I wasn't sure, when I heard RJ was heading back to Ellery Mountain, whether it would still be as good as the seven previous novella given that all the characters had been nicely getting on with their lives in Mickey's book.

But, I should have had faith as we get two new characters with links to the area who are another perfect fit into this small town with its close knit community and strong friendships.

I laughed out loud at the reference to long running British TV hospital drama Casualty, and I chuckled with delight at Nick's sharp tongue and sarcastic response to Ben at their first meeting.

Things aren't maybe quite as developed as they have been in other books in the series, but it isn't to any detriment. Both Nick and Ben are fleshed out with unique voices and characteristics and I believed the Army medic could find peace with a British actor escaping from his wealthy family.

Gosh, what a lovely read this was.

Their first introduction to each other isn't a good one, they irritate each other to hell.

Ben, is an army medic, also works in a new burn unit in Ellery, which is his life goal.

Nick's life is a mess, he is hiding and living temporarily next door to Ben making things harder.

I snorted my drink more than once through my nose because, jeez, it was really funny at times.

Ben is demanding and calculating. When he and Nick are both in town at the same time, they just can’t!
Nick was more like no way they can hook up... well okay maybe only one time… that's all.. well okay maybe twice.

The further the story went, the more emotions bubbled up. Bit by bit their backgrounds are revealed. We get to know them better. They have and had a totally different life and somehow they feel each other and fit wonderfully. The feelings are all over the place.

I loved the way their story was written, how they get to a deeper connection, it felt warm and real.

Their lives and purpose so well put together. There was a lot of commotion around Nick's life and where he came from. With some ultimate firmness, everything seemed to get together. Also Ben had to deal with several issues. This was all quite well woven into the story.

Both men, with lovely and plausible personalities, stole my heart. A very enjoyable read.

Intense thoughts, a temporary deal, hot sex and more!
These two had an incendiary, raw connection, one they’d never felt before.
Ben is an ex Army medic, now a doctor at the

Veteran’s Center. He doesn’t want his “hero” title. Ben is a tall, muscled, dark blonde, dark eyes and stubble. A man who strives to help everyone.
Nickolas, (cover) visiting from the UK, is 25,

staying in a friend’s house, is slim, has soft dark hair, blue-grey eyes, with a short beard, an actor caught in a British scandal.

We get a full blown story in this novella. It is full of information, deep thoughts, hot sex and strong characters.

I’ve read the whole series, so I already am familiar with the men of the Veteran’s care center, but the stories can stand alone.

Our two men have a one night stand that expands into many more hot sexy times and their deep connection that is there for a lifetime.
Enjoy !

This was another one of my favs. These are quick, easy to read, a little sexy novellas set in small town Ellery Mountain. I like that Scott opted to introduce two totally new characters - but Ben & Nick fit really well into the world she’s had going and stories that span almost 10 years.

I really enjoyed Nick & Ben as individuals, their initial antagonism, and growth as a couple. While the book is short & set in just a few weeks - I felt like I knew them and they had time to get to know each other. The pacing of the story was well done.

Side note: Zach count is 5. It’s funny how many times she’s used this name for a secondary or background character in the series and none of them are the same person.

This is the first RJ Scott story I’ve read, and I really enjoyed it. Ellery Mountain is a series where each book centres on a different couple, yet those from previous books turn up in later books too. I love this kind of series as it brings with it a mix of meeting new people, yet still checking in on previous characters. As seems to be a trend with me of late, I’m starting with the latest book in the series so need to play catch up. Needless to say, jumping into the series at this point wasn’t detrimental to my enjoyment, apart from leaving me with a feeling of ‘oooh cool, more books to read.’

Nick and Ben are both interesting characters dealing with the consequences of their pasts. When I started reading the book I thought The Saint referred to Ben as he is nicknamed that by the community, but as I kept reading I changed my mind. I think he is The Sinner, at least in his own mind, and Nick—because of his actions in regard to his best friend—is the Saint.

Ben was a harder character to warm up to, but that makes sense as he is struggling to come to terms with his past, and the PTSD that still affects him. There were times when his attitude to Nick and bluntly asking for sex seemed a little out there, but I thought it worked because of his background. His coldness, bluntness, and not wanting to make an emotional connection make sense, and I thought the author did a great job in writing his mindset, and slow thawing as he realises he wants more than just a physical relationship with Nick.

