4 Clean Stars!!

 photo 11110965_1588678268048877_6612882789774176768_n.jpg

A refreshing, yet fast-paced story about second-chance love mixed with some romantic suspense. If you like reading stories about real adult characters, with real problems and real-life struggles, minus any stupid OTT drama, then I highly recommend this story to you. Enjoyed Freya's writing too. To me, this is an author to watch! :)

I love Freya's books. She writes about real people facing real issues. I didn't like the hero so much coming into this book, and knew he had done something to hurt the heroine. It's explained what happened and it's explained from both points of view how it felt. And that won me over. These folks are humans who made mistakes and they aren't just brushed under the rug. I liked that the heroine didn't just give in to the hero, but made him work to regain her respect and regard.

Again, the outside characters prove so vital to the story and the interactions are all one hopes for. I read a lot of books, I love books where I feel like I could be friends with the characters. But Freya's writing takes it to a whole new level, I want to move to Cedar Tree and have these folks in my every day life! Highly suggest starting the series from the beginning. Each book is a stand alone but the characters flow from one book to the next and help you understand how they have built a community.

Audiobook: Narrators - Tanya Eby and Noel Harrison

Wonderful job by both narrators. I felt completely pulled into the story and loved how they both performed both the hero and heroine.

I listened to this one out of order but it didn’t interfere with my enjoyment of the story and other than knowing the happy ever after of the previous couple, I didn’t feel as if I were missing anything. I loved both Naomi and Joe as well as Naomi’s son Fox. Their relationship started with some ups and downs but when Joe was able to get his foot in Naomi’s door, he pushed it wide and wasn’t going to let her close him out again.

This is layered with plot after plot, twist after twist, all wrapped up in so much deliciousness that is Joe and Naomi together. He was so protective of her and when he wanted to block her out completely, he recognized that she would never stand for it. The chemistry between them was amazing and holy heck...if only my mid-life life was like that! Well, minus the bad guys.

Clean Lines by Freya Barker

5* review by Nicole @ Nic’s Novel Idea

Freya Barker is a talented lady but the three things I love most about her writing. The first one is the fact that she can write an amazingly sexy slightly older leading hero, especially in an over-saturated with muscle-bound twenty-something’s book world. The second one is she writes the strongest, most independent and stalwart heroines to grace the lines of a page. Third and final and perhaps most important when penning a novel, she knows how to showcase her writing technique to the best of her abilities, it’s emotive, funny, exciting, dramatic, scintillating and scandalous.

‘Not waiting, I grab her hand and flatten it against the crotch of my pants where she can clearly feel the full length of my very hard, very hot and very hungry c**k. Her eyes pop open and I lean in so my nose almost touches hers. “That. Is what my c**k thinks of your idea of a pity f**k.”
“Okay.” Her voice is so soft if I hadn’t seen her mouth move I’d have missed it. “Baby, don’t doubt me, please. Clean lines of communication, okay? If I say something that pisses you off, you tell me. I may not be the most sensitive guy around, but I’m not an a**hole. Don’t wanna waste more time on misunderstandings, not with you.”

*Swoon* A mature, intelligent adult conversation that manages to sound dirty and promiscuous as well as sweet. This is without a doubt one of those series’ that just stays with you, no matter how many books you read. Cedar Trees is home to some of the most vibrant, unique and memorable characters ever created and I will be beyond depressed when this series comes to an end, everyone feels like family, it’s a fictional community but not to me.

Freya is a lyrical genius, she knows how to shape her characters through their actions and dialogue, she gives her heroes beauty, brains and balls and her heroines beauty, brains and balls, there is nothing meek or simpering within these pages but if someone makes a mistake they stand up, admit fault, apologise and move one. If you want a grown up story with terrific drama and intrigue mixed with filthy hot sex balanced with sweet and romantic then Clean Lines is the book for you.

I loved it! Freya did it again!

I'm afraid that my words will not do justice to the AWESOMENESS of this book! It is yet the best one of this series for me!

