"You left me."
"I freed you," I corrected. Gripping her hips, I leaned down, bringing my mouth mere centimeters from hers, swallowing her exhales as if they were the only oxygen I would ever need. Resting an elbow beside her head, I pressed my body against hers. Chest to chest, her breasts pillowed between us. "I have loved you every single minute of every single day since I laid eyes on you. Happy. Sad. Desperate. Lost in love.
You were all of my memories."
"Your nerd friends are going to bust when they hear this bit of seduction you have going on."
He blanched. "I’m not telling them."
"And why not?" I winked.
"You think I want them imagining what I’m about to do to you when we run into them at the grocery store? Think again, Remi. This…" His palms slid under my skirt to my hips and tugged my panties down before he stuck them inside his pants pocket. And just like that, he was unfastening his belt, lifting me to my feet, and then folding me over the arm of the chair. "This is all for me."
With rough hands, he shoved my dress up, losing his patience when it got caught on my breasts.
"Take that shit off."
Oh, hell.
Any other situation and we would be having some pretty serious words about him barking orders. But it was Bowen filling me, stretching me, and owning me completely. So, needless to say, I couldn’t get the damn dress off fast enough.
Slowly withdrawing, he rumbled, "Bra too."
"I need you to understand. I want to know everything there is to know about you. I want to know about your first kiss. About your childhood celebrity crushes. I want to have firsthand knowledge of all your favorite songs and make sure I dance with you to all of them. It doesn’t stop there. I want to know what makes you happy and sad and makes your skin crawl. There’s not a single aspect of your life that I’m not interested in. And I’m sure as hell sorry if I’ve ever made you feel otherwise."
"The dog food is—"
"In the bin in the pantry. Sugar gets one little scoop. Clyde gets two big ones. They both get the joint supplement in the cabinet beside the fridge. One squirt for Sugs. Three for the big man. Then, because you feel awful about leaving them for so long even though they trashed your house, I’ll give them each a little piece of cheese on top."
His smile stretched impossibly wide. "God, I love you."
"Don’t forget the so fucking much part. It’s my favorite."
He dipped low, smiling against my mouth as he mumbled, "So fucking much."
Perfect didn’t exist for me and Remi. We were battered soldiers fighting an endless war. A war I tirelessly waged day after day and night after night.
Remi Grey had been born to be mine.
“Who are you?” I whispered.
… “Same person I’ve always been: yours.”
