Grail Academy’s final year is about to begin when Annabel receives an invitation to attend the crown confirmation ceremony of Prince Daniel, the man she was engaged to and who’d destroyed her kingdom during her past life. Also invited is Princess Karina of Nigren, the cause of Annabel’s imprisonment and Ed’s death. But the Karina Annabel meets this time around couldn’t be more different—she’s bubbly and sweet! But just as Annabel comes to believe she and Karina can actually be friends, the other princess changes for the worse. At the same time, Nigren’s most powerful witch falls ill from unknown magic. Together with Ed, Annabel sets out to solve the mystery and prevent the destruction of her kingdom!
Yo. I read this because I was traumatized from the fourth volume of The Accomplishments of the Duke's Daughter. I did NOT expect to get traumatized again here.
My sole criticism is that the mystery took way too long to resolve. Like, as soon as it started the villain was obvious. In fact, it was obvious before it started because the foreshadowing was so heavy that it immediately put me on alert.
"what we have here is a failure to communicate!" It is a very apt quote here. Wtf!? What was that ending!? We're just gonna keep Terminator-ing this story!? Tho I do love a good time travel story. Now I wonder if the author will make the next volume available so we can find out what happens now in this wtf world?! 😂

I made it a few chapters and skipped to the end, only to discover it ends on a cluster fuck. This is the issue with time travel - inevitably there are loopholes everywhere. They are in the past of her first life, but after death (thanks author, we didn’t need to see him die) all kinds of going back to the first life seems to have happened. It’s just too much to be entertaining.

Much, much better than the first book. This one actually has some sort of villain and a goal, and does a lot more than the not much that happened in the first book.
What would you do differently if you had a chance to go back in time and restart your life?
This volume had more substance than the first volume. Volume two focuses primarily on Princess Annabel as a soon to be graduate of Grail Academy with the events leading to her death in her previous life starting to occur. However, the events are occurring faster than before as well as the personalities and interests of a few have changed. This timeline is much different than her previous one!
Princess Annabel (or Bel) is probably not my most favorite character in this light novel. Bel had a second chance in life and although Prince Daniel and Princess Karina’s personalities are different Bel was not doing anything to change her fate. Bel would have gotten engaged to Prince Daniel and things would have repeated if not for Ed. Also at the end of her first life, Princess Annabel was shown to have quite a bit of magic however by the end of this volume it doesn’t show any improvement from volume one. Princess Annabel seems to have followed in her previous life’s track by being the perfect princess which was disappointing to say the least.
Ed was probably my most favorite character in this volume but he didn’t show up as often. Ed is a magician and although it wasn’t clearly depicted, it’s noticeable that he worked hard to discover with new magic to become a Magic Count and fulfill his promise. I felt Ed was an understated character in this novel although he achieved many things by the end of this volume. I wish we had more of his view and struggles since he was a strong character and seemed to have known about this second chance at life.
The volume does a good job in repeating information and events. The story is told from Princess Annabel’s viewpoint and a lot of things are repeated. I’m not entirely sure if this is her personality because she’s shown just as clueless and forgetful in other scenes. The repetition in scenes where the suspense was building up or a mystery was solved was welcomed but the other times I found it unnecessary.
The pacing in this volume is calm and constant. Whether it’s a romantic scene or a high-intensity standoff, you’ll find the pacing the same. It made the story feel almost uninteresting at times and if it wasn’t for the main mystery between Princess Karina and Elena, I would have dropped it.
Overall, this is a good take on the typical isekai/reincarnation stories and this was just the first arc. I’m hoping the next volume and arc is much more interesting and not repetitive. The art in this volume is beautiful and very detailed. Definitely give it a try if you’re looking for a simple and calm light novel with a happy ending!
