Ripped Bratva #1

Ripped Veil

Rate this book
One year ago, I did something unspeakable.
Then I ran from the crime in a bloodstained wedding dress—
Right into the arms of a man I was never supposed to meet.

One thing leads to another, and before I know it…
I’m his.

I thought that would be the end of it.
One night of bliss.
One moment of passion.

But I was wrong.

Because a year from the day I collided with the Bratva don, he’s back.
And this time around, I’ll have to tell him the truth:
The baby in my arms is HIS.

⭐️ one star -

Due to my recent Bratva obsession, I decided to delve into this one. Unfortunately, I was lured by a promising premise (alpha male, surprise baby), but it was too awful to really get into it, which is disappointing as I love the surprise baby trope 😢

What’s the main reason I didn’t like it? This is going to sound convoluted, but the writing here from Fox is competent, and the drawing of the story was fairly good. What wasn’t good was the dialogue. The author failed at writing any meaningful dialogue that made sense to the story, and the characters were just talking to talk, and mostly talked in meaningless circles. It was very frustrating to read their back and forth that went nowhere, and it read like a poor imitation of an overdramatic soap opera.

It’s my belief that this writing style was deemed necessary to stretch it into the second book. Really, the repetition was mostly likely added to prolong the unnecessary drama.

About halfway into the story, I made the decision to skim through to the end and the wholly unnecessary cliffy. There was absolutely no reason to stretch this unfortunate mess out into another book, other than the obvious money grab.

Overall a wholly disappointing read, but I would try this author again before I give up on her as the world building did appeal to me.

One lackluster star for this one. Do not recommend.

What a horrible ending

I really was into this book and then bam you're left in the middle of the story and no ending in sight! What a bummer, plus it just was disappointing. The heroine wakes to find a dead man on the floor and she is in a wedding dress. She was to marry the leader of the cult. She runs away into the middle of a mafia war and meets the 'hero' and believe me he wasn't a hero. It was just too much and they end up making whoopee in the bathroom as a gun fight ensues. It was just odd. She runs off and next thing it's a year later. He's tracking a human trafficking ring that is huge. They killed his wife and son. They run into each other again and more gore and killing happen, characters are added and it is quite the mystery. I don't want to give anything away but the hero was just so hot and cold. And the ending was very disappointing. I didn't see that coming. It's all starting to come together so now I have to read the next book in the story. Luckily it is free in KU and out already. Thank goodness.

I’m like a quarter of the way through the book…and if Charity doesn’t leave, my rating won’t change. If she does, maybe I will adjust it. OH MY she put herself in all these situations..chose to be a hooker when she actually does have other options (not even in a ‘wow she could get a job’ way. But she was actually offered jobs & said no bc she likes hooking), then will not stop attaching herself to Elyssa as if she’s her responsibility & deserves anything just because she convinced Elyssa to not meet with Phoenix a year ago & basically stay with her. Then has the nerve to be so forward with Phoenix like it’s HIS fault that Elyssa didn’t meet with him & ended up in the shelterWHEN ITS ACTUALLY HER FAULT. She is IRKING ME lol. Let me finish & see if I should adjust my rating but wow I hope she goes away. Watch her end up with Phoenix’s best friend & get her own books too. It always happens that way. I wish authors would be more original. UGH 🙄
Edit: uhhhh dnf 35% -can’t get with charity wanting to use the H & h being super naive & just going with it bc ‘charity is my closest friend’ girl grow some balls & tell this random ass girl you’ve known for a year, & continues to mooch off what little you & YOUR NEW BABY have, to kick ROCKS!!!!. Eff this book for now 🙃

I can’t believe I finished this duet.

It was bad, but I was having an off day where my brain didn’t let me DNF.

It was bad. Really bad.

BTW, what I say goes for both books.

The plot was all over the place absolutely ludicrous. And I have read hundreds of mafia stories - so I have a high tolerance for bullshit stories and flimsy plots. So when I say this was ludicrous I mean it with all my heart.