The book is about the story of Naomi and Joe! They met 4 years ago... It ended before it even begun... They never spoke about it again... Now, Naomi's teenage son finds himself in the middle of an extremely dangerous situation and Joe is there, by their side... But, too much is unsaid between them and is hard to move forward. However, Joe is fierce and this time he won't take no for an answer!

One of the things I thoroughly enjoyed throughout the book is the harmony and balance of all the elements that make a great suspense read. First of all, the characters were portrayed in such way, that you felt as if you knew them your whole life. Secondly, all of the plot was so well developed, that there were no gaps or unanswered questions. The shadow of danger was everywhere. It had me at the edge of my seat till the last page. Thirdly, the emotions, the bonds and the friendship of all the characters in the book was sooooo real that I felt as if I was part of their group. Last but not least, Joe is hot, an alpha and not afraid to express his feelings. Naomi is the epitome of a woman: dynamic, successful, sensual and a mother. Put these two characters together and you get fireworks!!!

Freya never ceases to amaze me with her writing skills, which always seem to evolve and in this book touched perfection! Her stories sing to my heart and I feel extremely honored that she trusts me with her books!

I cannot recommend this book strong enough! It's perfect!

Everytime I read a Freya Barker novel, it just gets better!

Her Cedar Tree series is one of my favourites as it deals with flawed, imperfect people. They are real and relatable.

Joe and Naomi’s story is my favourite so far in the series. I loved their banter and their passion. They are both proof that love, friends and family can overcome any obstacle.

Once again Freya’s characters are well written and had me fall in love with all of them.

This book made me hold my breath, laugh out loud and have tears in my eyes.

It is a story of passion, love and drama.

I HIGHLY RECOMMEND this fantastic series.

FIVE STARS!

Where the fuck do I start this review???

Because wow. Just. Fucking. WOW.

The Cedar Tree series which I have just read back to back is outstanding. Freya Barker is just crazy ass talented and I’m totally fucking overexcited with my discovery and wanting the world to know, this means in my usual fashion the profanity when excited goes into overdrive, leaving me swearing like a sailor with tourettes, however as her writing is so flawless and overwhelmingly real – whilst also being hot as fuck (see I told you, profanity and excitement go hand in hand!) – I also want to wax lyrical and eloquent.

So where does that leave me?

A motherfucker of a poem?

Possibly.

Because I want to shout, put it on billboards, skywrite it and advertise far and wide, share with the world albeit in a colourful fashion that Freya Barker has a gift, writes real, heart-warming and emotional, funny, hot books with characters whose banter, friendships and stories will have you rooting for them, getting serious feels for them, purchasing new batteries for toys because oh boy did I mention HOT as FUCK, and all while effortlessly throwing in suspense, intrigue, fabulous funny sarcasm and humour. She dares to go where few authors will risk, writing older characters with health issues, disabilities, the reality and the fantasy seamlessly intertwined and breathtakingly beautiful. I remember when I finished my first Kristen Ashley immediately downloading the rest of the series, devouring them one after the other while the family took care of themselves because I was on a mission, déjà vu for Freya Barker. I have no clue why she is not more well-known or why this series, especially Slim to None, is not a huge bestseller because for me they were a special read, the author an awesome discovery and I had a real ‘oh my fucking god’ moment when I finished the fourth book Clean Lines because, apart from KA, not many have written a series where I literally could not choose my favourite, where every single book boyfriend was ‘The One’ and every single heroine I wanted to be or wanted as a bestie, all abso-fucking-lutely fabulous, the fantasy escape we read romance for but so bloody real. And yeah I’m gushing, I’m also stalking and pimping her crazy talented ass out, much as my blog partner-in-crime has done for some time, because she needs that one tiny little touch of luck to put these books where they belong…

……………………………………

So let’s start with Slim to None, with my gorgeous Gus and sassy Emma whose start is the amazingly steamy “porn” phone call (I say “porn” firmly tongue in cheek by the way, check out the one star “porm” review!!) which personally I thought was hilarious, hot and worked for me!

