Our engagement was fake, but the secret I've kept from my grumpy boss for 5 years is all too real.
Three things I know about Mark Miller. 1. He does not like surprises 2. He always wants to be in control 3. He despises commitment
Mark was the perfect enemy, and I should have left it that way. I gave him my heart and he shattered it. Now he’s back... The father of my secret baby thinks he can buy my company. But he wants more than a business transaction.
Lauren Chase is my name, but I chase no one. Not even my rich, hotter than hell baby daddy. I’m a young, black female executive dominating the tech industry filled with egotistic men like Mark.
I shouldn’t want anything to do with him. He’s been nothing but trouble with a capital T since crashing into my life like a wrecking ball on steroids.
I must keep this alpha in line without revealing the identity of our secret baby. That is, if I can keep myself from falling in line with his commands... again.
Oh these two people annoyed the hell out of me. First of all you had to have read the first book, Addicted to get the background for this one in order to understand how he left her alone in a hotel room 5 years earlier. Secondly he left and came back into her life a complete ass. While he demanded they pick up like the last 5 years never happened but all along had secrets of his own was very ballsy. He kept being an ass and she kept putting up with it. She was so annoying. 3rds The issue with Lydia and Marcus was just left out their with no resolution. I keep using he and she instead of the main characters names because they and this story was a waste of my time. I’ve read two books about these characters and I will not be devoting anymore of my time to them. I will however give this author another try with another book. Until next time y’all happy reading.

I don’t know where to begin with this book. The premise was good. Boy meets girl they hit if off boy ghosts girl, girl finds herself pregnant they meet again 5 years later, but then it’s all down hill from there. None of the dialogue, or behavior in this book is believable…none of it! The main characters are
laughable and sad, it reads like a twelve year old wrote it. The two main characters are supposed to be college educated people, but speak and conduct themselves as prepubescent children. You will NEVER convince me that the main character ghosts his girlfriend after having sex for the first time, and when he returns after 5 years, she just falls on to his man stuff like nothing ever happened; or when she finds out he has been married this entire time she is cool with it. No anger, no retaliation, just cry and offer to pay the wife to go away. Nope not believing it, no one in their right mind would. I know people handle things differently, but this…. I’m going to have to call BS. My suggestion to readers, move along save your money. To the author I say this. I know writing is hard that’s why everyone doesn’t do it, but if you decide to continue to writing, develop your characters and stories better, because if you don’t you will not be a writer for long.
Ok, right off the bat, talk about being a rug for some guy. Wow, did Lauren allow her love for a jerk, albeit a nice jerk, but still a jerk, string her along. Mark is a man-child, a spoiled one at that. One might say a bully at times, anything to get his way, even using, emotional blackmail.
His mom is such a nice woman, it just seems hard to believe he turns out, the way he does. Yet, in a lot of ways he needs someone like, Lauren who sees all sides, of Mark. But when, Mark ghosts her, after their night of passion. She's devastated.
She became stronger and more determined, from the experience. So, when he pops back into her life, acting like she is a stranger, she gets her, mad on. These too in this part are like rabbits, you have been warned.
I really enjoyed this book. The story has a good story line, and was a well written read. The characters are relatable, and I enjoyed the way the Author was able to make you feel so many emotions between them. I will definitely read more from Author Ashlie Silas. Verified ARC Reader The chemistry between them was explosive! by sewsummore
Lauren and Mark were lovers five years earlier and then he disappeared from her life leaving her pregnant with his child, fast forward to the present and he was her new boss. His disappearance almost broke her, but she survived and was no longer the gullible young woman she was then. Mark had walked away from her once, but never again. The chemistry between them was explosive as ever, and this time he was not letting her go . I found this book an interesting read with characters I could relate to. Lauren was no longer the love struck young woman of the past, she knew her own worth and would not be manipulated. This time Mark would have to prove himself before she would let him into her heart once again.

