After the shocking deceit of the false guardian, the Restless Mountain hideout has been exposed and the Lost King has forcefully claimed Norden Castle. Danger comes, not only to Cassarah but to the mercenaries that stand with her. Forced to make sudden and unexpected decisions to save them all, Cassarah does the unthinkable...taking them back to Sheca.
Sheca - The land forgotten by generations. The land the mercenaries originated from. The land that does not accept strangers. With no other choice, Cassarah is forced to fly to Sheca, to request their help. She quickly discovers far more than she bargained for. Hidden away in their history is the key to winning the battle with the Lost King.
With the strength of her guardians, and Vasin at her back, the wheels of change will be set into motion to reveal surprises and truths that no one saw coming.
Will she be able to gather the trust of her leadership and those depending on her while trying to solve the mystery from the past fast enough? Will she be able to save her people from the danger right in front of them? Can Cassarah rise and become the Dragon Queen the prophecy foretold and promised them?
In a true test of fortitude and strength, Cassarah discovers what it really means to be Queen while she also finds out that sometimes second chances aren’t always possible.
Only time will tell. Time they are quickly running out of.
This is a why choose romance where the leading lady doesn't have to choose who she loves or how many.
I am not going to say much about this addition to the Mercenary Queen series, due to loving the other two books so much.
Simply put, this lacked. I felt no connection to the characters. I did not expect there to be so many consorts (mates). There are so so so many it was impossible for me to feel a deep connection to any of the romance or relationships. I completely lost me drive for the series. Disappointing.
If you are a new reader to this series, you really do need to read these books in chronological order. This story does pick up after the events in the prior book. Additionally, you will have established a relationship with the characters by reading the prior books.
I liked this book but did feel that it moved really slowly. There was not a lot happening. It felt like more dialect driven. Regarding Cass, she is good, and I like her, but I felt like she was a bit timid. For someone who had gone through what she has, I would have expected her to have a stronger presence.
To be honest, other than Vasin, I don't really have a favorite or favorites among the men. For those who like fantasy and want to try a reverse harem story, this is a series you might try as the steam level is mild.
Wowzer! Not much I can say at this moment...I'm still reeling my emotions In check right now. This is a slow burn, however it is soooo worth the burn. The development through this series is unique...very enjoyable. This ends in a cliff hanger...I don't feel it's a spoiler more warning because of you have read this series so far...you are going to continue no to the end! Throughly enjoyed. I'm able to review before release from the grace of the author and being part of her amazing ARC team. Cheers to all you Unicorns out there! Binging this whole thing before the finale!!!
“The author slayed it! What an epic addition to this series. Talking abut unforgettable rides and this one! This is huge because I’m a fast burn romance lover and this one was is the complete opposite but for Cass and her guys the slow burn is worth it. The plot continues to amaze me, everything time I think I figure out what’s gonna happen a new twist occurs and I’m left guessing again. Cass continue to improve as a FMC that’s amazing. Her guys are UNIQUE!!! It’s insane how much I love them”
Elizabeth Knight does it again. She brings you another amazing book in this series. Cass is back with her men and they are now going to the forgotten land. To the land were the castle has been closed for hundreds of years. You would think that since she has par bonded to the black dragon that she would not have a lot of opposition but it seems that she is. Who can she trust besides her guard? She is constantly busy but she never loses herself. She definitely over comes hardships and makes some hard decisions as well. As you read this story, you can't help but get sucked into it. I love how her men back her and learn that they need to work together. She learns a great deal when they go to the forgotten land. As things unfold some questions are answered and then more questions are asked. I will say that when I got to the end, I was like no no no no. It just did not end with a major cliffhanger! Yeah, I did not see that coming. Now I have to wait for the next book!! THIS WILL DRIVE ME INSANE!!
YES! WHOOP WHOOP! GO CAS!! Gosh, the FMC Cas kicks butt and took names in this book! You pick up right after the ending of book 2, and Cas needs to take care of the betrayals and get her people to safety. She decides they need to return to their origins. Cas has to deal with betrayals, a coup, rebuilding a kingdom, break a curse, and prepare for a war. She was so busy in this book, but you can read her growth! Her self-esteem, her maturity, her confidence, her sass and intelligence, and so much more. It was really inspiring. I also enjoyed how she is starting to open up more, especially when it comes to her guys and intimacy. Yes, this book finally had some and it is now approaching a medium burn RH book.
I liked the part where Cas breaks the curse on the dragons, the adventure in the castle and what clues and answers it held, how some of her guardians received dragon bonds, and how Cas has decided or has an open mind to multiple consorts.