“Sure thing. We’ve only known each other for what? Three, four days?” Forcing out a chuckle, she finished. “Just fun and games, right?” She could feel his growl behind her. “Fuck no, woman.” He bit out. “You know it, and I know it. We’ll sort it, but now is not the time. You’re exhausted and I have a team to set up. So, when I say ‘sort it’, I mean I’ll have myself up in your face, and under your skin and into your body so deep, you won’t be able to doubt my intentions.”

Oh Lordy I’m having a flush just reading that quote! Gus is all man, alpha male written with a vulnerability, warmth and humour that you will fall into a puddle at his feet, worshipping at the dream that is Gus. Emma is so strong and sassy, refusing to let life get her down, choosing to live and enjoy even with health limitations, without giving spoilers let’s just say the thoughtfulness shown by Gus for making Emma comfortable while still being sexually adventurous was all kinds of hot I wasn’t expecting. The chemistry between these two when it does explode is so well done that it’s seamless, the physical and emotional so well intertwined with sassy humour and banter that you almost miss, through the sheer panty melting hot scenes, the friendship and emotional attachment that is developing between them. This introduction to the Cedar Tree series is totally addictive because while being captivated by Gus and Emma, their intimacy and relationship and the friendships of the secondary cast all merges together to create a world I didn’t want to end.

……………………………………

Hundred to One is the second outing, and features Arlene and Seb. A very different couple yet again Ms Barker managed to engage me with 100% attention, devouring this story.

“There is nothing to miss – there is too much to take in. Do you realize how unique it is to find what we have? With our backgrounds, both of our fucked up histories? We were a hundred to one odds. Who could have imagined that you and I would hit it off, let alone fall in love. I don’t want perfection… you don’t want perfection, we both want real and this is as real as it gets. Wrinkles, blemishes, nose hair and hang-ups… All of it.”

Arlene is just bloody fabulous, I adored her, strong willed, independent and fiercely loyal she was a joy to read, her altercations and interactions had me laughing out loud, Emma and Arlene could be me and my bestie talking! Seb was a bit of a sleeper for me, Gus and Caleb I was an immediate take me now! As Hundred to One progressed I was yeah I’ll take Seb as well. Dibs. They are a perfect match, I didn’t see it at first but as their pasts unfold and their relationship picks up speed then for me it was a real life fairytale. I don’t want to give spoilers but the ring is perfection and I’m fanning my face thinking of cold storage!

……………………………………

Against Me was a knockout. I never cry, my blog partner will be in tears, wailing like a demented woman and I’ll be all “yeah it was emotional” but to get a tear or lump in the throat from me is epic!

“Amazing how one moment you realise it isn’t so much how people treat you that holds the power, but how you interpret and react to the treatment.”

At the end of Caleb and Katie’s journey I was a mess. MOTHERFUCKING CAPS LOCK FULL ON MESS! It has so much emotion packed in and is written so flawlessly that it is not a story, it is a journey, a hard, messy, emotional journey that shreds you while having such beauty it’s outstanding. Yet again Ms Barker gives us a couple different in feel from the previous two, Caleb is a patient man, silently in the shadows waiting for his time with Katie. Katie is dealing with huge physical and emotional issues recovering after an incident so she’s feeling vulnerable and has a loss of confidence. Watching these two come together and the development of the relationship was a joy, Caleb is my favourite type of book boyfriend – throw in the suspense, intrigue, feels, plus a secondary cast who interweave throughout again and you have a recipe that is mouth-watering and delivers. Doesn’t harm that again it’s as hot as fuck with almost a bit of kink thrown in, grab those batteries because OH LA LA that boy, panties not needed! My favourite so far and a reread for many years to come.

……………………………………

And so to Clean Lines – Joe and Naomi’s book. The development of the storyline as a whole in Clean Lines is fabulous, SO much going on! And a total shocker of a surprise I never saw coming. Joe and Naomi have been dancing round each other due to misunderstandings for a while, Joe doesn’t help his own cause a lot of the time (typical man!) and Naomi, to be fair, worries too much and won’t take a chance. Their dance is very different again to the three previous couples but just as engaging, a determined to fix his mistake Sheriff and a determined to do right for herself and her child Mom, romance way down her list of priorities leads to some interesting misunderstandings and complications.