When Lauren met Mark it was a love to hate. He was bossy, straightforward, no surprises kind of guy. I should have known better than to give him my heart, because like always, the man broke my heart, and nine months later I found myself a single Mom. I started my own business and suddenly, the nightmare of my dreams decided to buy my company; however, he wants more than that. He's nothing but trouble. How do I go about this without bringing into the light the identity of our secret baby. I know this would not be easy, because although he shattered my heart, I know my heart still wants him.

Mark was emotionally immature wealthy playboy that constantly found ways to mess up his life after the death of his mother.
Every time I think there is something redeemable about him, he does or say something offensive. Or something unpleasant is revealed about him. I could not warm up to him. Never liked him. Ruined the story for me.
Lauren came off as weak and pathetic; the worst type of heroine. I could not relate to her.
A fun, easy reading, short story. Easily connected with the main characters. Could keep reading more of their story. A little disjointed in parts, but still easy to follow and the gaps were filled in as the story progresses.

Ashlie Silas has written a 5-star book. This is the story of Lauren and Mark. Lauren and Mark had been a couple back in college until Mark broke up with her for no reason and disappeared. She tried to contact him but he never answered her calls or texts. When she found out she was pregnant, she tried again to contact him with no luck. Now five years later, she shows up as the owner of the company she works for as a Marketing Director. He calls a meeting for everyone. In the meeting, he just lets them all have it. Lauren's team is the only ones who have made money quarter after quarter. She is not happy to see Mark and she takes a few days off to get her head together. While she is off, she looks for another job. When she goes into work on Monday, she has a bunch of files on her desk that should be Mark's assistants, not hers. This keeps happening and when she sends Mark an email about it, he doesn't even respond to her over anything. Mark calls a meeting and Lauren is on the phone with a possible client. Ben comes to get her and tells her that it had been ten minutes since Mark called the meeting. When they walk into the meeting Mark lays into her for being late. She gives it right back to him and tells him that she was on the phone taking care of business and if he had gotten back to her, she could have told him that. Mark tells her that they are getting a new client and they would need to go to Hawaii for three days and Lauren was the one going with him. She doesn't want to go with him. she tries to get Ben's help in getting her out of going. She has to go and she is not happy. They go on his private plane. Mark wants her back and he ends up sleeping with her on the plane. She is so disappointed with herself when they land. The next day at the meeting, Lauren is questioned about knowing what she is doing. Mark goes off on the man and then tells her that the meeting is over and starts to walk out. Ms. Wu asks Lauren to continue telling her more about what she has planned. After the meeting, Mark and Ms. Wu walk off to talk. Mark comes back and tells Lauren that Ms. Wu is going to go with them and he wants to celebrate. She tells him she can't since she has to help her daughter with her homework. Lauren goes to her room and gets ready for the video call with Ellie. Once the call is over, she doesn't want to stay in her room so she calls Mark and tells him dinner sounded good. He told her that he made reservations for 9:00. During dinner, they don't talk about business but just normal things. After dinner, he tries to get her to go to his room but she doesn't. She tells him that since they have the job for Ms. Wu, then her job was done and she had the next day to herself. Mark has different plans for her. Mark wakes Lauren up the next morning with breakfast. She had planned to sleep in and then go do some sightseeing. Mark has things planned and they spend the day on a yacht touring the island. She thinks about how she feels for Mark and decides that she will sleep with him one more time and then go back to the way things were. The next morning, Lauren wakes up before Mark and gets dressed, and walks away from Mark. Once back home, things change for them. Mark gets her to start seeing him. Finally, Lauren decides to let Mark meet Ellie and invites him over for dinner. He still doesn't know about Ellie being his daughter. When Mark gets to her apartment, he is talking to her and she calls for Ellie. When Ellie gets to her, Lauren tells her she would like for her to meet Mark, her father. Marks is shocked when he hears this. At first, Mark is a little upset with Lauren not telling him and she just lets him know that she had tried to get in touch with him but he never returned a phone call or text, so she couldn't tell him. After this, Mark starts spending all his free time with Lauren and Ellie. Lauren calls Mark one time and a woman answers his phone, when she asked to speak to Mark, the woman said "Mark, honey." Lauren didn't wait for him to come to the phone, she hung up. Mark calls her back and she ignores his calls and text. He finally gets her to agree to talk to him. He tells her that what she thinks is not what is going on. She gives him another chance. Something happens and she ends up calling him again and the same woman answers his phone. This time she calls her friend Lydia and they go to Mark's apartment. This is when Lauren finds out that Mark is married and the woman is his wife but he wants a divorce. She won't sign the papers because she is holding out for more money. Mark and Lauren finally get her to agree to an amount and to sign the papers, Can things work out for Lauren and Mark? This was a wonderful book and I would recommend it to anyone.