The characters- both of them were absolute and utter idiots.

The male MC had no personality - AT ALL. He was also, as I mentioned an idiot. It makes no sense that this man had people working for him. With that pea sized brain of his I’m concerned how he even stayed alive for so long in that world. Again- it all makes 0 sense.

The female MC - she was pathetic. No spine, no common sense, no will, no redeeming qualities, just another absolute moron who makes me question how she managed to stay alive.

Everything about this book and the next is just bad. I can’t compliment nothing.

ALSO- nothing really happened in these two books. The whole story could have been summed up in 250 pages at most and at least then it would have been less time wasted.

But really now, there were endless pages with - NOTHING- a lot of back and forth and words - meaningless words and repetition.

Elyssa grew up in a cult. She was groomed from childhood to be an obedient wife one day. The leader of the cult chooses her to be his wife. Elyssa wakes to realize she’s done something dreadful on her intended wedding night, she starts a fire and flees into the dessert.

She meets the hero, Phoenix (son of Artem and Esme). He has his own tragic past. An evil organization known for human trafficking killed his wife and son years earlier and he’s been on a mission ever since. Then he meets this damsel in distress. Their night together will have lasting consequences.

Both Elyssa and Phoenix are messed up. She’s too naive and trusting and he’s too paranoid and jaded. Elyssa is a sweet heroine but definitely frustrating with her line of thinking. Phoenix doesn’t deserve any of her loyalty. He’s really an unpleasant, unlikable hero through pretty much the entire book. We get small flashes of potential but he’s quick to squash them down at every perceived weak moment. It’s frustrating from a romance perspective but pretty thrilling for the story. It keeps you on edge the whole time!

Story 4/5, Heat 1.5/5, Spice 1/5, Darkness 1.5/5

Trope - mafia, dead wife, revenge plot, surprise baby

I’d class this a slow burn despite the fact they have baby making sex at 6%. They don’t hook up again until 73%. The two sexy scenes here are pretty low heat and spice level and I’m not saying that’s a bad thing. There is some heat here but this book is definitely plot driven and it’s a page turner!

No condoms, virgin h, no manwhore, massive push away from H, like most of the book - the h isn’t exactly pursuing him but he’s way into her and trying to fight it, no OW drama but he’s still hung up on dead wife, some OM drama (from h’s previous life in cult), 1 year separation between their first meeting and finding each other again. No sharing, no cheating between H and h. This is book one of a duet so there is a doozy of a cliffhanger. Book 2 releases October 17.

Safety - the h was intended to marry the cult leader we do get some on the page, description of the trauma that was the h’s wedding night. The cult leader is definitely not the H here and you definitely wouldn’t want him to be, he’s super icky. I know some readers hate this sort of thing so here’s your heads up if you need it.

Once again, Nicole Fox has drawn me into her web! I just absolutely love reading her stories. This was mysterious, intense, suspenseful, dark, full of nothing but revenge and surprises.

This is the story of Phoenix and Elyssa. Phoenix is the Don of the Bratva in Vegas (he is also the son of Artem and Esme and nephew to Cillian and Killian O’Sullivan from the Irish Mafia family). For 5 years he has been stuck on getting revenge for the death of his wife Aurora and his son Yuri. His family and best friend Matvei are worried about him as he is doing things that a Don shouldn’t be doing. He is being reckless, careless and sometimes just downright stupid. Elyssa is a young, naïve, sheltered young woman who was raised in a “cult” like community (The Sanctuary). She was trained to be the meek, submissive good little wife. However, the night of her wedding to Father Josiah, she snaps and ends up killing him (at least she thinks she does when she wakes up covered in blood) in a wedding dress. She runs from the Sanctuary and ends up in Vegas in a seedy little club where she runs into Phoenix. There is something about Elyssa that makes him want to protect her even though he is there to exact his revenge. Things don’t play out the way Phoenix wants, but he and Elyssa do connect. When all hell breaks loose, he tells her to run and to meet him at a diner. She never shows.

