I'm reviewing this as a non-photographer who has never read any other photography books, so take it for what it's worth. He says in the beginning that it's basically a summary of his other books, with some updates (and I'm realizing that this book's being published in 2000 will mean that it needs updating and that no one will be interested in it at this point). Not knowing jack about the technicalities, it still seems to be a relevant source for tips. I will say that there are some parts that were too technical for me to understand, and other parts that taught things that I thought a 10-year-old would figure out on their own, like using a flash if the subject is backlit. The technical parts were few and far between, and so this book is still very useful for beginners, I think. Then you can read more in depth about what certain things mean, elsewhere (and also in the glossary). The written portions of the book are short captions (basically) anyway, the bulk of the material being made up of beautiful photos. So it's a good book to have handy in a spot where you might have time to read a few pages at a time without getting deep into a story or complex description, if you know what I mean.
Loved this. Lots of great, easy to read and follow tips on shooting in all different situations. Wildlife-portraits-cities-light-dark lots! Especially good tips on daylight fill-in flash. Great photograph examples too. Just like having a friend with you to give you tips.
I checked this out from my library because it is what was available. In doing so, I knew some of the information about DSLR would feel outdated simply because the technology keeps growing. There are still many helpful tips. I really liked the format, though there were parts that still felt super technical to a newbie like me.