……………………………………

The overwhelming factor for me that makes all of these such an enjoyable read is the amazing banter between all the characters, primary and secondary. The affection, humour and love shines through, the teasing, flirting, arguing, dirty sexy talk and insults flung around through these books make them a pleasure to experience. Like every family, whether blood or choice, they will frustrate and exasperate you – you will be rooting for them while screaming at them!

Kindle and the indie writing world gave me Kristen Ashley and Madeline Sheehan, I now add Freya Barker to the “I don’t need the cover or blurb because it’s an automatic one click on the strength of the author alone” list. There is no better compliment I can give to Ms Barker other than Thank You, you have created characters that will remain in my heart and memories for a long time to come, an outstanding series.

And oh yeah, dibs on Clint. Just saying!!!!!

Cedar Tree just keeps getting better book after book. The biggest thing I respect is the fact that Freya consistently including her characters into each in every book. It is like she knows her readers are invested in the dynamics of the Cedar Tree family.

Sheriff Joe and "Doc" Naomi are no strangers to the Cedar Tree family, now this is their story. This couple's story is all about intrigue, mystery, family, lust, and a side dish of a jealous delusion bitch. If you are looking to continue to enjoy the lives of Cedar Tree...stop by and read about these two.

Just when I thought I had read the best book Freya Barker had written so far in the series, she proved me wrong. The fictional town of Cedar Tree has really grown on me and I hope to see more books in the series. The first three books were awesome stories but somehow in this book the author seems to really have hit her stride. I love romantic suspense stories and Ms. Barker is a master at spinning them well. Her characters are down to earth and well developed. Her plot is well paced and suspenseful, and by the way the sex scenes are sizzling.

In the first three books I wasn't a huge fan of Sheriff Joe, especially the animosity he showed Naomi. I knew there was a backstory there and Ms. Barker lays it all out. Joe is human and made mistakes, which he takes full ownership of. However, even when he tried to be cantankerous with Naomi, he still was attracted to her. Once the backstory is revealed and some nasty ex husband issues are brought to light. Naomi and Joe form a mutual loving bond that gets them through some really deep crap. Poor Naomi isn't just saddled with a passion for Joe, she also has a teenage son that was returned unexpectedly by his father. There are plot twists that I didn't see coming, which for me is the mark of a well crafted story.

I live in a small town and have similar relationships with my friends. We always support each other and are never afraid to give someone a good swift kick in the rear when they need it. The same is true in Cedar Tree. All of the past characters pop in and out of Clean Lines. Here's hoping for another Cedar Tree book soon.

Clean Lines is another wonderful story from this author! I all but devoured it from start to finish.

Fans of the series will be familiar with Joe and Naomi. For those of you new to the Cedar Tree family, Joe is the county sheriff, and Gus from GFI and hero of Slim to None is his best friend. Naomi is an ER doctor who has become close to Emma, Arlene and Katie (the ladies of the previous 3 books) over the past few years. Joe and Naomi noticed each other years ago but their first date was a miserable failure when misunderstanding and miscommunication resulted in a premature end to it. Although Joe tried to explain over the past 3 years, Naomi is very good at holding a grudge and shutting him out no matter what he tries or what her friends try to tell her.

Naomi thinks life is about to get more interesting when her 16 year old son Fox is sent back from Phoenix by her dirt bag ex to live with her because - let's face it - most 16 year old boys aren't usually a sparkling ray of sunshine on a good day. She just doesn't expect exactly how interesting life is about to get! Fox's dad is a high profile criminal attorney and it seems as though something related to his work may be the real reason Fox was sent back to Colorado and his mom but Fox isn't talking. When Joe steps in to try to keep Fox out of a sticky situation, Naomi decides maybe it's time to listen to that explanation after all and give the man a chance.

