Celia Saber’s dirty little secret might just expose her to a serial killer.
The most daring thing Celia Saber does these days is eat spaghetti while wearing a white suit. The 40-something single mom is too busy working and cleaning up the messes of her adult twin sons. She doesn’t have time for "happy ever after,” much less another wanton weekend with Flint Mendota, the man who made all her dirty desires come true.
He remains a forbidden memory until Celia is accused of murdering her abusive ex-husband.
Tough guy Flint adores Celia, even though he knows she’s too good for him. He’d do anything to clear her name, even taking a road trip to the last place on Earth he wants to go. A place steeped in scandalous secrets from his past.
Flint will have to spill those secrets and risk his passionate, happy ending to save Celia from a serial killer.
ROCK, SABER, SCISSORS is the first book in the Saber Sisters Series. These are related standalone books that straddle the line between romantic suspense and romantic comedy.
They contain: ★ Brazen over-40 heroines ★ Happy ever after ★ Salty language ★ Sassy comebacks ★ Steamy scenes that will make you want to delve into ONE MORE… CHAPTER!

Dawn creates colorful characters, with a southern twist. They are like family, I hope Dawn will keep on writing. I love to read more of her books.
I was so excited to be able to read an early copy of book 1 in the new Saber Sister series from Dawn Dugle. I enjoyed Wysdom and Luke’s books and have been looking forward to what was on tap for Celia. I was not disappointed.
Celia is a strong and fierce ICE agent. But her adult sons are driving her insane and then her ex-husband is murdered. And after a very public sparring that ended with her throwing a kitchen knife at his feet, she’s the number one suspect.
Flint has had a thing for Celia for awhile. But he works for her brother and if she knew about his past, she wouldn’t want anything to do with him anyway. But chemistry is a funny thing and it explodes when they are together. And with Luke helping take care of the new babies, he’s tasked with helping Celia find who murdered her husband.
Forced proximity and a trip back to his hometown will have you laughing and wanting more. Dawn’s sense of humor amidst the serious times is refreshing. Can’t wait to see what’s up next for the Saber sisters.
Holy smokes this was a great read. It was laugh-out-loud funny with perfect sassy wit. Balancing the mystery with a side of action, beside a spicy romantic comedy? That's serious talent. Well done, Dawn Dugle. Well done!
Flelia forever! Two words: shower scene.. I loved the sensible, always-in-control heroine meets lovable mountain of muscle. Both characters have such depth to them that it made their relationship very compelling and I was rooting for them the whole way. Plus, it was just entertaining to imagine a Samoan family in Oxford Mississippi. They got along famously. Team Flelia will have you laughing and fanning yourself from first page to last.
Im a new fan of this author, shes great. I recently read and reviewed a Flamingo Cove book, now this book in a related series. Great characters and story, the fast action kept me turning pages! No spoilers, go read the book!
Unexpected action, love amid chaos and brotherhood makes every page exciting and breath stealing. With a strong uncompromising woman and man trying to save her and sisters backing her every move this book leaves you smiling and giggling and sighing!
1.5 ⭐ Flint & Celia: triggers- drugs, infidelity, family discord. this book was nuts and not necessarily in a good way. first, this book got switched to a read and listen free through KU. and I just have to say to any and all authors, if you're going to put your books on audio... HIRE A FREAKING NARRATOR! this AI narrator and virtual voice crap is terrible. I didn't know how many times the virtual voice pronounced the SAME word 5 different ways, like "lalelei" which granted I don't think, unless you're a Pacific Islander, any of us would know how to pronounce but seriously. and that wasn't the only word. like "lead" was either pronounced like "I'll lead you to the path.." or pronounced like the metal. as for the book itself... 🤦🏾♀️🤦🏾♀️🤦🏾♀️ I can't even. I did finish it but it took a lot for me to do so. I have never read a book where majority of the characters were just completely unlikeable. Celia... okay the way she avoided cursing by using alternative words like Sugar Honey Ice Tea, Shut the front door, Son of a biscuit eater was only cute so many times, considering she was in her mid to late 40s, possibly early 50s; but the fact that the author continued with this easy if speaking throughout the book, stopped being funny and just got annoying. second, for someone who's supposed to be genius level like Celia is, her speech is very immature. she makes up words like "stick-ectomy" and "head-ectomy". I just felt like she was missing that level of maturity you get with a divorced mother of adult twin boys. speaking of... the twins were complete douche canoes, jerks, brats and Celia had absolutely no control over them because they walked all over her from jump. and she's supposed to be a Hispanic woman .. I have NEVER seen a child speak to their Hispanic mother or treat her the way these two did and still lived to the the tale because are you breaking crazy (exaggerating, but am I?). not that I missed them but am this stuff is going on with Celia and where are those boys..M.I.A. the author doesn't mention them again until the end. WTF. there are some laugh out loud funny moments in the book but then there are moments where the author was trying too hard to be funny and for me it just fell flat. I also felt like there was too much going on .. like there were different conflicts within the book and not much resolution. I wish I could say that I liked this story but I really did not. and to push me over the edge, there were a lot of spelling and grammatical errors, the virtual voice was not reading words correctly, the failed attempt at humor, "clean cursing" just was all too much for me to read this author again without some considerable time for me to forget this one. 🤦🏾♀️🤦🏾♀️🤦🏾♀️
This romantic suspense story begins a new trilogy within the author's world. Celia Saber is in her early 40s and has two grown sons and an ex who delights in causing trouble for her.
