Atlanta
A biological weapon is released that devolves the infected into a murderous horde. The military calls troops to establish quarantine and prevent anyone from leaving, but the CDC has only one doctor researching an end to this plague. This was an amazing read, from start to finish!

A bio-weapon has been unleashed in Atlanta, and the results are zombies. Yeah, and did I mention that there is more than one kind of zombie? Most of the zombies are fast and like to chase you down not to eat you but turn you into a zombie like them. I guess they are hoping to grow their army of the undead.
Jason, an ex-military dude is living the good life on his farm with his wife and baby daughter when the outbreak happens. Jason is contacted by his former chief to go with him into the heart of Atlanta to rescue a scientist who may have the cure for the zombie virus. Their mission is top secret as they are not legally allowed to do an operation of this type.
The city has been quarantined from the outside world since the outbreak. Jason and his team will not have a problem getting in but getting out is an entirely different story as they will not be allowed to just walk out the gates.
Jason agrees to go on this mission to help his former chief but he has one condition and it involves his brother. Jason’s brother and his wife are trapped in the city. Jason will help find this scientist and get him out but they will have to rescue his brother and his wife or no deal.
When I first laid eyes on Atlanta I knew I had to read it for lots of different reasons. One is that it is about zombies and I love zombies. I can’t seem to get enough of zombies and post-apocalyptic stories. Two it reminded me of The Walking Dead my favorite TV series of all time. But after reading it, it also reminded me of Resident Evil: Apocalypse and Army of the Dead.
I love the new twist on the zombies. Atlanta is one of the best zombie books I have read in a long time. I am anxiously awaiting the next book in the series. There just has to be another book with that ending. I need more now, please.

A military operation off the books takes place in Atlanta. A terrorist bio-attack spreads a kind of virus that makes the victims aggressive, hostile, and difficult to neutralize.
The book captured my interest with the main topic being zombies. I have been interested in zombies since I started watching more horror movies, the zombie subgenre became a popular subject in my spare time. Thus, I discovered that reading zombie books could fill my reading time with my new favorite topic.
The interesting parts of the book:
- The type of zombie virus. It seems to be a spreading infection that took place as a terrorist attack in different cities. Atlanta is one place where the virus was unleashed on the citizens. The book raises many questions. What kind of virus is it, how does it spread? Will quarantine work etc. This is a dangerous quest for the main characters with many unclear factors.
- Types of zombies. Fast or slow, calculating and communicative or less intelligent. There are different types of zombies that make the quest more uncertain, more dangerous but also very interesting because a more original view of a zombie virus is given.
- The mission itself. Go to Atlanta to retrieve the doctor who has information, but it's a secret mission, so not many people can go, and there won't be much help. There's also a lot of military talk, meetings with officials, and some side characters, like civilians. This makes for an ever-moving storyline that doesn't get boring at all.
The ending came a bit abruptly, but did provide an opening for a sequel. With what we have learned so far, I think a second part could be very entertaining as well.
I recommend this book for fans of action-military thriller/zombie books.

This book sounded interesting so I thought that I would try this author and attempt to expand my reading horizons.
The story itself had an interesting start, with a retired member of the American Special Forces being contacted by his former commanding sergeant major (who he refers to as Chief throughout the book) to assist in an illegal operation (due to Posse Comitatus Act, and the Special Forces unit is not allowed to operate in the continental United States) to retrieve a scientist from an American city (Atlanta) that is currently quarantined after being exposed to a biological weapon.
The issues that I had with this book is that there were a few quick plot twists that weren't properly set up and as a result seemed to be rushed (ie: the Chief appears to be a traitor and switches sides to that of the zombies) and then switches sides back to the special forces in a matter of paragraphs.
With the strange plot twist, I found some of the story to be a little weak and as such was not a superfan of this novel, therefore I would only give the story a possible 2.75 stars out of five.
As with all reviews, this is only my five cents worth.

This is a cross between World War Z, Escape from New York (in this case Atlanta), and the Battle of Fallujah. This was a well put together story with a fast moving pace. I especially liked the hive mind aspect of the infected. The author inserted a dose of virtue with the character Jason, which isn't the norm for zombie type stories. These type of stories typically deal with indiscriminate killing of the infected, but Jason had a sense of morality until he realized what the team was up against. I also felt that it was plausible that the government would abandon the three man team behind the line once they completed their original objective of extracting the scientist. A great action read, with an ending that left it open for follow up stories of our three man team outside the infected zone. I'm looking forward to the next one!