Fast forward 1 year and once again Phoenix is following a lead and runs into Elyssa, her friend Charity and a baby boy who looks exactly like him. Once again Phoenix ends up saving her, but he can’t figure out what it is about her that has him wanting to protect her and forget about everything else! Both Phoenix and Elyssa put up walls around themselves when it comes to the past, neither wants to tell the other what has happened and both feel guilty for different reasons. Secrets are revealed, truths come out, betrayal from an unlikely source, tragedy, and a cliffhanger will leave you wanting more! I cannot wait to start reading the next book in the series to see what happens next. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

My thoughts on this story & why the 1 star

I wish going in it had been clear this was a duet & not a standalone as it felt really long & drawn out with more questions than answers & ends of a cliffhanger

I don’t read books about any sort of cult at all & had this been mentioned the h was from a cult again I wouldn’t have picked this book up

When the H finds out he has a son he has zero reaction none he literally doesn’t give one shit & even though the baby looks like him & the whole way through the book there is never any doubt, right at the end we find out the h is unsure if the H is the father or it is in fact the leader of the cult who raped her the same night her & the H have sex! Could you even have sex with another man the same night you were brutally raped & your virginity stolen?!

This doesn’t feel anything like a mafia book so I felt duped as it’s misleading

There is absolutely no romance or connection between the H/h so I wouldn’t categorise it as a romance either

I won’t be picking up book 2

Elyssa is a member of a cult and ends up running from it in a bloody wedding dress. She ends up in Vegas where she meets Phoenix who helps her and sparks fly. She doesn’t see him again for a year and now she has a little boy named Theo. When her past comes back and she can’t remember what she did, Phoenix is her only hope to keep her and her son safe. Fast-paced read with loads of drama, suspense and steam. Great characters with lots of depth and emotion. I liked it.

Ripped Veil by Nicole Fox is the First book in the Ripped Bratva Duet. This starts the story of Phoenix and Elyssa. Phoenix is a Don of the Bratva in Vegas but has been seeking revenge for the death of his wife and son for the past 5 years or so. Elyssa is escaping from a Cult with a bloody wedding dress and a loss of what happened but she thinks she killed the man she was to marry. Elyssa runs in to Phoenix who helps her and ends up having a hot encounter. Fast forward 1 year later, Elyssa has a son and a friend named Charity (didn't like her). Phoenix and her meet again which again he has to help her but he still feels a pull toward her. This does end setting us up for the next installment.

This is book one of the Ripped Duet, a dark, brooding romance that delves into the darkness that lurks in the souls of some men. It starts out with Elyssa Redmond waking up confused as to where she's at and what happened. Coming to her senses, she discovers a bloody, ornate paperweight in her hand and with futher inspection of her surroundings she discovers a body on the floor on the other side of the bed. It's a body with a head wound and someone she recognizes, Father Josiah, the leader of the Sanctuary which is the community she belongs to and grew up in. She notices candles lit around the room and she tosses the veil she was wearing on her head onto the candle and it catches on fire. She also brings a lit candle to the heavy drapery and allows it to also catch on fire. She then runs out of the building and into the dessert headed towards the lights of Las Vegas. Next, we meet Phoenix Kovalyov who is the son of the don of the Kovalyov Bratva in Los Angeles and the nephew of the dons of the Irish mafia clan. He is in a private room at the sex club Wild Night Blossom waiting for Viktor Ozol to arrive for a meeting he set up the the other man under the pretense of a temporary truce between the feuding dons. In actuality, Phoenix is there to extract revenge for the deaths of his wife and their infant son. All indicators point to Viktor being guilty of their deaths but he claims all of this is false misleading information and he had no part in it. While Phoenix is waiting for Viktor to arrive, he notices that it's way past their meeting time and he's about to give up and leave when the door bursts open and in the doorway appears a fragile looking, disheveled young woman in a torn, dirty and bloody wedding dress. It's Elyssa and she's incoherent and scared. Next Viktor enters the room and asks what the hell is going on, that the deal was that they would meet alone, movement behind Viktor hints that he's not as alone as he claims to be. Phoenix pushes Elyssa to hide behind a wing back to hide her and pulls a knife at the same time as Viktor pulls a gun. Phoenix throws his knife and it strikes Viktor's gun arm and he drops his gun. This is where I'll leave you and you'll have to get the book to find out the rest. Just know that there's a tryst in the bathroom of the club which changes the lives of the two involved. This is really a dark, heartbreaking story that has many twists and turns with pasts that defined the individuals that went through them. It is a well crafted story that tugs on your heart strings. I can wholeheartedly recommend this book because of the original, gripping storyline and strong resilient characters. Please be aware that it ends on a cliffhanger and you will to get the second part of this duet to get the conclusion to this convoluted romance.