Secret Daddy is an interracial romance about Lauren and Mark who had a brief affair five years ago. We learn that Mark and Lauren used to be fake engaged but it is not clear why. From the author's website I have learned that there is another book that probably explains this background more and this is really book 2, but it was not obvious from the blurb. Anyway, his mother was dying of cancer and this somehow messed him up so he ghosted Lauren before she could tell him she was pregnant. Now they have a daughter Ellie that Mark doesn't know about. He bought the company she works at and turns up as a grumpy boss. But what is he up to? Is he trying to rekindle their affair? Oh yes he is, he takes it for granted that he can just waltz back whenever he feels like it and Lauren will be waiting.
I'm sorry but I did not like Secret Daddy at all, mostly because I hated the hero. The first sex scene is uncomfortably like a sexual assault. Lauren is dozing off when he starts groping her and climbs on top of her, tugs down her underwear and has intercourse with her, telling her, "I know you want this Lauren, don't fight it," as if not fighting means consent is given. What would she do? She is on a private airplane with her boss who has been threatening to fire everyone she works with if he's not happy with them, there is nowhere to flee as they're in an enclosed metal box high in the air, and she can't even see anything because she was trying to take her sleep mask off but he took hold of her hands to prevent it. Afterwards she is too shocked and ashamed to face him and when she gets to her hotel she immediately jumps into the shower to scrub all traces of him off herself. After reading that I was left reeling, feeling like the heroine just got raped by the hero but she calls it a mistake *shrug*. If I hadn't received an advance copy for review, this is where I'd have stopped reading and marked it DNF.
There was just no way for the hero to redeem himself for me after that. Not that he was trying very hard. When she tells him her plan is to sleep late, skip breakfast and see him in the afternoon, obviously he proceeds to ignore all that and wakes her up early in the morning with breakfast for two, and later he completely disregards Lauren's wishes for Ellie's birthday. Because this is a man who is not interested in what she wants. Lauren worries about her friend who is dating a selfish male but Mark is not any better. He says arrogant things like, "You know I have always loved you. I never stopped loving you. Stop being a spoiled brat. Do you know how many women would love to have me standing in their office right now?" But he hadn't explained why he just disappeared for five years, so how the heck is she supposed to know he's always loved her? The most explanation for his absence that Lauren ever gets is in a letter from his mother who is dead. Later Mark gets upset that Lauren didn't tell him about Ellie or another man that she had been dating while he was gone, and in the meantime he's been lying to her about his wife. There is another sex scene in which she is willing to have sex but reacts to his commands a bit too slowly, and he gets mad and "forced himself thoroughly" inside of her while she's screaming for mercy. The more she screamed the harder he went. I think the heroine and her daughter would be better off without him.
In the last chapters the author introduces some plot twists that seem potentially significant but lead to nothing in particular and probably are there just to fill some pages. A minor character that we've never actually met commits suicide and there is a public service announcement about suicide prevention hotlines. I agree that suicide prevention is important but it seemed a little random in the context of a romance novel. Another minor character shows up with ties to organized crime that sound menacing but it has no real consequences.
Regarding editing, the word doze is consistently spelled dose, every time it occurs.

