In the final story in the long running Whales and Tails series, a couple is wed, a baby is born, a prophecy is fulfilled, and Cait and Cody help Finn investigate the disappearance of three men during the storm of the century.
Kathi lives with her husband, kids, grandkids, and dogs in beautiful Lake Tahoe. When she isn't writing, Kathi likes to read (preferably at the beach or by the fire), cook (preferably something with chocolate or cheese,) and garden (planting and planning not weeding). She also enjoys spending time on the water when she's not hiking, biking, or snowshoeing, the miles of desolate trails surrounding her home. Kathi uses the mountain setting in which she lives, along with the animals (wild and domestic) that share her home, as inspiration for her cozy mysteries.

This book has many wonderful characters that finish off this series that I enjoyed. The storyline will keep you reading till the last page with so many twists and turns. The ending will finish with what happens as life goes on for all. Will miss reading this series alot.
It's a shame that the author decided to end this series, but at least the good residents of Madrona Island can sleep easy for the next seventeen years, after the body count of the last five!
I love this series and this, the final book, is one of the very best of all. The mysteries abound in this book. A terrific storm strands a fishing boat, but its occupants are nowhere to be found. A cat dashes off the boat as it is towed ashore, but it is not one of the usual cats that seems to always arrive to help Cait solve murders. The characters in this series are warm, lovable and very realistic. Not that they don't all have their own little human quirks and issues. They are perfectly imperfect. All in all, a wonderful blend of magic, romance and mystery add up to make this book and the whole series a winner. These books can each be read as a stand alone, but to me, they are the most enjoyable when read in order.
In this last book of the series Cait and Cody are helping Finn look into three fisherman who have gone missing. Their boat has been found but there is no evidence to show what exactly happened to the men and where they disappeared to. Along the way Cait crosses path with another feline who helps in making a prophecy come true. The gang does what it does best and puts the clues together to figure out just what happened and what caused it all to go down the way it did. This was a wonderful ending to a truly great series. This was a favored among all her series and I'm sad to see it end bit she did a great job in making it all feel right by the end.
CATastrophe in the Making is the twenty-first book in Kathi Daley’s Whales and Tails Mystery series. This is the last book in one of my favorite series, and Ms. Daley has done an excellent job of wrapping up loose ends and giving readers a satisfying peek into the characters’ futures. This clean and easy read is steadily paced, has a well-plotted storyline, three-dimensional characters who are affable, and sends a powerful message of the importance of family, friendship, and community. The mystery is intriguing and complex, with no shortage of red herrings and twists to keep the reader engaged. I highly recommend all Ms. Daley’s books to anyone who enjoys a well-crafted, cozy mystery.
High winds and torrential downpours have descended upon Madrona Island, and Cait Hart-West’s brother-in-law, Deputy Ryan “Finn” Finnegan, has his hands full with road closures, flooding, rescues, and evacuations. After the rescue barge tows an unmanned charter fishing boat, the Fish Stalker, into the marina near Coffee Cat Books, Cait and her husband, Cody, help Finn investigate the disappearance of the crew. The owner and crew of the Fish Stalker, Crawley Carson, Hammerhead Hitchcock, and Meatball Michaelson, are nowhere to be found, but a cat dashes off the vessel and ends up at the house Cait and Cody share with Mr. Parsons. Thinking the cat has arrived to help solve the mystery, Cait contacts her witchy friend, Tansy, who tells her that the cat’s name is Delphi but that she wasn’t sent to help find the missing men but to fulfill a prophecy.
This is sadly the final book in the Whales and Tails series. Cait and Cody are helping Finn investigate the disappearance of three fishermen. The boat was discovered during the storm of a century, but what happened to them may be even more mysterious. Then there's a couple getting married, a baby being born, and a cat showing up to start a prophecy.
I absolutely LOVE this series and this book is a prime example of why. This is my favorite of all the series that Kathi writes and, while I am bummed that it's ending, this was a fantastic way of wrapping things up. I was drawn into the engaging story from the beginning and kept captivated until the end. It was fun to visit Cait and the gang again. The book's well-written with wonderful characters and a mystery that'll keep you guessing. This book just shows why Kathi is a queen of the cozy mystery in my opinion. I highly recommend both book and series which is best when read in order.
CATastrophe in the Making is the twenty-first book in the Whales & Tails cozy mystery series and the final book in the series. I have always enjoyed a trip to Madrona Island to visit with Cait and Cody and I will miss the mysteries and the investigations. Ms. Daley has such an easy writing style that I fall immediately into each story and don't resurface until I've reached the end. A creative and intricate web of a plot, several twists that stunned me and several suspects that appeared shady at best kept me turning the pages. The epilogue was a delight to read as it provided a glimpse into the future of Cait and Cody and the rest of the sleuthing gang.
When a cat shows up in this series it usually means a life ending event. This time a stow-away cat is found on an abandoned boat, the owner and crew are missing. Local witch Tansy knows the cat but says its appearance is not about murder, rather something more far reaching and life altering for the community. Is this the end for a readers' favorite series? What about the characters we've come to know and care about as good friends? Is this really goodbye?
Full of family and friends, as we've come to enjoy in Kathi Daley's series, this book features a storm and many challenges even to the trained professionals. Cait and Cody's help is welcomed in solving the mysteries and life changing events that happen during the weather storm. The news the mystery cat delivers is bitter sweet. Questions are answered, story lines are wrapped up, but there is a sense of good things still to come.
