Emmett Benson makes no apologies for his bachelor status. He revels in a woman’s surrender but does not want the responsibility of claiming a submissive for his own, because no one is worth the price of his freedom. He appreciates his friends, loves his horse, and fancies wrangling cattle every day over interacting with people. When it comes to his life, he figures he has it made, and that there is no reason to alter things—now, or in the future.
But all it takes is one lousy spill off a new, temperamental thoroughbred to cause a load of trouble. One look at the prim and proper new town doctor, and Emmett wants nothing more than to ruffle her cool demeanor. The woman is likely too tightly wound to even consider submission. He cannot desire her. It is out of the question. He must be delirious from the pain of his injuries to even be contemplating the possibility of claiming her, even though she makes him want to mark his territory and challenge any man who comes near her. Still, he convinces himself it is not an issue after he leaves her office.
But then the doctor makes an unexpected house call and, with her sweet, feminine scent clouding his senses, Emmett makes her a bargain. He will behave like the perfect patient, for the cost of a single kiss, freely given. He never expected her to accept his offer.
He thought he was in trouble before, but after just one kiss, every dominant part of Emmett’s being thunders: MINE.

How to Rope a Wild Cowboy is first in the Silver Springs Ranch series and features Emmett and Grace. I've decided in 2021 that I'm going to try and read a few books that are outside of my comfort zone and so any story that includes BDSM fits that bill. I picked this one up because it's considered light in the BDSM world and because I love cowboys. Maybe even light light haha. Honestly I'm not sure.
Grace shows up in town to take over her Grandfather's small medical office when he passes. She is headstrong, independent and smart. Grace used to work in the ER at a large hospital so she is unsure if this will be the right fit for her but she's willing to keep an open mind.
Emmett works on a dude ranch with horses and ends up in Grace's office with a dislocated shoulder and bruised ribs. He immediately knows he wants Grace in his bed but so does his friend Colt. Emmett and Colt make a bet to see who can seduce her first. You can imagine where this is going right?
Emmett and Grace heat up the pages with their chemistry. I loved the push-pull with them and it was refreshing that the BDSM elements were only in the bedroom and were definitely on the light side. Emmett was possessive and at times a little controlling but Grace was such a great match for him.
Will Grace find out about the bet before Emmett can tell her? Will Emmett be able able convince Grace he wants it all? Will Grace be able to trust Emmett since she's been burned in the past?
Overall, a solid and steamy read. I'd say my problems with this story stemmed from wanting a little more from Emmett. He was injured through 80% of the book lol. It definitely was outside of the scope of things I normally pick up but I did enjoy it.
I have enjoyed books by this author before, but this one just didn’t click. The plot was pretty thin, and the characters were very flat. The lead male character, Emmet, was particularly one-dimensional. I couldn’t understand what Grace, the lead female character, could possibly see in him. Understood that they were supposed to have overwhelming chemistry … but the story didn’t make me feel it at all. I really liked the opening chapter, and I think this story had good potential. Somehow it didn’t follow through though.
To me, the one conflict type element in the story was kind of immature and didn’t fit in with adults. The BDSM elements were also sort of awkward more than steamy. I know how much effort authors put into their book, but this one was just ‘OK’. I am guessing that other Cowboys on the ranch will have their stories told. Since the overall premise definitely had potential, I will certainly read the next one in hopes that it will be more fulfilling. x
I love almost everything I have read by Anya Summers. Cuffs & Spurs, Dungeon Fantasy Club, Pleasure Island, Crescent City Kings, I love them all. This start to the Silver Springs Ranch was good, but only a 3 from me. I loved Grace, her determination, heart, and passion for her job and her patients was clear from the start. I had a problem with Emmett. I felt he was self centered, bull headed, and not what I picture as a caring, giving dom. He just wasn't my cup of tea. The book was pretty well paced, but sometimes the characters get too in their heads. I do love that Anya's female characters are for the most part emotionally stronger than the males. Over all, an OK start.

For me this story started with some nice chemistry between, Grace and Emmett with some push and pull. It seems just about everyone on the farm was a Dom which got an eye roll from me. It seemed like a lazy way for the author to have the guys all have this secret from the rest of the world.