This is a new take on the zombie apocalypse - a terrorist attack has spread a fungal spore that turns people into zombies. Not your dead shamblers - these look like your regular neighbors until they turn then they become screaming maniacs. Or maybe you'll be lucky and get a controlling"quarterback". You see these zombies have a hierarchy - there is the queen, quarterbacks who run things out in the field, screamers, and shamblers. All-cause chaos and mayhem. At least they don't eat people, just drag you off to infect you to spread the fungus. If Jason doesn't find the queen and stop her the city will be nuked and he will not get home. The stakes are high and the risks higher - what will the military do to keep everything under cover. I can't wait for the second book to see what happens to our team.

January 4, 2022"Atlanta" grabs you from the first page and doesn't let go. The storyline is well-crafted and well-paced, and the action sequences in particular stand out. Sleadd's personal expertise with the military is on display here, and it's impressive. The chapters guiding us through the commanders' machinations behind the scenes are reminiscent of James Rollins, in a good way. There are even some timely geopolitical undercurrents, which are handled subtly and delicately rather than being thrust at the reader. This is a standout of a debut novel, and while there are some rough edges as is typical of such, I have high hopes for Sleadd's future work and I expect he won't disappoint.

The initial concept started out pretty decently. But the often overused storyline fell into place,( a virus outbreak where the only survivor with a possible cure is in the middle of a city infested with zombies). Where the military would listen to a bunch of lawyers about how to handle the situation, don't think so. Where only a two-man team without any support at all is supposed to go in and save the day. A lot of zombie questions were left unanswered, the medical information provided left a lot to be desired. The last part of the book stole a few scenes from the movie "The Crazies" or most post apoco genre books. The suspense and cliffhanger ending was pretty predictable and not very entertaining.

I received this book in exchange for an honest review.
Over all the book was a fun read and fast passed. The topics of the book such as military missions and zombies do adds lot of action. It could be almost impossible to get bored while reading this.
Besides all that the book wasn’t really my cup of tea. Don’t take me wrong it’s not a bid book it’s just not much my style. The characters seemed more flat than I’d like. The all male military trope is not something I enjoy and I would’ve liked to see more interaction with normal people.
Even so the plot takes a lot of twists and turns. There’s a lot of action and it’s a fast read. As it usually is with action there are a few graphic scenes and gun violence. So consider yourself warned.

Atlanta is a refreshing and innovative take on the zombie apocalypse. It is an exciting, action-packed story that grips you in the very beginning and never lets go. These are not your average zombies and not your average heroes. The main characters use their military backgrounds to approach this apocalyptic problem with practicality and style. This is a very enjoyable read and I cannot wait for the next book in the series. 10/10 Recommended. I really enjoyed the book. You find out the main characters strengths and personalities as you read. One reminds me of myself as he handles pressure with jokes and sarcasm.
It keeps you intrigued and and wanting to read more without a break. There really is no good spot to stop in it to take a break.
I'm hoping the way it ended hints at a second book soon to come. I definitely will be watching for one.
A must read for anyone who questions how far a government will go when it comes to their own citizens.

I really enjoyed this to be fair. It was a solid outing. The plot was well developed and the characters were strong; but the action scenes are the main selling point for this in my opinion; Nicely detailed and slick. Could have moved a little faster at the beginning for my taste, but by 7 or 8 chapters in, I was pretty much hooked. Definitely read this if you like action with military and some sci fi adventure, told with a strong voice. Excellent.

This book has action, zombies, snarky one liners and some interesting survival tips. I enjoyed this book immensely. It was a quick paced pager turner with nonstop action. Matthew Sleadd is now one of my go to authors for the Post-Apocalyptic genre. I can’t wait for the next installment in this series.

The Zombie Apocalypse Will Start Like This
Atlanta is a fascinating read, an exciting and satisfying beginning to a series about surviving the breakdown of society in an epidemic. The POV of the characters are what makes it special: three current and former members of the military go on a risky and dangerously uninformed mission. A uniquely realistic military action novel, it has elements of a dystopian political thriller.
Though completely unrelated and fictional, comparisons to our own pandemic are unavoidable, making the story deeply disturbing. Even more unnerving, the plot exposes a sinister underbelly to a fictional US government that has sent them on what appears to be a suicide mission. If you're ambivalent about the roots of conspiracy theories prevalent today, this book won't reassure you.
Jason Hartman was given an ample backstory, but the development of the peripheral characters is naturally restrained by their need to respond to constant action with their military training. Their personalities and histories peek through within bursts of dialogue. The author has expert insight into the inner workings of these men. As their survival chances grew increasingly grim, I became anxious to see each of them get through their mission alive.
The theme of Atlanta has motifs in common with other zombie apocalypse fiction, but Matthew Sleadd has expertly given us a cohesive, believable, and original book. This story, despite the setting in Atlanta, is not The Walking Dead. No spoilers, but I want to know what happens next!

It has been a while since I had the honour of reading a good zombie story. It is action packed which is all you need to have a great story.