I liked Nick immediately, and his stay in Ellery doesn’t get off on the greatest start. His inner monologue was amusing and I’m always a sucker for a British character. I liked the way he and Ben warm up to each other as friends, and that it does take a while. I loved the way Ben acted protectively toward Nick, even before he admitted how he felt. Actions say more than words and all that.

The supporting cast was great, and I loved the characters who populate the town, apart from one woman to whom Ben gives a piece of his mind. The town felt very real, I could imagine it easily, and I hope there are more books to come in this series, especially as I suspect someone new to this book needs his own happy ending.

I’d recommend The Sinner & The Saint to readers who enjoy light, sweet, contemporary romances with interesting characters, and a great supporting cast.

This is a real treat for any Ellery Mountain fan ... a new story, with some lovely catching up along the way. I have read the whole series over the last few weeks and would recommend that you do the same, as it makes for a really rich experience, which this new book just tops off perfectly.

Somehow we get to meet back up with everyone, but also enjoy a feisty new romance. The first two occasions that these two men meet are hardly auspicious, but as time goes on things change. As we are party to both their thoughts, we know that they are attracted to each other, but neither is ready for anything serious. Ben is determined that he does not deserve to have a loving relationship, whilst Nick is trying to protect his best friend and decide what his next career move will be.

I love the conversations in this book, there is a wonderful mix of humour - the ancient tea bag comment had me chuckling out loud (a Brit thing!) as well as some very passionate and intense moments. Hot, sexy and fun, perfect reading material!

Thank you Ms Scott for bringing these guys back to us again!

Another great read in this series!! I was a little concerned because it's been a while since I read the other books, but no worries at all as this can really be read as a standalone, but I highly recommend the entire series. There is some seriously awesome snarky banter in this book and the boys really work to get to their happy place. It's a hot, angsty read, which I love. My only issue, and it's just the way this series is written, is that once they get there, the book rushes to end even with the sweet epilogue. My romantic side would really love to see just a bit more of these two together because their dialogue was great, and I'm selfish!!

Nick Merrick left England amidst of storm of media attention. Berated for breaking his engagement to the daughter of a prominent member of Parliament, and for being gay and participating in a sex tape scandal, he seeks out the anonymity of his friend Jason’s house in Ellery Mountain while he unwinds and takes time to assess where he’s going with his life. He doesn’t meet his sexy neighbor Ben until Ben reports a break-in at the house where Nick is staying. Not knowing Jason gave someone access to the property, Ben is shocked when the cops show up and he meets the gorgeous guy with the British accent who’s suddenly thrust into his life.

Ben is a doctor, on temporary assignment in Ellery Mountain, working with Daniel to bring a burn unit to the Veteran’s Center. The gruff loner is looked upon as a hero since he’s the man who saved Daniel’s life in the Army but he doesn’t feel heroic. On the inside he’s a mess and considers himself “less than” many others who served their country due to the decisions he had to make that ultimately negatively affected so many good men.

The story moves along anticipated lines with characters from the town, some of whom may be well-known to those who follow the series, interacting with the two MCs. We learn that the media has blown Nick’s problems out of the water and the reality is that he and his fiancé are best friends and the breakup was a way for her to find happiness with the man she really loved. We also learn there are no sex tapes and we get to watch the push-pull sexy interactions between Nick and Ben as they decide to have no-strings sex and nothing more. And we get to see that plan fail.

Typical of RJ Scott’s writing in other books in this series, the MCs find their way to a resolution of their problems and a happy ending. Along the way, some of their problems dissipated rather quickly, some were only superficially addressed, and some played out a resolution.

Though I read books one through three, I haven’t read any since that time. However, it was easy to follow this story. In fact, other than recognizing character names from previous books, it was quite simple to read this and I’m sure anyone can read it as a standalone.

A light, sweet romance mixed with a bit of sex, but thankfully not an overload of it, this book is an easy one-day read.