The book became repetitive and predictable once these two got together. The book was mostly about their horizontal time and Emmett training Grace to be his Sub. Emmett does something in the story that you knew was going to come around and just cause a whole bunch of unnecessary drama in the future. It was one of those things where you were just waiting for it to blow up like a steamy cow patty in his face.
Grace’s response was predictable and pretty much by the numbers. While her situation in town was meant to tug at your heart strings and it did slightly pull at mine, I have read that plot line so many times now it seems like it’s just standard in many of these stories trying to bring that small town vibe to their story.
I’m not really a fan of calling someone Sir or Master when we are getting sweaty between the sheets, so there was a lot of skimming of those numerous pages. The story was ok for me nothing really new in the BDSM scene and nothing that really makes this story memorable.
If you are looking for something with no heavy lifting and if you are ok with the Sir thing in bed then give it a whirl.

Emmett doesn’t plan on losing his bachelor status ever. When he takes a fall off his horse, he meets the new town doctor and sparks fly. When she makes a house call to his place, he makes a bargain with her and his surprised when she accepts. How will she feel we he wants to be her Dom? Fast-paced read with intense chemistry and loads of steam. I liked it.
This is a first by this author but I can confidently say it won't be the last! I was honestly blown away by how easy I got sucked into this story and how fast I fell for these characters.
I loved Grace and Emmett . . . .*fans self* . . . Emmett and the rest of the Silver Springs Ranch cowboys are my new obsession! Especially Colton and Maverick :)
If you love opposites attract tropes, crazy OTT chemistry and characters that will pull at your heartstrings than this book and the rest of the series definitely needs to be added to your TBR list!
Quick Summary: ER doctor, Grace has moved back to the small town she left behind, to take over her late grandfather's family practice. On her first day, she meets Emmett, a wild cowboy that sparks a fire in her that both tempts her and scares her. After being burned in the past by a cowboy, Grace doesn't make it easy for Emmett, but this cowboy has a one track mind and isn't one to give up easily.
There is definitely some heavy push and pull from both sides, theres angst, a separation of a week, a lie by omission and amazing supporting characters that will just pique your interest to visit Silver Springs Ranch again! Side note: There is no cheating and no OW drama.
This would have gotten 5 star but Emmett's habit of pushing Grace and then sending her away when she didn't give in to him rubbed me the wrong way. He makes up for it later but wish he hadn't been so domineering in the beginning.
I voluntarily read and reviewed a copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
I found this to be an entertaining book, though there aren’t any real surprises in it, other than the ones that stretch the bounds of reality. I could see the landmine Emmett and Grace’s relationship was driving towards a mile away. The only real question, to my mind, was: what would make it explode? Other than an unexpectedly long stubborn streak at the end, I loved Grace. She’s an independent woman who, while strong, is also vulnerable but masking it with every trick up her sleeve. That vulnerability made her endearing to me. I also really appreciated that she was willing to call Emmett out when he was behaving like a jerk and didn’t let him get away with the excuse “because I’m the Dom in this relationship.” Feelings can be big scary things when you’re not used to them and not expecting them, so I get why Emmett spends so much time behaving like an idiot. It was really nice seeing his “a-hah!” moment and watching him get his act together. I enjoyed meeting the other inhabitants of Silver Springs Ranch and look forward to reading more about them in the future. I received a complimentary copy of this book through Booksprout.
I've read a few books by this author now and consider myself to be an Anya Summers fan but I was really disappointed by this story. The men that we are introduced to seem to have not outgrown the sort of juvenile behaviour to be expected of teenage boys. The writing is clunky, particularly the first half. Grace allows herself to be spoken to horribly and yet somehow finds something in Emmett to keep her coming back. I did start liking this in the final quarter, but not enough to make up for the rest. Hopefully the other books to come in this series are better.
I just gonna post a few sentences from this book as they speak for themselves and reflect my rating:
"She bared her teeth." What is she? A dog? "Her eyes dominated her face." That's supposed to be attractive? "Sarcasim dripped from her words, her voice like silken honey." Sounds like an oxymoron to me. "Her eyes were like dark pools of mahogany framed by inky lashes." Was this lifted from an SNL skit?