Naomi is definitely a spitfire, and the woman knows how to throw attitude without a doubt. There are a few times she nearly goes a little too far as escalating events surrounding Fox stress her beyond her breaking point, but fortunately for her, Joe likes her particular brand of sass and recognizes her reaction for what it is. And her girls Emma, Arlene and Katie bring her back down to earth when she starts getting carried away.

Joe has a wonderfully sexy side we haven't seen from him before - add in the caring, protective way he interacts with both Fox and Naomi and the dirty talking that emerges when the moment calls for it and he is just as swoonworthy as any if the men in this series to date! As he explains his history to Naomi, my heart broke a little bit for him too. For a man that has no kids, he is wonderful with Fox and handles him in a way that seems to be spot on most of the time. Fox had the ability to steal the show a few times too!

All of the Cedar Tree family members we have met so far play a part in the story, and I am dying to know whose story is coming up next! Clint and Beth are an option that appears to have all the hallmarks of a tumultuous ride, and Caleb's brother Malachi aka Mal may have just met a person of interest too. Ah, give me a moment while I swoon over Mal... *sigh* I am loving everything I have seen about that man so far and I am anxiously awaiting his story! As Freya can attest I have called dibs on that hottie all for myself LOL.

If you haven't started reading this wonderful series yet, I can't recommend it enough! The characters are complex and loving, the camaraderie between the group is heartfelt, the pages get steamy along the way, and there is some action along the way too. Go get your 1-click finger in action!

The wonderful Freya has done it yet again. I have fallen completely in love with Joe, Naomi and Fox while feeling like I was one of the Cedar Tree crew. She has this way of drawing you right in her books so you feel like you are at home.

Joe has been a staple in the Cedar Tree series as the Sheriff who has helped with all their issues over the past few years, Gus's best friend keeps him in close contact. He is a stand up guy who is willing to do all that he can for his friends. Years ago when a new nurse came to town she caught his eye. One bad experience left a bad taste and Joe and Naomi have stayed clear of each other while keeping an eye from affar.

Naomi settled into Cedar Tree with the notion of getting her life back together while giving her son Fox a stable environment to grow up in. When he is sent back to her by his father with no explanation things slowly spin out of control. Before she knows it she is dealing quite a bit with one handsome sheriff. A reminder that sometimes the truth is shaded and we don't always take time to see the truth in a situation.

Can Joe and Naomi move past that one date gone bad? Is there a way for these two very loving, caring individuals to find peace in each other?

Can't wait for some more Cedar Tree activity.

I was pulled right into this story. The story has laughs, suspense, kidnapping, murder, and heartbreak.

If you have not read the below I would recommend reading those books(s) first
Slim To None (Cedar Tree Series Book 1)
Hundred To One (Cedar Tree #2)
Against Me (Cedar Tree #3)

This is Naomi and Joe’s story. Naomi and Joe went on a date years ago but it all went crazy. Now she believes he is a cheater. When danger comes to her door can she trust him to protect her? She already knows he can’t be trusted with her heart or can he? When he risks everything to protect her and her son will she finally believe that he wants her and no one else? What happens when his past comes for them? Will they come out of the aftermath together or apart? Will she be able to trust him finally?

I felt I was able to connect with the characters and the story was a great read.

I recommend this book.

Clean Lines is my favorite in the series so far. I'm a sucker for a single parent trope, and I loved everything about Joe. The way he never gave up on Naomi, even though it was his mis-communication that had her running. He was great with her son. I also enjoyed his few moments of jealousy behavior he displayed. And last but not least, his protectiveness.

Naomi was that strong heroine this author is known to give her audience. She had a few issues she had to get over to really accept Joe, but I never felt like it was too much. Fox, her son, wasn't the most lovable kid but he had his own issues that stemmed from a not-so-great father. You do get to see him soften with Naomi's mothering touch.

Loved seeing all the gang from previous books. On to the next in the series.

Freya delivers smoking hot suspense in this 4th installment of the Cedar Tree series.
Four years ago Joe and Naomi had a disastrous first date. That misunderstanding has conspired to keep them apart until Naomi's ex-husband dumps danger at her door. Now it's up to Joe (and the hot alpha crew to protect her).
Love the characters. They are realistic and the suspense is well crafted. As always Ms Barjer is equal parts suspense and heat. Nice to revisit the gang at Cedar Tree. Love this author and series!

