Vintage Trailers and Blackmailers

Rate this book
There is nothing like finding a dead body, clad only in a red satin thong, on your property to jolt you from a quiet routine. Jules Keene, owner of the posh Fern Valley Camping Resort in the Blue Ridge Mountains, is thrust into the world of the Dark Web when one of her guests, Ira Perkins, is found murdered in the woods near her vintage trailers. Jules quickly discovers that the man who claimed to be on a writing retreat was not what he seemed, and someone will go to any length to find what he left at her resort. Jules, along with her Jack Russell Terrier sidekick Bijou, has to put the rest of the missing pieces of a blackmailing scheme together before her business is ruined.

Jules’s resort, set in the heart of Virginia’s Blue Ridge Mountains near Charlottesville in the quaint town of Fern Valley, offers guests a unique vacation in refurbished and upcycled vintage trailers. Hoping to expand her offerings, she partners with her maintenance/security guy to create a village of tiny houses, the latest home DIY craze, but a second murder of a reporter interrupts Jules’s expansion plans. Curiosity gets the best of her, and she steps up her sleuthing to find out what Ira Perkins was really up to and what he was really hiding at her resort.

Jules Keene is running the trailer park she inherited from her parents, and she’s really making it shine with the vintage trailers she’s renovated and now rents out. She’s even gotten some long-term renters, including Ira Perkins. Ira is writing a book, and is very cranky, so Jules isn’t too happy with his presence in the park. Then two hikers find Ira’s dead body in the woods bordering the campground. Can Jules figure out what happened before it negatively impacts what she’s build?

I grew up camping, so the setting for this series definitely appealed to me. And that paid off. I would love to visit a place like Jules runs for a relaxing vacation. Unfortunately, the plot was weak. Part of that was my perception based on how much time was passing. However, I do feel like events were substituting for twists in the second half. Still, it did keep my interest the entire way through, and that was partially because of the characters. I loved Jules and the rest of the staff she’s got helping her run this campground. There was enough I enjoyed that I am glad I picked up this book, but I do wish the plot had been stronger.

NOTE: I received an ARC of this book.

Love the author's great humor and quirky characters in this fun mystery (first in a series) set in a "glamping" resort. Guests stay in upcycled vintage trailers, and have a grand time until one of them is found dead in a red satin thong. Oh my! And it goes from there with a witty narrative that keeps you glued and chuckling. Out now.

Thanks to the author and Level Best Books for the review copy; opinions are mine.

The setting intrigued me. I've never heard of a resort or campground where the campers are provided.

The characters are fun, and the twists and turns kept me up late at night to solve the murder.

If you enjoy cozy mysteries, you'll like Vintage Trailers and Blackmailers.

I received and ARC of this book but was under no obligation to give a review.

An entertaining mystery that keeps you guessing when a body is found in the woods owned by Jules Keene. Jules operates the adjoining luxury camping resort and soon finds herself involved because she finds out some interesting information and the murderer sees her as a threat.

The first thing I noticed about this book was all the great details and descriptions. It made the campground come to life with its vintage deluxe trailers. There is also a sprinkling of humor and suspense that keeps the story engaging. Thanks to the author for a complimentary advanced review copy. The opinions expressed are my own.

I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy from the Author. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.Vintage Trailers and Blackmailers by Heather Weidner is the first book, and it's great.
Will Jules figure out what Ira is doing?
Jules Keene
Jules Keene is the sleuth and our main character. She's the owner of the camping resort that her parent's started when she was little. Jules loves the resort and is trying to think of many things to keep the resort open almost all year round. That way, she can figure out the payroll. Jules is an intelligent woman who wants what is best for the campground and brings people to Fern Valley. I love that about Jules since a lot of her plans sound good to me for the resort. She is an excellent character in the way that Jules wants to help the police solve the crime, not just that her resort can go back to normal.
The VictimVintage Trailers and Blackmailers CR
Two of Jules's resort guests found Ira Perkins in the forest. Ira Perkins is the first victim and the reason why the second victim died. He told Jules and everyone else that he was there to write a book, so do not disturb him. Ira wasn't writing a book but doing something shady in his trailer. Jules decides to figure out what he is doing and how to get the people after him to leave her resort park alone. She does this exceptionally well while also getting way further into the investigation than what Jules wanted. Ira, as a character, wasn't a nice person since he could talk a good talk, but when someone started talking to him, a lot of things didn't sound right. Suspicions were right as Jules found out a lot more about Ira and what he was doing. Ira wasn't a nice person, but did he deserve to die the way he did? Probably not. But did he deserve to die? Who knows.
Five Stars
Vintage Trailers and Blackmailers by Heather Weidner is a fantastic start to a new series for Ms. Weidner. I can't wait to read the next book in this series to find out what else Jules can get into when it comes to solving a mystery. Jules, Roxanne, Jake, and Emily are all great characters, and I can't wait to see what else can happen with them. I am giving Vintage Trailers and Blackmailers by Heather Weidner five stars and recommending it to everyone that likes to read cozy mysteries.

