An Earl distracted by his work…will he wake up in time to find the love of his life right in front of him?
Miss Ann Whyte has been sent to London under the care of one Earl of Ware, doing so to honor a promise to her brother. Attempting to make the best of the situation, she is deeply affronted when the Earl ignores her entirely and thrusts her into the care of his mother. Ann determines to throw herself into society and hopes to quickly find a suitor, thinking that no gentleman could be worse than her host!
Geoffrey, the Earl of Ware, cannot help but be attracted to Miss Whyte but resolves not to be distracted by her. Hearing that French spies may already be in London and having been forced to return home from the war himself, Geoffrey is determined to protect his country. However, when other gentlemen begin to pursue Miss Whyte, Geoffrey struggles with his feelings. When Miss Whyte finds herself unknowingly in danger, Geoffrey knows he must protect her.
Will he dare to confess his love? And can Ann ever come to care for him in return?
Rose has read her way through countless romances over the years, “borrowing” them from her older sisters, and hiding them from her mother.
She has a special love for Regency romances and when she began writing, the Regency period was a natural place to start. The ton, the wealthy families, the Season, the dilemmas, and yes, the marriages, have always fascinated her.
She loves a happy ever after! Now she is happy to bring this passion to her stories and share it with her readers.
On a personal note, Rose lives in North Carolina, is married, and has a terrier that barks too much. She enjoys taking him for walks to tire him out!
3.5 stars Although I enjoyed this story, I did prefer the previous one in the series. Ann is quite shy but she can speak up for herself on occasions. Geoffrey, Earl of Ware is attracted to Ann but because of other commitments, decides to be cold towards her. There was also the quest to find out who the spies were, amongst members of the aristocracy. I was glad that some straight and honest talking took place but would have liked an epilogue, as I found the ending a bit abrupt. I received a copy via Booksprout and have voluntarily reviewed it. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

This is a SWEET and CLEAN Regency Romance 💕.
I 💘love Author Pearson's 📚books because she strives to write as much in the vernacular of the time period as possible. The well educated had a roundabout way of speaking when they were in mixed company, that's for sure. Even though it's English, it sometimes needs translation!
The characters are well developed and the story is an interesting one of treasonous betrayal in time of war. Loved the book!
Miss Whyte’s brother is away at war! Uncertain of his return he sends his sister to London for the Season. She is to stay with his friend Lord Ware. When Lord Ware sees her that’s where his confusion starts as he feels an attraction he must not indulge. We have drama, romance , dangerous French spies and intrigue. I really enjoyed this book! Rose Pearson is a genius when it comes to regency romance. She makes u feel as though u r there! I highly recommend this book and this author!