Another great story by Freya Barker. This one is about 2 people who tried to date, but things just got in the way. Then 3 years later, fate stepped in again, to let them know she wasn't done with them yet. Let's just say fate can sometimes play a cruel joke on you, and make you work for your relationship you're meant to have. Talk about anything and everything that could happen, does happen. But like the old saying goes, What doesn't kill you makes you stronger. In this case it's literal.

Brilliant! A wonderful addition to the Cedar Tree series. Freya Barker creates such real characters that you can't help but fall in love with them.
I loved watching Joe and Naomi finally get together. Their past is explained and their way to happiness is filled with bumps and road blocks. Seeing them try and stumble makes it more real and believable. I adore their passion for each other. They make you smile.

Book four in the cedar tree series, brings us the romance of Joe and naomi. We know Joe as the sheriff from the other books and Naomi as the top ER doctor from all the other books. We don't really know much of Joe or Naomi's story until this book. But is quite interesting to read. How is her son tied in with events that happened in this book? I guess you have to read on and see. I have to say that this was a great book to read. And each book in the series gets better and better. It's fun to get to know these characters.

I've been uber picky recently about my books. This series is awesome. The stories are great. The writing is very good. The books are LONG so there is no rushing through the story. The narration is spot on. I thought I wasn’t a fan of Tanya Eby but she killed it reading these books. Noel Harrison also did a fantastic job bringing these characters to life. Did I have a favorite book in the series… nope, they were all great.

Well hell....Freya's gone and done it again!!!

I've loved the Cedar Tree books since I picked up Slim to None and this series had just gotten better and better as it's progressed. Clean Lines is another fantastic read!!!

This is Joe and Naomi's story. We were introduced to both characters in the earlier Cedar Tree books and knew that there was some kind of history between them and it was interesting to find out just what had happened in the past.

Naomi is a great character. A hard working, strong, independent lady who is a single mum of a teenage son, oh yeah, she also has a distinct lack of trust when it comes to the opposite sex... admittedly she's got reason to feel as she does and Joe, silly bugger that he can be, doesn't give her any more reason to trust him when they first try to get together.... talk about misunderstanding and lack of communication.........

and so to Joe - he's the local sheriff and and an all round good guy, who unfortunately has had a slight tendency to bugger things up when it comes to Naomi. The bloke hasn't had the easiest of times when it comes to relationships - gods has he made some poor choices where women are concerned - but when it comes to Naomi, following 3 years of her pretty much ignoring and avoiding him, he's hellbent on making things right between them following their earlier disaster!

The budding relationship was fab to follow - and as ever with Freya's writing, it felt very natural, real, is heartwarming and so very hot, steamy and sexy!!

Aside from the development of things between our lead characters, we found out what happened to make Fox, Naomi's son, return to live with her after being with his dad for a while ~ this plot-line was fast paced, full of suspense, drama and action.

Our well loved characters from the series were once again present and as entertaining and involved in the action as you'd expect!! We also met some new characters (one in particular I wanted to slap senseless every time she appeared!!) and got an idea of which couple we're likely to read about next - oh, I can't wait for more from the Cedar Tree gang!

I've said it before and I'll say it again.... one of the biggest draws for me when it comes to these books is how real Freya makes the characters feel, I could so imagine being friends with them.
They aren't perfect, they make mistakes, have problems and issue that they need to deal with and overcome but, when it comes down to it, they are a real family who will do whatever it takes to help one of their own (yeah, it's a family of choice not design but that's what makes them all the more special)

Ok, I'm gonna stop here...

Each book could be read as a standalone but you'll enjoy them so much more if you start at the beginning and read them as a series!

Clean Lines is probably my favorite of the series. It is a close tie up with Caleb's story in Against Me. Clean Lines is the story of Naomi and Joe. If you haven't read the series I suggest you start out with Slim to None. That way you understand what is happening in the following books. Clean Lines is about honesty, second chances, and family. Freya Barker brings real characters to real readers. That is her talent in writing the Cedar Tree Series.

