If you want to know WHY 2-Funds-for-Life strategies increase likely lifetime returns by 25% to more than 130%, and what you need to do to reap those benefits? Then this deep-dive owner’s manual is for you!
For an introduction to the 2-Funds-for-Life strategy, read We’re Talking Millions by Merriman and Buck.
We’re all wired to invest for the future, but when it comes to personal finance few of us know how. How much should I save? How much risk can I take? How does risk tolerance change with age? How can I get the most while risking the least? How complex does it have to be? Could I really do everything I need with just two funds?
2-Funds for Life is a quest to answer these questions and show definitively that simple approaches can match, beat, or even trounce more complex ones.

A book I wish I had read 30 years ago (it was not around then but still)! OMG good.
Another great financial book by one of the key brains in the Boggle Head Community.
Paul Merriman (in the forward) challenged Chirs Pendersen to come up with a simplified version of the "Ultimate Buy and Hold Fund Setup" and Chris the number guy behind so much of the Boggle Head community did. His idea and the numbers behind it are in this book. Reading this book will give you an understanding of WHY to do certain things in your financial (retirement planning) that will forever change your life.
You might want to read Paul Merriman's book "We're Talking. Millions! 12 Ways to Supercharge Your Retirement" first since. BTW both of these books can be found online for free (given away by the authors)
To say I love this book is an understatement. This book does a brilliant job of giving the numbers on why and the information. I am someone who needs to understand WHY I need to do something. Some of the keys of this book I know and religiously follow (index investing with low cost brokers like Vanguard, Fidelity or Charles Schab) but some of the other information is newer to me...
If you are someone who needs to understand the WHY then this is the book for you... I for one especially when it comes to finance needs to understand WHY I should be investing this way or that... this book tells you.

VERY detailed and, thus, a pretty intense read. Presents, very well, the case for using a Target Date Fund coupled with a Small Cap Value fund as the only two funds needed for both a life long investing journey as well into retirements. The very dense backtest forms were, for me, to hard to digest and I'm a very technical engineer and experienced investor.
A great follow-up to Paul Merriman's "We're Talking Millions." A bit more on the nerdy side, and the graphs can get a bit intimidating, but a wonderful strategy presentation for any DIY investor on potentially one of the most effective risk-return portfolios out there.
Investing for many of us need not have so much drama or heartburn. You will do yourself and your family a huge favor by studying and considering the idea put forth by Chris Peterson.
A minimalist approach to investing. A large percentage invested into a low cost target date fund and a smaller one into a small-cap value fund. The portfolio is rebalanced as we age.