When her sons trick her into a meeting with her ex, he is his usual self and plays his usual tune: he wants the trust fund that she had before they were married. When she objects, her sons, who are definitely pro-dad, leave her stranded at the venue without her purse or her phone.
She makes a call to Flint Mendota who works for her brother's security firm and with whom she had a brief fling. Flint, who fell completely in love with her, is quick to come to her rescue. Celia is something of a control freak and feels that her feelings for Flint wreck her control. But the sparks fly anyway.
When her ex-husband is found murdered, Celia finds herself at the top of the list of suspects. Octavio Cruz's current wife and business partner both have iron-clad alibis. And when it is learned that Celia is the heir to all of her husband's belongings, it looks even more likely that she killed him.
Celia is put on leave from her job with ICE until her ex's murder is solved. Flint is quick to add himself to the investigation and the two begin checking alibis and looking for suspects...and fighting their attraction to each other. Well, Celia is fighting it. Flint is willing to go all in.
Each chapter alternates between Flint and Celia's point of view and, occasionally, I had to look back at the chapter heading - along with the cute quote - to figure out which character was the "I" since their voices seemed so similar to me.
This is a spicy romance with quite a bit of humor. Fans of that sort of story will enjoy this book.
Rounded up to a 4, but just barely. In the Flamingo series the Saber Sisters seemed very tough, go getters, don’t take anything from anyone type of people. Celia works with ICE, she’s top-notch. So, I didn’t expect her character to play out the way it did. For me she didn’t seem so tough. Maybe because it was her no cussing rule or how soft she was with her boys or even the way she initially handled her situationship with Flint. Something about her in this book nagged me. However, it was the opposite with Flint. I loved his character development. He shows why he’s Luke right hand man. Although, I must say there wasn’t, as much crime fighting as there was in the Flamingo series. More so… a sort of trying to sort out a middle-age situationship turned relationship? (maybe…) And not knowing what to call it, romance read. With a sprinkle of drama and small town scandal on top.
I’d still recommend because I found myself literally laughing out loud at a handful of parts in the story.
Flint and Celia take a while to get past their past and the baggage they have in their lives to realize they belong together. Nothing else matters. They become entwined in solving murders, attempted murders, embezzlement, investigations and a host of criminal activities that have to be dealt with before their HEA. But they get there….eventually. Loved the story! Thanks , Dawn, for another good book!
This was a cute read and fast paced. I enjoyed the mystery/suspense aspect. It was fun to see things fall into place. The sass and humor from the leads was great. It just didn't press all of the right buttons for me and I think that's more because of my personal preferences. The chapters felt on the shorter side so at times the story felt a little choppy to me. Overall though, a fun and quick read.
Rock, Saber, Scissors by Dawn Dugle. (Saber Sisters #1)
A nice romantic suspense/romantic comedy story with likeable characters and a solid plot. I liked the main characters of Celia Saber the 40-something single mom who is working and cleaning up the messes of her adult twin sons and tough guy Flint Mendota who adores Celia, but works for her brother and does not think he is good enough for her. A series of madcap events and situations forces the 2 main characters to spend time in his home town and at the end of this book get their Happy Ever After. A fun quick read. 3 stars.
I really enjoy romantic suspense, and this book was recommended, as such, but this is way more romantic comedy, than suspense. I just wanted more of a serious read, and this just didn’t work for me. If you love romantic comedy, and are mostly about the laughs, then you’ll probably enjoy this book, but I wanted something else. I DNF’d at 42%.
A fun adventure with wacky and quirky characters, that keep you on your toes! As they try to figure out who the murderer is, and just how many people have been murdered! The count keeps climbing! Will they figure out who before they strike again? Is it to late to find true love and solve the murder? We,, …..
This is a fun romance. Celia and Flint are not your everyday romance characters. They are older, wiser and have a lot of life experiences.
I like how bold she is. She has an amazing take-charge attitude and he is a soft hearted tough man. Together, they make an awesome couple as they tackle the murder of her ex-husband. Let the adventure begin!!
When Celia’s husband is found murdered, Flint has the perfect opportunity to show her she doesn’t have to clean up after everyone by herself. His boss, Celia’s brother, will come around eventually, right?
When I started this I wasn't sure if I was going to like it but it turned out to be a good story. It has a good story line and the h's thought and dialogue are very entertaining. H has a.past to overcome but is such a goo guy.
I love the characters. They are made for each other. The mystery, romance and humor makes this book hard to put down. I look forward to reading the next book in the series.
Romance level: multiple open doors Can skip bedroom stuff, but there's a lot of skipping. Early to bed. Not much focus on the lead in. Missing if you didn't read earlier stories. Mystery story was very good and some fun twists.
Complex relationships unscramled with comedy and incitefulness. Inventive twists on old sayings while deciphering the mysteries of the murders. Characters face and conquer pain betrayal and sorrow of past lives
This was a great read I loved it! I loved the fact that they were older the suspense was off the charts l could not wait to see who did what. Fantastic is all I can say!!!