Fern Valley Luxury Camping Resort isn't the first place you'd think of for a murder scene, but this is exactly what makes Heather Weidner's new release VINTAGE TRAILERS AND BLACKMAILERS in her Jules Keene Glamping Mystery series so much fun. When a recluse writer is murdered Jules Keene sets out to save the campground's reputation and solve the crime. Jules quickly learns not all is what it seems, and someone will go to any length to find what has been left behind,

Lovable characters written with Weidner's usual charm and pizzazz, VINTAGE TRAILERS AND BLACKMAILERS is a five star mystery. This book is a fun read and the quintessential cozy for your collection. If you love a good mystery, with lots of twists, you'll love Weidner's VINTAGE TRAILERS AND BLACKMAILERS.

This is the first in a new series from Heather Weidner, and I couldn't put it down. Loved the glamping resort setting (I would vacation here in one of those trailers!). There's a great cast of characters, including Aunt Roxanne and Bijou, Jules' Jack Russell terrier. I'm looking forward to more books in this series!

Jules Keene runs a family-friendly campground filled with restored and luxurious vintage trailers in the small town of Fern Valley. But when two of her guests stumble upon a dead body, it could spell trouble for this small town resident. Does the dead man have secrets to hide beyond what he’s shared with Jules?

Overall, I really enjoyed this series starter. All the characters were likeable, and the setting was superb. I found the writing flowed well and was easy to read and digest. The story focuses not only on the mystery but on small town life and Jules’s journey in life.

The book was a light, fun, quirky read with interesting characters. It sets up for a unique series. I found it very entertaining and enjoyable to read this clean, fun cozy mystery! I highly recommend this book and series!

Great, creative, unique setting! I'd love to go glamping at Jules Keene's place! The book's plot moves along well, and the interactions between Jules and Roxanne are delightful. Plus, there's the hint of a possible future romance. Can't wait to see how the tiny house village comes along. I enjoyed this cozy mystery and will be following Jules' future adventures.

I enjoyed the setting and loved the concept of renting trailers to stay in the Blue Ridge Mountains but the story didn’t grab me and pull me in. The characters were interesting enough but again, no huge pull to learn more about them although I do want to learn more so I will continue with the series.

Now, this is my idea of camping! Cute, upcycled vintage trailers are so much better than tents! (Not that I have camped in a tent in the last 30 years.....) If Fern Valley Camping Resort was real, you can bet I'd be vacationing there. As owner of this resort, Jules Keene has got a great thing going. The campers are full, and people are happy. One reason they might be happy too is the delicious breakfasts that they can get in the lodge. I'd fill up on cinnamon rolls.

Vintage Trailers and Blackmailers is a fantastic start to what I'm sure will be a wonderful series! Heather Weidner paints us a vivid picture, and it's easy to feel as if you're in Fern Valley. She describes not only the camping resort but also the town. You're going to get hungry since Jules visits several trendy restaurants in Fern Valley. So, get some cookies or carrots (or better yet, cinnamon rolls) for your book reading snack. I also love the fact that she doesn't tell us about many of the trailers because that leaves more surprises for the next book. And, speaking of more surprises, I can't wait to see how the tiny house village that they're planning comes along.

The characters are very well-written, and I feel like, for a first book in a series, I got to know them fairly well. I'm looking forward to seeing how they grow through the series. There were just enough side characters to not overwhelm us. Everybody plays an important role in the book. I won't tell you who my favorites were from Vintage Trailers and Blackmailers. You never know; I might change my mind later!

The mystery is well-plotted, and the pacing works perfectly. I never felt like things were dragging along or moving too quickly. I'm really looking forward to reading more books in the series. Add Vintage Trailers and Blackmailers to your to be read piles today!