I could go on and on giving examples of the ridiculous descriptions but since I only got a two chapters in, I couldn't stomach any more!
Emmet is the hot injured cowboy that new to the practice Dr Grace treats. There is some immediate chemistry between the 2 and soon the patient is dominating the doctor. The book had lots of schmexy scenes but little tension until after the 80% mark. Then Grace's stubbornness kicks in, but really, it felt like too little tension too late with an easy resolve in the end.

A wonderful story to this new series and can read well as a stand-alone. The story takes place in the small town of Winter Park, Colorado, which is also the location for Silver Springs Ranch—a working dude ranch for tourists. What starts with men carrying in an injured man to Dr. O’Neal’s practice will come with the revelation that Dr. Joseph O’Neal has passed away and his granddaughter, Dr. Grace O’Neal, has taken over his practice.
Emmett Benson has been trampled by a horse, causing a dislocated shoulder and bruised ribs. Grace, a former ER physician from Denver, is used to all kinds of trauma, relocates the shoulder, bandages the ribs, and starts him on medicine for his long recovery. She will agree to come to check him out at the ranch.
The story will have Emmett and Colt making a silly bet about who can have their way with the good doctor first. Most cowboys at Silver Springs are Doms, and sharing females have just been part of the territory. But, Emmett is taken with Grace and determined that this time, things are different.
The story includes Emmett and Grace becoming intimate almost immediately—and even what could be considered unprofessionally, with him being her patient—and what they do in the office. (I will be honest, I struggled with this part of the story—but I did feel that they redeemed their relationship by the end.)
“This was not the way to begin life in a new town—by having sex with one of her first patients—no matter how much she might enjoy it. Because after that one taste, she already knew without a doubt that he walked on the sensual dark side, and sex with Emmett would be wild, decadently naughty, and passionately dirty.”
“They might be compatible in the bedroom, with a combustible chemistry that was off the charts, but outside it, his overbearing attitude drover her crazy. And therein lay the problem. She wanted him more than she had ever wanted another man. Grace relied on logic, reason, and science. Her attraction to Emmett was none of those things, it defied all logic and reason.”
The story includes a strong, independent female doctor, who has made her way in the world, has an excellent reputation among her collages, and had her life and career planned out. But, she has been hurt by men, has very little time for anything social, and doesn’t even have friends. She is so busy, she can’t even get away to visit her only relative, her grandfather, and now, he is even gone. She must decide what to do—take over the practice, as he wanted, or sell and stay in Denver. The one thing she never expected was Emmett and the feelings she develops for him. Where he has introduced her to dominance and submission and showed her the passion within a D/s relationship. As quickly as she consents to him, that scares her too, yet her body, mind, and soul crave him and his domination.
“Pleasure unlike anything Grace had ever known infused her being. It was the most instinctive thing in the world, like a key had finally been fitted in a lock and the lock opened. Now that the proverbial Pandora’s box was open, she wanted to sample the entire cornucopia.”
Emmett is a man who has held himself back from getting too close to any woman. He has trust issues. He enjoys the power exchange and control within a dominant-submissive relationship, but it has always been playing, never serious. The feelings with Grace are unlike anything he has ever felt for another woman, and it scares him—the way he craves and needs her.
“It was like she was the woman, the submissive, he had been waiting for his entire life, and the moment they met, it was as if his soul recognized her as his and declared her mine.”
Like in all good stories, something will happen, and feelings will be hurt. Grace will feel cheap and used and start questioning her life, her plans, and her future. When a call comes from Denver with an offer for a lucrative position, it may be just what she needs. Maybe staying in Winter Park isn’t her future—but will the townsfolk change her mind at the Life Celebration of Dr. Joseph O’Neal?
“Sometimes, it’s not the family we’re given but the one we create that matters.”
The story is an erotic, emotional roller-coaster ride. It has plenty of angst, secrets, omissions, dominance/submission, heavy on sex, and some power exchange.
