my biggest check outs in December for staff and students. Clair Evans has brought joy with her story retellings, for sure! I read this book to about 10 classes in two buildings in December and then read it, again, today. Fun books should be on our library shelves and series books get students to read more and more. A must purchase for elementary level collections.
A total smash-up adventure involving The Three Little Superpigs who during Fairyland's annual Bake off contest, thwart the plans of the Big Bad Wolf to steal the key to the city. The Wolf creates a Gingerbread Man to steal the key, and the chase is on.
This book is about the three pigs--who are now superheroes--that are in a baking contest with other fairytale characters competing to win the key to the city. The big bad wolf is locked in the Happily Never After tower and plans on escaping during the contest. The wolf creates the Gingerbread Man to help with his escape by having him in the baking contest with everyone else. I enjoyed reading this book. I love how there were multiple different characters from other stories tied in with this one. I also love how the story had a different twist to it that kept it engaging. I believe this book would be great for children.
