Trace Of Darkness is full of exciting suspenseful paranormal with characters that are all consuming and intriguing.
It's an thrilling explosive book full of drama suspense and the passion is electric, the connection between Zacharias and Diana is just so freakin’ hot.
There's a line in this story that simply sums up the whole book……
"It was a slow, sensual seduction, an erotically charged, soul-devouring slow dance" and that's exactly what Trace Of Darkness is.
This is book 1 in the new paranormal series, RB nailed it, it’s that simple.
Both gripping, thrilling and passionate all the way throughout, this author definitely knows how to keep you gripped in the storyline with lots of action leaving you not wanting to go to bed without getting to the end, you’ll find yourself sat on the edge of your seat over and over until the very end.
Then you have a huge problem… When can we get book 2 ?

I haven’t read a good vampire romance in a long time. I found that lately, these books have become trite and predictable, which I find supremely boring. The heroine is always some damsel in distress that needs saving, or some over-the-top badass meant to kill all vampires. The vampires always follow a stereotype, being either too rich, too sexy, or too evil. However, this book was amazing! It is superbly written, with an interesting and well-developed plot, strong characterization, and phenomenal world-building. This book had my attention from start to finish, making it the best vampire romance I have read in a while.

I think what I loved most about this book is the diverse cast of characters. The author artfully built a world where all paranormal beings do not follow the same stereotype. For instance, the protagonist, Diana Duvail is a human with paranormal abilities, she is neither super badass nor a damsel in distress. Instead, she falls somewhere in the middle, which I absolutely loved. She is flippant and witty, even in the worst of circumstances. Her love interest, the master vampire Zacharias Wyle follows the stereotype of being super sexy, rich, and strong. However, other vampires in the supporting cast came in all shapes, sizes, looks and dispositions. This added a certain flavor to the story that I found irresistible.

I greatly enjoyed reading this book and would recommend it to all lovers of paranormal romance, regardless of one’s trope preference. This is the first book is the first in the Diana Duvail series, so not all my questions were answered. However, instead of ending on an abrupt cliffhanger, the author leaves you with a sense that the story is complete while also indicating that there is more to follow. This, alone, is a testament to RB Hilliard's superior writing skill and the reason I am looking forward to continuing reading this series.

Trace of Darkness by RB Hilliard a five-star read that will reveal more than you can ever imagine. This is the first story in the Diana Duvail series, and we need more Diana in our lives, she is strong, she is someone I am sure will keep us guessing all the way until the very end, I have a sneaky suspicion that she is keeping more secrets than even she knows. Zack is another one that I need to know more about, I think Diana will get lots of answers, but will they be the ones she deserves. This author knows how to keep you gripped; she knows how to keep the action, so you are on the edge of your seat, and bring a passion that keep your heart aflame from the first page until the last then long, long after you finish reading.

What a fantastic beginning to what looks to be a n incredible new paranormal series. I really don't read much paranormal these days but I happen to be a big fan of this author so when I heard she was writing something new I thought I'd give it a try. So glad I did. The world building was great. The characters are multidimensional and very believable.

I can't wait to see what happens next with Diana and Zack!

Phew.......I have to admit I didn't know what to expect when RB told us she was writing a PNR.
saying that as an AVID PNR reader, she absolutely hit the nail on the head.
Diana is absolutely the epitome of badass, saying that, Diana is one of my top Heroines.

Lets not even talk about the chemistry between her and Zacharias.
this book will absolutely 100% draw you in

I can NOT wait for the next in this series.

Wow…. This is a suspenseful, action packed PNR read. Once you start, you will not be able to put it down until you’ve finished it. There is an immediate, intense connection with Diana and Zacharias. This book had it all, suspense, romance, steam, an over the top alpha and twists and turns at every corner. I highly recommend this book! My only question, WHEN is the NEXT BOOK??!!

I don’t want to sound repetitive but there are things that I must say.
I’m not a paranormal girl. It’s an amazing genre for some but to me, it’s not my cup of tea.
There is only one thing that can make me read it, and that the author.
And this is the case.
This book is a paranormal one and it’s written by RB Hilliard. One of my favorite authors of all times so that’s a huge reason for me. Lol
Her writing is raw and wild, sweet, and beautiful at the same time.
Trace of Darkness is her latest release and it belongs to the Wicked Love: Frighten Me collection.
This new book explores Diana’s life.
Diana is a police officer that saw herself being transferred to the Paranormal unit after her partner had been killed in action.
Now she’s in danger and her savior is a Vampire.
When I was having a blast… It ended…
Why? Why so soon? I wanted to keep reading.
Great plot, very well written, super dark and mysterious, to say the least.
I loved Diana, she’s feisty and sassy.
There were parts of the book that I wanted to slap someone silly. Stubborn like hell. Dayum.
Then things would happen and I would lose the want to punish and gain the want to hold them close.
And guys… Hot stuff alert. Hell yeah.
I'm mad, I really am because I need more. I still have questions.
Why is it that when you're loving something it ends?
Why?
Overall it was a great book that I hope

I love the saying, “Expect the unexpected”. I feel like this was INSANELY true for this book! With that said, here’s my review!