Dr. Grace and cowboy Emmett meet when she treats his dislocated shoulder. The rest of the book details their growing BDSM relationship and...nothing; that's pretty much all this is. This book is best -- and really only -- appreciated as pure erotica.
I want to first say that I usually like Anya Summers: her h's are strong and stay that way; her H's appreciate that strength and (rare for this genre) apologize when they're wrong; and the sex/BDSM are consensual. Usually, some story underpins the kink, but not here. This read like an uneasy blend of smut and YA (really the most charitable way of describing the bet Emmett makes -- the one and only and beyond absurd roadblock in their relationship).
I also didn't particularly like the characters. Grace has so little self-respect or concern for her professional reputation that she allows a man she's just met to give her oral sex in her new medical office where any other patient might hear. Although I appreciate that Emmett , he has such little personality beyond growling and grunting (he came off as more of a bear than a person) that I never understood what Grace saw in him -- or, really, what they saw in each other since they rarely have a conversation.
There are other problems with this book: Grace has never tried BDSM, but goes from 0 to 180 in a day; Emmett is too injured to work but not, apparently, to enjoy smexy times; and, as usual, Ms. Summers' prose is more detailed than it has to be.
2 stars. TBH, I skimmed most of this and didn't feel that I missed anything. If you're looking for a mild, consensual BDSM story with little plot and paper-thin characters, you may enjoy this if you want something pretty mindless -- which sometimes you do.
There are several other cowboys on Emmett's ranch that I assume will get their own books.
How to Rope a Wild Cowboy is the first book in the Silver Springs Ranch series. Grace is the new doctor in town, and when Emmett comes into her clinic, she never expects their connection or for him to sweep her off of her feet. But just as trust is formed and love starts to grow, a secret is revealed. Will Grace be able to follow her heart and win the heart of her cowboy?
Phew, this book is steamy and full of a connection that can’t be denied! This couple is definitely what happens when two opposite personalities attract. Grace is logical, shy, and wanting to please those around her while Emmett is cocky, all Dom, unapologetic, and completely determined. She has a deep need to help her patients, while he gets along better with horses. I loved his possessiveness and I loved her need for acceptance and love. Neither can deny the chemistry that runs like electric between them. There’s a bit of mixed emotions in the beginning of the book, trying to figure out what they truly want and not let their desires get the best of them, but I liked how they needed to work through some of their hiccups. Emmett does something early in the book that leaves you on the edge of your seat, but I was surprised at how easily I was sucked into this book and into this new series. I love cowboy romances, and oh boy, Emmett and his best friends did not disappoint! I loved the flow of this book, the drama that had me flipping pages, and I look forward to reading more from this new series!
I received this book with the understanding that I could leave a voluntary and honest review.
In this book we meet Grace O'Neal and Emmett Benson. When his book opens 3 cowboys are bringing a 4th in to a clinic the same clinic Grace is now the doctor of. Grace is back Winter Park after the death of her last relative her grandfather. He willed to her his clinic and his home. After working for years as a trauma doctor in an ER she was ready for a change of pace. What she didn't count on was this cowboy. Emmett knows what he wants and he sticks to it. He is more comfortable around the animals so works hard so he doesn't have to work the office or deal directly this most people. When a horse throws him and sends him to the clinic he meets the doctor there that he just can't get out of his head. He thinks if he can have her it will just be for one night so no harm in having a little wager with his boss. Will these two find a HEA or will the past make the future impossible?
This is an amazing introduction to this crew. It does have its ups and downs that I really want to tell you about. However I don't want to ruin the story for any other readers. I will say this book will have you hooked from the first word to the very end. I would highly recommend it to anyone and everyone.
Why is the author putting this all back on the female lead, like the male lead should just get to say I'm sorry and it should be forgotten when he violated the most sacred tenant supposedly in this lifestyle - honesty. Just because he caught deeper feelings does not make it alright to treat relations anyone so flippantly as to make them an OBJECT, less than a person of feelings with their own insecurities.
If they lie about the little things they will lie about the big things too. I don't like that bad behavior is excused simply because he's a dom and didn't intend to hurt her, when it's clear sex was just a game and he didn't take her feelings or her worth into account at all -- he was only thinking about himself. This insinuates someone less dominant shouldn't make a "big deal" about lying in the sort of relationship in which trust is crucial -- submissives are punished for the slightest dishonesty or prevarication but he's supposed to just get away with something on this scale is ridiculous.
