Clemmie Phelps has been in love with Joey ever since they were children, when he turned up at her family’s door, lost and abandoned. However, due to her shy nature, she has never been able to confess to him her real emotions. Time is now running out as Joey has placed an ad for a mail-order bride. Will Clemmie be able to accept this turn of events or will she eventually take action to claim his heart?
She might find a miracle if she just opens her heart...
Joey Sawyer has been extremely lucky to have ended up on the Phelps's front porch who welcomed him in and made him the man he is today. Still struggling to get rid of the nightmares from his past, he tries to move forward and make his own family. Although he treasures his relationship with Clemmie, he knows he can never be by her side in respect of her parents. But will he ever be happy next to another woman?
Fate is not something that he can define…
As they both struggle to overcome untold suffering, the appearance of Joey’s wife-to-be will only make things worse. Yet, when matters of the heart are concerned, there is no middle way… Will they ever be able to reveal their true sentiments or will they keep on deceiving themselves and their aching hearts?
A heart warming story about a young lad, Joey, who ran away from an evil father who physically beat and abused him. He landed on the doorstep of the Phelps family who had a son and a daughter named Clemmie. Clemmie was shy but she became best friends with Joey and helped him with his nightmares of the beatings. They fall in love over the years but never tell each other. Joey sends an ad for a mail order bride which devastates Clemmie. The fiancé arrives and she is jealous and vindictive of Clemmie. She tries to harm Clemmie so Joey and the Phelps family send her packing. A must read to fill in all the gaps I left out here.
I am pretty sure this is my first time to read Carol Colyer, but I will be reading more. In this one, Clemmie is in love with Joey, a man who has been like a brother, living in the family home with Clemmie, her brother and their parents for the last twelve years. He, being male, is completely oblivious to Clemmie's feelings and orders a mail-order bride. The bride-to-be turns out to be persnickety, picky, and pugnacious (to keep the alliteration going, lol). She is not fitting in as Joey had hoped, but he feels honor bound to keep his end of the bargain. How will this dilemma be solved? Read the book!
Clemmie has always hoped that she would get married to Joey one day as they have grown up together but he has just told the family that he has put a ad in the newspaper for a mail order bride. Clemmie is beside herself what can she do to make Joey see that she is the one? She will try to win him over but it doesn't work and Elise arrives too soon. What can Clemmie do now? Joey has always known that Clemmie will be a part of his life he just didn't realise how she felt but it is too late now as he made a promise. What will happen with them now do they have any hope of a life together? A good love story
Great story of love and the confusion that can come with it. Joey joined the Phelp's family as a young boy. When starts to have feelings for his 'sister' Clemmie, he keeps them to himself. Clemmie feels the same way about him but doesn't want to say anything in case he doesn't feel the same way. When Joey's mail order bride arrives Clemmie is even more conflicted. What will it take for them to share their feelings with each other? Great Christian story. The characters will draw you in and hang on from beginning to end.
Clemmie and Joey both feel more than friendship for one another, but neither can summons the courage to tell the other how they feel. Complications multiply when Joey's mail order bride arrives. Clemmie seems to be the only one who sees into the real Elise. Once I started reading it was hard to lay this book down. I stayed up way to late one night to see how it all turned out. Ms. Colyer has created another wonderful book.
He did not want to disrespect those he loved. What a truly interesting story by Ms. Colyer the challenges she gave the main characters were so good. They felt real I could feel the doubt, anger, and sorrow that they were feeling deep down. Clemmie and Joey had a serious problem and not till the very end did everyone realize just how serious. This was such a splendid book to spend time with.
At 12 years old, Clemmie finds Joey asleep on their front porch one night. Joey is fleeing from an abusive father. Clemmie’s family takes Joey in but over the years Clemmie develops feelings for Joey who cares for her but doesn’t want to alienate himself from the family by reciprocating.
Another great book from Carol Colyer! Clemmie and Joey have such deep dilemmas concerning their relationship. Good reminder to speak up and don't keep feelings to yourself! Elise was a great vlllian!
Loved it. I always love her books. She is one of my favorites. Story lines are the kind that keep you guessing. As long as she writes them, I will keep reading them. Thanks Carol
Such a wonderful romance, especially of true love and devotion. If you want me to say more, I will not. All I’m gonna say is read it and you will know what I mean.
