This book is a 1991 reprint of a title originally published in 1983. Picked up with the 11YO because it sounded interesting. Ultimately it was disappointing, with many entries that are outdated, repetitive, contradictory, and/or confusing (with the occasional parenthetical remark by the author).

Could be quite interesting with editing and a good deal more research.

For an encyclopaedia of superstitions this is not particularly exhaustive of the subject but does contain some interesting entries.
