In my fantasy, it’s dark, isolated, quiet. I can hear my breathing and my heart racing, the pounding of my feet as I run. I run because you’re chasing me. I don’t know where you are; I don’t know if you’re even there, but I’m running because I can feel you out there, somewhere, hunting me.
We both know you’re going to catch me; we both know this ends with me powerless and under your control. I want that, but I'm going to run for all I'm worth. I won’t surrender easily.
Primal Prey is an MM, dub-con, supernatural, dark, erotic romance serial.
If rape is part of your fantasies, go for it, if not, stay away from the book.
I know my fantasies appeal to human predators, but I’ve accepted that something inside me is broken. 👀
Soooo, WOW! I wanted a quick and dirty-dark read. Thats it.
His gaze penetrates mine and sends a spike of instinctual awareness through me. I want to run; I want to see if he’ll give chase. My breath catches, my heart rate jumps, and for the first time since I was a kid, I step back from another human in fear. Delicious, tantalizing, arousing fear. 😳
It is almost impossible to describe. The book is super short and yet it managed to captivate me.
I get hard when I think about you hunting me. He, She, They, It—Call me what you want because you’re the one in control. Are you coming for me? Can I cum for you? 🥵
The paranormal aspect of the story is a bit weird, but the predator is a possessive monster so yes right up my line.
Perfection exists, and Callum is it. I’ll never let him escape me. He’s mine forever. Marked. Mated. Mine. 🔥
I like dark and possessive and Callum has more than one stalker. It's easy to like Fowler though because though he has the ability to harm, he controls himself. Can't wait to get more episodes
This is a short novella, but it packs an incredible amount of story within its pages. Callum has a fear kink. He gets off on fantasies of being chased, hunted, and controlled. Fowler is a predator. A unique blending of werewolf and vampire, he gets off on stalking his obsessions, controlling their interactions and finally, hunting and taking them. Callum catches his attention with his online postings, where he masturbates while reciting one of his "fantasies". What happens when Fowler finds another predator is stalking" his" prey? And when Fowler finally makes his move, will Callum survive the encounter? Very high non-con and slight dub-con, explicit images of being hunted/forced and a general dark tone make this an exceptionally good dark exotic tale. There's exactly the right amount of background to give you a glimpse into the characters and their motives, while also teasing of revelations yet to come. The author states that this is going to have further volumes, and I'm totally invested in finding out how this story is going to play out. Definitely recommendable!
Now this is Dark Romance! Something like this is what comes to mind when something is classified as Dark Romance!
So here are a couple applicable TWs: Primal kink, rape fantasy kink, non-con kink, stalking mentions and on page, kidnapping mentions, murder on page. A more thorough list of the TWs you can find in Ayanna's review.
Usually when it comes to PNR/Fantasy stories I want world building. Here there's nothing of the kind. Fowler is a wolf/vampire hybrid, the author uses the term... I want to say faewulf(?), but we have no idea how he became that, or if he was born like that, why he has magic or any info at all about those aspects. Callum is plain human.
Now do I care here that all my precious world building info is missing?
Why? Because it pushed all my primal kink buttons! From Callum's fantasies to Fowler's actions in the end.
This was fun! Overall I enjoyed it. The paranormal part was a total surprise, but I also didn’t read the blurb, so that’s on me. I like the idea of the Faevulf character but his complete magical control felt a bit too easy at times. He could make literally anything happen, so the success at achieving what he wanted felt less satisfying.

”Pretty sure the dude is stalking me, but I don’t have the capacity to feel fear about that. I just don’t care.”
Callum has multiple stalkers, but as he stated above, he can’t seem to care about them. That is, until Fowler comes along. Fowler, who is both predator and prey. He has urges to obsess and stalk others. We actually get his POV as well and are told that Callum isn’t the only one he’s stalking. Fowler loves it, can’t help it, but he also uses those urges to bring down other people that are much worse than him. At least he would tell you that.
This is the first episode in a serial, and it was amazing. Dark, twisted and will leave you looking over your shoulder. Maybe you want to, maybe you enjoy the chase type of feeling too. 😋
This was......interesting. While I think I would prefer it without the supernatural aspect (because it just seemed random and unnecessary) I did enjoy the read for the most part. It was very short, but there's supposed to be more "episodes" so I won't harp on that aspect.
TW: Stalking//Brief murder scene//Dub-con scene and multiple dub-con fantasy mentions.
This one didn’t work for me. I didn’t quite vibe with the writing style or kinks which is at least partially a me thing, but I also don’t really think it being paranormal added much to the story. The paranormal aspects seemed rather thrown into a contemporary book rather than this being a paranormal book. I think it all needed to be a bit more developed
Can not wait for more! And I hate that I have to wait. Callum posts his fantasies in his website, and Fowler stalks, and brings the fantasy to life. Short hot read, can’t wait for more.
Pretty much what it says on the label. I will admit I was disappointed there wasn’t really any hunting/chasing, considering half my love of supernatural predators in erotica is the hunt, and that’s what grabbed me about the synopsis. But it was enjoyable.
Fowler and Callum’s book is very intense. Two obsessive individuals with opposite kinks that make them weirdly perfect for each other. I’m curious to see where the author goes with their story.
I love the pacing of the story. It is so perfectly put together. I doesn't read like some of those cheesy cheap thrills. I enjoyed it and hope to have more.
Yearning to be hunted prey? Using those fantasies, sharing them, and the possible outcomes all kept this story rather nerve-wracking. But I read it straight through!
I agree with people who said this book could have been way darker without the paranormal aspect. It was still a lovely read, but it could have been much more! Also, I would like to keep on reading, so I hope the other episodes will come out at some point.
I REALLY want this series to continue. This book really found that balance of “sort of dubious but just enough consent to not feel like r*pe.” There was also a bit of mystery to keep me hooked. Highly recommend.