Ripped Veil: A Russian Mafia Romance. Book one of the Ripped Bratva Duet. This is Phoenix and Elyssa story. Phoenix is the Bratva Don of Las Vegas, he's part of the Kovalyov Bratva crown prince of Artem and Esme. This is a phenomenal start in Nicole latest plot driven book the characters are compelling the drama are riveted and intense. There are so many different things going on in this story at the forefront and behind the scenes. But one thing that remains clear Phoenix quest for revenge for the people who took his wife and kid from him years ago and to stop Astra Tyrannis a disgusted group of people who trafficks human beings. For nineteen years all Elyssa have ever heard playing in her head on repeat was to obey, and serve where she and her parents friends lived at a community by father Joshua.
Elyssa awaken in room that doesn't belong to her a wedding dress covered in blood she believes that she committed murder set the place on and running in Vegas heat until she stumbled into a sex club where she encounter Phoenix for the first time. He was there for a meeting. Phoenix is attracted to her and decides to protect to get her out of the club so he told her to run and to wait him for him at the diner. The two spends one glorious night together and they loss track of each other she went to work at a women's shelter and Phoenix continued on his quest for revenge in avenging his wife and son murder and bringing down the sex trafficking ring. It wasn't until he followed a dirty cop a year later that paths cross again but this time she was not alone. She had a friend and baby who she said was his but Phoenix didn't believe Elyssa looked innocent but sometimes was not adding she keeps popping where he is as if she was planted to take him down.
Ripped Veil is filled with secrets, lies, deception, betrayal, unexpected twists and turns, unpredictable schemes, tons of emotion, action packed, danger, dirty cop, treachery, drama, intensity, surprises, spies, revenge, revelations, passion, heart break, murder, heat, and love. The story was beautifully crafted with well developed characters and a storyline that kept me engrossed and intrigued from the first to the end

I have lived and breathed this book for the last day and a half, this talented author Nicole Fox certainly has the ability to grab and hold your attention, you feel as though you are on the sidelines watching everything unfold. If you have read the Kovalyov Bratva series you will know Phoenix is the son of Artem and Esme. ( however it is not necessary but it does explain where he actually came from) Now Phoenix is a powerful Don in his own right in Las Vegas who is out for revenge following the kidnapping and murders of his wife and baby son. Elyssa looks to be pure and innocent having grown up in a cult sanctuary in the Nevada desert, and promised in marriage to the cult leader right up until she wakes up in her wedding dress covered in blood next to her betrothed body, frightened and scared she runs away ending up hiding in a disgusting sex club somewhere in Vegas where she crosses paths with Phoenix who has got into a bit of a fix with Victor Ozol, an evil monstrous man with absolutely no morals. With a burning hot chemistry Phoenix is drawn to Alyssa, feels he needs to protect her but Elyssa hasn’t finished with running. Twelve months later there paths again cross but she is not alone now, however Phoenix offers them protection but he has doubts about her motives, is this a mistake!! With untruths, betrayals and unexpected revelations you definitely didn’t see coming makes this a book you will not want to put down right up to the cliffhanger at the end, I’m already yearning Ripped Lace the conclusion, fortunately we don’t have to wait too long.

