Tyson is ready to settle down. Has been for as long as he can remember.
But bringing someone close is a risk he’s not willing to take.
When he crosses paths with a familiar face, Tyson knows he should steer clear of the stunning nurse he’s never forgotten. Let her go on with her life, safely away from Alaskan Security and the never-ending string of men willing to do anything to take it down.
But Naomi Bloom is everything he’s ever wanted. She’s smart. Successful. Driven.
The single-mom checks all his boxes… even before he meets her adorable comedian of a five-year-old son.
Keeping her away should be his biggest goal, but it’s easier said than done.
Especially when everything inside him begs to pull her close.
****
Like everyone else, Naomi came to Alaska for a fresh start.
A place where she could raise her son and give him the life she never had.
As close as she can get anyway.
Her job as a nurse provides them with everything they need financially, but it still doesn’t fill the void in their little family. What’s left of it.
When Tyson Muller lands himself under her care it seems like maybe nursing will bring her everything she’s been hoping for after all.
But having what you want comes with a price.
One Naomi has no intention of paying twice.

This book started out with promise but did not deliver. It was too unbalanced. The slow burn, push and pull was more than 70% of this book and because they kept avoiding being together we didn’t really get much of a love story and their ending or HEA was very rushed.
Their meeting and initial interest happened in the last book, so we get very little in this book which made for an unsatisfying story.
The suspense was not well developed, this author’s not great at it, she just kind of hints for a while and then slaps us across the face with the conclusion instead of doing a slow build.
It does look like the author may have gotten a new editor as there were fewer grammatical issues and spelling errors than usual which was nice.
This is number 8 in the series and really must be read in series order or you will have no idea what is happening, lots of characters from previous books to keep track of and the ending was a cliff hanger to set up for the next book which only added to my lack of satisfaction with the story.
Also, why was he planning a party to prove to her that she had so many friends and support but then this party never happened? I felt like that was building to a catalyst moment but then the author bailed on it.
Ugh, this author gets so close sometimes, but she just can’t bring it home for me. I always feel bleh after reading one of hers.
I actually adjusted my rating up one star because I think I was too grumpy in my initial score, this book wasn’t bad, I liked both characters and saw the potential for a great story, it just didn’t have enough meat and I was frustrated. I wanted it to be better, I saw potential, it just didn’t make it there for me because of the length and/or slow burn. It needed one or two more chapters to complete the story and not rush for the ending. Also it was not steamy enough, but that’s a preference thing, one sex scene in the entire book and everything else was ftb - not my jam.

disappointed

First off, I love this series. And I have loved Tyson from the beginning and was so excited to have his story. Maybe that’s why I was so disappointed. He is arguably the best guy out of all of this series, and he deserved so much better! Naomi had zero personality and was a cold bitch for the first 60% of this book. It’s such a slow burn that it just wasn’t enough by the time they got their sh!t worked out. Maybe if the book had been longer and the end more fully developed between them, I wouldn’t be as disappointed. Bottom line: Tyson deserved better than this.

Tyson and Naomi, and Emmett

This single mother story was easy to read and connect with, and I really appreciated how Tyson fit into their lives. Definitely a great found family aspect.

While most of this book’s storyline was focused on Tyson, Emmett, and Naomi (and danger specifically her own), there is lingering questions about how information is still not moving easily.
Tyson identifying the best way to care for their well-being was sweet, and I loved Beverly and Snax.

Intel is also experiencing a baby boom, and the next part of the storyline will be quite engaging. I cannot imagine Heidi will be away from her work for long.

This series has a lot going on, and I really appreciated all the intrigue and danger interwoven in these couple's journey to their HEA. I am seriously addicted to this world and the engaging characters.

Jamison (book 9) is next! ;)

oh my gosh.

This book was SO GOOD! It was fast paced and interesting, intense and sexy. I loved how badly Tyson wanted a love like his parents, and adorable Emmett, and fierce Naomi. And Beverly. Gah. I just loved everything about this story!

I was hooked on this series in the beginning. Maybe I'm expecting something different when I start to read but the last two books just haven't hit like the first ones did. Imma keep reading them though!

Another disappointment.

Tyson was great in other books. Here, where he should shine, he doesn't. He becomes quiet, introverted, and basically boring as he pursues this super guarded woman.

Naomi is a dud of a female character. I totally get and sympathize with her backstory, but we don't get that until super late in the story. Other than knowing her husband died while on duty, we know virtually nothing about her. The author doesn't draw her clearly, and we have almost no understanding of her motivations. That makes her just seem uninterested in Tyson, and he is a chump for hanging on. I don't really consider it a "romance" when a character doesn't get interested in someone unless they are "saving" her from danger. Where's the romantic connection? It mostly seems like gratitude, and that's not the basis of love.