Packed with action and filled with filled with “Oh, man, I didn’t see THAT coming” moments, this first installment in the Jules Keene Glamping Mysteries series will not disappoint. And Ms. Weidner made glamping sound so glamorous that I think I’ll take my husband up on his suggestion to go camping…but only if it’s Fern Valley Camping Resort style!

Vintage trailers and blackmailers

This is my first book by this author, but it definitely won't be my last! I was hooked from the very first page! Jules owns an upscale camping resort that she runs with the help of her aunt, Roxanne. Jules and her dad bought old vintage trailers and fixed them up to create this resort before he died. Jules resort is very successful and they have a full booking every year. This time around, they have to deal with cranky, old Mr. Perkins who complains about everything, until one day his body is found deceased in the nearby woods. I was on the edge of my seat wondering who did what! Jules is just trying to keep peace at her resort, but new things keep happening with each passing day, all related to cranky old Ira Perkins. What a great read! You will not want to put this down!

This is the first book by this author that I have read.
The first book in A Jules Keene Glamping Mystery.
Jules owns a camping resort “glamping” that she runs with her Aunt Roxanne. Love Aunt Roxanne’s personality. The resort is more upscale and is quite busy with bookings.
Well, Jules camper resort gets turned upside down when Ira Perkins is found dead in the woods.
A mystery with humor, full of secrets, one very handsome security guy, Bijou the dog, blackmail, and some interesting strangers.
A fun mystery and look forward to what happens next.

I received an ARC prior to publication and decided to voluntarily review it.

This book kept me hooked right from the start.
I had never heard of camping in retro campers, but the description of the resort and the campers made me think it would be a fun vacation.
The book is well written with a strong protagonist in Jules Keene.
The supporting characters are fun, quirky, and there's a hunky maintenance guy and an FBI agent in the picture too.
Looking forward to the next installment!

This was a great cozy mystery starter. I love the idea of Jules's campground. I think the whole "glamping" would be really fun and unique. Heather Weidner wrote a really great storyline with great characters. I think Jules's dog, Bijou, will be everyone's favorite character. The town of Fern Valley seems like the ideal spot for tourists, but it has that warm familiarity to it that could easily make it home for anyone. I'm so excited to see what Heather will come up with next for Jules and Bijou.

In Vintage Trailers and Blackmailers, the calm of Jules Keene’s Blue Ridge Mountain camper resort is disturbed when Ira Perkins’ lifeless body is found in the woods. What follows is a cozy mystery full of blackmail, secrets, mysterious strangers—and handsome security guy, Jake Evans. Jules and her loyal pup Bijou are in for a suspense-filled adventure. I love the warm and friendly characters and the twists and turns in this new down-home, mutt-loving series.

Jules Keene owns the Fern Valley Camping Resort in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia. The difference between this camping resort and others is that everyone stays in vintage trailers that Jules and her staff have refurbished and renewed. The business is thriving, and Jules is happy in that fact.

But when a family shows up, the man in the next camper complains -- and it appears that he's complaining about everything. Ira Perkins has been their guest for months, and it doesn't look like he'll be leaving anytime soon. So Jules and her aunt Roxanne try to make the best of it. But the day after Roxanne has an argument with Ira, he's found dead in the woods by two birdwatching campers, clad only in a red satin thong.

Now Jules has a murder on her hands, and with the police asking questions, she doesn't think it can be good for business. Yet while her business doesn't seem to suffer, her personal life does: there's been 'accidents' on her property, a squatter, and a reporter who is both giving information from Jules and getting information from her. Yet when Jules and her crew find a couple of interesting items that Ira left behind, soon Jules becomes a target...and there's another murder. Now she's on a timeline to find out who wants to get rid of her and why...

This is the first book in a new series, and I must say that I enjoyed it very much. The premise was different from other cozies in the fact that the protagonist owns a camping resort with vintage campers. I found that refreshing, and although I have no interest in it myself (I dislike camping of any kind; give me a good hotel and I'm happy); plenty of other people will find this novel.

I also liked the fact that when Jules found information, she shared it with the police almost immediately (okay, she did digging herself, but then again, the murder occurred on her property) and really, she did give the sheriff whatever she found, so I found that admirable. I really dislike protagonists who keep the information to themselves and then get in trouble later for doing so. No wonder the police don't trust them to do the right thing!