I really enjoyed this book and this series; I think next book will be the last one...? Which is kind of a bummer
Harem: Cole, Abbott, Dayson, Jade, Izel, Zan, Gavin and Paxton.
Sexiness: 3 out 5 - Cas only got really really intimate with Cole, but she is starting to show more affection to all of her guys.
I am hoping in the next book there can be more equality between Cas and her males when it comes to intimacy.
Spoilers and basically for me to remember:
The ending with the Lost King's psycho and crazy dragon, and the fights... This review is of my own opinion.
Another amazing story by Elizabeth Knight. This is book 3 in the Mercenary Queen series. Definitely needs to be read in order. Otherwise you will be completely lost. Story has all the feels I love in a book. Storyline is fantastic and I just love these characters. No spoilers but does end on a cliffhanger. Definitely a must read. Be prepared to not being able to put story down. So so good!!!
Elizabeth Knight has done an exceptional job with The Forgotten Throne. The third book in the Mercenary Queen series was everything, had everything. From murderous kings to power grabs, upheaval, coronations, betrayals, plenty of steam, and dragons, don't forget the dragons.
Cassarah "Cass" is a freaking megamind. I realized she was a genius in the previous book but I didn't realize she was megamind material until this book. The way Cass thinks, how she put things together, can see all the angles and plans things, it's amazing. While Cass has trained and can fight like the rest of the mercenaries, it's really refreshing to see an mfc have her mind be her biggest asset. While Cass is a scholar, a bookworm, and has a thirst for knowledge she is also adapting to being queen very well. Cass as I said is intelligent but she also has an open mind and is willing to hear anyone of her people out, no matter their station. She also has a big heart and truly cares about everyone but isn't afraid to stand up to people and do what needs to be done. Cass is already a good queen and she's on her way to being great.
So, I'm not into slow-burn romances, nope I like it hot. It doesn't have to be fast but... Liz killed me with this series. Cass formed deep connections with these guys and two of them have been around from the beginning but Cass was moving slowly in that department, that is until now. Liz has finally turned up the steam and boy was it hot. Now that that part is out of the way, the guys are great and even more devoted to Cass after the events in this book. The guys are loyal to Cass, they care about her and respect her. They are not only forming a solid relationship with Cass but finally bonding with each other. There may be a few bumps on the way but it is clear their common goal is to protect the woman they have all come to care about. I can't say I have any favorites, they are all pretty great but I will say that Paxton, Jade, and Cole are a handful all on their own but have good hearts.
The plot took me by surprise. So the Lost King has been the focus, he's the major baddie that's determined to rule everyone and has been Cass's major opponent. However, to my surprise the story isn't focused on him, it's on the threats within. The clans are on the move to Sheca the lost kingdom, where the mercenaries are originally from but as usual the clan leaders are whining, King Edward and Queen Mary are having difficulties adjusting now that they are hiding out, and let's just say some of the Sheca's people aren't happy about Cass's arrival. Cass is fighting people on all sides and it looks like her own people are the ones causing problems, thinking she isn't qualified. But Cass handles things like a boss, she logically talked to people, points out things they have missed but the truth is when some people have power they don't wanna let it go.
The Forgotten Throne is a great addition to this fantastic series, Cassarah is one of my favorite characters. The plot sucked me in, this book was intense, with not a boring moment in sight. I really loved getting to learn more about the mercenaries as a people, their traditions, and history. A lot of things were revealed in this book, including very useful information about the dragons and past kings. Things with Cassarah are never boring and that ending was most definitely not boring. Liz left us on a cliff, tormenting me until I can find out what's gonna happen next but the wait is worth it.
"Embrace the humbleness and tender heart that others will scorn you for..."
Elizabeth Knight has had me enthralled with this series since the very beginning. She continues to amaze me with a storyline that never seems to drag on and pulls me in the minute I start reading. Although this book has been a slow burn for the majority of the series, it has been well worth it. I enjoyed the focus being on the actual story and how the relationships between everyone formed naturally. Steam wasn't a filler with this one. Things finally pick up near the end of this book as Cass opens up and accepts the growing feelings she has towards the guys. Now that she pushed past the fear of the possible pain of losing them if she allows herself to feel, I think the next book is going to be a bit more intense relationship wise.
Cassarah has got to be one of my favorite characters. She's a queen that leads with both physical and mental strength, trying to be a good example for her people. She's selfless, putting others before herself and even gives multiple chances to see if people will have a change of heart. Sometimes being too compassionate is her downfall, and she ends up making the harder decisions as a last resort when greed and power becomes the focus of those around her. 'Tis the life of a queen.