The plot is all over the place as it moves at a glacial speed. The whole super slow burn doesn't work here. It just drags a boring story out. Even the young child doesn't add any spark here. Again, he's a character that includes vague hints of personality and possibly some disabilities, but it's so muddy and unclear that who knows. He's like a complication to the story but has no real place in it.

The sex is almost non-existent. It's only once, late in the story, and the weird "who is gonna share what they want" first thing makes it super frustrating and not at all sexy. She wants him to be assertive, and he wants her to "show" him what she needs. Had it been me, I would have kept walking. It was just another example of the lack of cohesion between these two characters. Also, that was the end of any sex.

Also, the Jack character and his behavior did not stand up. We're expected to believe that an alcoholic, openly disturbed dude with no money or transportation somehow arranged to steal his equally downtrodden brother's identity and arranged some fairly complex events? This ended in him arriving at a public event and confronting her at the exact moment she stepped outside because he happened to find a lost article of her son's in the parking lot? What? And for TWO YEARS, she didn't think it was odd that he called her numerous times per day until she answered, only to berate her every time? That's not weird? Right.

Lastly, the whole "mystery" behind a regular nurse with a child becoming the victim of a home sabotage as well as attempted kidnapping makes no sense at all. It seems to be another thread that is supposed to wind through upcoming books, yet has no basis at all in anything happening in this series. It's so random and nonsensical that it leaves the reader frustrated.

Look, I don't expect every tiny thing to be ticked and tied, but I do feel the big stuff should make sense. This series started off really strong, but each subsequent book gets more removed from that. Characters that don't have chemistry, plot points that are senseless, slow slow slow burns that don't result in a satisfying ending all point to a not-so-good story. I think I'm done with this series.

As seen on my blog (Jessie's Reading Corner):
Dangerous Proximity is the eighth book in Jemma Westbrook’s Alaskan Security – Team Rogue series and, once again, Jemma has wowed me with her storytelling.

Tyson and Naomi are probably two of my favorite characters in the Alaskan Security world. Tyson is a man that is ready to settle down. He wants a family and a love like the one his parents had. He thinks he’s found it with Naomi, one of the nurses that checked up on him while he was in the hospital. Except Naomi’s been keeping her distance from him since he got out of the hospital.

Naomi is a single mom to a five year old boy. When she’s not working at the hospital, she’s doing the best that she can to make sure Emmett (her son) is taken care of. As far as she’s concerned, love has no business in her life. Will Tyson be able to change her mind? Read the story to find out 😉

I thought this was a phenomenal story. I loved watching Tyson and Naomi fall in love with each other. I loved watching Tyson interact with Emmett. I loved how the girl gang, especially Mona, Eva and Heidi, took Naomi and Emmett under their wings. I loved the scenes we got with Jamison, especially since he’s the next Security team member to be bitten by the love bug (pre-order is up for his book, Defensive Alliance.) I loved reuniting with the Alaskan Security team, seeing what they’ve been up to, and going along in their adventures.

I’m really excited for Jamison’s story next. The groundwork for his story is laid out towards the end of this one, and I am interested in seeing where Jemma takes it. I also got the sense of another possible couple, down the road, and it will be interesting to see if I’m right or not.

Definitely read this story if you love steamy romantic suspense, men in uniform and reading books with single moms as the heroines. While this is the eighth book in the series, you do not need to read the series from the beginning. I still would recommend you do so, before or after you read this book, because I just love this series, these characters, and the adventures I get to go while reading these books.

I’d recommend you keep tissues on hand when you read this as some heavy topics are dealt with in this story!

The Alaskan Security series by Jemma Westbrook is definitely one of my favorite binge reads, and Dangerous Proximity is another fantastic book in an already amazing set. Tyson and Naomi are beautifully developed characters who will quickly work their way into your heart. Their vulnerabilities and strengths are conveyed well through both their inner thoughts and their interactions with the other characters in the story. The banter between Naomi and Tyson, as well as between them and the other characters throughout the book will make you smile, and the steam between Tyson and Naomi will leave you reaching for a very cold drink.

Westbrook has built an immersive world of supporting characters throughout these novels, and the Girl Gang is in full effect as they help Naomi navigate her life and relationship with Tyson. Strong elements of found family, as well as love, loss, and heartbreak, pull the reader into the characters’ emotional struggles. And Emmett and Snax are so heartwarming and wonderful, they balance the heavier elements of the novel perfectly.