Be warned this is not for the feint of heart . It deals with some difficult subjects.
Lots of triggers
Great characters with lots of steamy scenes.

I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

Ripped Veil is a must read for Mafia romance fans, for fans of action romance. This book started off full speed and picked up from there. The story has a mystery, thrills, action with the romance topping it off. Several mysteries are the plot. What happened in Elyssa's past? Phoenix is searching for the killer of his wife and son. There's a secret organization that uses women and spits them out. Is Elyssa involved with them? Is she a spy trying to bring Phoenix down? What about all of the coincidental meetings with Phoenix?

This book does end with a cliffhanger to be concluded in the next book. I don't normally like cliffhangers but Nicole Fox seems to have mastered the duet. Each book is a great, enthralling read on its own but the whole picture develops over the course of two books.

Elyssa Redmond has grown up secluded from society. Her innocence is so apparent in the being of the story but we see her struggling to learn how to function in the crazy world that makes up Las Vegas and the untamed life within the mafia. The character of Phoenix is all over the place. He has suffered terrible tragedies because of who he is and the mission he is on. People have suffered because of this. He allows some vulnerability to come through with Elyssa but doesn't know whether to trust her or himself. He walls off his heart to protect everyone. I have to read the next book. I can not wait.

Nothing about Elyssa’s life has ever been easy. Waking up in a bloodied wedding dress with a heavy bloody paperweight in her hand and a dead man nearby throws her into a panic so she runs from the Sanctuary, the only home she’s ever known. Having been raised at the Sanctuary she is innocent and not used to the ways of the world. She runs right into the arms of Phoenix Kovalyov, son of Artem and Esme and don of the Los Vegas Bratva. Phoenix has suffered his own tragedies in life and is bitter and suspicious of everyone. He can’t resist helping a woman in distress though. Phoenix is plotting to take down Astra Tyrannis, a foul group who traffic in human beings. Elyssa has interrupted his meeting with one of their leaders, Phoenix tells Elyssa to run and to meet him at a location so he can help her but she runs into Charity who discourages her from doing so fearing that he has bad intentions for Elyssa. Charity and Elyssa become fast friends and Charity protects and guides Elyssa until Charity becomes the target of Astra Tyrannis. Enter Phoenix once again as he follows the man who is stalking Charity. Phoenix takes both woman to his mansion to help them and thus Elyssa and Phoenix’s adventure together continues. I can’t wait to read book two to see how their story ends and if they get their HEA.

Fantastic start to Phoenix's story!! I have been anxiously awaiting his story since he was born! I fell in love with his parents (and Uncles) during their books and when they had kids I needed to know their stories too. I love this world and couldn't wait to get back there!
Phoenix has a tragic start and I hated that for him, that he had to go though that.
Similarly Elyssa also has a tragic beginning and because of that both of them are reluctant to trust anyone. I loved how meek and shy Elyssa was but when she needed to be, she could stand up for herself. Not everyone is a tough bada** and it was a nice change of pace to have a vulnerable, naive character. The secondary characters were great too. I think that is one of the things that Nicole Fox is amazing at, all her characters are a big part of the story. Charity was my favorite of the side characters. She was portrayed perfectly. I could totally see her saying all the things she does and being the person she is because of her circumstances. She was very real and done well. Matvei wasn't bad either. I loved the banter back and forth between him and Phoenix.
Nicole Fox is one of my favorite authors. She creates worlds that you don't want to leave. The characters become like family and you become so invested in their stories. I would 100% recommend Ripped Veil! Any Mafia lover will devoure it and even contemporary romance lovers will love it!