The threats to Cassarah and her reign has increased since the first book and I never know where the threats are going to come from. There has been the more obvious Lost King always in the background and coming to the forefront every now and then when he decides to make an appearance, but what is concerning is that there have been so many unknown adversaries within Cass' group of supposed allies and protectors. Those around you are the ones that can hurt you the most and make it hard to trust. How much can a girl take before she starts to question the motives of everyone around her?
These characters have been through so much since the beginning of the series, so I can't wait to see Cass and her group overcome every obstacle thrown at them in the next book. People underestimate what they don't understand, and Cass has been made to prove herself constantly throughout this series. The Lost King may think he has everything under his control, but I'm thinking he'll be surprised how much damage can be done with people who follow willingly instead of by force.
This book wasnt as action-packed as the last couple, but I enjoyed that because it gave everyone a second to breathe and get to know one another. The slow burn of this series is nice and very different from other books of this genre. I mean, shes still a virgin at the beginning of this and its book 3?! I dont think I've ever read a slow-burn reverse harlem series and it's awesome.
I've enjoyed this series so much there is a 95% chance I will reread the whole series before reading the next, and final, book (it just depends if I time it correctly). I find that I churned through the individual books quickly, with so many books between each one, and some of the characters and how they are related to each other has gotten a little befuddled. I like the world Ms. Knight has built and Cassarah (and her men) too much to not fully immerse myself in it before I read the conclusion to their story; so the reread feels necessary for me. I only do this with my most favorite of series, so that's saying something.
It's hard to say much about this book without giving away spoilers, so I won't get into more details than my love for it overall because it was nice to settle in and get to feel the relationships being built without the non-stop terror and drama. There was danger, to be sure, but it didn't feel as life or death as Ms. Knight tends to get with her books (she really likes to make us stress about the well-being of her characters, is all I'm sayin).
There is the world's worst cliff hanger at the end of this book - I feel like I'm allowed to say that without calling it a spoiler. It's not a spoiler but a warning if you hate that sort of thing that you should probably hold off until later this year when the last book releases and binge-read both back-to-back to save yourself the strife. I dont hate a cliffhanger as long as you arent George RR Martin with a big ol question mark where it says 'next book release date.' Ms. Knight is consistent with her releases and I know she wont leave me in suspense for long, so I welcome the agony she dispenses freely.
Another series I hadn't started until being provided an ARC to read. I could not put this series down, finished all three books in one day and I can't even say I'm upset about it.
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
Cass is probably one of my favorite FMC that I've read this year. She's got the whole package, she's strong in her standings with her men. She doesn't allow people to talk down to her or put her in a position that she is uncomfortable with and when those things happen to her she takes whatever thumps occur with grace.
I really enjoyed getting to know each and every one of her consorts throughout the series but this book is where they all truly shine. It's when things finally heat up, the series is definitely portrayed as slow burn and that's completely the case because it takes to this book for the spice to occur. And let me tell you something, the spice is definitely nice.
Cass is finally figuring out her place in the world, she's holding her own with men who think they know best for her. She's filling the spaces around her with people who support her fully and don't look down on her for her upbringing. This book is action-packed, filled to the brim with plot and storyline.
I will tell you that this book ends in a cliffhanger and not your run of the mill, I think I'll survive until next time one. But one of those ones that pulls at your heartstrings and leaves you wondering if you can really wait the next 5 months for the next book.
Do yourself a favor and pick this series up if you haven't. It's 100% worth it.
HOLY DRAGON! The Forgotten Throne was absolutely EPIC! One of the best books I have ever read! I was completely and utterly consumed from beginning to end!
Elizabeth Knight completely ramped up this story ten fold! So many twists, turns and revelations you’ll never see coming, action that will have you hyped up and sitting at the edge of your seat, and love and passion that will make you swoon.
You see so much growth with Cassarah throughout this book that it’s truly a sight to see. Her coming into her own, fighting for her people and what is right, opening up her heart to those she loves and trusts. On top of that we get to see so much more connection and chemistry develop between Cassarah and her consorts. I loved seeing each relationship grow and deepen in their own ways as they all fought alongside Cass.
The mythology and lore that Elizabeth Knight created only enhanced this story! Adding so much depth, mystery and intrigue. I truly felt like I was whisked off to Sheca along with Cass. Everything was so detailed and descriptive that I saw everything playing out in front of me as I read. So much to discover and unfold as the story progresses that you can’t help but be completely captivated!
Trust me when I say you absolutely want to read this book!
Cass and her men are fighting to have the life they've been planning. They just need to make it past all of the lies, secrets and betrayals that stand between it and them.