The suspense in this novel creeps up on you, planting little seeds of doubt as to who the baddy is, and yeah, there is definitely a little twist in there. And just when you think you know what’s going on, Westbrook throws another twist that will have you reaching for the next novel in the series immediately. If the next one’s not out yet, perfect opportunity to re-bingeread the entire series. These books get better and better every time I read them.

Jemma Westbrook aka Josie Watts aka Janice Whiteaker... no matter how you read her, you will not be disappointed. Now let me start this review by saying, this is not a series that you can jump into the middle without starting at the beginning. As my friends like to say... you canNOT "machete" this series. You need to start with book one and read the whole way through because there is a storyline that travels though the books. But each book is a delightful HEA.

This book follows Tyson and Naomi. They first meet when Tyson is hurt on a job and is in the hospital for a while where Naomi is a nurse. They flirt and Tyson feels the connection, but Naomi has been hurt before and terrified to put herself out there again. This is a SLLLLOOOOOOWWWW burn, but it makes sense as you read because of the way in which Tyson has to prove to Naomi that he is there for her and Emmett (her son) and isn't going anywhere.

Danger follows these men and their ladies, so ever the protector, the Alaskan Security men take charge of their safety. Naomi blends well with the women of Intel, and I love the way the enfold her and Emmett into the mix. These two are perfect together, but not without faults. This series is just wonderful (although Pierce and Mona will always hold top tier of this group).

Type of Series: Overarching storyline of Standalone HEAS

Is live worth the risk

Tyson is a family guy, he's wanted to settle down since forever. Naomi is his nurse when he's injured on the job and sparks fly. Once he's discharged he asks her out but she shuts him down cold. He respects her request and backs off. When her friend tries to set them up, the night takes a dangerous turn. Tyson calls in the team once appears Naomi is a target. Tyson is afraid he's the reason and starts to wonder if he's meant to be alone. Naomi is afraid to rely on anyone because it can lead to heartbreak but she trusts Tyson to keep her (and the person most precious to her) safe. Her past and his mean the team has its hands full staying one step ahead of the threats. Full throttle action and steamy love scenes. The men of Alaskan Security keep dropping like flies and their enemies more bold in their attacks. Best of all the women of Intel step in claiming Naomi as one of them.

Nurse Naomi Bloom moved to Alaska with her 5-year old son, Emmett, for a fresh start. It’d been two years but no matter where she went everyone knew her husband died and treated her just a little too carefully. Trying to regain her old normal, Naomi gave her gun-shot patient Tyson Muller a little bit more of her than he was used to and he liked it.

Though Naomi had refused his offer for date, when Tyson was discharged from the hospital, he tried again and got a sharper refusal. Her friend tried to get them together, more refusal. Almost back-to-back, Naomi had two emergencies and Tyson was there to lend help though he wonders if he brought trouble to her door… luckily Tyson brought a whole team.

This outing seemed heavier on romance but lighter on the action though the females had roles and easily embraced Naomi and Emmett. It was almost a Hallmark movie but that’s not necessarily a bad thing.

Naomi is definitely a strong woman that has had a very hard past. Her only priority is her son Emmett. Nothing else matters. Definitely not a relationship with her very attractive former patient, Tyson.
I love Tyson. Even though he was bummed, I love that he respected Naomi's decision not to date. However, when he feels that she is in danger because of him and his job at Alaskan Security he made sure she was safe. Protected. But not by him. The utmost gentleman–obeying her wishes.
Forced proximity moves things in the right direction and before you know it, she's changing her mind. It's hard to keep feelings at bay when he treats her son, Emmett, like his own. He's amazing.
Speaking of Emmett, you're going to fall in love with him and his snacks.
Dangerous Proximity was another 5 star read from Janice Whiteaker, written as Jemma Westbrook.

This is my last book in the series (I started with Book 9 and then went back to read 1-8).
This is the sweetest love story and the least drama/suspense out of the series.

Tyson is such a wonderful guy with such a sweet, soft heart. His connection with Emmett is adorable and totally understandable. Naomi needs time to convince herself it's OK to take the risk of love again. Tyson is respectful and patient as she works through her own feelings.

Some light suspense results in Naomi and Emmett living at Alaskan Security, where they find the large family they want and need. Tyson's mom is an adorable part of the story.

And babies are finally being born!

I'm sorry this series is over, but I'm also just a little emotionally wrung out from the roller-coaster of all 9 books! Time for something lighter!

