In this cowboy romance, young love is given a second—and final—chance.
Over the passing years, Rancher Colt McLeod never stopped loving Marlee Fox, but she has refused to speak to him since high school. On a not-so-accidental encounter, he captures her attention and the promise of a dance.
Marlee falls in love with Colt all over again but knows she can’t take another heartbreak like the first. If he betrays her trust one more time, they are over forever.
The girl who broke up Colt and Marlee has returned to the small town of King Creek. Now a grown woman, she stalks him and turns her vengeful attention on Marlee.
Colt will do everything in his power to protect Marlee, even if it means pushing her away to keep her safe.
Cheyenne McCray fell in love with reading and writing early, deciding in kindergarten that one day she would become an author. Today, she is an award-winning New York Times and USA Today bestselling fiction author who’s sold millions of books worldwide. Having published more than 100 novels and novellas in contemporary and paranormal romance, urban fantasy and romantic suspense, she is now also writing cozy mysteries as Deb Ries.
Chey grew up on a ranch in southeastern Arizona and delights in creating stories of suspense, love, and redemption with characters and worlds her readers can get lost in. Chey and her equally geeky husband live with their two dogs, six ducks (the neighborhood celebrities), and a small flock of chickens in a small Arizona town where she enjoys gardening, crazy quilting and, of course, writing.
It’s incredible to me that this has an average of 4 stars. I read this on Apple Books which may account for the editing, but jeez. How ironic that the main character is an editor and this book has a borage of errors… don’t waste your time. The entire book is too on the nose, the plot is entirely hurried, and it read like a 14 year old’s Wattpad fan fiction. I’m not entirely convinced that it wasn’t.
Marlee Fox and Colt McLeod are looking for second chances. They were boyfriend/girlfriend in high school, but Colt was caught kissing another girl and that relationship ended. It's been several years and Marlee has done everything she can to avoid him and has never spoken to him since. Trust is a hard thing to earn ....
But Colt is nothing, if not determined to get another chance with the woman he's never forgotten. A contrived meeting between the two lead to another first date.. and then to another.
There seems to be a woman following Colt .. one that he has no desire to see, to talk to. Frustrated, the woman takes to stalking Marlee with horrifying consequences.
I have read many of this author's books. Her character development and story line has never disappointed. The main characters are likeable, and their interactions are believable. There is a bit of sizzle and heat along with the romance. Although 4th in the series, this is easily read as a stand alone.
Many thanks to the author for the digital copy of this Romantic Suspense/Western Suspense. Read and reviewed voluntarily, opinions expressed here are unbiased and entirely my own.
The hit and run was not discussed or investigated. Who caused the accident? Logically the stalker should have been under suspicion. Story has potential but needs help.
Is her name Marlee or Marley? Or is it Marly? Does she have blonde hair? Or dark hair? Does she dress as a witch or a which for Halloween? Is the stalker Sally or Salley? I don’t know, and the author sure doesn’t seem to, either.
This is book four in the McLeod series. There is still one more brother and three sisters in this family, I hope Ms McCray has plans to finish. This is my favorite of the four. I’m not sure a romance in high school and then again over ten years later actually qualifies for a second chance romance. It is unfair to hold anyone to what happened in high school.
Yes, Marlee and Colt dated in high school. What Marlee saw she never gave Colt a chance to explain. Colts brother is married to Marlee’s cousin so run ins are inevitable. Colt and Marlee start spending time together. How ironic that the girl that caused their breakup is suddenly back in town. A string of mishaps start but they only make Colt and Marlee realize and admit not only are they a couple, but have strong feeling for each other.
Marlee is no whiting flower, she is strong and determined and broken ankle or not, she isn’t going down without a fight. Colt comes to Marlee’s rescue when Marlee barely needs him but it certainly cements their love. A little mystery, a rekindled now grown up love affair. Great read.
I had read the first book in this series and really enjoyed it so was surprised that I struggled with this one. Normally a three-star review for me means that I read the beginning and then skipped to the end, but I actually read the entire book this time. Well, with the exception of skimming some pieces that I thought were a little overwritten. Just more detail than I needed. The characters were interesting, but the story was problematic for me. I don't want to give any spoilers so I'll keep it vague, but the drama was, to me, a bit forced and/or easily resolved as well as easily figured out. The challenge for their relationship really existed in a variable outside of their control, I would argue, which made for an odd narrative structure I thought. I don't know that I'll read anymore of the series. Also, what was the obsession with the church key? Every time they opened a bottle, it was mentioned. It started to feel like she was showing off that she knew this regional reference.