Sarah – ☆☆☆☆
The first time British ‘It Boy’ Nick meets Ben, he’s wet, naked, and about to be arrested. The relationship does get better, but it takes a while for the aristocratic actor and the military doctor to find their feet.

Both Nick and Ben are pretty typical romance novel leading men. Ben is a veteran with PTSD working to set up a clinic to treat wounded servicemen. He is selfless and just a little bit lonely. I loved Ben, but Nick is a bit harder to like. Running from the press after a high-profile break-up, I kept muttering ‘first world problems’ every time he sulked about things like having too much money or having no focus in his life. He’s a prince from central casting but he does grow up some during the story.

The hook-up to happily ever after storyline is one I like but I know it isn’t for everyone. The sex is crazy hot from the start but the emotional connection between Nick and Ben is a satisfying slow burn.

This is the eighth book in the series and there were lots of references to characters from earlier books. I haven’t read the previous books but this one does work as a standalone and I didn’t feel like I was missing much from the earlier stories.

I love this series!

The Ellery Mountain series is set in the beautiful Smoky Mountains, a place that I have visited many times. With RJ Scott's exceptional description of the scenery in the fictional Ellery Mountain I had no trouble visualizing the place at all. Even if you've never had the good fortune to visit there you will enjoy the books because RJ's writing will allow you to easily imagine you are there.

One of the things I like about these books are that they are novella length stories. I really like this length of book because I can usually read one in just an evening. If you haven't started this series, the fact that they are novellas make it less daunting to start at the beginning since they are so easy to read.

The blurb covers the basics of the story well. I'll tell you about how the book made me feel. The connection between Ben and Nick started out in a very unusual way (read the excerpt that is part of this post). While I wouldn't exactly say this is an enemies to lovers story, they certainly got off on the wrong foot. It didn't take long however for that spark of sexual attraction to lead to hooking up and then to both of them realizing there was something more between them.

I loved how both of them had things going on that strongly affected their lives. Ben's concern for his brother, a fellow soldier who was burned, has led him to his current endeavor of bringing help to veterans with burn injuries through the Veteran's rehab center in Ellery Mountain. Nick sacrificed his reputation to help his best friend even though doing so caused him unwanted attention from the media.

I'm not sure if this is the last book in the series or not. We get to see cameo appearances from many of the characters from the earlier books but you won't feel lost if you haven't read any of them. The Sinner and the Saint stands alone just fine.

An advanced copy of this book was provided to me but my review was voluntary and not influenced by the author.

4 Stars!

Nick Merrick practically escaped from London to hide in Ellery at his friend's home hoping that by the time he's ready to go back, the huge scandal of him leaving his fiancée because he's gay has died down. But things aren't quite so cut and dry and he's not a bad guy.

Ben is rattled when a stranger moves in next door to him, and after calling the police on him, they don't exactly start things off in the right way. However, the attraction is there and since Nick is only staying in Ellery for about a month, what is wrong with having a little fun in the meantime?

I loved Nick, he was supposed to be the sinner in this scenario, but he was nothing of the like. He was a good guy who'd tried to help out his best friend and got caught in the crossfire of her impossible situation with her father. He was sweet and kind and trying to do the right thing, even if it affected him or his career in the long run. I wasn't too sure about Ben at first, and it really took me a bit to warm up to him, because he was so rough around the edges. Once I learned about his backstory and I saw the man hiding behind the rough exterior, it was easier to like him better.

While I thought Nick and Ben had a lot of chemistry, I felt a bit cheated because there was a lot of time spent dealing with Ben's project and not enough time developing a relationship between them. It's not that I didn't like what we got, because I did, these guys were really great together and despite how different their backgrounds were, they complemented each other. It's just that I wanted a bit more.

This is book 8 in a series and while there are some recurring characters from other books, you can perfectly read it as a standalone or out of order. It was a very entertaining and hot sort-of-enemies to lovers, and a great addition to the series!

Recommendable!

I’m so glad we get to back to Ellery Mountain and meet two new characters and be a part of their journey! Not that these two have the best start, but hey, they work it out! I really enjoyed this read, it was a great mix of emotion and chemistry and love too! It may take these two a minute to figure it out but once they do there’s no looking back for Ben and Nick!

