The Hummingbird Hotel #4

Spring Blooms at the Hummingbird Hotel

Rate this book
Escape to the gorgeous island of Corfu with this wonderfully uplifting romantic comedy, the fourth in a brand-new series from the author of The Cornish Confetti Agency and Villa Limoncello.

Welcome to the Hummingbird Hotel!

When Corfu’s newest hotelier Abbie Coleman is asked to host a Bakes & Beaches retreat for a group of Bake Off enthusiasts from a regional TV and radio station, she knows she needs as much help as she can get. Baking is not her forte, and with cupcakes, traybakes, pastries and showstoppers to co-ordinate – along with a whole host of terrifyingly high-octane water sports – she’s worried that her guests’ culinary creations will be more ‘curdled catastrophes’ than ‘tasty triumphs’. For any successful enterprise, preparation is key, so, along with her new assistant manager and all-round astrological guru Felix Morgan , Abbie sets about preparing a long and detailed To Do list.

But this is the Hummingbird Hotel, and the words ‘straightforward’ and ‘drama-free’ do not feature on the menu. So, when the salted caramel cupcakes are heavier on the salt than the caramel, and a guest’s expensive watch takes an unscheduled dip in the pool, Abbie must once again join forces with chef-turned-vineyard owner – and now fiancé – Nikos Angelopoulos , to unravel the mystery and maintain the hotel’s reputation for delivering beautiful bakes instead of mayhem and mistakes.

Can she turn burnt buns into sumptuous soufflés? Or will her future on Corfu be over before it’s begun?

Let Daisy James whisk you away to gorgeous Corfu with a feel-good festive read filled with sun, sea and a sprinkle of romance. Perfect for fans of Mandy Baggot, Sue Roberts & Sandy Barker.

Praise for the Hummingbird Hotel
Clare Balding

‘What a brilliant concept and a beautiful setting for a life in upheaval. It made me want to fly straight to Corfu, more to drink the wine than to actually try and run a hotel. A great cast of characters, and I thought their foibles and idiosyncrasies were displayed with humour and insight. It was also a reminder to never settle for second best, and be brave enough to embrace change, to completely turn your life around, if that’s what it takes.’

Ginger Book Geek ‘Escape to the Hummingbird Hotel was just the tonic I needed and I found myself chuckling away to myself throughout the book.’
Kel M. ‘This story will instantly lift your spirits and transport you to a gorgeous sunny location, a total breath of fresh air that left me feeling serene and eager to read more about the adventures of Abbie.’
Rachel Gilbey ‘I just loved everything about this book, it had me hooked and eager to absorb every last word.’

Daisy James loves writing stories with strong heroines and swift-flowing plot-lines. She especially likes to create sunshine-filled settings in exotic locations - the Caribbean, Tuscany, Cornwall, Provence - so she can spend her time envisioning her characters enjoying the fabulous scenery and sampling the local food and drink.

When not scribbling away in her peppermint-and-green summerhouse (garden shed), she spends her time sifting flour and sprinkling sugar and edible glitter. She loves gossiping with friends over a glass of something fizzy or indulging in a spot of afternoon tea - china plates and teacups are a must.

It was so good to be able to return to the Hummingbird Hotel.

I should start by saying that although I had read the first book in the series, I then haven't read 2 and 3, so this as book 4,I can safely say can be read as a standalone. Or at least don't be worried if you haven't read the entire series to date, although I'm sure I've missed out on other great books.

How I loved being back in Corfu and amongst familiar faces, as we see Abbie host a Bakes and Beaches retreat for a group of TV people. Of course as I've come to expect there is a slight mystery occurring, with some sabotage afoot as well.

I enjoyed getting to know the people on the retreat, as well as seeing Abbie attempting to bake!

I was just hooked on everything to do with the book, the gorgeous food, which is a Daisy James trademark, in addition to a glorious location, again something I've come to expect from her books, there is a nod to one of her others series too, which I was also really happy to spot.

