One cruel Queen,

Four Fae Princes

A human to save, or doom them all.

Nineteen-year-old Samantha just wants to survive long enough to escape to a life of freedom away from the dangerous sickness that plagues the mortal lands and the Church of Flame.

But be careful what you wish for.

Tragedy strikes and the sickness takes her father. With his passing, the church comes to claim her. She turns to the one person she has left, her teacher and godmother. Only to find a bracelet left by her birth mother slapped onto her wrist.

And she falls right onto a fruit cart belonging to an ogre and finds herself in a land she once thought to be nothing more than a myth.

Faerie.

Tasked with finding a male named Niall and told to stay far away from the wicked Queen, instead, she ends up in her clutches, facing down a queen hellbent on breaking the veil to her realm and enslaving mortals.

Alliances are made, and destiny is set in motion.

The fate of two realms is in the hands of Sam, but all she wants to do is go home. Except, the wicked Queen has other plans. She ties Sam’s life to the angry, devastatingly handsome Prince, Killian. A bond that cannot be broken.

As lies and secrets are unraveled, Sam has to make a decision: will she stay and fight, or will she go home?

This book is perfect for fans of Sarah J. Maas, J. L. Armentrout and Holly Black.

The story is well told and the pacing is excellent. There is enough mystery and interaction to keep you reading without being impatient for the twists or reveal. I hope the story will continue in a book 2.

I received this book for free and was happy to leave this reveiw.

This tale begins with one heck of a bang, immediately grabbing the reader's attention as conflict practically explodes from the pages. Tyranny and betrayal is where we start, and then we're introduced to a world of hardships as a sickness plagues the lands. This book played with my emotions, bringing me to tears a few times and making me laugh aloud at times as well. I raced to the finish, and I now eagerly wait for book two.

I received this in exchange for an honest review via Voracious Readers. 3.5 stars.
I enjoyed this book. I was pulled in immediately by the opening chapter. Happiness turned to fear, panic and desperation, caused by betrayal. It was brilliant. A little hint into the world I would be entering into.
The next few chapters introduced our main character 'Sam'. Just a girl from a small village trying to go to school in a world where the church wanted women subjugated and downtrodden. Sam is the adopted child of an older couple who have a small farm, her mother had already passed from 'the sickness' and her father becomes ill with it shortly after the book begins. This is where the story really begins. Lady Callaghan saves Sam and transports her to the land of the Fae where she meets Al, an ogre stud...
The world building is very well done. I felt as though I was walking those dirt covered roads alongside Sam and understood the structure of authority within her mortal world. When we move into the Faerie land, things are different. The world is described as being comprised of two seasons, spring and summer. On the outside, everything seems idyllic, peaceful and beautiful. In actuality, it is anything but!
Sam is almost immediately captured and taken to Queen Deidre.
The Evil Queen Deidre. She is everything the scenery is not, vicious, psychotic and violent. The development of this character, the description and just everything about her is perfectly horrific. The author has done a brilliant job creating this villain and maintains it the whole way through the book.
Flora, the little pixie who Sam befriends is a cute addition and Sam's doorway to understanding the world she has been dumped into. She is Sam's best friend in this new world.
The Princes, Killian, Balor and Mikel. Killen is described as menacing, broody, hateful and angry. He has a fire ability/affinity. Balor is another prince who has been beaten down by the Queen. He has a water ability/affinity. Mikel is the last prince, he has wings/air affinity. All three of these princes have gone up against Queen Deirdre and lost. They all hate her and with good reason. But Killian is our MMC here, but I won't say any more and give anything away.
In some parts of the book, the writing didn't flow well and Sam's questioning sometimes felt forced rather than the natural progression of the conversation and it didn't always match her inner monologue. I felt that the middle of the book stagnated where the author spent more time building the relationship of Sam and the princes at the expense of the plot. I felt that there could've been more and I struggled a little bit to get through it. I also felt that as unhinged as Queen Deirdre is, she could be more bloodthirsty and vicious. It is hinted in the book that she's done all the terrible things so it doesn't have to be put on the page but I was kind of left a little wanting on a few things. The passion between Killian and Sam, while it was a slow burn and a believable one. I wanted something more. And the one thing that annoyed me beyond reason was this constant rubbish about, 'oh, it's their story to tell, but I'll tell you the bare bones of the story', and how the three princes talked about things that the reader can guess into but isn't explained then or in the next few chapters. All of that made me eye-roll HARD.
But once I got passed the 60% mark, things began happening again. The plot moved forward and then all of a sudden it was a full speed run for the finish line. There was so much to unpack in the last 40% of the story and when I looked to see that I only had 92% left, I panicked. There was no way that we were going to leave off here?
But we did leave off there and I have to say it was a very good cliffhanger! If I had the second book in my possession right now, I would dive right in, no questions asked. The writing wasn't perfect, some of the speech was repetitive and the language used wasn't always suited to the 'era' but the story is good and I WANT SAM TO HAVE HER REVENGE!!!

Great read! Enemies to lovers, forced proximity, people you love to love and people you love to hate. Good world building, a nice pace with enough sizzle and intrigue to keep you flipping pages. I was super keen on the main characters intense naivety at times but it will hopefully be gone by mid next book!

Loved the premise and excited to see where the next book takes us. I did have a slight dislike of the MC, though she does redeem herself at times.

I really liked this book. Human, or who thought she was human, ends up in a fantastical world and she's not human, she's faerie. I love the different fantasy creatures she's exposed to. There's humor and darkness and emotion. I liked the way it developed and grew.

I am absolutely in LOVE with Kingdom of Blood and Spirit. I was a beta reader for Riley Hunt. This ticks all my boxes. I love a good prologue that still leaves an air of mystery to the story. I love an MC who already has some sass to begin with, and those fae princes have me swooning. I can't divulge more, but check out the blurb and see what you decide.

DNF at 6%

Way too much exposition, repetitive, dialogue is dull as dishwater. I started skimming at 4%, wanted to get to at least 10-20% before reviewing, but oh my GOD we get it, the church is misogynistic and evil, they’re taking over the town, please move on.