The amount of growth that Cass has had since she became a dragon queen has been stunning. She has truly come in to her own and made a name for herself as someone who is truly a formidable person. The relationships she's built with her men are growing and are getting a little steamy.
The plot wasn't what I expected it to be. We've been following the Lost King and focusing on taking him down, but he was more of a background character I'm this book. The threats of literally everything else took precedent and it wasn't a bad choice by the author. It was a different pacing for where a third book in a series should be, but it by no means hindered the book. It just threw in an additional surprise and twist the audience didn't expect.
I dislike slow burn romances greatly. I don't enjoy waiting two or three books before the characters finally give in to the tension they've been creating since book one. This author I can deal with a little better because they actually give a great story to focus on rather than the amount of tension the characters have with each other.
Wow! Just wow! This series just gets better and better with each book. The world that Elizabeth has created is nothing short of incredible. One thing I love about this series is that she takes the time to really develop the characters and describe the setting. In The Forgotten Throne we see Cassarah make the decision to move her mercenaries back to where it all began, Sheca. I absolutely loved seeing what Sheca was like and the people who were there. But like all things the move is not easy. It comes with betrayal from those close to her and those who are new. The discoveries she makes are nothing short of incredible and the dragons! Ooo I love me some dragons! While I normally like faster burn series, it was so worth the wait to see her finally seal the deal with some of her men and to see their relationships grow. I honestly love Cassarah as an FMC, she is brave, smart, and very human in the sense she can admit when she is wrong. The ending of this book left me on the edge of my seat! I cannot wait to see what happens in the next book! I highly recommend this series!
Elizabeth Knight is such an amazing author words cannot express how much I love her and the books she writes. Book 3 The Forgotten Throne is no exception and continues the story of Cass and the guys. I truly believe that if you are deciding on whether or not to read the third instalment then you should already know how incredible this series is and if you haven’t already started it I recommend you do it immediately, seriously you will only regret not reading it sooner.
The rollercoaster of emotions, amazing and enthralling plot, fantastic world building and of course incredible characters makes this book a must read.
The ending was of course emotional and heart stopping in true Elizabeth Knight fashion but it truly makes the series and ensures you stay riveted to every single page wanting to devour more and more.
If you haven’t read any of Elizabeth Knights books you need to immediately. She is phenomenal and one of the best authors I’ve ever come across.
So, in the previous book, I really struggled to keep the characters straight. So many men were introduced at once. I still enjoyed the story, but the men were all a blur. I was hoping that in this book, some real time and relationship building scenes would be included so that we could get to know the characters and enjoy the love story. But sadly, that doesn’t happen. The book is basically about the logistics of becoming a queen. Pretty much zero time is spent with individual men. No getting to know one another. They are all somehow crazy in love with each other when they know nothing about each other. And Cassarah is super naive when it comes to sex, thinking it is only for producing children. Then, after only sharing a few pretty chaste kisses with the guys, jumps right into sex. Zero lead in. And after waiting to nearly the end of the third book for any sort of spicy scenes, it turns out to be terribly lackluster.
Omg Elizabeth you are killing me with this series….it’s such a wild ride you need to buckle up and settle in for!!
Cass has to pull up her big girl knickers and step into the spotlight, taking her place as the all important prophesied Dragon queen…but as always, she faces hidden dangers and lurking traps as not everyone is happy at her ascension!! We also see Cass choose her harem….with some seriously steamy and swooning moments that you DO NOT want to miss!!
As usual Ms Knight delivers a book full of drama, twists and turns, danger, passion and a kick-arse heroine that is growing into something that world needs!!
Book 3 in the series is just epic and I implore you to give this series a go! 5⭐️’s definitely!!
This series is absolutely worth the read. I'm not normally one for slow burn to be honest but this author does it soo well and I found myself not even missing that kind of aspect since the story just captures your attention.
I might be a little biased here becomes this author has quickly become one of my favorites but this series is becoming a favorite of mine as well. I love that we see progression of the FMC's relationship in a realistic way and it's not just jumped to immediate love or sexy times lol. This is a serious slow burn but honestly sooo worth it and I just love the realistic-ish way everyone is portrayed in this series.
I do now have a serious hangover from that cliff hanger and I'm anxiously awaiting the final installment!!
I flipping love love loved this book! Omg where do I begin. It was so good and had you on the edge of your seat wondering what was going to happen next and how Cassarah was going to handle things. Cass is amazing and the way she handles all the situations she is thrown is phenomenal. And can I just say how hot her men are!! Just wow!!! So darn sweet, protective and always keeping cass on her toes lol. But that ending though gah!!!! Definitely can not wait for the final book to see how it all ties together and comes out....highly recommend this book and if you have not started this series you need to ASAP! I can not praise this book enough!