This is just really enjoyable light hearted escapism and caught my rapidly waning attention span, far more than any other book I've read in the past couple of weeks! It was just what I needed!

Thank you to Daisy James for this copy which i have reviewed honestly and voluntarily.

I have been a fan of Daisy’s work for a while now. She has written quite a lot of books and I am busy catching up with her earlier work as well as keeping pace with her new releases. I can honestly say that I have really enjoyed every book of Daisy’s that I have read to date. I read the synopsis for ‘Spring Blooms At The Hummingbird Hotel’ and it certainly sounded like the sort of book I have come to expect from Daisy – a fun, entertaining, light hearted and ultimately heart warming story. Well it was all that and more. I really enjoyed reading ‘Spring Blooms At The Hummingbird Hotel’ but more about that in a bit.
As soon as I started to read, I instinctively knew that I wouldn’t be able to put this book down for very long at all. It was a rather soggy day in County Durham and so I felt in need of a pick me up. Well this book picked me up and then some. I instantly felt as though I had been transported to sunnier climes which brought a smile to my face. To say that reading this book became addictive is a bit of an understatement. My Kindle wasn’t exactly glued to my hand but it might as well have been because it travelled everywhere with me. I just couldn’t bear to miss a single second of the story. The more of the book that I read, the more I wanted to read and the quicker the pages seemed to turn. I soon got to the end of ‘Spring Blooms At The Hummingbird Hotel’ and I had to say goodbye to the hotel and it’s guests. I found ‘Spring Blooms At The Hummingbird Hotel’ to be a joy to read and the ideal book to read if you are feeling a bit low. I can guarantee that this book will put a smile on your face.
‘Spring Blooms At The Hummingbird Hotel’ is superbly written but then I have come to expect nothing less from Daisy James. Daisy certainly knows how to grab the reader’s attention and draw them into what proves to be a delightful story. Daisy clearly cares about her characters and this shines through in the very vivid and realistic way in which she describes them. She describes them so well that they seem just as real as you and I. The reader can’t help but become wrapped up in the lives and loves of the different characters. I love the way in which the author makes the reader feel as though they are part of the story and at the heart of all the action.
In short, I thoroughly enjoyed reading ‘Spring Blooms At The Hummingbird Hotel’ and I would recommend it to other readers. ‘Spring Blooms At The Hummingbird Hotel’ is the fourth book in the ‘Hummingbird Hotel’ series and I very much look forward to reading the next book in the series. The score on the Ginger Book Geek board is a very well deserved 5* out of 5*.

Missing your taste of beautiful sunshine?
Are days in the warm sun, something you pine?
Then give yourself a virtual treat and off you go
To Corfu and the Hummingbird Hotel!

This is the fourth story in this delightful set
And, personally, think it is the best one yet!
With Abbie endeavouring to try to bake
You just know it's going to be a mistake!

You've heard of folks who can burn water?
For whom baking is something they never ought to?
Well, that's hotelier, Abby, but she'll give it a go
To support her guests, she just can't say, "No!"

Get ready for cupcakes, traybakes, pastries and more
Tempting treats your imagination will adore.
But mischief is happening again, as the story unfolds,
Can she and Nikos stop it before the perpetrator is too bold?

Get ready for romance, laughter, baking and fun
All happening under the warm Corfu sun.
With characters who feel like you get to know
As the Bakes and Beaches retreat is given a go.

This is a delightful, lovely story and have to say
I hope you'll give it a go some day.
For my complementary copy of this book, I say thank you,
I throughly enjoyed reading it and this is my honest review.

It was wonderful to return to Corfu and to catch up with Abbie at the Hummingbird Hotel. As you might expect if you are a fan of the series, things don't run smoothly and there are some hilarious moments during the bake off with some great characters. As with all humour, however, it is enhanced when confronted by the more serious. Each of the guests seem to have their own secrets and worries, which are resolved in a spectacular finale. I only wish I could be reading this, sitting by a pool in Greece.

