Written by Harish Damodaran, the book Broke to Breakthrough, The rise of India's largest private dairy company is the journey of R.G. Chandramogan and his company Hatsun Agro Products (HAP), starting as an ice candy manufacturer in an already saturated market to becoming a Rs 5,500 Crore Company.

This book is a must-read for anyone who is an entrepreneur or aspires to be one. Also, for people who have careers in Fast Moving Consumer Goods or Operations Management.

What I found most interesting was that the book does not paint a partial rosy picture by stating high digit sales, but talks in-depth about working capital, taxes, supply chain management, forward and backward integration, which are common trouble points for budding businesses.

My reading experience would have been even better if there was more light was shed on the analysis of the mistakes that were done in the pursuit of expansion and learnings that were hence gained.

Especial mention to the last chapter talking about the impact of lockdown on the business model and the managing strategies adopted by the company on such a short note.

A decent book on India’s largest private dairy company.
Very poor choice of author. It does not look like a biography. A journalist writing a book does that.
So many numbers and data. Pretty unnecessary.
For me the good part was understanding the survival of entrepreneur -Chandramogan - who persevered through his 50 years of working life.

Wouldn’t recommend it to anyone outside the dairy world.

Very good book which walks you through how Mr Changramogan's set up path breaking activities at Hatsun Agro and created a solid brand.

I just wish the author had documented countless numbers in a tabular format than just in a paragraph manner.

It offers a concise exploration of the Indian dairy industry. The book provides a factual account of the company's chronological evolution rather than weaving a narrative, making it a relatively dry read. It is however informative to learn about one of India's premier dairy companies.

A decent account of the Hatsun / Arun brand journey in India. Lot of focus on procurement.

The book primarily talks about the journey of rg Chandramogan sir who ran hatsun for the past 50 years and making it what it is now
My two takeaway from this book are:-
1. Importance of frugality ( thrift)
2. Creating economic moats
3. Significance of product differentiation and innovation