I will start off saying this is a complete book, no cliffhanger and a HEA. It starts off with a kiss to get Doctor Grace's hot sexy patient, Emmett to cooperate. The kiss is mind blowing and sparks both of their attraction to each other and each wants more. Emmett is a dom, as are all the cowboys at Silver Springs but Grace never delved into BDSM although it interests her. There is an unfortunate bet that Grace eventually gets wind of and that almost ruins what could be a great start to a new and exciting life. I loved how dominant, yets sweet and considerate Emmett is most of the time, but it is hard to take when independent Grace has other responsibilities to take care of. There is a happy middle ground that they will figure out eventually, but even their disagreements are hot and sexy as Emmett's Dom takes control. I loved this first book of the series and can't wait to read about the other hot and sexy-sweet cowboys on the working ranch.
Dr. Grace O'Neil inherited her grandfather's medical practice when he passed away. Her very first patient was Emmett, a cowboy brought in by three other cowboys. Emmett had been thrown by a horse and then stomped on by the same horse. He had a dislocated shoulder and some badly bruised ribs. Grace was raised by her grandfather as her parents were killed when she was fifteen. Emmett was raised by his father as his mother left when he was six, and his father lived on alcohol and pills, which Emmett always claimed he was not going to turn out like his father. He refused to take the medication Grace prescribed for him. When Grace made a house call to Emmett's home the sparks did fly. He being into BDSM completely thought that Grace would make the perfect submissive. Grace was more worried he was going to hurt his shoulder. It took Emmett forever to realize that he was in love with Grace.

An interesting story about two people, Grace – a doctor who has taken over her later grandfather’s medical practice in a small Colorado ranching town, and Emmett, a cowboy who works at a dude ranch in town. They meet when Emmet has an accident and she has to help deal with the problems it has created for him. They quickly fall into a very passionate relationship that includes BDSM because Emmett is a Dom and Grace learns that she is a submissive. However, their past experiences makes it hard for them to realize how much they care for each other. As the relationship develops, a serious problems arises that almost breaks things up for them, but ultimately they are able to resolve it. The story is fast moving and both characters are interesting and recognize how the relationship is changing them. Emmett Benson is a confirmed bachelor who enjoys women submitting to him but he has no desire to submit his heart to anyone or anything. Grace is the new doctor in town, taking over her grandfather's practice. She's strong, capable and just a little vulnerable. The two meet when Emmett is hurt riding a horse. Grace fixes him up and follows up with a house call to deliver medical equipment to help stabilize Emmett's shoulder. What follows is a whole lot of push and pull - Emmett fighting himself and Grace calling him out on his attitude and treatment. Emmett, along with the other cowboys of Silver Springs Ranch, are dominant and actively enjoy the BDSM lifestyle. The secondary characters are likable you already know their stories will be great. All in all, a well written story - one that quickly sucks you into the men of SSR!

Anya Summers has just started my new obsession with the Dom/Cowboys on the Silver Springs Ranch! From the very beginning, this book grabbed onto me and I knew I'd be lost to it. Grace has returned to the small town where her grandfather had his doctor's practice and raised her when her parents died. Trying to manage her grief while adjusting to the move from a large city and working in the ER of a hospital to taking over a private practice in a small community was overwhelming, to begin with. Then add the introduction of the very large, very alpha cowboys that seemed to take over her clinic and it could take away her breath, especially the patient that was being brought in! Emmett is everything she's fantasized about and everything she's afraid of. The cowboys of Silver Spring Ranch definitely raised my heart-rate and kept me glued to the chair while I finished this fantastic read. I would highly recommend this one!
