In The Midnight Hour
By Deborah Cooke
Flatiron Five #3
Cooke’s latest in her Flatiron Five series is a poignant reminder that soldiers may leave the war but the war rarely leaves soldiers staring a bighearted couple who are two peas in a pod. Readers will get an up close and personal look at the enigmatic F5 partner Damon Perez and his love interest Haley and as this talented author unpeels their complicated layers a lonely pair who must learn they are not an island is revealed. The love scenes are smokin hot and the handling of the PTSA is fabulous and although the tale is unforgettable the unprotected sex (even though I get the heroine’s risk taking need) was a turn-off marring this otherwise amazing novel a bit.

SUMMARY:
Damon Perez purposely lets his business partners an the über successful Manhattan Flatiron Five fitness club they own think he’s going on a hot date every Friday at five when in reality he’s using massage therapy to help his dying mom with pain management. He’s also losing his own battle against PTSD that’s made an unwelcome return with his mother’s deteriorating health. But there is one light at the end of his tunnel a beautiful nurse who’s managed to keep his demons at bay, temporarily.
Oncology nurse Haley Slater is always on the lookout for alternative therapies for her patient’s pain management so when she hears a patient on her ward is benefiting from massages from her son its piqued her interest. When she meets the tall dark and handsome man in question she wants to learn all he can teach her – in and out of the bedroom. She knows she’s heading for a big fall but try as she might she can’t say no to him.

Book three in the Flatiron Five series was passionate, with a well developed plot and great characters. Book 2, Addicted to Love, is definitely still my favorite in the series, but this one is a close second. Haley is the perfect partner for Damon and Damon has demons that need to be faced before he can find his happy ever after. Damon’s mom is dying of cancer and he hasn’t told his partners at F5 any of what he has been dealing with alone for months. They think that he has a girlfriend that he sees every Friday when in fact he is at the hospital with his mom. Haley is a nurse interested in therapeutic methods that don’t require medications and has heard that every Friday Damon gives his ailing mom a massage and it seems to help her more than the medications. She wants to see for herself, and possibly, ask him some questions about his methods. What she doesn’t expect is for him to offer to teach her. He doesn’t expect the prim little nurse to actually take him up on his offer, but when she does he is intrigued. Their relationship was hot from the start and I really like how the characters in this book, and in book 2, were honest and straightforward. They didn’t play games. They didn’t say one thing but mean another. Haley was straight up honest with Damon and it was that which pulled him in, just like Lauren and Kyle. Loved it and am definitely now looking forward to more in this series. So good.

This is a great addition to the Flatiron Five series, which is about the smart, determined, loyal, and physically fit partners in a New York City fitness center. This book can be read alone without having to read the rest of the series.

Damon seems to be the most mysterious and closed-off of the partners. He leaves Flatiron Five every Friday, and no one knows what he is up to. Sadly, he is visiting his dying mother in the hospital to give her a massage to ease some of her pain. As a nurse, Haley is interested in learning therapeutic massage to help her patients. The chemistry between Damon and Haley is sizzling from the beginning, and one massage leads to so much more. But both Damon and Haley have walled off their hearts to a long-term relationship. Damon is dealing with his time as a soldier and the loss of his mom, while Haley has been jilted before. They both need to figure out what they want to do with their careers and their lives, and they struggle to see if they can make a life together.

This is an emotional story with plenty of passion as the characters deal with real-world challenges. I recommend this for anyone who likes a good contemporary story featuring characters who have experienced a lot of life, yet still have much more to figure out on their way to a happily ever after.

Damon has a secret, every Friday night he goes to see his mom in the hospital. Haley is interested in alternative therapy and is intrigued with the man who comes to visit Natasha, one of the patients in her hospital every Friday night and gives her a massage that eases her pain a lot.
When he offers Haley a chance to learn the massage technique from him, Haley is all for it. And soon the lesson turns into so much more, and just one night is not enough. But will their past baggage let them have a future together ?
In the midnight hour was a wonderful read. The author has done an amazing job of drawing the characters with depth and intrigue, and their issues are totally relatable. The way they support and push each other at the same time was just wow. It was as an emotional read that had me tearing up at regular intervals. The heat quotient was at par with the previous books in the series. Can’t wait to see what the author has in store for Cassie in the next book.