Am a little lost concerning this story. I have read a lot of Rose's books and even thought all her stories are a clean read. All so far all have a great deal of detail, suspense, romance and feeling between the H and h. Most grab you from the start and you can't put them down. Miss Ann Whyte is the sister of Viscount Brigstock, Theodore. He has made arrangements for her to have a season in London. She is to stay at the Earl of Wares and his mother Lady Ware will be her chaperone and help led her thru her coming out. Theodore is worried what will happen to her if he is killed. The Earl Ware, Geoffrey met Theodore during the war. He would do anything to help him. Lord Ware was sent home after he passed away suddenly but still helps with the war effort. Doing what he can from London. From the start there is an ongoing rudeness and nastiness from Lord Ware toward Miss Whyte. Most of the book is about the mystery Lord Ware and others are trying to solve. Any interaction between them ends badly with Ware acting very ungentlemanly toward her. Ware has thoughts about her and she about him. Where was the Romance ?? There is the normal balls and events, which they must attended and she meets other men. Both who seem very interested in her. One saves her from two embarrassing events that were caused by Lord Ware. Then all of sudden there is interest between the H and h ? The ending was very rushed and really needed an Epilogue at best. After the first book in this series being great, this was a disappointment. The whole book was not like the author usually writes. I truly hate giving bad reviews but this book didn't do anything for me. It was hard to keep reading till the end. I really didn't like how Lord Ware talked to her or treated her even if he may have had his own reasons. Miss Whyte was very easily upset by a man she was didn't like. I received an ARC from the author and wish to thank her. This is my honest opinion and am voluntarily giving it. I hope book three is back to Roses normal writing.
A lady finds true love while helping her distracted host catch French sympathizers
This is the 2nd book in Rose Pearson’s “Soldiers and Sweethearts” series and it is an superb follow-up to the first book, “To Trust a Viscount”. The fascinating theme of British aristocracy betraying the Crown to help Napoleon continues with this tale. Ms. Pearson’s excellent writing talent and superior character development is exhibited here once again. The tension and suspense coupled with romance makes this book extremely fun and enjoyable to read. It will have the reader anticipating the next book in the series. Geoffrey, Earl of Ware is back in England from the battle in France and assisting the Crown by exposing French spies and sympathizers among the aristocracy. As a favor to his fellow officer, Theodore, Viscount Brigstock who is still on the Continent fighting, Geoffrey agrees to sponsor Brigstock’s sister, Ann’s, come-out and 1st Season with his mother, dowager Lady Ware, as Ann’s chaperone. Ann is to live at Geoffrey’s London Townhouse as she looks for a suitable match. Upon meeting Ann, Geoffrey realizes how beautiful and how he is taken with her, but he resolves to keep his distance as he works for the Crown. This distance as well as his work cause him to slight Ann and appear very rude on more than one occasion, and she forms somewhat of a dislike for him. As other suitors vie for her affection, Ann in herself, still sees more than a hint of romantic attraction for Geoffrey. He can’t ignore his affinity for Ann either, so he finely explains his actions and as she now understands, she agrees to assist Geoffrey in trapping the French sympathizers. All goes well and it ends with an HEA. You should not miss this book along with the 1st in the series. Having received a free copy of this book via Booksprout, I voluntarily leave this review.
Like the first book of this series by a favorite author, this one disappointed me on several levels. I did NOT like the hero at all. Though he’s attracted to her from first sight, he’s rude and cold throughout most of the book. I like my romantic heroes to treat their ladies a little better than that! While he’s treating her terribly, it seems all he can think about is the attraction but that he shouldn’t pursue it because of his commitment to the war effort, tracking down French sympathizers/spies amongst the nobility. He often thinks that she would be too much of a distraction if pursued. I definitely thought the war aspect was overplayed and might confuse those who haven’t read the first book of the series. It was even confusing to someone who HAS read the previous book. Because of his treatment of her, the heroine--understandably--doesn’t like him for most of the book. What I didn’t understand about her, though, was her tendency to turn into a “watering pot” at any time… and all the time. The author’s earliest depiction of her didn’t show her like that or give enough reason for her to be so. I also thought the “heart” aspect was overplayed as well, both characters often referring to that organ and the other’s effect on it. This book is rather high on the Indeed-o-meter, something I now rate for all Regency romances. This book has 1.5 incidences of the word “indeed” per 1000 words; sometimes several were in one paragraph. I do this rating because I think the word is way overused in Regency romances; it is like fingers scratching down a chalkboard for me every time I see it in print. All in all, a disappointing read.
I received a free copy of this book, but that did not affect my review.
This is book 2 in her new series Soldier's and Sweethearts. Its also evident that one would need to read the series in order to place the characters who form the backbone of the series.
Book 1 introduced our hero Geoffrey, the Earl of Ware, the Marquis of Stratham and the Duke of Abernethy. This is the Earl's HEA.
Ann Whythe's brother is still serving the army and has asked our hero to host and guide her for the season while the Earl's mother will act chaperone to Ann. Ann comes across as demure but she definitely isn't a doormat allowing the earl to run roughshod over her. She stands up for herself on multiple times even though she's unsure of the Earl's attitude towards her. At the end she comes through for the hero and his noble cause.
The Earl on the other hand comes out as impetuous and a little stodgy but extremely involved in finding the French spies.
Its a simple story one even pre teens can easily read and comprehend. And herein is my greatest grouse against the author. All her books and I've read quite a few of them are very superficial. As in this case, there are French spies infiltrating the ton, but she fails to explain their exact role in this and how are they going about doing so. In this case too, the ridiculous end is testament to it.
I really wish Ms. Pearson would give her books more depth especially since the next books will.involve the Duke and The Marquis both very active in their pursuit of spies. She cannot get away with something so trivial.and immature . A few editing errors need to be checked too.
Overall, its a quick read though I do recommend to read them in order.

