As an award-winning journalist, Brynlee Adams’ life has revolved around work for the last couple of years. Regretting missing out on so much time with her family, she decides that this year for Christmas, she was finally going home. Her plans get derailed as her flight has to make an emergency landing due to severe weather conditions.
Determined to make it home, Brynlee decides to drive the remainder of the way. As fate would have it, she runs into car trouble and turns for help in the most unlikely person, her ex-husband, Sage Proctor.
Sage Procter never expected to be under the same roof with his ex-wife again. Yet her being in his home forces feelings to the surface that neither of them had dealt with. Circumstances have them contemplating whether their divorce was made in haste. They must ask themselves… Was their reunion simply by chance or by fate? Will they risk it all or throw it all away?

Second chance romances still reigning supreme. I adore this trope! This is a holiday romance about a divorced couple running into each other again, wondering why they split in the first place and trying to make things work.
Where Hearts Lie was such an adorable book. Brynlee and Sage were so deserving of their second chance. Poor communication, among other things, led to the end of their marriage. Four years later, fate said "hold my beer" while she brought these two back together. Brynlee and Sage's reconciliation was not easy. They both had to get past hurt feelings and broken hearts to meet each other in the middle and finally have that long overdue conversation. After a brief stint in couples counseling and some much needed advice from the OGs (AKA the parentals), Brynlee and Sage finally got their shyt together to make their relationship work. Where Hearts Lie was such a sweet second chance love story. It'll give you all the feels and tug at every single one of your heartstrings.
I Love Their Story! I’m always down for a really good second chance romance. In this case this is an ex-husband & wife reconnecting. Because of bad weather, Sage & Brynlee get the opportunity to work through old history and issues. This is such a cute story.
Brynlee decides to head home for the holidays but gets stuck in a snowstorm. She’s in luck because her ex-husband, Sage, lives close and she’s able to stay with him while they ride the storm out. These two had an amicable divorce, but it’s clear there are some unresolved feelings between them.
It was sweet to see how they still felt so much for each other, but were young and didn’t know how to communicate or fight for each other. Emotions aside, their physical chemistry was certainly never an issue because these two together had enough steam to melt that lil blizzard.
Definitely recommend this second chance, Christmas novella!
TROPES: Black romance/BIPOC/OWN voices; Christmas novella; second chance after divorce; forced proximity
First, the way these two reunited all friendly and what-not, I knew it was too good to be true. Let me tell you, Brynlee tap-danced on my every single last nerves. Girl, what do you want? Brylnee was super immature IMO. Both she and Sage had the poorest communication skills. But I'm glad of the effort they finally put in to make it work. 3.5⭐ but rounding up to 4⭐
Brynlee is home for the holidays and is looking forward to some much need quality time with her family and a healthy dose of R&R! There’s just one thing slowing up the process. Her flight made an emergency landing and when she decides to drive the rest of the way, her rental stalls on the side of the road. With nowhere left to turn, she calls the one person that she knows will always come to her rescue…. her ex husband Sage. Sage and Brynlee were inseparable at one point but after 5 years of marriage and feeling more like roommates than lovers, they amicably decide to divorce. Or at least that’s what they thought. It’s not until they’re snowed in and forced to rehash what caused their marriage to fail that they begin to question if they fought hard enough. After staying at his home and reminiscing on old times, sparks begin to transform into a fire! One that only simmered over the years and never completely died out. Emotions were high and feelings were still raw. It’s clear that Sage is still very much in love with Brynlee and the same goes for her. This was an intense second chance romance especially when these two began pointing the blame. I’m not gone front, Brynlee was selfish and I think Sage deserved better. But hey the heart wants what it wants 🤷🏽♀️ Even though the holidays are technically over I was told that as long as y’all still have y’all trees up, I can get away with this read. 🤣😩 Anywho I enjoyed this read and recommend adding it to your TBR.
I love a good 2nd chance love story. I realized that I hadn't read this story from KB's catalog, so even though I don't care too much for holiday reads, I figured I'd give this a go. Glad I did.
Brynlee and Sage were meant to be, yet really needed better ways of communicating that to each other. They should've never divorced, yet had they not, they might not have come back to each other in a better place to say what was truly on their hearts.
I loved the bond that each had with the others family. It's a blessing to have your parents and then to have them wholeheartedly love your spouse is an even bigger blessing. I'm glad both Sage and Brynlee took heed to what their family was telling them.
I hope this isn't the last of these two. While this was a quick read, I loved the love between these two.