It was ok. The author of these books seems to go up then down then up again, this unfortunately is a down. Three stars, yes three… One. The chemistry was not there. Two. The spice is just…. Cringy. Three… It sounds and feels like a teen wrote it.
Colt McLeod never stopped Loving Marlee fox. He broke her heart all those years ago, now she intent on keeping busy with work (Ironic that she’s an editor,) a chance encounter has him whisking her off for a date…
Colt seemed far too eager for my liking; he kissed her full on. She didn’t question it just rolled with it.
Marlee is supposed to be heartbroken but for me she let him back in far too quickly. Then there in an accident forcing her to live with him. For me the book just didn’t hit home. it felt rushed.
I don’t know how this is rated so high. The book doesn’t even deserve 2 stars. There’s a misspelling of her name at least once in the book, the action comes out of nowhere and it seems like it’s thrown in there very haphazardly just to add something to the otherwise bland book. The love is unrealistic, the emotions are extremely high and extremely low at the same time and they seem so fake. The resolution is poor and small. The storyline is actually shit. I wouldn’t have even finished if I didn’t force myself to finish all books.
I quite enjoyed the book. Then BAMMM car accident........not mentioned again. Just complaining about the crutches. Then for good reasons he tells her to leave and that he doesn’t love her anymore. Agreed he could have done it differently but BAMMM she believes him. And runs off like some stupid cow......... It must be true love if you believe it right away...... So I stopped reading, I prefer adults and not kids in my books
I love all of this series of King Creek Cowboys, I'm now on Country Monsoon. I love this series of cowboy love stories. Everyone one of these stories has left me with such of good feeling of love. I'm so glad that these brothers have found their wives and now the family is even bigger. I love series because each book and be related by the previous story and it's just a big continuation of a family's story.
I'm not a fan of we one chance stories but this one did it well. Had a plot twist that kept me guessing. There were random things that bothered me, inconsistencies, had jackets but left without them, random statements that weren't needed, specifics that you didn't need. Explicit intimacy and some language.
Colt and Marlee are strong characters. I like the second chance aspect of the storyline and how they both never really got over each other. The mystery twist keeps you intrigued but the love story keeps you wanting them to make it to hea. Loved the hot cowboy and the strong independent woman.
This was such a good book, I love second chance romance and this one did not disappoint. There’s romance and humor and suspense oh and some very yummy sexy times. Colt McLeod and Marlee Fox have great chemistry and make a solid couple.
I really enjoyed this book. It’s a second chance for Colt and Marlee, and there’s a crazy stalker involved. Can Colt keep her safe? He’ll do anything for her. Loved how he’s always loved her and I’m glad they finally get a happy ever after.
Really enjoyed this book. They both had been keeping each other at a distance since they broke up in high school because a jealous girl. Now she was back in town and convinced that Colt was hers.
Nothing like a ex who isn't a ex. Its all in her head. Being a nut job will do that. But colt and Marlee are finally where they should of started in high school. A little drama. Makes this book all the better.
They became a couple when they were too young, and he broke her heart. Now they’re ten years older. She works to stay far away from him but he knows their time has come….if they can just stay clear of a murderous stalker!
This book has a lot of grammatical and orthographic errors. Did someone care to edit it? At some point someone calls Colt McBride instead of McLeod. The story is interesting although a bit far-fetched. It seems to have been written in a rush.
Colt and Marlee are back together after a teenage breakup. Now Sally ( the cause of the breakup) is back with a vengeance and wants Colt again. Sweet, intense and passionate, with a smidgen of drama.
Cheyenne McCray has written an amazing second chance book! Colt and Marlee are fantastic characters and the storyline she created for them not only had heat and passion but danger and suspense. Outstanding.
Needs editing. Author spells female mc name as Marlee, then in another chapter as Marly. Missing words, clunky sentences. Other things. I usually like this author's books, but not this one.
This was a traditional cowboy book with one or two additions, good story to read. It was an easy read but it could have done with a bit more substance.
I loved this story. There was love, heartbreak, jealousy, and mystery. It was very diversified. I highly recommend it to anybody who wants to be entertained.