Diana: She’s a cop who by the looks of her is like any other human. However, she has some special superpowers that she had since she’s been a kid. She’s been isolated because of it and mistreated. However, as a cop, those have helped her through some pretty insane situations. She’s at a place in her life where so much is crazy. She’s had an overwhelming amount of chaos hit her personal and professional life. She wants answers and will do what it takes to get those. The question is, whom will she have to go through in order to get answers? Her wit, snark, dedication, and loyalty make her an amazing character.

Zack: As the leader of his region of vampires, he has a job to do that’s not easy or to be taken lightly. He rules in a way to not only keep his region safe but the humans they’re surrounded by. It’s a careful balance that isn’t always easy to maintain. There’s a massive disappearance that is happening and he’s at a loss as to who, why, and how. He knows he can’t do this alone and is in need of special help. He reaches out to Diana in the hopes she can help him find the answers he needs in a more specialized and discreet way. His own silent strength is a draw for her.

Together: They go on a rollercoaster of a journey that brings some answers, but not enough. What is this serious attraction? Could it be fated mates? Who and what is causing the true disappearances throughout their region? They’ll discover more than either one of them ever expected.

Final thoughts: Holy shiznits and gumdrops! I can’t believe this is the author's first jump into PNR! It was exceptionally well done. I felt like there was a lot of information shared, but in a way where it didn’t feel like an info dump. It’s well written and so beautifully done. I loved it so much about this story. They’re an incredible couple but insanely interesting on their own. What I also loved is the promise for more to come without feeling like as a reader, I was left hanging. There was no massive cliffhanger that left me cursing the author. In my opinion, this was easily the BEST book the author has written to date. As an avid PNR reader and it is my go-to genre, this is one of the top two PNR I’ve ever read even. A darn good book and can’t wait for more.

I will be the first to admit I am a huge fan of RB Hilliard’s work. So I am not surprised, but I am excited to be able say Trace of Darkness was as excellent as I’d hoped for. Its everything I’ve come to expect when reading the words of this author.

Diana Duvall is a detective. She is also a puzzle I want to solve. We know she has some sort of psychic abilities that aren’t exactly human. But if she’s not completely human then what is she? She doesn’t even know. And I think that’s part of the fun of this story in discovering her talents as she herself uncovers them. She’s intelligent, sarcastic, stubborn and a teensy bit reckless, often flying by the seat of her pants. Shes caught the interest of the Vampire Lord. The curiosity of his seethe. And the respect from her co-workers at the PHD. This character and this story are like the layers of an onion. As you peal each one away you find even more interesting layers underneath.

But now I have a million questions I need the answers to. I want to know what Zach knows about her that she doesn’t? Because there’s a lot more, you know there is. And what is Tymon’s holding back? What are the stories behind the other members of the seethe?

I guess I wait for book two? Torture.

I must say I have never been a big reader of PNR but this book sucked me right in from the first page and all I can say is I want more!
This new series pulled me into a world I could actually visualize. Diana is a total badass! She has no filter and I just love her sass. Zacharias is a sexy alpha vampire who won me over from the start.
This book had it all, romance, suspense, twists and turns, steam and humor. The chemistry between Diana and Zacharias was explosive. This was a 5 star read for me.

I am a HUGE fan of PNR, but it has to be really good PNR. Well that describes Trace of Darkness by RB Hilliard. The world building in the first few chapter didn’t drag on and it wasn’t filled with what I call “fluff” (which is extra unneeded information used to increase word counts). It was purposeful and aided in painting a perfect picture of this new world that was being created. Diana and Zacharias aren’t a cookie cutter couple (thank god), they have depth and the banter between them is both spicy and hysterical. And the secondary characters….I NEED their stories!! Can’t wait for book 2!

Paranormal was not a genre that I was a huge fan of. In fact there are few authors/stories that I’ve read prior to this one. This story peaked my interest and made me a bigger fan. It’s suspenseful with a storyline that keeps you in it until the end. At the same time it’s unique and entertaining. I enjoyed every minute of this and recommend it to all fans of the paranormal.