Both Ben and Nick are running from a part of their lives, Ben trying to escape the guilt he’s left with from his time in the military and Nick is running from the mess his life became when he came out, a move that may ruin his career but could save his best friend. These two are bristly at first, their first few encounters are not positive. But, as they see each other more and more, the tenseness lessens and their chemistry becomes more apparent. Ben and Nick start off as just a quick hook-up but of course, once isn’t enough and before long there’s feelings involved!

I liked these two together, how quickly they fell for each other even when it just was so not supposed to happen. This is supposed to be a temporary stop for both Ben and Nick and then they find each other. Total swoon. I liked that their story wasn’t overly angsty either, sure these guys have to face challenges, but we see them come together and finally realize what really is important to them. Definitely a great addition to this series!

Just a Tad Below Standard

I love this series--each of the couples have come together in serendipitous and wonderfully compatible ways, and each of them is a whole person. This edition, while living up to the usual angst and commitment to further the goals of the various rehab and medical ventures, misses a couple of marks for me.

Nick, the spoiled and wealthy and guilt-ridden Brit actor who escapes to Ellery Mountain, and Ben, the possible PTSD doctor who goes there for reasons that are also guilt driven, are in theory pretty sympathetic characters. But they somehow both come off as self-centered and selfish until suddenly, out of the blue, after a couple of supposedly non-committal guilt free hook-ups, one of them gets hit by the love thunderbolt.

Nice.

However, it's all a bit rough around the edges, but the characters who show up from the other books--including the irrepressible Norma-Jean--make it worthwhile. One faux pax, however, is the cover: Ben is described as blond. That is not a blond doctor in the background.

Otherwise, it's a good bridge to the next installment.

Ben and Nick meet in unusual circumstances - Nick’s just out of the shower without even a towel and Ben is protecting his friend’s house which he thinks Nick is an unwelcome guest in. Needless to say, they aren’t great friends, but they are attracted to each other...will the instant sparks lead to more than desire?

I enjoyed this story as I have all of the Ellery Mountain stories. There isn’t a great deal of angst and the characters were both easy to fall for. I hated how they thought they could just do sex and be okay with that, but I enjoyed watching them realize it was more than that - and pretty quickly, too.

RJ Scott has a way of creating a world that I want to crawl into and forget the real one I live in. All of the characters in Ellery Mountain make my heart happy and I look forward to more!

Ben is a former army medic who has come to Ellery to help launch a burn support center in the new Veteran's center. He's trying to keep busy and do some good to escape feelings of guilt for all of those he could not save. Nick is in hiding in Ellery in his friend Jason's home to escape scandal and the paparazzi back in England. The two meet, have a rough start, but begin to feel an attraction. They agree to a sex-only relationship, but what happens when they begin to have feelings for each other?

This is the eighth book in the Ellery Mountain series. This book is just as good as the previous books in the series with some of its own unique spins on relationships. Again, the reader gets to keep up with and revisit the going-ons of previous characters in the series. It's a very solid and satisfying read.

Nicholas Merrick comes to Ellery, Tennessee to hide. A B list action movie star hiding from the world after he jilted his fake fiancée/best friend. Scandal following him. After a misunderstanding with local police and a hot medic, his life settles in to small town gossipy life.

Ben Rockwell is in Ellery to facilitate building a Veterans burn clinic. Hiding from what he considers the sins of the past. He never expected to find a beautiful intriguing man to call his own.

They start out as sex partners but the relationship quickly blossoms into true feelings.

Sweet love story, fairly low angst. Good continuation of the series.

Oh how I loved this book! Ben is a veteran and doctor in Ellery and wanting to make up for things that happened when he was in the war. No relationships. Then he meets Nick, movie star, running from scandal across the pond. Nick was the same, no relationships, hook ups only. But when one thing leads to another, those feelings start, emotions start becoming involved and soon they can’t get enough of each other. Can their past be left behind and a future be what they need and want together?

RJ Scott wrote a wonderful book, which I adored, both guys are emotionally lonely. I love how she weaves their story into the fabric of Ellery and the change in the characters from beginning to the end is amazing! This book is really a great read!