This is a complex mafia read, great characters and story line
This was a totally wonderful read as we saw the start Elyssa who is dressed in a torn wedding dress and is covered in blood and is running for her life, she has lost a large portion of her memory and now she in a conference center of sorts where all kinds of unmentionable things are happening with the lowest of men and women that have been trapped and sold in to sexual enslavement.
As she had run again for her life, she had come across a man known as Phoenix who had actually come to her aid, he is the head of the Bratva and he is trying to kill one of the members of the Astra Tyrannis, a brutal group of people responsible for all kinds of human atrocity including the murder of his young wife and baby son who he is seeking to find justice for.
One year later Phoenix comes across Elyssa again and she is now a mother to a little boy called Theo and it also appears that he is the father of the little both, he has never stopped feeling guilty about the revenge they took by killing his wife and son and now his father-in-law is their focus and he can no longer stand the pain he sees in their eyes.
Charity that had helped Elysse and her son Theo is the only family that she has but now it seem that her family and the cult have found her and they are coming for her, she knows that she has to escape as she may pay with her life if they catch up with her.
There is still so much about that night she has no remembrance of apart from the night she woke up with a paperweight in her hand, the dead body of Father Josiah at her feet and the commune on her trail. She has no idea what went on or why she had started a fire but she knows that it was something evil that was done to her, but the memory has gone.
She had believed that they had forgotten about her but now they have reached out again she knows she cannot simply run, to keep her family safe she has to deal with them and there is no other alternative……
I assure you that you will love every moment of this book it is simply a fantastic read.
I voluntarily received and review an Advanced Reader Copy
I thoroughly enjoyed the book and look forward to reading any future publications; keep up all the great writing.

Part 1 of Phoenix and Elyssa's story

This is a story of obsession and revenge.
Phoenix Kovalyov is the son of Artem and Esme Kovalyov. He was introduced in the 4 book Kovalyov Bratva series, first as an infant, and then a 22 year old trainee under his adopted uncle, Kian O'Sullivan in the fourth book of the series. He was a bright, brave, and driven young man.
This book starts 10 years later. Phoenix has created his own domain in Las Vegas and is don of a thriving Bratva enterprise. He is also bitter and obsessed, seeking to find who murdered his wife and infant son three years ago.
Elyssa Redmond is a young woman who has lived in a cult 2 hours south of Las Vegas. She awakens in a wedding dress with a bloody paperweight in her hand and a dead man at her feet.
She flees the scene and supposedly runs to Vegas, ending up barefoot at a sleazy club. This is obviously inconsistent if the cult is really 2 hours south by car, as she arrives on the Strip that same night that she fled.
Elyssa literally runs into Phoenix, screwing up his Bestva plans. Before they separate, they have sex in a bathroom. Of course, she gets pregnant.
The story gets extremely convoluted, with more chance meetings, lying, and deceit. Through it all, Phoenix is obsessed with bring down the trafficking organization that was responsible for the death of his wife and son. He doesn't act like a Don who is responsible for an enterprise. He acts like an irrational, independent assassin, with no regard for the life of his men, nor will he take advice from his father, his uncle, or his men.
Phoenix is drawn to Elyssa and their son, but he is so guilt driven that he pushes her away.
The book ends with a whirlwind of discoveries.

