Diferentes modos de existência

What relation is there between the existence of a work of art and that of a living being? Between the existence of an atom and that of a value like solidarity? These questions become our own each time a reality—whether it is a piece of music, someone we love, or a fictional character—is established and begins to take on an importance in our lives. Like William James or Gilles Deleuze, Souriau methodically defends the thesis of an existential pluralism. There are indeed different manners of existing and even different degrees or intensities of existence: from pure phenomena to objectivized things, by way of the virtual and the “super-existent,” to which works of art and the intellect, and even morality, bear witness. Existence is polyphonic, and, as a result, the world is considerably enriched and enlarged. Beyond all that exists in the ordinary sense of the term, it is necessary to allow for all sorts of virtual and ephemeral states, transitional realms, and barely begun realities, still in the making, all of which constitute so many “inter-worlds.”

Souriau is master of analogy. He has the uncommon talent of being able to simplify the extremely complex (for which, being an intermediate student of philosophy, I'm indebted), while maintaining a lyrical mode of discourse.

Até tentei pensar e escrever uma resenha desse livro mas realmente não sei o que dizer. A investigação de Soriau é interessantíssima, instigante e profundamente cética sobre seus próprios trajetos, mas não consigo fechar uma conclusão sobre seu pensamento. Talvez por sua errância, talvez por sua recusa à formular suas próprias conclusões e sistematizações. Os problemas são colocados de forma excelente, e a pluralidade dos modos de existência é, sem dúvidas, um campo conceitual a ser tensionado. Mas não consigo apontar Qual o Ponto de Soriau. Há diversos trechos brilhantes, mas sinto que o livro se perde em suas incursões. Gostaria muito que outros que leram me dessem suas opiniões, porque pra mim, nessa primeira leitura, o argumento não desceu. A unificação pela noção de sobre-existência me soou mal justificada, a discussão sobre a Obra é riquíssima e por vezes brilhante mas incomoda a ausência de discutir Trabalho (algo latente na discussão apenas), a questão valorativa dos modos de existência é estranha.
Fica a dúvida se fui eu que não entendi ou se o autor que não soube se explicar. I mean, a leitura não é especialmente difícil. Ele é até bem didático, e explica bem suas incursões. Mas seus argumentos e conclusões são opacos, torna-se um trabalho de anatomista explorar o Porquê do pluralismo de Soriau. Analogias e analogias embolam o conteúdo: me pergunto se há algo por trás da bagunça.
Claro e confuso. Por vezes, prefiro o contrário: obscuro e distinto.
Enfim, leitura estimulante e intrigante, mas por vezes frustrante.

Um troféu Joinha para quem desenvolveu o design deste livro. A capa vem com um papel alumínio colado que vai se desfazendo toda a vez que tocamos nele, espalhando pedaços pela capa. Uau, conceitual! Mas nada prático. Já o conteúdo do livro é uma filosofia hardcore praticamente inteligível numa primeira leitura. Talvez na terceira. Fui atrás deste livro porque alguns outros livros tinham citado o autor, Étienne Souriau, como uma referência para o estudo das identidades. Contudo, ao ler o livro, não gostei nada da forma como ele é escrito e da forma como o texto é apresentado. Deve ser por isso que ele precisava de uma capa conceitual assim.
