Raccoon is bored and decides to cheer himself up by baking an apple cake, but he's out of eggs. He remembers his friend Fox has eggs and heads to her house, but when he gets there, she needs a favor too. And so they set out on their errand, which turns into another trip, then another, and another! A merry band of friends is eventually assembled and they, quite unintentionally, wind up having a lovely day together.

This is a sweet, quiet book with a nice message about unexpected joys and finding pleasure in small things. The friends all had things to do, but found that they had the best time sharing the day together and helping each other out. The illustrations enhance the story nicely and have lots of fun details for readers to pick out. This would be a nice quiet-time read for preschool and early elementary.

Many thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review!

This delightful book will warm hearts as kids become part of a beautiful summer's day shared with five animals friends. Racoon is bored and decides to bake his favourite apple cake which he believes will dissipate his boredom. He discovers he's fresh out of eggs. Oh no! His friend Fox owns chickens so off he goes to borrow some eggs from her. When he arrives Fox is hard at work repairing a leaky roof but is having a difficult time reaching it. Raccoon suggests they go to Badger's house to borrow his ladder which will hopefully solve Fox's problem.

Badger needs help too solving a crossword puzzle so the three friends set off to find Bear. Along the way the trio encounter crow and the friends manage to have a delicious snack of blackberries en route.

They find Bear fishing alone by the river. Unfortunately the fish aren't biting... not even a nibble. Never letting a moment go to waste the five friends decide to dive into the river and have a blast. Swimming together is so much fun and it feels great to cool off on this hot muggy day. After a lovely swim they dry out basking in the sunlight and as evening approaches they head off for home.

The friends help Fox mend her roof using Badger's ladder then they gather some eggs from her chicken coup to bake that mouth-watering apple cake that Raccoon will provide. Raccoon doesn't bake just one cake but TWO CAKES. One cake is for Fox, Raccoon, Badger and Crow to share. Lucky Bear gets his very own cake. Can you guess why?

This heartwarming book is about friendship, teamwork and the fun five friends have as they interact together throughout a magical summer's day. The illustrations are fantastic and I must admit my favourite style. They are beautifully detailed and work perfectly with the storyline. I love the book and highly recommend "A Perfect Wonderful Day with Friends".

A PERFECT WONDERFUL DAY WITH FRIENDS is a sweet picture book about friendship. Raccoon is bored and decides it is time to bake an apple cake. However, he's out of eggs. He knows that Fox has eggs, so he goes over to ask him. However, Fox is struggling to repair her roof, because she needs a ladder. Badger has a ladder, so they head over, but Badger is working on a crossword about honey. Bear knows about honey, so they set out to find Bear. On each step of the way, the animals think about how perfect it is while they are spending time with each other. They finish their day completing all the tasks before making apple cakes.

What I loved: This is such a sweet story about the magic of friendship. The book captures all the fun of simply spending time with those we are close with and going with the flow. This is a very soothing read with the animals going with the flow on each step of the way and finding happiness in shared experiences. They all ultimately have the goals of helping each other, and it's great to see how they end their day by making sure each of them gets the help they needed with shared tasks. The illustrations are colorful and lush, bringing each of their houses and personalities to life.

The amount of text on each page is great for toddlers, preschoolers, and elementary school readers. The pages turn as quickly as the reader would like, with several short ones to keep it moving quickly. Details in the images give children plenty to explore as they read.

Final verdict: A lovely story of friendship, A PERFECT WONDERFUL DAY WITH FRIENDS is a softly told and gentle picture book that will work well for young readers.

Raccoon wants to bake a cake, so he walks over to Fox's house to borrow some eggs. But Fox is trying to repair her roof, and needs a ladder. So they walk together over to Badger's house to borrow a ladder. Badger is trying to solve a crossword puzzle with a clue about honey, so they join Crow in looking for Bear down by the river. Bear will know the answer to a clue about honey. Bear is fishing, but the fish are not biting. Will the friends ever manage to complete all their tasks? Only if they work together!

This is such a cute story! I loved the way each task kept piling on top of each other until the friends finally retrace their steps and do their tasks together. They realize they have spent a perfect day together doing fun things and helping each other. There is something so satisfying about the conclusion to all the tasks.

It's so sweet how the friends all take time to appreciate the activities they are doing with their friends. They just really enjoy spending time together!

The illustrations are so beautiful! I love the graceful style of the artwork and the lovely colors. The ink style has such delicate little strokes outlining each leaf and blade of grass. There are so many pretty details in the background of each scene that make the art really special. I had to stop and look at some of the pages for a little minute to appreciate all the details!