The story starts off with the initial meeting of Joe (the Sheriff of Cedar Tree) and Doctor Naomi. Sparks fly until Naomi finds out the secret Joe has been keeping. For three years there is strife between these two. Enough that Naomi makes a vow to keep away from him and other men. Let's just say that Joe didn't keep that same vow and the consequences are forced upon Naomi everyday at work.

Naomi is a single mother of a teenage son, Fox. Fox is struggling and goes off to live with his father in Phoenix, Arizona. One day, Naomi gets a call from her ex-husband that Fox is on a one-way trip back to Naomi. When Fox arrives he is sullen and refuses to talk about what happened with his father. Danger soon enters Naomi and Fox's life, and Joe makes it his mission to protect them. That is if the dueling duo can fix the past.

Clean Lines is extremely adrenaline seeking and fast paced. There really are no slow times. About 50 percent into the book the climax begins to build until the story becomes highly explosive. It becomes really hard to tear yourself away from the story.

Naomi, Joe, and Fox are easy to relate to and their issues are not outlandish. Learning to forgive as well as work together and find positive ways of communication is a few of their challenges.

Readers still get a chance to see more from the GFI team as well as many townspeople that readers came to love as the series has progressed. Each book brings new people that we get to enjoy, and I am excited to see who will be the next to catch the Cedar Tree love bug.

I was lucky enough to receive an ARC of this book from the author for an honest review.

Freya has done it again with this one. I want to live in Cedar Tree! Her characters are real, well written and realistic with a good dose of suspense thrown in. I was completely thrown by the twists and turns in this book and it always keeps you guessing!

In this latest installment Joe gets his story. We have met Joe throughout the three previous books and I was looking forward to this one. I wanted to know what happened between Joe and Naomi in the past and what was keeping them apart when there was obvious chemistry between them.

The story opens with Naomi’s son Fox returning to Cedar Tree after living with his father, he is sent back unexpectedly and refuses to talk about what happened. This results in trouble following him and putting both him and Naomi in danger. When Naomi and Fox are pushed out of their home, she is forced to rely on Joe for help and support and into his arms. Joe is not complaining and proves to her that he isn’t the man she thinks he is. Throughout the book we see Naomi soften towards Joe and see their relationship blossom despite people throwing roadblocks up along the way.

Naomi is another strong independent woman who does not take anything lying down. She will stand up for what she believes in and will got give up without a fight.

Joe is a fiercely loyal man who will fight for what he wants, once he gets what he wants he will fight with everything he has to keep it. He has waited a long time to get another chance with Naomi and he is not letting her go.

The secondary characters in this book are fantastic and really help the flow of the story. We meet up with old characters from previous books and see some potential for new books in the future. (I am hoping anyway!)

This book in the series gives us a look into the Doc and Sheriff Joe in Cortez. We get some glimpses at the beginning about Naomi (Doc) and what happened that brought her to Cortez. After her son is sent away to come and live with her, things get mighty interesting indeed. There's a bit of Mystery and Suspense in this one, especially when Joe finds her son where he shouldn't be. What happens when he breaks his wrist and has to be taken to the hospital where his mom works in the ED? What is her son not telling her about Phoenix when he was down there living with his father? What happened and where did the dad go? What happens with Naomi and Joe and her son up in Cedar Tree when someone from Phoenix gets his panties in a twist, thinking that the kid has something that he may or may not have that his dad gave him. What happens when Frank, his father, is found dead weeks later? It is rather interesting to watch how things play out and the craziness that can be women and men who get fixated on one thing or another. What happens when Naomi is one of those who has gotten fixated. You gotta read to see what she does that gets Naomi's son kidnapped. OMG, this was an intense book. Again, something I could not stop reading once I started tonight. Well worth the read. Now to start on Book 5. I suspect it will be one of three people, Craig, Malachai, or Neil that are featured in the next one. We'll see!