I read this for the Popsugar Challenge 22 prompt #19 "a book that takes place during your favorite season". I enjoy this series because of the setting on the island of Corfu, and the involvement of eccentric characters, food, and flowers. In this one Abbie is having all sorts of problems with self esteem, but fortunately her fiancé and friends reassure her by the end. This series is enough to make you want to head off for a Greek island.

was to return to the beautiful island of Corfu. Abbie Coleman, the unexpected hotelier for the Hummingbird Hotel after she inherited the beautiful location, is running a Bakes and Beaches retreat for a group of colleagues. As anticipated, nothing ever runs smoothly at the Hummingbird Hotel! With ruined baking and swimming watches, Abbie must turn sleuth to work out exactly what is happening amongst the guests at her beloved hotel!

We are back with Abbie, her fiancé Nikos and her friends on the beautiful island of Corfu. If you have been following this series, you will know that Abbie's true passion is floral artistry, and in Spring Blooms at the Hummingbird Hotel she is looking to see if she can get back to doing what she loves, creating floral masterpieces for local hotels and businesses. With so much on her mind, Abbie is pulled in multiple directions as she seeks to run a successful hotel, achieve her floral ambitions whilst also attempting to become part of Nikos' family if she can ever get them to meet her.

This is a great addition to the Hummingbird Hotel series. I love the setting in Corfu, and Daisy James never fails to really bring to life both the hotel and Nikos' vineyard. You can really imagine yourself wandering amongst the vines, or relaxing by the pool. The Bakes and Beach retreat sounded fabulous, with all the characters really emerging from the pages as well rounded individuals. I really enjoyed this novel and am more than happy to recommend it to you all - make sure that you make time to pick up the other novels in this fabulous series too!

Thank you Rachel’s random resources and Daisy James for gifting me a digital copy of spring blooms at the hummingbird hotel in exchange for an honest review. In spring blooms at the hummingbird hotel we follow Abbie and Nikos as they prepare for a bales and beaches retreat at their quirky Corfu hotel. I really loved this book; it was filled with humour and warmth that had me smiling throughout. I learnt at the end that this is part of an ongoing series and is in fact book 4. I can’t wait to go back and read the other books as I really enjoyed the style of writing Daisy James uses and the depth of her characters. I really wish I could go and visit the hummingbird hotel in Corfu.

It's good to be back at the Hummingbird Hotel, things have moved on a bit since I was last here, in book one, but this is a great standalone read. Abbie is hosting a bake-off. The characters are complex and relatable, and there is a good mix of humour and mystery. The lovely setting and vivid descriptions make this a fun, uplifting read. It's the perfect book to escape from an English winter.

I received a copy of this book from the author in return for an honest review.

My Thoughts:
This was just the story I needed to read right now. There was food great views and beaches and a little bit of mystery. I really enjoyed the characters in this story but could there be some sabotaging going on from some of them. This is book 4 in this series but can be read as a standalone. If your in the mood to read about delicious food and beautiful views try reading this it will lift you up

It’s back to the Hummingbird Hotel in lovely Corfu with Abby, Nikos, and all the other characters I’ve grown to love in this series. Abby is hosting a Cakes and Bakes competition and, as I’ve learned to expect, there are some disasters along the way and a mystery to solve.

It also continues the sweet romance between Abby and Nikos. Abby thinks she might be having problems with Nikos’ family. And, Abby reaches a turning point in her career as a florist. These plot lines add interest to the story and kept me turning pages.

This is a sunny, lighthearted read, and can easily be read as a stand alone. But the whole series is so much fun you should probably just read them all. Daisy James writes beautiful descriptions of the island, the hotel, the vineyard, and the gardens that make you feel like you’re there! Oh, and the food sounds amazing. I’m always hungry when I’m reading these books.

This series inspired me to plan a trip to Corfu next year. But, even if you can’t get away to Greece this book will make you feel like you’ve just visited the island.