While we didn't get to learn a lot about her aunt or the other secondary characters, I am in hopes that this will be remedied in the next book. And I did like the FBI agent quite a bit and hope to see him again in other books. I also liked the sheriff, and that's a good thing, as a lot of times they aren't the nicest of people in books.

When Jules starts investigating, she learns that there's more to Ira than anyone first expected. While he touted himself as a writer, it turns out he was anything but, and in discovering the truth, Jules gets more than she bargained for. Working pretty much on her own (and the FBI agent and sheriff), she manages to uncover more information that leads to a climax that shows Jules is quick-witted and even has a bit of humor to it. I did enjoy that also.

While this isn't high literature, it's not meant to be, It's a fun cozy that can be read in one evening, and gives us a story that is worth reading. I look forward to the next in the series. Recommended.

I received a copy from the author and the Cozy Mystery Review but this in no way influenced my review.

Vintage Trailers and Blackmailers is book one in Heather Weidner’s A Jules Keene Glamping Mystery series. This cozy mystery novel takes place in the heart of Virginia’s Blue Ridge Mountains outside Charlottesville in a small town by the name of Fern Valley. Jules Keene runs a glamping resort that hosts everyone from individuals simply looking to get away for weekend, to families looking to have a safe and wholesome outdoors experience without all the chaos of actual camping. Business is going good for Jules, but things might be taking a sour turn when one of her customers turns up dead in the woods. Usually death is the final end, but with the death of Ira Perkins he brings a lot of chaos and trouble to Jules’s doorstep.
Vintage Trailers and Blackmailers is the first book that I have read by Heather Weidner, but this book is absolute winner. This book is a work of fiction, but you’d almost believe you could go to Fern Valley and meet them for real. The author packs this story with mischief, thrills, mystery, some hits at romance, and tons of chaos. Regardless of a death at the resort, Jules has a business to run, and customers to take care of. She does a pretty good job sleuthing and somehow balancing everything that is going on. Especially when chaos keeps popping up in some form or another over the passing days.
As an amateur sleuth, Jules makes quite a few mistakes, but she is like a dog with a bone. She’s not letting up until she solves this twisted web of a mystery left behind after Ira’s death.
There is so much to enjoy in this novel. From the relationships, the characters have towards each other and their customers, to the multi-layered mystery and all the pieces that go with it. You get not just one murder, but two! There is quite a bit of chaos that goes in this book, but not everything can be laid at the feet of Ira or those who bring trouble to Fern Valley. There is some homegrown drama, too that plays into things.
The author answers most of my questions by the end of this book, but there are some lingering ones. Regardless I can’t wait to read more of Jules and those around her. There is a lot to look forward to and I hope I don’t have to wait long. I’m rating this book 5 out of 5 stars. If you love cozy mystery novels and/or are looking for a new series to check out, don’t miss this book.

Vintage Trailers and Blackmailers: A Jules Keene Glamping Mystery is the first book in a new series. The story takes place in Fern Valley, a small town located in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia. Jules and her aunt run the family-owned business, a fifty-acre Fern Valley Luxury Camping Resort. The company specializes in retro-inspired trailers. When a guest at the campground is murdered, Jules becomes worried about the effect on the resort’s business. Even though enforcement officers are actively working on the case, Jules takes it upon herself to try and solve the mystery of who killed the guest and why. Any information pertinent to the murder case, Jules passes on to law enforcement personnel. However, she keeps a copy of everything to aid in her quest to discover the truth. The murder is only the beginning of criminal behavior by an unknown assailant(s). Will the culprit(s) behind the unlawful acts be identified and arrested?

Heather Weidner has done an outstanding job with this engaging and enjoyable debut novel that features Jules Keene. The story introduces a group of realistic characters. Jules is likable and believable in the central role, and the supporting characters are an interesting mix of personalities. The story is not just about a mystery to be solved. It also encompasses secretive behavior, interpersonal relationships, perseverance, political aspirations, business undertakings, the close connection between a pet and its owner, and a juggling act between amateur sleuthing and fulfilling job-related duties.

