For such a small book, this is packed with interesting and comprehensive information. This volume covers the development of the meso American cultures, from prehistoric up until the period of the Spanish conquest. The focus is largely upon Ancient Mexico as the title suggests. Art, education, religion, architecture, counting dress, food customs and other important facets of daily life in ancient mexico are well documented. While certainly beyond the mere novice level, his would be a good generic read prior to tackling some of the more complex and erudite studies on the topic.

This book was a decent inrtoduction for the various peoples of Ancient Mexico, and the grouping of the chapters based on a topic such as architecture or clothing, was really great. The age of the book does show at times when the author speaks of current archaeological efforts but overall it doesn't detract too much from the narrative.