We continue with the KovaLyov family, in this case, the son of Artem and Esme (the leading couple of the Gilded Cage / Gilded Tears duet), Phoenix, who is the Don of Las Vegas and follows in his family's footsteps to end traffic of people, especially women, until the organization he is persecuting takes revenge on him by killing his wife and son, making his mission now personal. He meets Elyssa when he was going to meet someone who could give him information. And he finds her is the most curious, he meets her in a sex club, dressed as a bride and bloodied. He feels sorry for her and decides to help her and, when they both realized they have already slept together, but she ends up running away from the club with the promise of meeting Phoenix again, but Elyssa meets Charity at that moment, who encourages her to to accompany her to a women's shelter where she remains hidden and safe for a year.
Elyssa has lived her life in a cult, has barely any memories of her past life, and less of the most traumatic night of her life, but she is convinced that she has done something wrong and blames herself for it. .
When the paths of Phoenix and Elyssa cross again, dangers accompany them, since from then on the lives of Elyssa and Charity will turn upside down as they are forced to live hidden in the mansion of the Russian Don, who is not particularly happy, especially after finding out he might have another child, Theo.
I love the characters, the continuous tug of war between Phoenix and Elyssa, the surprises that await us as we read. I'm starting the second part now because I'm dying to know how it all ends.

This was an intense read! Settle in and buckle up. Elyssa wakes up and thinks she has murdered her pastor and future husband. She escapes and ends up in Las Vegas. She stumbles into a sex club and encounters Phoenix who is there for a meeting. Phoenix has been trying to destroy the sex and human traffic ring since they killed is wife and son. He protects her and in the heat of the moment have an intimate encounter. He tells her to run and meet her at a diner. She ends up at a womens shelter and meets her new best friend. Fast forward 1 year and Phoenix shows up at the shelter after following a dirty cop. He captures the cop and rescues Elyssa and her friend and his son. He doesn't quite believe Elyssa that the baby is his but he wants to keep them out of the hands of the human traffic ring. He and Elyssa have electric chemistry and seem to gravitate toward each other. He is a strong personality and is obsessed destroying the people who killed his wife. He suspects Elyssa of being part of it and can't quite trust her. There is so much drama and action. This is not your typical mafia story but it is quite intense. This definitely ends on a cliff hanger and you need to get the second book.

I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

Intense, Emotional, Betrayal, Secrets, Lies

This book is filled with twists and turns. Secrets, lies, betrayal, and so many plot twists you will be dizzy by the end putting everything in place. Elyssa never knew what the real world was like. She was raised in a cult and was promised to Father Josiah. Elyssa has memory loss and doesn’t remember all the horrible things that happened to her. All she knows is that she feels safe when she meets Phoenix. He provides her with everything she was missing but he is distant and closed off due to his wife and sons death. Phoenix has feelings for her but he’s been betrayed and lied in the past and he won’t let anyone in because he fears being hurt again. When he learns that Elyssa is pregnant he won’t let her do this alone but his past doesn’t let him fully let her in. When secrets and lies are revealed all h*ll breaks loose and there is nowhere safe for anyone. Phoenix learns many painful truths from his past and he can’t take it anymore and he lashes out and send Elyssa away. She is now alone and broke trying to keep her son safe. This book ends on a cliffhanger so be prepared for that because who knows what’s going to happen in Book 2! There is no guarantees provided and their world is blown apart with no happiness in sight. Happy Reading!!

5++++++++This was such a good read, a crossover story of a Mafia Don seeking revenge and a young girl groomed and led to believe that the cult she had been raised in and conditioned to follow; were good people, not monsters.

Elyssa and Phoenix's story was such an intense read with so many twist and turns and revelations that the reader was faced with throughout this duet. This series is not for everyone due to the triggers. The monsters in this book were nothing but sadists who lived to enact pain and suffering. Most monsters have two things in common....they have no conscious or empathy for anyone. These guys took that concept to a whole different level of insanity.

The story has so many facets with so many characters such as Charity who is pivotal in this read. Charity is a great character who has been with Elyssa and her son's friend from day one since fleeing the Sanctuary and who single handedly has helped Elyssa to grow into a person who is frantically trying to cut her ties to the the "Sanctuary". Charitie's protectiveness and "straight talk" slowly helps Elyssa to start to find out who she really is and helps her to evolve into the woman she becomes by the end of book 2.