Ann recieves a letter from her brother who is serving in the war, ordering her to go to London under the care of his friend Lord Ware. Geoffrey had met Lord ofBrigstock when they served together and he had saved him. Ware decides to keep his distance and have his mother chaperone her. His mother is overjoyed to do so! Ware is instantly attracted to her but is determined to remain distant. Ann is attracted to him but feels Isolated and lonely missing her home and brother. At her first ball she attracts the attention of another - especially when Wade misses their first dance of the season but Ann becomes convinced that he cares nothing for her and wants her to have a quick match, she is determined to shut off her feelings for him. Just how are two determined people going to realise they are meant for each other?
I thoroughly enjoyed reading this engaging entertaining and compelling story of a young lady who is so determined not to fall in love! Geoffrey begins to experience feelings for Ann from instant attraction, admiration, jealousy, growing awareness, attraction - and jealousy. The relationship between them develops slowly given the many obstacles that arise. Told from dual POVs reveals intimately their thoughts feelings and emotions as they explore their relationship and feelings for each other. There's an epilogue and a HEA
I always adore reading one of Ms. Pearson's books because she does a wonderful job in describing the time period and really bringing it to life for the reader. This is the second book in the Soldiers and Sweethearts series. The story brings you suspense and intrigue with plenty of romance and drama as well that will keep you turning the pages. While reading, I found myself always anxious to see what would happen next. The storyline was well written and had a nice smooth flow and the characters were well-developed and had interesting qualities and characteristics. Geoffrey is back in England assisting the Crown in trying to expose French spies and sympathizers. He has promised his friend Theodore to sponsor his sister Ann while he is away at war. Ann comes to live with Geoffrey and his mother so his mother can act as her chaperone. An attraction develops between the two, but Ann being his friend's sister and because of his duty to the Crown, he tries to squelch any feelings that arise, appearing to Ann as being rude. They finally come to an understanding and things begin to change from there. This was an interesting and entertaining addition to the series and I enjoyed it very much. I'm looking forward to reading the next installment!

I did struggle to like Geoffrey & I would have made him grovel for his slights. I did like Ann who went from a watering pot to a determined young lady. There were some twists & turns as well as some surprises. I look forward to more in the series as Stratham’s work isn’t finished My honest review is for a special copy I voluntarily read
WHISPERS of the heart. Book 2. SOLDIERS AND SWEETHEART series By, Rose Pearson.
It should be Ann's first season in London. However there did not seem much chance of it happening until, the Duke with an obligation to her brother agreed to host Ann. Ann was swept up in balls, new clothes, entertainment, and young men that were interested in furthering their long term acquaintance. When the Duke having missed dances, and avoided spending time with Ann and getting to know her. Suddenly became aware of his feelings.
"Thankfully he managed to get himself together before the end of the book. "
This is a Rose Pearson book, as always this book is well written, romantic, historical and I loved the book.

He is concerned for her future with the possibility he could be killed in action. The Earl served in the war but came home when his father passed away. He is currently helping the cause from London. He wasn’t the friendliest to Ann when she arrived. He was attracted to her but didn’t want the distraction from his duties. As there are traitors within their mist, he is activity trying to serf out their names or where they are meeting. When he finds out that those he believed were true to the crown and king were not who they seemed to be and that Ann could be in danger, he realizes he can’t deny telling her why he has acted like he has. Delightful! Intrigue, deception, jealousy, secrets and so much more! Ann’s brother, who is still fighting in France, has made arrangements for her to have a Season in London. Geoffrey, Lord Ware, and his mother have agreed to house and chaperone her. Of course she is a big hit and has two men vying to court her…..but her heart lies elsewhere. Geoffrey is working for the Crown in pursuit of traitors, one of whom is interested in Ann. Poor Geoffrey just can’t seem to get out of his own way, and it is fun to see what his next misstep would be. Ann’s distress and confusion is blatantly obvious as Lord Ware keeps sending her mixed messages. Lady Ware, on the other hand is a staunch supporter of Ann, and spends a good deal of time furious at her own offspring. This story moves at a good clip, has interesting characters, many misdirections, is entertaining, and most enjoyable!