Queen Kimberly has given is another amazing love story. This second chance at love Christmas novella was so amazingly good. Brynlee & Sage were made for each. Now they both drive me crazy, made me wanna reach through the pages and shake some since into them. To know that they both went all those years and never moved on from each other😔. That's how you know you lost a great one. Although their journey back wasn't an easy one, with the love and support from their families they made it happen. That ending was perfect💕
I enjoyed this quick Christmas second chance love story. Sage and Brynlee are characters that you can fall in love with as they navigate through the ups and downs of love. Sometimes being snowed in can be a good thing. This was a great way to start off my Christmas reads.
This was so incredibly sweet. Some times we give up too easily in relationships and Sage & Brynlee were a prime example of that. This was beautifully written and I loved the connection between the characters as well as their families. So worth it
3.75⭐️ I loveeee second chance but this one just did not hit for me. The FMC drove me nuts. The reason her & Sage not being together was dumb! I will say by the end of the epilogue I liked how it all came together.
Great holiday story. I love this authors writing style. I love this story of reconnecting with an ex. Brynlee and Sage were meant to be. I’m glad they put their pride to the side and came together.
Brynlee and Sage had such great chemistry but they didn't know how to communicate effectively. There love for each other was undeniable. This story showed the importance of proper communication. And that what's meant to be will be.
Cheers to Miss Kimberly for delivering a beautiful Christmas novella. From start to finish I was hooked to every word. I loved the flow of the story and the overall chemistry of the characters! Great job!
Alright now Kimberly! This read gave me all the feels! It was so obvious that Brynlee and Sage were still in love with each other. They found their marriage in a rut, and were afraid to speak on it and the work that needed to be done; and let it go too easily. Spending that time together brought all of their dormant feelings to the surface, but what now? Although the conversations got heated and were intense, they were needed to really have them both understand what happened in the demise of their relationship. I could feel the love that they felt for each other, and on the other hand could feel the frustration, anger and sadness when they were trying to figure things out! What a sweet second chance love story, for two people that were so deserving of each other! Great job! 👍👍👍
Mrs. Brown has brought us some holiday cheer filled with love and reconciliation. Reconciliation did not come without compromises along with seeking professional and personal counseling. I love the fact they both were willing to do the work. Sage and Brynlee had the type of love that withstood the test of time. They were able to rekindle it after a five-year hiatus which speaks volumes. Sage was that guy that knew he wanted his forever when he fell for Brynlee all those years ago. Brynlee knew from experience no other man could fill Sage's shoes. They were the missing piece of the puzzle for each other.
This is a fantastic read, that will give you the loving holiday feels. If I could describe Brynlee and Sage story with a song, it would be, "All I Want for Christmas Is You," by Mariah Carey. I encourage everyone to read this novella. You will fall in love with 'Nala' and 'Simba' because Sage treats them just like his kids. I had to admit there were some smart dogs, especially the scene where 'Simba' closed his kennel with his paw. That part was hilarious to me. Mrs. Brown you have added another one to your portfolio. Keep them coming and I will keep indulging.
While Brynlee and her fleeing in times of trouble got on my last nerve, I loved this book...and Sage! I believe only a man of Sage's caliber could deal with Brynlee. Thankfully, he had the patience and the both of them had families who understood them and could see what they couldn't. The author did a wonderful job of focusing on their story and fully incorporating the season. Sometimes the holiday is just a backdrop that it mentioned but quickly overlooked. However, the author did an amazing job of juxtaposing Sage and Brynlee's fiery passion with a frigid winter snow storm!
This was my first read by this author, but I'm forever hooked!
I really enjoyed this book. Even though the couple, Sage and Brynlee, worked my nerves with their lack of communication. Their story felt real. When you are in a relationship for years there are peaks and valleys. When things went bad they shut down instead of communicating. Even though they were in love it seemingly was not enough and they chose to divorce.
Fate brings them back in each other's presence years later and they realize the love between them is as strong as ever. Their lives are on different paths and they have to decide is their love really enough to fight for this time? This story was very relatable and felt like something you would be supporting a friend through. Short stories don't always do it for me, but this one hits the mark.
Brynlee and Sage’s story was filled with such sweetness,a little angst because these two drove me crazy. It was also a whole lot of love !! I love a 2nd change romance and Kimberly didn’t let me down.
This story gave me all the holiday vibes. I went through so many emotions and wished that I could jump in and shake these these two characters. However, love always wins…. Definitely a great feel good read!
There's nothing like a good reconciliation that should have never had to happen in the first place. This story shows us how important effective communication is in relationships. Without out, you'll end up being alone for no reason.
This was penned beautifully with so much passion! I felt everything they felt and was all over the place fussing at them. Lol. I enjoyed how you unpacked love during a holiday season that gave hope along with love. Happy Holidays to Bryn and Sage!
