Another nice slice-of-life dip into a long-term romantic relationship between two adult women. There is not a lot of drama to be found here, but it's cozy as hell.

Something about this series holds such a special place in my heart. I crave a love and relationship like this!! It’s so rare to find such a nontoxic sapphic relationship in a book. I could read this infinitely.

With her dreams of success coming closer, Wako is drifting apart from Ellie. Both of them are anxious about this fact, but aren’t saying anything. Toss in Ellie’s birthday, genuine yuri-baiting, and a bout of poorly considered sex and you’ve got a whole volume right there.

Ah, well, this is even better now that it’s using its format to explore the people and the relationships established during the fluffy bits. The Ellie and Wako relationship remains very solid, yet precarious. Both of them love the other very much, but getting either of them to remember that appears difficult.

Wako is working the long days to realize her dream, but the dream she wants is taking her from her very supportive lover. The time they do get together is great - these two are a very realistic pairing and we see them at their silliest, their sexiest, and their most vulnerable.

I like that vulnerability and how it’s presented a lot. It makes a great case for how important communication is - both of them are struggling and have absolutely no reason to be, but they aren’t giving voice to that and it causes problems. Ellie’s birthday is, minus the hilarious denouement, a real heartbreaker.

And how great is it to have a yuri manga actually acknowledge yuri-baiting? Two of Wako’s costars are very cozy, strictly for the furthering of their careers, although that’s a real line to be walking, as we’ll see, especially if one participant is not exactly straight.

Once Ellie’s coworker who has a crush on her gets involved in the above situation we get… actual adults doing actual adult things that aren’t long-term healthy but are so believable in that moment.

Said coworker is always just on the side of not admitting her feelings to Ellie and just on the side of supporting her crush’s relationship, but there’s always a feeling like she could really be evil if she let herself. It’s such good drama.

The start of this volume is deceptively low-key, following off the rather quiet antics of the first. The antics and exploration of Ellie’s creative output are in rare form. This, I was expecting another volume in that vein, but this is better. It’s just enough of everything to feel like a full meal.

4.5 stars - not quite a 5, but if the story keeps going this way... It’s not perfect, but this is definitely one of the best adult-focused yuri books I’m reading right now. Another instance where I’m starting to think that maybe the mangaka’s previous works walked so that this one could run.

I enjoyed Wako and Ellie's relationship more in volume 2, along with their work/friend groups getting more page time. I'm enjoying the side romance developing too.

While I said in my previous review I wasn't rushing to pick up the second volume, I did in fact pick up the next volume very quickly after. I lied to the internet and myself, I can't help but enjoy a wholesome pair of adult ladies living a life together.

Wako's career starts to move forward and she learns about Yuri Bait from her two other co-leads on the anime she is voice acting for. Kyoko and Mirei become main stays of the cast for at least this volume with Kyoko's hidden feelings under the fake baiting becoming clear. It adds some more romantic drama and a second one sided romance with Ataru's pinning for Ellie ending up with them meeting.

This story does cut between different characters perspective from time to time mostly keeping their eyes on Ellie and Wako but going to the other sapphics around them. We also get to meet one of Ellie's fan girls, well a fan girl of one of the BL works she has made. The author is clearly trying to give us a sense of place and world despite this just being out world.

Wako and Ellie's relationship does get a bit more tension with Ellie in particularly clearly starting to feel insecure about Wako's affections for her. This minor drama doesn't stop the wholesome feeling and doesn't going into "just talk to each other" annoyance territory. This volumes addition of showing that these lesbians and sapphics have sex is nice and good, it's good to see something clearly aiming for wholesome not feeling the need to ignore the fact that these people have sex lives.

What I'd really like to see from future volumes is more exploring queer identity. I wanna hear like what does Ellie think about her own sexuality with Wako being the only woman she has ever been with and ever wanted to be with. Wako is a lesbian but she doesn't seem to have every attempted to jump into the culture despite living in the city. I'd love little dips into that but I'd be happy just exploring where these new characters go and keeping up Wako and Ellie's love. I really would love to see them work on a project together and the dynamics that presents for them. Given this is being created right now and we are going through a yuri renaissance I'd love to see one of them work on a yuri project and see how exploring sapphic stuff in their work feels for them.

Overall, unlike the first volume, I leave this one knowing I want to read Volume 3, I think it's really good, I love that the women are drawn to actually look like adults, rejecting the kinda moe style a lot of Yuri is drawn in. I love this series and it might be a nicer wholesome treat then one of my all times favs Kase-san.

Established Relationship
Low stakes
Domestic
Quick read
Demographic: Seinen
10 year age gap, which can be uncomfortable for some (the artstyle makes me forget it, but as a 32yo, I can't see myself with a 22yo *shudders*)

There's the fear of routine and time making things in the relationship lose its shine, as well as missing the domestic routine bliss.

Some things I don't like about this are the same old "gay person made straight person fall" lines/narratives some manga has. Is it so hard to understand people can have a preference, but their sexuality still be fluid on a lower scale?

And I was right. Sakuma's friend, Ataru, is trouble. Fortunately, she has no room to set traps, but "Wanko-chan sure is amazing, though. She managed to make a straight girl like you fall madly in love with her. You have to wonder how many women she's been with." is still something very nasty to say.

I really dislike long time friends who are actually in love with one of the partners in a romantic relationship, so they try to cause havoc.

Stars: 4 Stars
Format: Print
Series: The Two of Them Are Pretty Much Like This Volume 2
Steam Level: Mild Steam

The steaminess is increased in this volume. You get nudity, though it is pretty much covered up, and they talk about sex.

Quick Thoughts:
- The printing of this is different from the first volume and this doesn’t have the little drawings on the inside cover (at least my copy is this way)
- Still loving the art in this series
- That whole cat chapter was fun and adorable
- So many new characters!
- I love that these two are just their goofy selves and that is partly why their relationship works
- OMG I laughed so much at the conversation with the neighbor at the train station chapter
- I’m really curious to see how all these new characters effect the story
- Just like in the first volume, the reason I took off a star is that some of the dialogue and what was happening can be hard to follow at times. I don’t know if that is because of the manga itself or the translation of the manga

Overall I am still really enjoying this series. These two are just so adorable together and I’m really curious about these new characters introduced here.

Ahh again so cute!

I really love how they complimented each other after sex. Not in a flirty way but genuinely. You don’t see that often, if at all.

Also that neighbor is so cool!! Totally supportive and a BL fan (and her husband doesn’t mind)! It’s so nice to see older women being Fujoshis, and not just teenagers! Especially married ones. ❣️

Plus, reading about all that voice acting, makes we wanna pick up my voice acting hobby again ^-^

ahh. I love how quiet and slow this is - the slice-of-life is done so well here, while also being an exploration of a regular relationship between two working adults that feels so real. as I get older, I definitely feel like I enjoy this kind of story more...it's so relatable!

May 2023. Slice of life Yuri manga about the day-to-day life of two girlfriends living together in Japanese. Charming and it’s nice to have them already be an established couple.
I’ve been behind on posting stuff I read and listen to, I read this a week or two ago! Borrowed from a manga-loving friend at the dog park.