An entertaining read, once started impossible to put down Grace is the new doctor in town so to speak, she has taken over from the doctor that had lived and died working in the town her recently deceased Grandfather and although it is painful it is also filled with memories that make her smile when she thinks of the old man. Emmett is a patient that has arrived at her practice after falling foul of a horse who has trampled and injured him, the sparks between them are hot and volatile and the town folks’ tongues are wagging and they watch with great interest. This is a great read filled with hot, sexy moments you will thoroughly enjoy reading. I voluntarily received and review an Advanced Reader Copy I thoroughly enjoyed the book and look forward to reading any future publications; keep up all the great writing.
Emmett comes crashing into Grace’s life like a bull in a china shop and Grace knows when she sets eyes on him that he is someone she will not be able to forget. What should be a simple house call to check his injuries turns into a passionate embrace that is just the start of their steamy relationship. It will take all of Emmett’s cowboy charm to reel her in as Grace fights the blazing attraction she feels for him & Emmett shows her just how wicked his tongue can be. When Emmett gets Grace into the saddle, he gives her a ride she will never forget and shows her another side of himself as their relationship blossoms. Grace and Emmett work hard to make their relationship work and Emmett shows her just how much he cares when their relationship hits a bump in the road leading to their HEA.

Once again Avery has written a fun book about a cowboy Dom that will have you engaged until the last page
Emmett is a Dom just like all the other cowboys on Silver Springs ranch but there is no way he wants to train his own submissive he will just take up with who ever is available and spend the rest of his time with is horse working the ranch Then a thoroughbred throws him and he is taken to the local doctor. Dr Grace is new to town as she has just inherited the practice from her grandfather after he had a heart attack She was working as a ER specialist working 12 hour shift before that. Emmett is immediately taken with the new doctor but he knows nothing can happen there is no way she would be a submissive till a kiss paid to get him to be a good patient ignites things between them but you just know that things won't run smooth between these two.
This is very much a book about the beginnings of a relationship. Emmett is a rough tough cowboy who gets hurt by being rolled on by a horse. He is Dom with absolutely no interest in settling down. Grace is the new Doctor in town who Emmett ends up seeing first for his injuries and then because he wants to get to know her. There aren’t many surprises in this story just the ups and downs that any relationship suffers, but with a lot of sex and a lot of domination and submission. I liked the way Grace is a very confident person who has been a doctor in a busy emergency room and yet she embraces the submissive side of herself as Emmett guides her through it. Anya Summers is very good at writing books like this and I enjoyed it a lot.

★ Fate wrote this doc a cocky cowboy keeper prescription ★
—>>> Taking over her beloved Grandpa Joe’s family practice brings in one snarly but obviously injured cowboy on the very first day her clinic opens, but this was nothing compared to her previous ER stint back in Denver. Soon, however, the instant attraction she has to this cocky cowboy has her pushing aside her own rule to stay away from this particular breed of men, only to be pulled into Emmett’s ruthless orbit, one in which he is simply salivating to show her, a carnal side to herself she has never experienced before. Suddenly, Emmett knows exactly how he is going to occupy himself during his recovery, but for this reclusive playboy Dom and A-type doc, their journey will take some reckoning on both sides. Looking forward to reading more of this series, as the gang has been introduced in this first book!
When her grand father dies she comes back to the little town to take over his medical practice she's heart broken but knows this was what he wanted her first day she hears the bell ding on the door and 4 big cowboys come in holding another one she says whAt happened a horse she feels around I think he has dislocated his shoulder and then looks at his ribs don't think anything is broken but we need to do an x Ray she pots around and damn there hot and the one that's injured he is stubborn and snarky she gives him a muscle relaxant and a pain med she tells him this will still hurt asks the others to hold him and then starts to manipulate the shoulder he grunts and groans and then she here's the pop ill come out tomorrow to check on you when she goes out the next day things don't go as planned
Grace is the new doctor in town, taking over her recently-deceased grandfather's practice. Emmett shows up at her office after being trampled by a horse, and the sparks between these two are an immediate inferno! It doesn't take long before she's trying his patience and he's testing her resolve. The story is expectedly hot enough to melt panties everywhere, but their sizzling attraction doesn't overshadow the very real feelings they're developing for each other.
After a few bumps along the road as they each wrestle with the changes in their lives, they get a swoon-worthy HEA and we're left with both a book hangover and a real need for the next book in this addictive series. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.
