Now that all of our secrets are out in the open, we must live with the choices we made and the truth of who we really are.

Jacqueline has found out the truth about her brother, the secret that I vowed to never reveal. She wants to see him again and doesn’t care that it will endanger not only her life but all of ours.
The thing that I have feared has happened. The worst of the worst men are after us and they only have one goal: to take our lives.

It’s time to RUN.
Darkness descends. Yet hope remains.
The danger that I tried to keep at bay this whole time has come for us with a vengeance.

We left book four in the parking garage of the hospital, Lincoln and Marguarite were waiting the impending birth of their baby, Jacqueline and Marguarite were threatened by assassins who were were trying to kill off the entire family since they were in one place, but the girls were able to pay them off a million dollars for them to go away. What happens next though to end the book is crazy. There’s a shooting in the parking garage and it’s Dante’s father who’s in dire straights.

Book five takes us a bit into the future, everyone has scattered around so that there’s no way to get the entire family together anymore. Lincoln and Marguarite are in North Carolina trying to make their life work there. Dante is still always on the road for work – he’s gone around the world and finds his way to various family members to check on them from time to time. Jacqueline, her mother and Michael (who’s now really alive) are in Boston – although Jacqueline lives on her own there – away from her mom and brother. Dante learns that his mother is in Mexico, with his father and that is unsettling in itself.

Jacquline continues to be our focus, watching how she’s reinventing herself as a writer – going back to school and trying to make her life into something worthwhile. She of course misses Dante but doesn’t know if their future is ever meant to be together. When she learns that Michael is in touch with him and that they have plans to meet, that’s something that she’s got to hold on to and we watch how that has the potential to implode – with Jacquline going against what’s smart and tagging along on that trip.

The reason for the trip -a need to take out all the people who have a hit on the family so that they can live their lives more freely. It’s something that they all want since they miss aspects of what they had, friends, comfort, jobs etc. But the outcome here is nothing at all what we expect and yet we should have expected it all along.

There’s another story line happening at the same time – Allison and her fiance are still in their bubble until a plane crash changes the trajectory of things. There’s a small plane crash that happens off of Cape Cod and there are 2 people on that plane that make us take pause. One is her Fiance’s best friend – a man that he’s known for ever, had as a manager, and now who’s passed. The impact that the death has on their relationship is one that has miserable intentions. while initially they cling to each other for support, they find that they are slowly losing the spark and the need to have something with each other. Instead, Richard finds solace with his deceased friends wife, a woman that he had feelings for all those years ago, and it results in an affair. When the affair is uncovered, there are threats made to Jacqueline for her own safety and that leaves an uncertain future all around.

Then there’s the dark underbelly of this story. We know that the family wants to kill all those that have a hit on them, but it’s easier said than done. Dante has a plan that no one wants to listen to, and then there’s a plan that they can’t walk away from once they realize that their safety bubble spread out around the world isn’t so safe. What happens when they corner the assassins, well that’s an entirely different twist of fate, and not everyone that we’ve grown close to in this series makes it out alive.

This is a dark and steamy story with strong , believable characters. The author once again weaves a twisted story filled with drama, mystery and suspense and had me glued to the pages with all the intrigue as well as the steam. It's well written with descriptive scenes and flows fluidly. I'm loving this series!

Great way to wrap up a series that kept me hooked beginning to end. Dante and Jacqueline have been a rollercoaster since book one and this book didn’t change that but happy they got the ending they deserved

Dark Inheritance: Dark Intentions #5 by Charlotte Byrd

So many twists and turns in Dark Inheritance as this dark romance is full of intrigue, danger, passion and betrayal. Dante and Jacqueline are still in danger living undercover looking over their shoulder in fear of being caught, but each day they are apart they long to be together . Jacqueline is trying to forgive her brother Michael for faking his death but is having a hard time with his betrayal. She decides to give him a chance but will not trust him. Dante is traveling from place to place trying to make as much money as he can hoping that one day he can find Jacqueline and they will be able to be with each other as he is tormented by his decision when he sent her away. He visits his brother when he can but with his latest visit he can tell that Lincoln and his sister- in- law are not happy raising their daughter in hiding as they had to leave everything behind in order to be safe .

When Dante visits his mother in Mexico he gets a shock when he learns his father is with her. Now his father tells him that in order for all of them to have a life again, they need to take out the 20 men who are after them as he was the one that got all of them in trouble. Can they come up with a plan and can Dante convince Michael and Lincoln that this is the only way all of them will be free? When Michael leaves to go to Dante, Jacqueline follows him and he has no choice but to tell her the truth, she now forces Michael to take her with him. Now all of the players are in place as the time has come to end this threat. When Jacqueline arrives at Dante's hotel door, one look , one touch is all it will take for these two as they make up for the time they were apart with all of the passion and desire they have for one another. When he tells her about their plan she is anxious and worried for his safety. Realizing that he was wrong for sending her away he decides to live for the day as they decided to get married and stop living in fear as they promise each other they will never be apart again. When he learns that Michael, Lincoln and his father decide the risk is too much they decide to continue to live under the radar in hopes these men will give up trying to kill them. Finally Dante and Jacqueline are having the happiness they deserve, raising their daughter and trying to live a normal life, but soon a threat is made against Dante's daughter and he calls everyone that that they need to do something soon as they all have been found. When Dante's father tells him he knows when the next meeting where all the men will be they set out to end this threat.