If you've read books 1 and 2 then honestly, you know you need to read book 3 ... if you haven't, go start at book 1 and buckle up for a rollercoaster! Elizabeth is yet again absolutely killing it with this book. Cass is an amazing fmc and seeing her grow into herself as she takes on the role of the Queen gives me chills. There is so much for Cass and her guys to overcome, but the way their stories are developing is a masterclass for anyone to read. I just live this series and I'm so excited for the next book but also will be so sad once it's over. I will be coming back to these books again and again.
DAYYUUUUMMM @elizabeth_kni8ht comes through and writes a glorious fucking masterpiece again! Like how does the unicorn queen have so much good writing and amazing storyline lines in the head of hers?
The story keeps you entertained! The characters are all likable except the ones ya ain’t supposed to like. The world building is too notch.
Literally my ONLY complaint is that I have to wait till Summer to read this conclusion to this series. After that cliffie? That’s brutal friend!
Whoa! This journey is getting better and better. Cassarah has grown into a formidable queen - strong, resilient, intelligent and kind. But trouble follows as it always does and betrayals continue to be the flavor of the day. I love Cassarah's growth not just as a character but also her relationships with the men and her friends. In this installment things finally move along in the romance department and everyone starts to get to know each other better. I'm loving this series - the story is great, the characters are wonderful and there's dragons! Who doesn't love dragons??? Looking forward to the next installment in this story.
I'm used to fast burn books that take me on a wild ride but I'm really enjoying this slow burn because there is never a dull moment, we did finally get a bit of a burn and I'm so proud of Cass for finally opening up to her guys. I love the connection between Cass and Vasin and you really see Cass come into being Queen in this book when they take all the mercenaries to her kingdom. Of course there is some drama with people being greedy but Cass handles it all like a true Queen. I'm excited for the next book to see how her relationship with the guys progresses and how they defeat the lost king
Book 3 of a series and not to be read as a standalone.
Its time for Cass to travel to Sheca and take her place as the prophesied Dragon Queen but not everyone is happy and the lost king isn’t the only threat. This book sees Cass really come in to her own and includes some breathtaking scenes. Cass also finally chooses her consorts so we get some added steam to go with our swoon worthy romance. I am once again amazed at the feelings Elizabeth Knight has managed to pull from me. That cliffhanger is just cruel though, I need to know what happens!
Cass is also. Fighting for the life she wants with the guys. However there are still secrets, lies and what not preventing that from happening. I love the mind Cassarah has and I am one who can't wait for the next book. This one is however pretty awesome as it has so much with betrayal, coronation even, steam and dragons! I love me some dragons so I was xo happy to read this book and I even reread book 1 and 2. You'll need to read in order but you’ll not be disappointed if you do. Highly recommend reading this series.
The MCs are faced with challenge after challenge as we progress towards war. Our FMC is filling her role as Queen and strategist beautifully as the MMCs try to get their dynamics in order. We have a general understanding of all the MMCs and their backstories, and sometimes we just get a dump of their information. The relationships are all slowly building as characters get comfortable with each other. The slow burn is coming to an end it seems as things get steamy towards the end of this book!
It should be an exciting final book in the series!
What a fantastic third book. This book gives us a real insight into the characters and gives us moments where we can really get to know more about everything. There's is action, suspense and exciting scenes that will have you gripped to the pages. I absolutely loved this book and yes, it's ends on a cliffhanger. I can't wait for more. Fantastic story that has a unique and interesting writing that you'll fall in love with.
If you have liked all the previous book this one only takes you higher! I love how Cass is really growing into herself and realizing what she wants and what are some of the really hard choices to make as queen. She also does it with such grace and honor that you can easily see why the people are devoted to her any why those who aren't are just out for power. The guys also make some moves in this book the both surprise and delight me. I can't wait for the next book. ❤
The Forgotten Throne is the third book in the Mercenary Queen series. This series is definitely a slow burn as things don’t heat up until this book. But it works amazingly well for this story.
Cassarah’s journey has lead her to become a strong Queen. I like watching her character grow.
The men are hot . Definitely worth the read 😉
This book gave us some twists and turns and that cliffhanger….I need to see what happens next!!
Wow… this book had me on the edge of my seat the whole way through. Cassarah has to deal with so much in this book from betrayal to thing expected from her as Queen. Through it all she has her guardians there to watch her back and keep her from getting overwhelmed, their relationships progress a lot in this book and you can see their bonds and trust in each other strengthening. I am so excited to see how this story concludes!