The addition starts with the book cover….yeah…yeah…yeah don’t judge a book by its cover they say ….well we all do it and this one here it is the scratch to your itch or better yet the filling to your oreos! Within the first chapters you get the panoramic view of whom you’re dealing with! This is book is part of the Alumnus series why just read one when you can start at the beginning and keep reading through the series it won’t be a waste of time. Okay let me start off informing this is the sequel so if you haven’t read that one ..it may feel like this is out of sorts and you may feel a little lost. A little background Lauren and Mark dated in college, fell in love with each other (or so she thought) but what she didn’t know was that he was taking care of his terminally ill mother so when she passed away, he just left without a word or anything to her (basically he ghosted her with good reason). Around this same time, she found out she was pregnant and with no response life continued. Fast forward a few years she has a daughter and working for a large marketing company, has stability and everything she needs to keep moving forward until her company is sold to a new owner. So, imagine her surprise when her baby daddy walks in acting like a jerk she know him to be but the chemistry is still insanely intense and the magnetic pull can’t be ignored but will she give him the second chance he wants because he still loves her and really want to pick up where they left off despite the fact he abandoned her and never reconnected with her as he mourned the loss of his mother. Will they work through their issues, or will she walk away with his daughter, will she give him a chance to be a father, can they find something in what they had, and will they grab ahold of the second chance fate has given them?
Where should I start? To begin with, the writing is terrible. The grammar was poor, it wasn’t edited very well, the language was juvenile, the descriptions were terrible, the dialog was forced and often distasteful and the sex scenes were just appalling. (The first one was where he basically raped her and the others were not much better.) Even if the story-line itself was interesting the dreadful writing would have made it very hard to follow. As it is, the story was boring and had several random incidents that came across almost like filler. Every characters in the entire book was two dimensional and uninteresting. Neither the hero or heroine were likable and had zero chemistry. I didn’t care what happened to them or if they ended up together. I constantly wanted to quit reading and the only reason I didn’t was because I had committed to finishing it and providing a review. To be honest, I wouldn’t have made it through the first two chapters if I hadn’t. The only good thing I can say about it is I’m happy it’s over.
I found out after I read the book and went to write the reviews that this book is apparently the sequel to a prior book that is only available through the author’s website. There is nothing about this anywhere to warn anyone. This explains a little why it was so confusing in places. (I often felt like I had walked into the middle of the movie so to speak.)
I hate to give such a negative review to a new author but I promised to be truthful. Unfortunately I cannot recommend this book to anyone.

'Secret Daddy' by Ashlie Silas is the first book in her new Alumnus series and tells the story of Lauren, a single mother whose company is just bought out, and Mark, her former college love and the buyer of her company. Lauren walks into work on Monday to discover that Mark had taken over her company and during the meeting he threatened everyone with their jobs if they couldn't produce and stated all had a 90 day probation. Lauren was upset because as marketing director her department continually increased business every quarter. She couldn't believe his attitude or his demeanor towards the people she worked with. She was glad he never contacted her again back in the day.
Mark had loved Lauren while in college. He also took care of his terminally mother. His mother died shortly after him and Lauren declared their love. Mark lost it and left wondering around for years. He never said anything to Lauren, just left her a note then disappeared. Now five years later he purchased her company. Was it a coincidence?
Ms. Silas has written a compelling story to kick off her new series. The story has suspense, laughs, trust issues, misunderstandings, passion, and plenty of heat. The chemistry between Lauren and Mark is hot. I liked how Lauren and her sister watched out for each other. Can't wait for the next story. I enjoyed this book and recommend it to anyone who likes a bit of drama with their romance.

Secret Daddy by Ashlie Silas, is the sequel to addicted, and was an emotional and sweet romance! Lauren, has moved on from her college heartbreak, and has a daughter Ellie that she is raising alone with the continued support of her family and friends. She works hard for a large marketing company, has stability and everything she needs to keep moving forward until her company is sold to a new owner. Imagine her surprise when Mark, her college love and unknowing father of her child walks in, acting like a jerk. Things get complicated as sparks fly, and their unresolved issues come to the surface. Mark still loves Lauren, and he hopes to pick up where they left off, even though he abandoned her and never reconnected with her as he mourned the loss of his mother. As they work through their problems, their unrequited love flares and they start to build a beautiful relationship and family, especially when Mark learns he has a daughter! Such a great story, and I was so pleased that they all found their happily ever after!