You will be on edge with a climatic, suspenseful ending that you won't see coming as they attack the warehouse. When Dante's father turns on him, he learns his father betrayed him and planned all of this. Now he threatens Dante in order for his family and the others to be safe, he has to kill some prominent men to pay off his debt . Dante will soon turn the tables on his father with the help from his brother and Michael they attack all of the men as Dante ends his father. Once the investigation is complete and they are exonerated for the killings, with the help from the press they make sure all of the focus was put on his father. Now all of them look towards the future with a life full of happiness and love. Thank you Charlotte Byrd for taking us on another wonderful journey with you!

3.5 stars— DARK INHERITANCE is the fifth and final instalment in Charlotte Byrd’s contemporary, adult DARK INTENTIONS romantic, suspense serial focusing on businessman/assassin Dante Langston, and journalist/receptionist Jacqueline Archer. DARK INHERITANCE should not be read as a stand alone as it picks up after the events and cliff hanger of book four DARK TEMPTATIONS

NOTE: If you have not read the previous instalments, there may be spoilers in my review.

SOME BACKGROUND: Jacqueline Archer’s mother needed a life saving procedure, and our heroine needed a quick influx of cash. On the recommendation of her best friend Allison, Jacqueline applies for an exclusive membership to the $ex club Redemption, where she will meet businessman Dante Langston. This is their story.

Told from dual first person perspectives (Dante and Jacqueline) and several third person perspectives DARK INHERITANCE picks up immediately after the events and cliff hanger of book four DARK TEMPTATIONS.Dante Langston’s father has resurfaced following a life of crime, and with it everyone he loves is now in danger. Not wanting to place Jacqueline in the direct line of fire, Dante and Jacqueline go their separates ways, never forgetting about the love they left behind but Dante’s father has plans to retaliate against the people he believes have done him wrong, and in this Jacqueline will find herself reunited with the man that calls to her heart. Years will pass, Dante and Jacqueline will move on with their lives together , start a family, and look forward to their own happily ever after but the past, once again, resurfaces, and with it betrayal from a familiar but not surprising source.

Meanwhile, Jacqueline’s brother Michael has ‘returned from the dead’, and continues to ask forgiveness from the sister whose heart he broke months before but Dante is in desperate need of help, and a debt owed must be paid by Jacqueline’s brother.

DARK INHERITANCE is an intriguing story that closes several open ended plot points involving a number of secondary and supporting characters. We learn about the depth of betrayal, and the truth behind Dante’s father’s ongoing troubles and ‘desire’ to run, as well as Dante’s brother’s Lincoln marital woes, and growing family. Jacqueline and Dante spend a large portion of the story line apart, each moving forward without one another but once reunited, the story line skips several years wherein our couple look to the future, all the while, continuing to look behind. The slow building premise is captivating but felt rushed to the finish; the characters are impassioned; the romance is intense-the $ex scenes are limited .

Another winner by this prolific writer! Charlotte Byrd gives the reader all of the feels of a great romantic suspense—secrets, mystery, and drama—she just doesn’t disappoint! This book is the twist worthy conclusion to the Dark Intentions series that we were waiting for with baited breath from the moment we experienced that cliffhanger from the previous book. This story is an emotional rollercoaster as we ride every high and hit the withdrawal symptoms that the characters endures. I was totally captivated. This dark romance oozes with lust, desire, and danger and drags you into its darkness, intrigue, and suspense that is all rolled up into one deliciously dark and twisted package. When you find out that the truth isn’t always what it seems, what do you do about it? Well, find out what happens when all the secrets unfold, the masks that they hold in place slip off and everything is revealed. The road to Dante and Jacqueline’s happiness seems wrought with threats, heartache, secrets, lies, debt, crime, danger, and family drama. The angst is intense. The chemistry and desire between Dante and Jacqueline is undeniable. With an impending threat to their lives, will Dante and Jacqueline have to stay on the run and live under the radar, or will it the threat be aborted by whatever means possible? Charlotte Byrd has constructed a masterpiece that will lure you into the wee hours and beyond that you will not be able to put this book down. This is book five and the final book in The Dark Intentions Series and it continues Jacqueline and Dante's story and omg it is definitely a must read. Dante misses Jacqueline so much but he knows that he will have to stay away from her to protect and keep her alive and Dante hopes that one day they can eventually sort everything out so that he can find her again so that they can be together again and have a future but nothing is certain at the moment. Jacqueline misses Dante so much and every day with our him just gets harder and harder and she wants to be with him so badly but now she wonders if they will ever see each other again as being apart is what keeps them all alive but she often wonders if Dante is safe and missing her as well. Dante and Lincoln's father is the one that has put them in this mess but will they ever be able to sort everything out and go back to there normal lives ever again only time will tell what the outcome will be. There are twists and turns along with betrayal, suspense, danger, action, hope, love and some difficult situations that you definitely didn't see coming. I couldn't put this book down as it was a real page turner that kept you on your toes and on the edge of your seat and it was so addictive. Charlotte Byrd is an amazing author and writer and I definitely recommend you read this series and you will not be disappointed.