If you love paranormal, suspense, and romance…this is one for you. Even those that don’t normally read this genre, you want to read this. The author takes all three and writes a story that keeps you all in from start to finish. There was a uniqueness to this story and even the character names were different. This is one I recommend you add, download, and read. Don’t miss out.

This is the first book I’ve read by this author but there was just something about the description that caught my attention and I had to buy it.

Diana Duvail has secrets. She’s not quite entirely human although what she is exactly remains a mystery even to herself. She’s a detective with the Charleston Police Department where the worst possible fate that could happen to a police officer is to be reassigned to the paranormal unit so she keeps quiet about her ‘unnatural’ abilities until one night and an encounter with vampires where everything goes wrong and her transfer is inevitable. Acting as a liaison between the unit and the Southern Vampire Organisation brings her into contact with Zacarias Wylde, the seductive and mysterious vampire head where the attraction between the two is almost magnetic albeit unwilling on Diana’s side.

The writing has a great balance of description and action, and unlike with so many other PNR stories, the plot doesn't take second place to the romance. Yes, there are plenty of steamy moments throughout the book but they aren’t just thrown in as filler because one was due. I loved that Diana is a strong female lead and didn’t lose her strength of character throughout the book especially after she slept with Zacharias. She still had the courage and tenacity to follow her instincts no matter what he said. Hopefully, going forward if this should develop into a series, this won’t change and should ensure that her relationship with the fearsome alpha vampire is one of equality. There is also rich supporting cast with layers and depths of their own especially Diana’s mysterious boss Tymon. I’m looking forward to finding out what secrets he’s hiding. The plot might seem a little stereotypical with humans going missing at the hands of vampires but I think there’s more to this than meets the eye and might be part of a larger picture we have yet to see.

This book has left me with so many questions. Not only what other secrets does Diana have but does Zacharias know more about her than he’s letting on? I’m also a bit hazy on the whole paranormal world side by side with the ‘human’ population. Law enforcement seem to be aware of the supernatural but in general it seems to be an unspoken secret that the general population knows about but daren’t speak about – a bit like Voldemort I suppose. Maybe I’m just seeing conspiracies where there aren’t any but I can’t wait to see how this series develops.

Author R.B. Hilliard is throwing her hat into the paranormal ring, and Trace of Darkness throws quite a punch! Even the non-paranormal lovers will fall in love with these characters as they fight against the dark side.

To get things started, we are introduced to Diana Duvail and given a sneak peek at her “specialness”. She is a bada$$ detective with a special sense in a city where ‘creatures’ of all kinds co-exist. Right out of the gate, the author teases us with questions as she introduces suspense and darkness into the mix. Vampires and werewolves have become commonplace in the city where women are disappearing. As they join the humans to solve the mysterious disappearances, more secrets and suspense keep you turning the pages.

The steam and chemistry heats up the pages when you are finally introduced to vampire lord, Zacharius. They have an otherwordly connection, and more will be uncovered as this series continues. Even if PNR is not your thing, the chemistry between these two will keep you hooked.

Their relationship is a lot of push and pull and filled with feisty banter as Diana holds her own while Zack attempts to keep her in check. They are a perfect match, and I can’t wait to see where this series takes them. Diana has so many layers to her that are not yet revealed, so I’m super curious to see them all.

Book two promises to deliver more of Zack and Diana’s story, as well as revealing many other mysteries that have yet to be uncovered. Trace of Darkness is an original tale with many puzzle pieces yet to be discovered. Book one doesn’t leave you hanging, just thirsty for more.

💜🌼Trace of Darkness💜🌼
I’ve never been a big fan of paranormal or supernatural…I rarely understand what’s going on…it’s just never been my thing…but, occasionally, an author I love will write one and I’ll read it…Trace of Darkness is one of those books…I love RB Hilliard’s writing, so I gave it a read.. and I actually liked it..💜🌼
Zacharias (his picture is in the dictionary next to the words “alpha male”) is a super powerful vampire in charge of…well, pretty much everything in the supernatural world..…and Diana (I’m not sure what she is…but she’s not quite human) is a cop…These two have feelings for each other and smoking chemistry…and, seriously, I could hear the record scratch the first time she called him Dracula..so funny..💜🌼
If you are a paranormal reader, for sure, don’t miss this one..if you are like me, and it’s not really your thing…I’m gonna recommend you read it anyway…because I liked it....💜🌼

When it comes to paranormal romances I sit on the fence, it isn't my go to trope however I gave this book a go and I am so glad I did. Trace of Darkness intertwines the romance alongside the mystery of the paranormal world in a way that you are enchanted by the storyline. The chemistry and connection between Diana and Zacharias is out of this world and has the pages on fire at times. Diana is a character with her own strength and one that doesn't waiver. Their story at times has your mind reeling and at times possibly overthinking but that all keeps you invested in the story and captivated by the words. There are secrets, angst, twists and turns and plenty of questions to be answered. A great start to this series and one that has me holding on and waiting for more from this couple.