Phoenix is a troubled soul who trusts no one. especially Elyssa. He and Elyssa go back and forth throughout book one like a dance; one step forward and two steps backward. His on again and off again feelings towards Elyssa is a roller coaster ride of emotions, filled with angst and physical attraction that sizzles off the page. It's a rough ride with his knee-jerk changes in personality, in how he treats her and how he still believes she is a spy, even when the real "mole" is revealed at the end of book one. Elyssa saves his life and he still doesn't completely trust her. It's sad at times how this man is so driven by revenge that he can't see anything beyond that. Even his own men who he trusts, can't convince him that the path he is following is self-destructive. He is truly a character that is so bogged down with grief that he is unable to see beyond that.

Elyssa lets Phoenix know that he fathered her son, tries to find her locked away memories and tries to break down some of the barriers that surround she and Phoenix. This book lays the groundwork for book 2 where secrets and painful memories are finally revealed. Phoenix and Elyssa find that their journey started long before they met in Las Vegas at the Sex club and long before their son was conceived. There is plenty of suspense and action that just keeps unveiling new secrets and revelations as the reader follows the clues.

One of the better Mafia duets of 2021.

Enjoy.

Ripped Veil will entrap your mind within its pages!
I couldn’t shut down my brain after finishing this epic cliffhanger wondering what was going to happen to Elyssa!
Elyssa literally wakes up in a nightmare situation with a fuzzy recollection of what happened, and flees to wicked Vegas where she runs in to Phoenix on a mission at the Wild Night Blossom club. What follows is an insta-attraction that won’t be denied. Phoenix gets the two out of the club with the promise to meet up, yet when Shannon meets Charity on the streets, she sets a safer course for Shannon. Phoenix’s unyielding desire to eradicate the syndicate that killed his wife and child knows no limits; so while following a lead to another person of interest linked to the syndicate, he discovers the woman he can’t get out of his mind. Shannon raises all kinds of warning bells for Phoenix, but he still keeps her close. Yet as Phoenix’s doggedly follows clues, Shannon tries to discover her true self. But epic plot twists abound until Phoenix can no longer ignore the warning bells in his mind. You will never expect this blockbuster cliffhanger and will be immediately looking for Ripped Lace in the duet!

I don't normally give a book five stars if it ends in a cliffhanger because in my mind it's not a complete story but this first book in this new series about is Phoenix and Elyssa deserves five stars despite the cliffhanger ending. Phoenix, the Don of the Vegas' Bratva has since the death of his wife and son five years ago been obsessed with obtaining vengeance. Elyssa couldn't be more different from him she's been brought up in a cult, taught to be meek and do as she's told, she's a naïve innocent. But for her everything changes when she wakes up covered in blood on what should have been her wedding day, believing she's killed the man lying close by she flees.

Phoenix and Elyssa meet in a club and both feel an instant attraction his alpha personality makes him feel protective of her so when danger lurks he tells her to run and meet him later at a diner however for some reason she doesn't arrive.

One year later they meet again by chance whatever he was feeling is changed by the news that they have a son, a son who looks just like him!

Roll on book two! I did warn you about the cliffhanger!

This is the 1st in a new series and is Phoenix and Elyssa’s story. Phoenix is the Don of the Bratva in Vegas, but for the past 5-years he is focussed on vengeance for the death of his wife and son. Elyssa is naïve and innocent and was brought up in a sanctuary where she has been taught to be meek ad submissive, and on her wedding day she wakes up covered in blood, and believes she has killed a man, so she runs. When Phoenix and Elyssa cross paths in a club he runs, he is inexplicably drawn to her and feels he needs to protect and keep her safe, and when things go wrong, he tells her to run and meet him at a diner, but she never shows up. Unexpectedly Phoenix and Elyssa cross paths 1-year later, and she has a baby son with her, who looks just like him. Cannot wait to read the 2nd part after that cliffhanger! This is a well written story which is filled with betrayal, emotions, tragedy, secrets, guilt, friendships, danger, suspense, and love. I highly recommend this talented authors’ work for all.