Lauren and Mark were a couple in college but then he disappeared on her. She tried reaching out but he never responded back. When she found out that she was pregnant she just moved on because she couldn't just dwell on the past anymore. Now years later the company she works at is bought out and Mark is the new owner. He comes in and tells everyone that if they aren't productive that they'll lose their job. Lauren is worried because of her daughter. When she takes a few days off Mark makes her regret it when she returns to work. As they continue to work together they get closer again. What will Mark do when he learns that they have a child together? Can they have a future together?
This is a great story that will captivate you from beginning to end. This is a well written and very entertaining story. I would recommend this book to any book lover.

This is my first book from this author. I liked the synopsis thought it would be a great book to read. I hate giving bad reviews. But I have to speak my truth. This book had me smh very early on. Lauren and Mark had a history together that didn't end well. Now 5 years later Mark is back in Lauren's life a her new boss. Unbeknown to Mark, they have a 4 year old daughter named Ellie. Now I understand her hesitation to not want to tell Mark about his child until she knew he was gonna do right by their daughter. But weeks/months go by why is he still in the dark? There were too many inconsistencies, secrets and lies by both characters to even WANT them to have a HEA. The ending was so haphazard and thrown together I just couldn't believe in this couple. Again I'm sorry for leaving a bad review. But I have to speak my truth. And what I didn't like about this book someone else may love.
This is the 1st book in a new series as well as being a new author to me, but I will be looking out for her work in the future. Mark and Lauren were college sweethearts, until Mark end things and disappears, leaving Lauren with a little gift. After numerous tries to get hold of Mark with no response, she gives up and keeps the secret to herself. Now 5-years later Mark arrives as the new owner to the company Lauren works at, and he is grumpy, likes to be in control, and hates surprises and commitment. Will Lauren tell Mark about his daughter, or will she find out a secret about him? This is a well written story which is entertaining, and with secrets, twists, love, and 2nd chances, which had me hooked throughout. I look forward to reading more from this talented author whose work I recommend.
Lauren Chase works as the Market Strategy Manager for a big company. She has a 4 year old daughter Ellie from a college relationship that went bad. The father of her child basically ghosted her right before Lauren found out she was pregnant. Her friend and college roommate Lydia helped her through the drama and is still Lauren’s best friend. Mark Miller is a very rich man that comes blazing in and buys the company that Lauren works for and no one knew about the sale. They are all blind sided that there is a new owner. Turns out Mark Miller is Lauren’s ex-boyfriend and father of Ellie but Mark has no idea he is a dad. Did Mark know Lauren worked there when he bought the company? Will Lauren tell him that he’s the father of Ellie? Are they still attracted to and/or in love with each other? Thoroughly enjoyed finding out all these answers.
Mark and Lauren met at college. They started dating and she agreed to be his fake fiance for his mum as she was sick. But then Mark disappeared from Lauren's life, she was unable to track him down anywhere. 5 years later Mark turns up as the new owner of Lauren's company. He doesn't know that Lauren found out she was pregnant after he left her and she isn't sure if she should tell him. Mark is still in love with Lauren, but he doesn't seem to know how a real relationship works. He expects her to fall back into his arms as if nothing happened.
I liked the story but I found both characters a bit shallow at times, they had a tendency to only think of themselves alot.

This is the first book I have read by Ms Silas and it was definitely a book that captivated my attention from the first page to the last. The story is well written with characters that will hold your attention. The characters, Mark and Lauren were college sweethearts, but Mark disappears before Lauren discovers she is pregnant. Lauren does try to find him but finally gives up. The story comes in again five years later. Not wanting to ruin the story for anyone it is definitely worth reading for those that love a second chance romance with HEA ending. I will be watching for more of Ms. Silas’ books.