You read any Rose Pearson book and you are sure to get a heart- warning, sweet romance which fills your soul. Whispers of the Heart is also of the same type. In this book, we get two people who are very much drawn to each other but are not sure about how to handle it. Lady Ann and Lord Worth are both lovable characters; so much so that you can't help but hope for them to get together soon. I absolutely loved their interactions and how they dealt with each other. I particularly loved how sensible and mature the heroine was. It was a change to read characters like them.
Rose Pearson has delivered as always. In fact, I am beginning to get intrigued by the story which is running in the backdrop of the series and can't wait to find out more about the culprits and their plots. It's a delightful 5 stars from me and impatience to get my hands on the other books in the series.

Ann Whyte has a brother who is away at war. He arranges for Ann to go to London for the season and stay at the Earl of Ware’s estate with his mother as chaperone. Lord Ware is only to happy to agree to Ann’s brother’s request as they served together at war. Lady Ware is delighted to have a lady to chaperone for the season.
Lord Ware is doing important work trying to help find out traitors who are siding with France instead of England. He does not want any distractions so tries to distance himself from Ann. She then decides he is rude.
There are a few twists as the book progresses.
I admit I found parts of the book a bit slow and enjoyed the first one better but this was still a good read. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Miss Ann Whyte has been sent to London due to a promise to her brother when he saved Geoffrey, the Earl of Ware, during the war. Geoffrey is so wrapped up in his work that he fears she will distract him. Therefore, his behavior is perceived as cold when he pushes her away and ignores her, letting his mother handle the details of her introduction to society.
Actually Geoffrey is definitely attracted to Miss Whyte. But with rumors of French spies in London, he is focused on protecting his country. It is only when someone else expresses interest in her that he is aware he could lose his opportunity. Is he ready to pursue her? Will he keep her safe when she unwittingly is in harm’s way? Will he finally tell her how he feels about her, and ask for her forgiveness for his previous behavior toward her? Or did he wait too long to have that matter now?
I get the feeling that this particular series of stories really needs to be read in order, as each builds in the previous one. The challenge presented originally is for returning noblemen who have fought and been injured in the war with Napoleon join forces to find traitors within the Ton who wish to aid the French. This second book basically picks up where the first left off. This set of characters contains many from the first book with additional ones to help expand the story. I am totally caught up in the mystery of finding those who would be traitors and enjoy seeing how these injured and affected young men unintentionally get drawn into a semblance of normalcy through the presence of a strong and caring young woman. I look forward to reading the next of the series.
I couldn’t get into this story at all. It started off on the wrong foot with Geoffrey, the earl of ware being a complete jerk to Ms. Whyte based on his belief that she would be a waste of his time, an unwanted distraction to his time to help with the ongoing investigation that is the basis of this series. There was no effort put forth to build a believable courtship between the mains, therefore the end declarations of love and adoration were unbelievable to say the least. In fact, Anne Whyte came across as a rather large doormat. The antagonists were obvious, they were not mastermind criminals in any way. I assume Lord Stratham is the H for book three since he played a significant role in this book.
Geoffrey promised his friend that he would give his sister a season in London. Ann received a letter from her brother stating she was to have a season in London. Ann could not figure out how her brother had arranged this as he was in the war with France. When she arrived at Geoffry`s house his mother was excitedly awaiting her arrival. While Geoffrey was involved with the war effort trying to find out who were French sympathizers he wanted to stay as far away as he could from Ann who thought he was working with the French. He was surprised to find out who several of the men working with the French were.