Having been burned after two people who Haley loved deserted her, she is understandably gun-shy when it comes to relationships. She is determined not to fall into the same situation as her mother, who’d married the love of her life, only to lose him in a dreadful attack. And after her fiancé reappeared married to another, Haley began to feel that she wasn’t worthy of love and threw herself wholeheartedly into her career. Damon Perez suffered from PTSD and survivor’s guilt after a member of his patrol team lost his life and another was maimed. He, too, was convinced love and a lifetime relationship were not in his future. Watching these two damaged people come together and, by challenging each other’s perceptions and misconceptions in the best possible way, heal themselves and each other was satisfying and joyful. This is such a great story. It is easy to love Damon, mama’s boy that he is as well as being a big strong guy too. In the Midnight Hour (Flatiron Five #3) by Deborah Cooke is by far my favorite of the series.
Two strong independent loners who need someone to love and someone who loves them unreservedly. I agree with Natalia that Damon needed that very badly. Enter Haley who is natured liked him, has the same interests and desire to do good but also possesses the same wariness of others that Damon does. The problems are bound to come but so worth the effort for these two to overcome the obstacles.
Well-written, heartstring pulling, steamy romance that has characters that I cared about finding that special someone to love. Thumbs up on In the Midnight Hour.
The publisher/author gave me a complimentary ARC of the book.

Well written book in the F5 series, it can be read as a standalone, however it's nice to have the background of the other characters. The main characters are both definitely commitment afraid for very different reasons. Both had great examples of loving parents yet took the deaths of their fathers very differently. Then life experiences really added on the stay away from relationships. His I understood, hers I couldn't wait for her to take an old boyfriend off the pedestal she had him on. I wanted to yell at her that he was a creep, ultimately she grew up. I was gifted this book with no expectation of a review, but I really enjoyed it. All the partners grew in this one and we were introduced to a new disabled vet that I'm hoping we see more of in future books. Lots of adult steamy activities, but the story is solid and not cheated by physical descriptions.

This is captivatingly sexy, romantic, sweet, sad and amusing. Damon is tough, stubborn, sweet and intriguing. Haley is selfless, determined, kind, caring and sweet. The storyline is heartbreaking and romantic. They meet at the hospital where Damon's mother is dying. Haley learns about his care for his mother, about the massages he gives her and she wants to learn more so that she can apply it to other people. They are both lonely and drawn to each other, that when they try to get together for lessons, they end up in bed. The problem is that Haley no longer believes in HEA, and Damon thinks that he's too broken to have any real relationship. Their interactions with each other are intense, sweet and sensitive. It's a book that belongs on the top of your TBR list.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from the author. This is my honest and voluntary opinion of it.

Heartwarming

A great addition to the series, I really enjoyed Damon and Haley's story. Reading the previous books, I was curious about the mysterious Damon and where did he disappear every Friday evening. A great man, loyal to the core, Damon is easy to love, no wonder Haley fell for him. Loved how the partners at F5 got behind him even more so after finding out about his Mom. Glad that Haley helped him see that he was worthy of love and changed his life. The secondary characters were great additions, Ninja the devil cat, Haley's sister is hilarious, with her whirlwind personality. Aidan, the ex, good riddance, what an egotist and I can't believe her Mom thought it was a good idea to give him another chance! Ms. Cooke has a way with words that hooks me in and makes me feels all emotions but leaving me happy with a heartwarming HEA. I can't wait for the next story.

In the Midnight Hour stars Damon and Haley, two strong, private individuals who do not want forever or the pain true love brings. A one night stand turns into another night and another night and a possible forever if they can move past their pain and embrace their chance of an HEA. Super heated and super sweet, the story moves quickly drawing compassion from the reader as Damon and Haley works on overcoming the things that keep them apart. My favorite book in the Flatiron Five series as Damon and Haley's story grabs the heartstrings for a little tug. My voluntary, unbiased review is based upon a review copy.

This was a hot, well-written book. Haley is a nurse at a hospital and she is curious about Damon, who comes in to see his mother, who is battling cancer. Haley asks Damon for a lesson in the therapeutic massage she sees him do for his mother. Sparks fly once they touch each other and the relationship goes from there. This book can be read as a standalone story, though it is part of a series with related characters. I enjoyed this book and look forward to reading more books in this series as well as other books by this author. A copy of this book was provided to me with no requirements for a review. Deborah Cooke does an amazing job in this third installment of her FlatIron Five series. This book can stand on it's own without needing to have read the previous 2 in the series.
The characters are smart and well written and while both have issues that need to be worked out they manage to bring out the best in each other to provide a satisfying Happily Ever After.

No longer Midnight, but Just as good

Flatiron5 #3

My edition had the title In The Midnight Hour, when this series was all song themes; but if it took renaming the series to get more stories in the Flatiron5 universe—its still a rose ;)

Haley and Damon are two of my favorite Flatiron5 people in part because they were both closed off inside, though both held highly interactive jobs and functioned well in them. I loved that they met over healing massage and that she got to know his mother before she passed, giving him someone to talk to about something so personal, that not even his coworkers knew.
Who would have thought that civility could open so many doors!