I'm not the most spontaneous person since I tend to prefer having everything planned out beforehand. But even I can see the delights in the "perfect wonderful day" described in this picture book. When Raccoon can't find any other way to deal with his doldrums, he decides baking an apple cake might suffice. However, since he has no eggs, he heads to Fox's house to borrow some. Fox is busy with roof repairs, but they are slow going since he has no ladder and is balanced precariously on various chairs and tables. Off they go to Badger's to borrow what is needed. He's preoccupied with a crossword puzzle, and they head to Bear's for a solution. Eventually, the friends are joined by Crow, and they spend the day fishing and swimming and just enjoying each other's company. All those planned tasks are left until the end of the day when all of the friends join in helping each other and rewarding themselves with yummy baked goods. With its softly-colored illustrations showing the personality of each animal and their activities, this picture book is a gentle reminder to slow down and enjoy what life has to offer or stop and smell the roses in other words. There's a sweet earnestness about the text and images and the notion that there is delight in the unexpected. Eventually, that work will get done. Yes, that's true although rather hard for someone like me to believe.

This sweet picture book starts off with raccoon who is feeling bored and progressively adds more of raccoon's friends as the day goes on. Quickly raccoon and his friends are no longer bored as they have found many fun things to do such as swimming, fishing, and rock climbing. By the end of the day the friends have enjoyed each other's company and remark on what a perfect wonderful day it was. It is a nice, simple story that is easy to follow and emphasizes the importance of spending time with friends and curing boredom by "doing things". It is beautifully illustrated and I can definitely see it being a nice book choice for parents or teachers of children in the age 3-8 range. Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for giving me the chance to read and review this book!

Raccoon is bored, so he goes over to Fox’s house to see what she’s doing. Fox needs a ladder for a roof repair, so the two go to Badger’s house, then, joined by Crow, they all go to Bear’s house. They find Bear fishing at the river nearby. No one has any luck catching a fish, so Raccoon, Fox, Badger, Crow and Bear all have a swim, then they lie in the sun and do a crossword puzzle. Finally, they go back to Raccoon’s house, where the story started, and bake apple cake.

This delightful, meandering tale is the perfect story for a lazy, slightly boring summer day. Waechter’s cinematic illustrations, made with black ink fine line pens and then colored with pen and crayon, are just lovely. Each animal is clothed according to personality – slouchy Raccoon wears a plaid shirt, hardworking Fox has on red overalls, Badger wears a suit, befitting an older gentleman, and Bear has on denim coveralls. (Crow just has feathers on, for ease of flying.) I loved the luminous colors, applied with sponges, especially as the sun dips lower. This is a winning picture book that is sure to inspire adventures on the lazy days of summer.

There is often nothing more lovely than spending a day with those who fill your life with special. These people need not be family rather your friends. In this rapturous romp through the woods, we follow Racoon’s quest to bust his boredom by visiting his friend Fox (who always has eggs because she has chickens). Fox is too busy to entertain him, requiring the aid of Badger’s ladder so off they troop to Badger’s house and on it goes. One delightful juxtaposition of fate follows the other as this incongruous band of buddies blossoms to five who despite never quite fulfilling their original intentions, enjoy a perfect, wonderful day together. Bubbling with subtle humour and harmonious purpose, this is tale of friendship not to be missed.

This 2021 book from New Zealand was translated into English in 2022 & is the most perfect wonderful little story! While the plot may not be the most original (woodland animals needing something from each other resulting in a build-up of hilarity).

What struck me the most was the lovely illustrations ~ softly colored, original renderings of the animals in fresh ways. No primary colors of overly cute, overly drawn animals filling every bit of the page!! The colors, text, illustrations & story itself exude a soothing calm & peace. I literally closed the book quietly when I finished it!!

A perfectly wonderful day indeed—IF you’re one of the species that’s worthy of being included in this circle of friends that have adopted human ways of being in the world, such as wearing clothes, cooking, using tools, living in houses, and speaking English (unlike the chickens and fish, which are mute and used as food sources). Whimsical illustrations conjure enchanting scenarios that gloss over these paradoxes and camouflage racist tropes, rendering them quite charming.

Raccoon is lonely and decides to visit a friend. One by one the group gathers together and spends the day having fun. This is a cute book showing kids how important friends are. Being with friends can brighten our day and the more the merrier.

Thank you NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review this book.

This is a simple and sweet story. One friend needs help and seeks another friend. But they want/need something else and seek another friend. It builds from there, and then unwinds in the opposite direction. It just works. It can be a bit wordy, but that isn’t really noticed. The illustrations are nice and not typical of picture books adding to the joy of the story.

I feel like children don't know how to be bored anymore and use their creativity and imaginations to find things to do. This celebrates the magic that can happen when you don't have your whole day planned out and allow for anything to happen! A wonderful book.

Read it with my almost 4 year old and we enjoyed it one time but it has not become a favorite. It's a cute story about helping friends and we really enjoyed the artwork which was spot on for the story.