From the beginning Geoffrey was rude to the young lady his mother was sponsoring for the season, the sister of a man who saved his life in the war. He's attracted to Ann but acts coldly, pushing her away, and forgetting about the dances he promised with her, afraid that his feelings for her will distract him from his efforts with the war. At one point in the book she said didn't hold a grudge against him for his actions, but that's not true because she was very angry and sad over it. Part of his problem is he kept things from Ann and then acted strange. If he had only taken her in his confidence sooner they would have had less issues, but that did add to the drama in the story.
Whispers of the heart is a regency romance novel by Rose Pearson. In her fashion the book pulls you into the storyline and has you reading until the end. I love this book. It is plain to see they are attracted to each other. Ann does not understand why the Earl is so rude to her. He is so attracted to her he does not know what to do with himself. He is constantly saying the wrong things, and missing dance opportunities. He leaves her in the care of his mother and wants to screen he callers....Will they be able to help each other?

Miss Ann Whyte received a letter from her brother Theodore, Viscount Brigstock, stating that he had arranged for her to have a London season sponsored by Lady Ware the mother of Geoffrey, the Earl of Ware, a good friend of his. Lord Ware sent a carriage and servants to bring her to London. He then forgot that he was supposed to dance with her and her first ball he apologized and forgot to dance with her at her second ball, he had distinct problems with Miss Whyte. This is a well-written book by Ms. Pearson in her usual style and totally enjoyable. I highly recommend that you read it and find out how Geoffrey cleans his blotter book...
This heartwarming Regency romance immediately captivated my attention and kept me entertained and intrigued until I read the last word. I loved the undeniable attraction between MIss Ann Whyte and Geoffrey, the Earl of Ware whose caring for her welfare during the London Season while her brother is fighting for the King. Ms. Pearson never disappoints whatsoever and I look forward to book three in her Soldiers and Sweethearts series. If you enjoy clean and wholesome Regency romance, don't miss "Whispers of the Heart". A friend’s betrayal. Ann Whyte is a distraction that Geoffrey, the Earl of Ware would prefer was not there. His work is important and he has no time for romance or love. Oh but fate does have other ideas. I love when I get the opportunity to read one of Rose's books. She has a way of making the hero and heroine so likable with such a real feel to them. This book was very entertaining to read. You will the love the twists in the tale! I highly recommend the book. Ann receives a letter from her brother telling her that she is going to the Earl of Ware’s home for the season. His mother will be her chaperone. Geoffrey is busy working for the Crown and the few promises he made to Ann were quickly forgotten. However, he is not pleased to see other gentleman wanting to court her. I loved how this all turned out! Excellent story! I received an advance copy of this book from the author, however, I voluntarily wrote an honest review. All opinions are strictly my own.
Delightful storyline with a few twists to keep your interest. Geoffrey’s character doesn’t react well to Ann’s at the start, but close encounters and fate will push this intriguing couple towards their undeniable attraction and happy ever after. A few fun times will be had by Ann and Geoffrey. I enjoyed this book. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving an honest review.
Her brother wishes her to marry as he is battling in France. She is sent to stay at Lord Wards estate. She does not wish to marry now. It is a conundrum. Lord Wards mother is her chaperone and surrogate mother during this season. Nothing prepares either of them for the drama which unfolds when two men begin to vie for the opportunity to court her. She desires neither of them, but another. Its a really great story and I loved that it is sweet and innocently written.
The main characters were very likeable in this light romance. I enjoyed the continuation in the search for spies that began in book one. It lagged a bit in the middle of the book and was a bit repetitive. I wish the treason plot had been fleshed out more. Not quite as good as book one but I still enjoyed it.

I truly enjoyed Geoffrey and Ann's story. It was sweet, clean, and had just the right amount of action. They had their differences at first thanks to Geoffrey, Lord Ware, being determined not to gain a connection with Ann, Miss Whyte. I like how the story connects with the first book in the series. And im guessing there will be another book in this series. I look forward to reading it.