This is my first book by RB Hillard and I LOVED it.
Her female character, Dianna, isn't some damsel in distress, she's kickass. The hero, Zack... if we can call him that... is all alpha and I can't wait to see where this series goes.
If you like paranormal, vampire books then you won't be disappointed.

Suspenseful

She’s not who they think she is. . .

Diana Duvail is an officer with the Charleston Police Department. Her reputation as a hard-working, by the book, team player is well known. But Diana’s got a secret.

While on patrol, the unimaginable happens; her secret is revealed, and she finds herself reassigned to the paranormal unit. Little does she know, but her world is about to be turned upside down.

When bodies start showing up all over the city, Diana is forced to liaise with the Southern Vampire Organization. Zacharias Wylde is a powerful, sexy vampire lord who not only shakes her existence but shows her a new and exciting reality.

Can Zack help Diana figure out what’s turned Charleston into a hunting ground, or is Diana destined to become one of the hunted?

This is the best PNR book that I’ve read in awhile. I very much enjoyed it!

Diana isn’t sure exactly what she is as she was adopted. But she can see ghosts, see a shifters animal even when they are in human form and she “feels” when vampires are near. She can put up mental shields to keep supernaturals from finding her or trancing her.

She’s a detective for the supernatural police force. One of the crimes she’s investigating has her working the the Lord of the vampires seethe. They are mates but she’s fighting it with all that is her. The banter between she and Zack is hilarious at times. Her determination to do things her way leads to his saving her life and rescuing her numerous times.

I highly recommend this book! I so hope at some point there is a sequel to this book. I need more Zack and Diana and the supernatural police force staff!!

This is a fun, fast paced, action packed paranormal mystery/suspense.

There are loads of interesting characters, the story is well written. I’m not sure if this was a first in the series but seems it might not be but the back story was so well done that it wasn’t an information dump and really made you want to know more. Then it moved forth into the current story where Diana is working for the Paranormal/Human services and only woman on the team. She basically moped around until she is asked to join a case by the Vampire king of the South Division. That’s when the book really picks up.
It’s fun trying to figure out what some of these characters are like Tymon her boss and who is really behind the missing women ( that was a shocker)
There are twists and turns and I read this book in one night.
Though the current case had a defined closure there were lots of loose ends so I think this could be an ongoing series ( I hope) because I really want more.

I love when R.B. puts out a new book I know it's something that will take me away to another world and keep the pages turning. Trace of darkness doesn't disappoint I got so caught up that my hubby got up just as I was finished and said it was that good huh yep it truly was.
Diana is spicy sassy and a character that will trap you into her world
Zack doesn't know how to deal with her as she gives him that curious feeling that he hasn't known in too long. With Diana's spiciness and Zack strong super sexiness you can't help but fall in love with them. Then you add the secondary characters that you hope will be coming to light in their own story soon ( hopefully way soon) you end up with a book that gives you twists turns a really cool world to go along with it and a fantastic read. A read all of us readers love and is so hard to find lately.

So good!!!

I was so excited to get my hands on this story because it was something different than the author usually writes. I have to say I was pleasantly surprised it went beyond my expectations and I loved every minute of it. I thought it was great how the story started out dipping our toes into the paranormal world and to a great job of setting up the rest of the story. I love Diana's character and got so hooked into following her into the story from the very beginning. Overall I thought this was a fantastic read and would definitely be reading more paranormal from this author.

The Start of Something Awesome!!

Diana, an officer for the Paranormal Human Division, is out for revenge after her partner is killed by a vampire. Her quest leads her into the arms of the Vampire Lord of the South who will do anything in his power to keep her alive. Unfortunately Diana has her own plans and isn't going to make it easy for him.

This is a great start to a new series. Fast paced, full of humour and characters I've already fallen in love with. Very excited to see what happens next.

Intriguing series starter

This was more than I expected. I still don’t understand all of the in ands out of the paranormal world that the author created but what dun it is to learn about. Diana is learning about this world as she goes along and so does the reader. She doesn’t know everything and neither do we. The relationship? Between Zack and Diana is very adversarial but Diana makes almost everyone into an adversary. I am looking forward to the next book. Bummer….I just looked and this was releases Fall 2021 and no mention of another book yet