This series just keeps getting better, then again that may be because I always had a thing for Joe so this one may have been my favorite anyway. I kind of suspected what was going on with him after getting the preview to this book in the last one, guess that could because I know what it is like to have a crazy ex hanging around for about 25 years. Thankfully ours hasn't gotten quite that crazy!

I loved these two and how they finally worked their relationship out. I was a little annoyed with Naomi at times but I understand why she had the issues she did, I was mostly disappointed that it took years for her to listen. I guess I expected more of her but then again I expected more of Joe than the whole Jenna thing, good grief the man could pick them. Of course lots of men have been known to have that problem.... But he finally got it right with Naomi and she finally removed her head from her rear about Joe....and I enjoyed every minute of it.

I agree with another reviewer that I love that this series has older couples without all the angsty crap like so many books today. Granted nothing this exciting probably happens to many people so that may not be entirely relatable but everything else is so refreshing after getting so annoyed with a lot of books out there in this genre. I can't wait to see where we go next in Cedar Tree. I just hope Beth isn't quite as bad as Arlene...love her but damn she can be irritating. lol!

I was a little surprised at how much I liked this story. Barker somehow made a whole lot of things come together easily and without making her story clunky. Clean Lines easily stood on its own too, which only added to the enjoyment. There were characters who had their own stories before and at least a couple who are going to have one coming up, but none of it left me confused … just excited to get my hands on those stories.

I will say that I’m stunned that it took three years for Joe to find a way to fix things with Naomi. She’s got some history and it lead her to be prickly but surely in that amount of time, and with sharing friends, there would have been some way to get an explanation to her. He doesn’t seem like a guy who would be willing to let it go for that long. But that is my only complaint and Barker does try to explain it away.

Overall, though, it is a fantastic suspense romance. There’s a great amount of heat and angst between the two, plus they come with baggage that is fun to explore. But there is also a lot of danger and mystery surrounding her ex-husband and son. It made for a nail-biter in a couple of places … as well as a few spots to get your heart racing for other reasons :)

If sexy thrillers are your thing, I highly recommend you add Barker’s books to the top of your TBR pile. A fun read with interesting characters and a captivating plot, Clean Lines is a great place to start.

4 Stars!

Another hit by this author. When I started this series, I binge read all four of them in less than 48 hours. This series is absolutely amazing. They are romance with enough steam to make panties wet and enough suspense to keep you guessing until the end.

This book was awesome and definitely a hit though I didn't expect anything less. This book is real. Hell, this series is real. The people are normal and have issues we all face. No one is perfect and the flaws are real and run deep. This book will pull at your emotions.... no doubt.

This is Joe and Naomi's story. These two have history and it isn't so good. What could have been was over before it really began. But when Naomi is in danger, Joe decides to step in and be that man he wants to be. Joe wants Naomi and he is going to make her his . . . no matter what.

I loved Naomi. She was strong, sweet, but boy did that woman have fire in her. I also liked Joe. Oh he made me swoon with his alpha complex and over the top tendencies. He was fiercely protective and had quite a naughty mouth at times. And it was easy to connect with them and feel their love. I was rooting for these two.

This series has been a breath of fresh air to read. And I also love that this series is so interconnected we get to see our favorite couples from previous books along the way.

I recommend this book and series.

When her surly teenage son moves back to live with ER physician Naomi Waters unexpectedly, her motherly instincts go on high alert. Nothing could’ve prepared her for the wave of trouble that follows him back into her life.

Sheriff Joe Morris blew his chance with Naomi a few years back when he’d moved faster than his own past allowed. At the first opportunity to get his foot back in the door, he takes it and risks everything to keep her and her son safe.

But working for a future isn’t easy when you’re fighting to survive your past.

Okay when I finished Slim to None and said that it was my favorite but now I am changing my mind cause this one the story of Naomi and Joe is my favorite. This book was filled with lost of suspense and I could not put it down. For what Naomi and Joe have been through I was so glad to see them get their HEA. Thanks Freya. I hope that there will be more books from Cedar Tree. I have fall in love with the town and the people that are in it.
