I write post apocalyptic science fiction both on my own account and with Mike Kraus, as well as space opera and fantasy. And one or two other bits and bobs.
Based in the south of England, I've been writing since my teens, alternating between funny and serious. In the mid 1990s, I became a regular columnist for PC Pro magazine and have written a number of business and craft books over the years.
Fiction is my first love, however - I hope you enjoy my voyages into an uncertain future.
The whole series is a good read. However I do have one critique. While the story takes play place in the USA there are a few things that make you realize it wasn't written by someone totally familiar with the culture. In as much as it doesn't effect the stories, it did put a sudden interruption to smooth reading. One example was the frequent reference to 16 wheelers. While common in Europe and India they're almost unheard of in the USA. 18 wheelers would be the better choice. All in all, still a good read.
There are many post apocalyptic stories waiting to be read. This is one of the best, blending the violence with hope and heroic actions. I loved Yuri and his misquotes most of all but then every character stands out, whether good or evil. Humanity is very clearly defined, with even a dose of racism to emphasise hurdles heroes must leap, and destroy. The ending surpasses all my expectations.
Pros - interesting premise, decent character development Cons - glaring contraindications throughout the book (ie: first the boat takes diesel then gasoline, or the rocket explodes over FL but then effects Chicago) also it was apparent that whomever wrote this doesn't realize that shipping trucks are 18 wheels in the US and as mentioned in my title, a miraculous save every three chapters is monotonous.
This is not a wild ride but it is a scary one, and I wish everyone had a chance to understand how close to the edge we ride when we do gene splicing and work with nano robots even as primitive as we are now. As with so many great science fiction stories the moral can take some thinking.
Complex, interesting characterization, powerful sensory description, multilayered tense plot! Multiply viewpoint narration is brilliant But editing is sketchy: spelling, grammar, some awkward or incorrect wording, repetition a little too frequent. It is jolting and interruptive. And there is NO such word as “aiten’t”!!
The logical series of trials faced in Six books showing human tenacity keeps the reader enthralled with the story line and characters. I only hope there is a second generation of plot to read exposing the strengths and weaknesses of the next generation of "armeggedon" survivors. A great read egging you on for more.
A good read, but just a tad far fetched… do a Google search on how much the worlds seas would rise should the ice covering the Earth melt; a 1000’ is a bit of a stretch but certainly adds to the seriousness of the story. What I find truly fascinating is nanotechnology and their applications - incredible and scary at the same time.
The series that kept you guessing how it would end.
I chose this rating because I have never read a book this long. It kept me guessing who would live and how we would succeed as a nation. It showed the perseverance of the American Spirit.
I chose this rating because enjoyed story line. Love to hear Americans coming together for just causes. Super good story. I will definitely recommend to Family and friends.
Loved the story, the characters, and the flow! Can't say enough about this book, the story, or the author... Books are Great when you don't want to go to bed, because you are so immersed in the Story Keep on, keeping on!
Trying to fix global warming, scientists release nanobots to cool the earth. Instead the nanobots cause the polar ice caps to melt. As the scientists try to reverse the mistake, the Chinese launch an invasion of the US.
Fighting to survive change of seasons which brings tragedy to the entire world we witness ordinary people step up to battle nature, corruption of governments with individuals doing flip pools for good and evil. This would make an epic movie. 😁
Excellent series! I read all from getting separately but, highly recommend the box set for convenience and economy! Kevin Partner is one of my favorite authors. Everything I’ve read of his work is great entertainment.
This series of books were amazing. Edge of your seat thrilling. I couldn’t put it down. I would recommend this book to anyone that likes apocalyptic stories. I gave it five stars. I don’t often do that but this series deserves it.
Fantastic storyline. I was intrigued from the first paragraph. Very well written with interesting characters and individual stories. Looking forward to reading more from this author.
A rollercoaster of action, tears, and lost friends. Kraus and Partner make a great team, and can write a wild and crazy action plot. Loved all the gritty characters.
Have read this 6 book series over a period of about ten daus(read a couple of others for relief) . It is intense and keeps you in suspense, really enjoyed it.
Lots of twists , turns and action. Great characters built with growth and emotion. Well written post apocalypse. Partner and Kraus managed to build a world.
No action to keep my attention. This series should have taken me a week but it took me three to get thru it . I did like the idea of a flood, that was a new concept.