Lauren's world is rocked when her company is purchased by her college boyfriend. Mark wondered for years after the death of his mother. Finding Lauren was no accident. She takes a few weeks to figure out her future and the possibility that Mark would want to meet his daughter
This story is well written and moves along at a good pace. I didn't like Mark I found him to be a bully who hadn't matured into adulthood. He was also aggressive sexually without consent. Lauren also has some growing up to do but her character was much more balanced.

I'm not sure about this story. I had read the prequel story 'Addicted' so knew the background of Mark and Lauren, however in this story I really didn't like Mark's character or the way he treated Lauren. The first half of the story was better than the second, but the story just seemed to continue with rapidly changing story lines, turning into a soap opera, and just felt more and more ridiculous. The writing style wasn't particularly engaging, and the steamy scenes were disappointing. The HEA ending was also rushed and the story ended abruptly.

Caveman Mark gave hypocrite and jerk their meanings and Lauren was looking a little desparate repeatedly going back to him!! So much drama an moving parts with their 'outside people' that would never be ok for me. Lydia was THAT friend who was ready to be Lauren's ride-or-die bestie without having to be prompted. Like, let's just pull up!!! Yes, I was here for that!! After all of the years apart, I think they earned their HEA. Be warned: there are references to gay marriage, lots of steam and colorful language.

This story was so dumb. The chemistry was lacking. They were just a couple. You made her (don't care about her name) all strong and the first chance she gets, she is bonking him. Then she said it was a mistake, and bonked him again. I was waiting for this book to get good and it ended. This is the type of story you ask why it was written. The last part about Scott was so outlandish, that it bordered on funny. He was angry with her and he ghosted her for five years. This book turned me off anymore of your books. Also, you skimmed over the fact that Scott called his family gangster (don't care about his name either).
Loved the story of how they were able to find love, they were given a second chance. Hated that he was not there for his daughter Ellie, finding out 4 years later. Both having secrets and not communicating or trusting each other with their secrets. I loved that his mother, even on her deathbed knew of her grandchild and made provisions for her.m, while hoping her son would come out of his mourning to fix things. Both finally realized that they needed to get their stuff together if not for themselves but for their daughter.

Mark and Lauren will have you all in to this story. Mark and Lauren were college sweethearts with their whole lives ahead of them until he suddenly ended everything leaving Lauren with an unexpected gift. It took her five long years to get over him only to have him suddenly reappear in her life as the new owner of the company that she works at. It doesn't take them long to rekindle what they once had but is Mark in it for the long haul this time around and will it lead them to finally having a happily ever after?

Lauren has worked with her company and is responsible for a team and an increase in profit. She's happy, successful, and a mother. Unexpectedly her life changes when her ex boyfriend returns - as her boss. He's rude, arrogant and gives her more work than anyone else! A trip to Hawaii will break down some of the barriers... But why did he leave her...why did he come back?
I thoroughly enjoyed reading this engaging, entertaining, and compelling story. Told from Lauren's POV intimately describes her thoughts feelings and emotions as Mark returns seeking a second chance. The story has an HEA
Secret Daddy - Five years ago, Mark Miller and Lauren Chase had a relationship in college. After they made love for the first time, Mark disappeared with no note, text, or call to let Lauren know what had happened. She was heartbroken. When she found out she was pregnant, Lauren tried to reach Mark but was blocked every time. Fast forward five years: Mark Miller now owns the marketing company Lauren works for as the Director of Marketing. This story is laugh-out-loud funny, romantic, and steamy and ends in a HEA. Highly recommended.
It's been a while since I reviewed a book and this one was just so terrible that I had too. There's bad grammar, terrible spelling and the dialogue is just so juvenile. I was so excited to read this book but the hero was a frat boy that didn't grow up and thought he would just get back together with the heroine who just couldn't stand her ground.
I read this authors other stories and they weren't bad (plot wise, spelling and grammar is still horrible) and this is the only one that I found hard to finish.