CATastrophe in the Making is the 21st and final episode in the delightful Whales and Tails Cozy Mystery series. Kathi Daley writes yet another magnificent installment, filled with elements of a cozy mystery including suspense, romance, humor, love, friends and family, and a sense of community. In this story, Cait works with her friends and family, for the last time, to solve the mystery of the disappearance of three fishermen and to expose the identity of a murderer. As always, Ms. Daley’s writing flows smoothly, and her setting and relatable characters make for an extremely enjoyable read. The Furever After epilogue, which is so awesome, gives a snapshot of what the future holds for these charming characters.
CATastrophe in the Making ( Whales and Tails #21 ) By: Kathi Daley CATastrophe in the Making is the twenty-first book in the series Whales and Tails. Sadly to say this is the last book in the series. I loved the story and the characters, both are well written and well developed. Ms Daley has did an excellent job in getting all the loose ends wrapped up. Three fishermen goes missing from their boat in one of the worst storm in the century. This mystery has everyone searching for clues as to what has happened to them. Cait and Cody are trying to find answers. A Baby is born, a couple getting married , and a prophecy is fulfilled. This is one story you do not want to miss out on.
This book was a bittersweet read for me as its the conclusion to an awesome series and I had to say goodbye to some great book friends - both two legged and four legged. This book included the current events in the series characters lives, an intriguing mystery with twists and surprises, and a prophecy introduced and fulfilled. I love that the author shared what the future holds for my book friends and their families - awesome closure and some intriguing news. Well done, Kathi Daley, and thank you for this awesome series - loved every minute of it.
Things will come to a full circle as the series comes to a conclusion. We will experience a wedding, the birth of a baby, and a prophecy is fulfilled.
Cat and Cody will help Finn investigate a disappearance of three men during a storm. As another cat appears in their lives once again as they try to find the missing crew.
It is a satisfying wrap up in this long running series that will be missed.
I'm so sad this series is ending. It was one of my favorites. Maybe there'll be a new series to carry on just as Tansey predicted. I'm truly going to miss this delightfully wonderful series!!!!!! Thank you for all the sometimes intense, some- times humorous, sometimes long nights I couldn't put the books down and all the fun of reading this series!!
I loved all 21 books and especially the last one as it brought everyone together and brought out how the magic cats came to Cait and will be passed on. The magic cats on the island was very interesting. Thank you for these wonderful books. I have am still am reading every series you have written and always look forward to the next book to arrive. Thank you for making me smile and enjoy the time I have for reading. Sharon
I love Kathi Daley's books. She has a very special talent. This book was full of surprises and intrigue, like all of her books. The mysteries and magical cats are unique to this series and I am really going to miss them. I tried, as usual, to solve this case, but couldn't figure it out. This book had it all, mysteries, murder, magic, weddings, and babies. I loved the adventure. I'm kinda sad that it's over.
Delphi the cat appears to help Cait with a prophecy not to find out who murdered who. This has been a wonderful series to read and I enjoy starting at book one and reading them in order. Kathi Daley writes well and her books draw the reader into the plot of the book. I have read many of her series; each have been filled with intrigue and charactets who care about each other.
A local fisherman has decided to trap magical cats and sell them. The cats aren't on board with his plan, and two men end up dead and a third ends up in the hospital. It's up to Cait, Cody and Finn to solve the mystery along with Finn's wife giving birth. The end is awesome!
I can't believe this is the end of this wonderful series by Kathi Daley . I'm sure going to miss Cait , Cody ,Tansey and all the wonderful characters that have become friends. I hope Kathi will start a new one with Rosalyn and Salem. One can hope anyway. Thank you Kathi Daley for a wonderful ride to a wonderful magical island .
Whales and Tails Mystery book 21: Catastrophe in the Making.
This final book in the Whales and Tails mysteries is excellent. The group investigate three missing men. A baby is born, a wedding takes place, and a prophecy is fulfilled. All very exciting and I hope a new series in the future will happen. A must read!!
I have loved all the stories of the Hart family and friends from the very beginning. Cait has been like a best friend and the magical cats have been delightful. Kathi Daley has been gifted with amazing storytelling abilities. I love everything she has written and sincerity thank her for so much joy.
catastrophe in the Making was a great book like all of the books in the series. It makes me sad because when you get to the end of the book, you realize that it really is THE END! It's the end of the series and that really makes me sad because it's one of my favorite Kathi Daley series.
Fine ending to this series. I enjoyed the usual pulling together of the family to solve crimes. Tansy is an interesting character and adds to the story. The old men on the docks were fun people to read about. Recommend this one.
If asked which Kathi Daley series I like best, I’d answer “the one I’m currently reading”, as I really enjoy them all. Truth be told, though, Whales and Tales is my favorite. I’m so sad to see it end, but Kathi has a wonderful way of wrapping up the story in a neat, happy package. I admit to shedding some happy tears at the ending, taking comfort in knowing that my favorite characters will live happily ever after.
I have loved all the mysteries that Cait has solved with the help of Cody and the growth their relationship has taken. The ending conclusion just rounded off the story in a most satisfying way.
This was an exciting and beautiful book filled with susp ence, twists and and turns. I lo and e the paeanormal aspects of the book the characters and the storyline.
Couldn't ask for a better ending, a real surprise to know what happens to everyone instead of the eternal cliffhanger. Thank you for writing it that way!
A perfect, simple story to end the Whales and Tails mystery series! I shall miss Cait & the “magical cats!” But, then again, aren’t all cats really magical, so the story never really ends?!
The final book in the long running series with Cait and her magical cats. I'm so sad that this series is being curtailed, but happy to hear some descendants of the characters we've come to know and love will be appearing in a future new series. I for one can't wait!!!
Kathi Daley writes the best cozy mystery series, try one of her others, they're really worth it.
These books are best read in order of publication to preserve continuity of the characters and series.
