Looks can be deceiving... When an accident is actually a murder. Amateur sleuth and proud owner of Dogwood Donuts, Maggie Sharpe, was gearing up for the holidays and having just another normal day in charming southern Missouri, when an unfortunate accident occurred in front of her shop in the wee hours of the morning. When a bus full of elderly potential witnesses on their way to a Christmas event puts out a distress call, Maggie feels obligated to find some answers.
She discovers that what she thought was an accident was actually a murder, which makes things anything but jolly in Dogwood Mountain. Maggie dives right into investigating the strange event and just when she’s certain that she’s found all the answers she’d been looking for, information is uncovered that might just lead back to someone whom she’s invited into her life and her shop.
Dealing with a crime that hits way too close to home, especially during the holidays, wasn’t at all what Maggie had expected, but she’s determined to see it through so that she can enjoy the season and get back to making her Brownie Crumble donuts.
Will she solve the crime and save the day before it’s too late? Find out in this delicious holiday Cozy Mystery!
This is a relatively new series and this book is a great addition. The writing is excellent and the storyline held my interest. The characters are fun to visit with and include two good hearted but strong women, a competent but shy police chief, and the requisite old curmudgeon with lots of snark. Join them in the donut shop and I guarantee you'll enjoy the visit.
This book was barely a mystery to me. It was more like "some odd things happened and then later we found out why." There were hardly any clues or hints and most of the ones that were present were barely introduced before they were resolved. The characters hardly did anything that could be considered investigating. For such a short book, it spent very little time on the supposed plot and mostly focused on a series of unrelated anecdotes. For example, the book begins with a tour bus hitting a truck with a dead body and then we spend all this time on how they gave them free donuts and coffee, but one lady was unhappy with what they were given. That was irrelevant to the plot and wasn't even that interesting. In such a short book, why devote time to the inanities of customer service instead of the mystery, if you have supposedly written a mystery novel?
[SPOILER] I also didn't think the plot made any sense. This woman was using her brother and sister-in-law to help her commit unspecified crimes, then she killed her own brother because her sister-in-law wouldn't help anymore? Why not just continue to use her brother (the willing participant) and forget/murder the sister-in-law (the unwilling participant)? Killing her brother makes literally no sense. I just don't understand what the point of this book was: the plot was barely present and when it was, it didn't make any sense.
Nothing like ringing in the holidays like a busy donut shop, a little crush on the Chief of police, and new people in town. When new people arrive there are always those who question their motives, but when a young woman comes asking for a job Maggie can't help but notice a few things.
Not only is Maggie an amazing sleuth, she also has a heart of gold. Helping Myra while trying to do everything she can to figure out where the deceased came from, literally falls into her lap.
I absolutely love how precious Maggie and Brett are and I hope they continue to move in the direction they are headed with their relationship!
And Orsen the cutie with a grumpy exterior but a teddy bear on the inside never ceases to amaze me. He is such a ornery and funny man, but has the absolute best of intentions.
This book was another huge win for me and I can't wait to read more!
It’s another busy day in Dogwood Mountain donut shop as a tourist bus hits a pickup in the early morning at the shop. A body is found in the truck … Maggie and Ruby are looking to hire a new employee and Myra appears with a shaky appearance but kind heart . The ladies embrace her and she is hired. We learn Myra is homeless but a hard worker. Evidence points to her as a suspect and she is arrested . The ladies want to get to bottom of who killed the man in the truck, with Orson being suspicious in the mix. I loved this 3rd book in the series. The donuts, growing friendships and possibly a romantic match in the future .. love Emma’s writing style and this series !!
This was a great book, with lots of suspicious characters, including a forlorn young girl who takes a job at Maggie's donut shop, the girl's murdered husband, and a woman who buys Maggie's Aunt's house to renovate into a bed & breakfast. Myra was hired by Maggie and Ruby, and the story got very interesting when Myra got arrested for the murder of her husband. I loved the way it all worked out when Myra was bonded out of jail and finally told her story to everyone. She was an honest young woman who had been caught up in a con but tried to pay back the people hurt by the con. Great story with a great ending!
Unknown Culprit When an accident is actually a murder. The culprit in this case was someone who wasn't suspected. Myra wasn't even guilty. I borrowed this book from Kindle Unlimited. This in no way affects my opinion of this book.
This was another fun installment in a cute new series I'm really enjoying a lot. It was Christmastime and getting a lot busier at the shop, so Ruby and Maggie hired another woman to help. But...was she a killer? What did a tour bus have to do with a dead guy? These and more answers can only be found by reading it! ;)
I just love how Orson always teases everyone at the shop, and toward the end, that stinker did something pretty cute! I'll let you read and find that out too! I'm always looking forward to borrowing this series on KU.
I'm quite charmed by this series of novella length books. Listened to the first three in one day and I would advise reading the books in order as there are a few spoilers re. the various mysteries in subsequent books. Plus there's friendship building and the donut shop shenanigans that develop with each book. Love the characters too. I would say this series is maybe 70% cozy and 30% mystery...or maybe 65/35? Definitely leans more on the cozy end of things but the mysteries are still a part of the plot.
3.5 rolled up to 4 Oh my, this story packed a lot. We get to meet some new characters while Maggie and the Dogwood Donut family try to solve a murder.
The bus of witnesses provide some comic relief.
There is a strange man that I am glad doesn't stick around and we meet Gretchen the new owner of Maggie's childhood home. She is turning it into a bed and breakfast.
I am enjoying this series quite a bit. They are short and fast reads, with each one taking me a couple of hours to finish. I especially like that the main characters don't go around deliberately sleuthing and annoying the police by doing dangerous things, which so many cozy series characters seem to do. The characters are relatable people, and I like the relationships that are forming.
3.5⭐️ I'd have liked a bit more investigation, as most of it was just them learning about one character and not traveling around interviewing people etc, however this was still an enjoyable cosy mystery. It was nice to read the blooming romance and read the evolving relationships, even as a reader who hasnt read the other books in this series.
Maggie & Ruby decide that they need more help at the shop. The new girl they hired bring a big mystery with her. Well written story with great characters. Orson is a hoot! Love the donut shop setting. I look forward to reading the next book.
A tour bus hits a pickup truck outside the donut shop early in the morning. When a dead body is found in the truck the action heats up. Maggie jumps in when her new employee is arrested for murder. Another fun read.
Wow what an adventure! I absolutely love this series! These characters truly live up to their character lives! I'm excited to start reading the next book in this series! I think I am addicted to Ms Ainsley's writing!
This is book 3 in the Raised and Glazed Cozy Mysteries Series. It is a fun, quick, easy read. It is fun getting to know Maggie & her workers at the donut shop.
This book was short and sweet. It was a cute little mystery to keep me entertained. The ending was sort of expected, and it didn't make the book super interesting. It was a good quick read, but chances are it won't get recommended to my friends.
The perfect blend of small-town charm, mystery, and heart. Ainsley has a way of making her settings feel alive, and the bakery backdrop adds a comforting sweetness that contrasts nicely with the tension of the story’s twists.
I have some to so love the characters in this series! It is really fun to read. As always talk of yummy food and a great twisty mystery. Can’t wait for the next book to come out!
Her books lack the descriptive background of the town and surrounding area and people. They are too short and with no suspense. They get solved way too easily.