Tyson & Naomi are giving Shawn & Heidi a run for their money as my favorite couple! I loved this book. The addition of Emmett, Snax and mama Beverly is perfection.

Tyson just wants to find love and have a family. He thinks Naomi would be the perfect person to start a relationship with, but she is dealing with some stuff and has no interest in dating. She finds herself in danger and she and Tyson become closer. Their journey is slow burn perfection. Part of the danger is resolved, but we’re left with unanswered questions.

I cannot wait to find out what’s going on in Jamison’s book!

Good book

I enjoyed this book. It was a little slow in the beginning while Tyson gets rebuffed by Naomi each time he tries to make a move on her. But then it picks up about 20% in and didn’t slow down. Mishaps happen to where Tyson ends up bringing her and her son to headquarters. There, she meets some of the gang and starts striking friendships with them. Her son Emmitt is adorable including his obsession with getting a dog. The action was interesting. I would recommend this book.

'Love should be easy and effortless...'

Ha! How wrong Tyson is!
Love is.......everything!
Easy and hard, effortless and difficult, rewarding and challenging, hopeful and devastating, happy and sad, but most of all it is worth it, as Tyson finds out. And it may take a little while, but eventually Naomi remembers too.
I love this series and this book was just as good as previous ones, I read this on Kindle Unlimited.

incredible book

Wow I just finished and I’m crying tears of happiness for this couple. Janice went up and beyond anything she has done before with this story. It’s so full of goodness with a nice slow burn that keeps you hooked you can’t put down.
Laughed a lot while reading and could relate to our heroine starting her life over again from scratch but I think my favorite part is when her son Emmett asks “do you have a dog” that totally hooked me. Best book!,,!!!!!!

Strong Women Rock!

I'm reasonably certain that I have read every book that JW has written, and I absolutely love the Alaskan Security series. Reading these exciting and romantic tales is always fun, and a bit tense, but the characters draw you in, the dialog is snappy, and gosh dog it, there is something happening every minute! Naomi is a heroine that I truly admire, and seeing the way Tyson connects with her was satisfying. Time for a snack....

Have you got a dog?

No matter how much you’re reading this for the badasses of Alaskan Security you’ll fall in love with 5 year old Emmett, he’s a laugh a minute and a ‘real’ kid. Tyson is the next member of the team to find his HEA in Naomi who has arrived in Alaska with plenty of baggage. It’s great to see her personality unfold as the story progresses. A great read, just hurry up with Jameson’s story please Jemma Westbrook.

Tyson dreams of having a family watching his friends and team mates get their women sparks his dream even more.
In hospital recovering from gun shot sound he meets Naomi the ladybird could fit tightening those dreams. Living each of the books in this series and the HEA that follows keeping therefore going throughout for all the characters as you are immersed in their lives from book 1 now moving into no 9
Well worth the sleepless nights

Letting walls down

Naomi and Tyson take their time to get the HEA they both deserve. Tyson wanted Naomi from the moment she walked into his hospital room, but Naomi wasn't open to finding love again. Tyson took her refusal with grace, but situations beyond their control kept forcing the two of them together, allowing Naomi to stop ignoring her feelings. The plot continues to thicken, the banter is on point, and the spice is just right. Enjoy!

I loved how open Tyson was about what he wanted out of life - love, marriage, a family. It was a nice change to see the male MC so openly longing for those things. Naomi was interesting and the reader's heart broke for her situation. Emmett was adorable and a great character. I enjoyed this book and will continue the series.

Dangerous Proximity

Naomi moved to Alaska for a fresh start for her and her son. Tyson met her in the hospital while visiting a friend, then again as the patient. He asked her out and she turned him down flat. Although Tyson was very interested he'd honor her wishes.
Will Tyson be around when trouble comes her way? Will she accept help?
Loved this story!

I think this is my fav of the series so far. I think I say that about every couple in this series but Tyson and Naomi are just special. Tyson has watched as a lot of his teammates has found their women and are now starting families. He wants this so bad. While he is recuperating after being shot he is drawn to his all business nurse Naomi. He has to work to get smiles and he hopes she’s the one. But she’s not looking period. Men are off limit for her as she goes about building a life in Alaska for her and her son. Tyson reluctantly backs off as Naomi wants and danger shows up. He now works to keep her and her son safe and find who is out to harm her. This book has action, suspense, steam, laugh out loud moments, a 5 year old obsessed with dogs, a mother/hope to be grandmother soon, the Alaskan Security team and love.
