Rate this book
France's most alluring region promises fragrant fields of lavender, incredible ancient relics and celebrated art collections. Sandy Riviera beaches, glitzy resorts and hilltop villages may come to mind when you think of Provence and the Côte d'Azur, but this region is also a haven for lovers of the great outdoors. Its array of stunning natural landscapes includes the alpine wilderness of Parc National du Mercantour, the rugged coastal cliffs of the Calanques and the dramatic Gorges du Verdon - Europe's deepest canyon.

Whether you want to watch flocks of flamingos strutting across the wild wetlands of the Camargue, visit lush vineyards in the Rhône valley or simply soak up the sun in St-Tropez, your DK Eyewitness travel guide makes sure you experience all that the Provence and Côte d'Azur have to offer. I took this out of the library to prepare for going back to this part of France--I know what I did not feel that I had enough time for last time around, but wanted to look for some things that we might have skipped over because they were less interesting for the kids. I think these Eyewitness books are perfect for getting a sense of what the place looks like, and seeing where you might like to go--they offer very little in terms of practical on the ground advice--like where to stay and where to eat.

Useful guide in planning my time in the Luberon - left it at my host's for other English reading visitors.

The perfect guide to read/browse/skim before you go: photographs, maps, illustrations, all you need to dream.
How useful once you get there, I can't tell yet: I'll revisit my rating.