Just WOW, what an end to this series, I didn't see the ending coming at all, total mystery and suspense throughout the whole series keeping you turning pages and wanting more.

This is the final chapter in the Dark Intentions series, it continues Jacqueline and Dante's story and OMG it is definitely a must-read it doesn't disappoint one little bit. It starts off with them both leading new lives, states apart, not knowing where each other was, they both miss each other so much and want it to be all behind them so they can be together, and finally, they are, but there are still twists and turns, drama, danger, carelessness, hope and love.

There is so much I want to say about this book, but won't spoil it for others, just take it from me the whole series is a must-read, with every emotion you can think of and a perfect ending. I have really enjoyed reading Jacqueline and Dante's story I didn't want it to end.

well done on another fantastic series!

How can something that started off so magnificently go so far downhill. Charlotte Byrd has another fantastic series on her hands. What a great series and a great ending. It’s been a wonderful romance for Dante and Jacqueline, but over the several books, the drama gets the best of them and tears them apart. In this book, everything seems to be perfectly fine until boy it is certainly not. This book is filled with love, children, sacrifices and constantly looking over your shoulder. And when it comes down to the very end, you will be gasping with remorse for what happens. An excellent ending to this series. Like the Beatles said, all you need is love. What a shocker of an ending.

Ominous Thrilling Romance...Dont look away!

The 5th episode in Jacqueline and Dante's romantic adventure. This one offered so many fatal twists and delicious curves! The only thing I've missed is igniting their fire that initially sparked in the 1st novel. There have been so many different hurdles the couple has had to conquer, the reader is easily as exasperated as the characters. But the links to family while frustrating, weave a web of both intrigue and fascination. This series as a whole was quite the feast! Page turner and candle at both ends describe both the characters and the reader here.
You can't miss with this one!

Danger, drama, darkness and desperate desires make the final piece of Dante and Jacqueline's story an irresistible feast for the reader. I urge you to try to have the time to devote to this book because once you are caught up in it, you will resent every single interruption that tries to steal your attention. The brilliantly crafted storyline is filled with raw emotions, intense drama, stunning twists, heat, action, taut suspense and edge-of-your-seat danger. This book was the perfect way to close out this series and I absolutely loved it. This is my volitional, candid review.

I received this novel from ARC for an honest review,
When your past catches up to you, things get messy. You meet the man who haunts you, he meets the woman he burns for. You want a good mystery, with danger, with evil, with family who throw their own blood to the wolves. Then this book has every tantalizing emotion all wrapped up for you to get lost in. So well written you can feel the heat between the well-developed characters, and the fear, the hate, the love, every emotion hits you. A must read.

This is the last book in the Dark Intention series, and it does not disappoint. Dante & Jacqueline have been through so much, now the past catches up to them and things get really messy. This book has good intrigue, mystery and lots of evil people doing really dangerous things. Very well written and it ties up all the loose ends. Lots of suspense to get to the end. Will he be able to keep his family safe? How far is Dante willing to go? This one is a page turner. Enjoy!!

Dante and Jacqueline were lovers until life became messy and Dante sent everyone into hiding with new identities. Jacqueline is obsessed with her love for him and he haunts her waking and sleeping moments. Dante is equally haunted but can they give in to their desires and love and be together? With every turn of the page the suspense builds, names from the past come to life and then they die, or do they? Such a great writer and so much fun to read. Thank you for the ARC and looking forward to more great writing

Dante and Jacqueline’s conclusion is best of the best. All kinds of emotions and twists and turns are happening here. I’m giving no spoilers either. Once I started reading this book, there was nothing else I did until it was finished. I couldn’t wait to find out how their journey ended, and I have to say that it was superb. I love these characters so much. Please read the whole series. It is amazing!

Not good

If I wouldn't have bought the whole series at one time I would have never finished the books it started out great. But then they added characters and took characters away and then never mentioned them
again. And then they just did this little narrative about things that happened about people that they never even wrote about again. Very very poorly written and I do apologize for being so critical but it was a waste of my money

Dante and Jacqueline’s story had a lot of twists and turns and it will keep you on the edge of your seat. I did not see the end coming the way it did. I enjoyed their story, but to be honest, I did struggle to get through it a little bit and I hate saying that. I really love reading this author's stories and will continue to do so.

OMG!!!!!!!!!!

What an unexpected twist that left me shocked to the core, how selfish can a person be to put those closest to you in dangerous and compromising situations.

That is not the end I envisaged but it was much better than I hoped for.

Thanks Charlotte for another thrilling read, can’t wait for what next you have in store for us.

Great Series

I loved everything about this series. The plot thickened with every book. The suspense was perfectly increased, giving us a little insight but not enough to give you answers to your questions lingering in the back of our minds. I knew the Dad was up to something, but I'm not sure what it was. Great story.