The author brings the story alive with dialogue that fits compelling characters and well-crafted scenes that use imagery and figurative language. Twists and turns, along with criminal actions that escalate as the story progresses, keep readers invested and make them want to keep reading. At the end are recipes of foods enjoyed by characters in the book. Vintage Trailers and Blackmailers is an appealing mystery that will entertain readers, and I look forward to reading about more adventures of Jules Keene and how her character continues to develop in future books.

Jules owns a camping resort. When one of her guests is murdered, and strange incidents and destruction start happening at the resort, she decides she needs to investigate before her business is ruined. This is Vintage Trailers and Blackmailers (A Jules Keene Glamping Mystery) by Heather Weidner

I love reading book one in a new mystery series. This book did not disappoint. The protagonist is charming, gutsy, and smart. The supporting characters were a nice mix. I loved Aunt Roxanne who is stylish and always has a designer bag on her arm. Jake, is a fix-it man who also does security and has great chemistry with Jules. Initially, I was not a fan of Sheriff Hobbs and Agent Stafford but as the story continued, I warmed up to them. And last but not least, there is Bijou, Jules’ Jack Russell Terrier.

Glamping was an interesting backdrop for the mystery, and I loved how the author included many details about Glamping into the story. The plot wasn’t new, but a different take which made the story interesting.

The author’s style was easy going and the book was fun to read. Occasionally, the story lagged a bit, but then would pick right up. I’m looking forward to more in the series.

My review is voluntary and all comments and opinions expressed are my own.

I really enjoyed reading this book, and was excited to jump on board so soon after the publication of book 1. The story is set in a campground filled with renovated vintage trailers, so it's more of a "glamping" experience. This sounds like so much fun, and it was interesting to read about the different trailers and events in the campground.

The murder takes place in the woods off the campground, so the owner Jules Keene has to step in and investigate. I liked that she worked with the police, and didn't take too many unnecessary risks. I knew who the bad guy was pretty early, but I think we were supposed to. The real fun was in trying to figure out the details of the how and why of the crime.

I liked all the characters, the setting, and the mystery. So basically....I liked everything! I can't wait for the next book in this fun new series.

From Chapter One thru Chapter 31 I found this book to be a delightful read. The cast of characters, lead by the main character Jules Keene, were each unique but well-developed and you can easily create the image of them in your mind. At to that a beautifully described setting for the book, a Glamping campground, and a mystery full of twists and turns....it's hard book to put down. I only wish I could book a stay at the Fern Valley Camping resort right now and that the next book in this series was out to take there to read. As a bonus, recipes are included at the end of the book!

I really enjoyed reading Vintage Trailers and Blackmailers. I just love glamping trailers and was super excited to get my hands on this read. This is my first read with this author, Heather Weidner, and she did not disappoint. The characters were enjoyable to get to know. The descriptions of details in the book might have been a little too much in my opinion but didn’t stop me from continuing to read it. I think you will enjoy this book and like getting to know Jules and her sidekick Bijou.

I was bothered by how they treated the dog in the story. It felt like the dog was shown more like a person than an actual dog. Also, the main character always seemed to be in the middle of everything happening, which made the story feel less realistic.

The speed of the story was a bit of a problem. The plot seemed to wander and there weren't enough important events happening to keep it interesting throughout. Instead of a really exciting end, the big moment didn't live up to what I hoped for. That's what makes me think about whether I should read the second book or not.

Jules owns a campsite of vintage trailers and is living a quaint life- (she spends more time with her dog than anyone else)
Nothing really going on. until one day.. two of her guests find a body. And it all starts to unravel from there. another person dies.
A USB with mysterious contents.
600,000$ found hidden away.
What was a very quiet small town quickly turned into a town with helicopters looking for suspects, arson, carjackings and police visiting Jules's Campsite EVERYDAY.

Murder and glamping

Heather Weidner introduces readers to the world of glamping—where folks stay at a campground with a touch of glamour and a whole lot more comfort. The mystery is intriguing, starting with the discovery of the body of a “writer” who was staying at the campground. The action picks up there and barely slows down. I particularly enjoyed reading how Jules Keene and her father had rescued and restored campers from different eras.

If you like to venture to unexpected, but homey locales in your cozy mystery reads, this is the book for you. I enjoyed getting to know Jules and her cohort of friends and family in this new series. It was light, fun, and a presented a new spin on the small town with the glamping camp setting. I appreciated the author's attention to detail in the different styles of glamping trailers as much as the mystery itself.