Being a medic in the army has left Ben with guilt for those who he could not save. Coming to Ellery Mountain and working at the Veteran's Center has helped make up for those who still haunt him. Leaving London and hiding out in Ellery, Nick is at a crossroads. Choosing between a lie and the truth has made his acting career become something he is willing to walk away from. The circumstances of when Ben and Nick meet only leads the two on a path from enemies to lovers. But will their casual connection become so much more? Or will the two decide that what happens on Ellery Mountain stays on Ellery Mountain? The opening pages made me laugh out loud. The hate/love connection between Ben and Nick could be felt with every chapter. This was a great read.

The story starts with Nick in hiding from the press, Hiding out in Ellery mountain at his friend’s house.
We also have Ben who is looking after Jason’s house (Nicks Friends). So, we start with Ben believing that Jason’s is being burgled and calls the police. This mishap causes irritation between them. There is a spark between them and in a way they both share similar problems.
Nick is hiding from the press after making suggestions to the press, that there is a sex tape of him cheating on his wife. His wife is also his friend from way back and they agreed to marry to keep their parents off their backs. That was until said friend becomes pregnant to her real boyfriend.
Ben A veteran medic struggles to cope with his so-called hero status that locals have given him for saving soldiers in the theatre of war. But Ben can not cope with the guilt of the loss of those men he could not save.
The story is warm and full of emotions and of course hot and sweaty bodies, their journey starts as almost enemies, moves onto no strings sex. Which suits both characters, as neither intend to stay in Ellery Mounting for long, so why not enjoy each other’s company and hot bodies.
All is well until they both find they have feelings creeping into their budding relationship. Can they follow their feelings and move onto a new future and a path that would keep them together? Or is destiny against them?

I loved the contrast of characters, Ben is grouch and Nick can be a little sarcastic, they often rub one another up the wrong way. Both main characters as well as minor character all came across genuine. I like the way characters from other books in the series, make appearances in this one, Its always nice to see a favorite character pop up now and again.
Now I will have to catch up with the books I have not read yet. More nights of late night reading and no sleep for me.

There are so many great couples in this series, but I worried at first about this one. Ben and Nick didn't make a good first, second, or even third impression on each other. Soon, though, I was rooting for them. The neighbors with benefits setup had some intensely hot moments, and the slowly growing friendship was great. I loved the way they slowly began to trust each other. I also enjoyed the glimpses of some of the other couples from the prior books. These men are like friends, and it's great to see them still sappy and happy together. This book was a great installment.

The 4 stars are for the description of the scenery and the coming up of the "old" heroes mainly. It's a nice story but with just changing the sex scenes everything could easily have happened between a female and a male.

Have you ever been to Ellery Mountain? If not you definitely need to go especially after reading The Sinner & the Saint. You need to go meet all of these amazing guys. This story may be my favorite from this series. I mean Nick and Ben are absolutely amazing together even when they weren’t getting along. Once again Rj Scott has introduced us to two men, men she has come to know well , and made them a part of a group of men we will love, root for, and enjoy reading their story.
Their beginning did not start well, but soon the attraction grew, the connection grew and then love was finally allowed into the equation. The sexy Brit and the sexy ex military doctor. Both fighting things in their lives, but they find they can depend on each other in the hard times to have each others back. This was a wonderfully woven story that included miscommunication, denial of attraction, a twisted ankle, lust, friendship and love. Could you ask for anything more? These two strong characters just needed their story told and Rj did a fantastic job!
I HIGHLY recommend this story.

I was given an Advanced Readers Copy for my honest review.

I HONESTLY love Ben and Nicks story.

The Sinner and the Saint is the eighth book in the Ellery Mountain series, and we meet with Nick and Ben. Nick is an actor, by way of rebelling to his silver spoon family. Ben is an army medic, dealing with his own form of PTSD. Both of them are in Ellery for reasons of their own (which the reader finds out as the story moves along.)

Whilst I have thoroughly enjoyed this story, I nevertheless felt a slight disconnect with both characters, but Ben mainly. He gets together with Nick just as a hook up, and I didn't really feel that things changed until right near the end. Nick was clear with his feelings, but with everything else that was going on for him, he didn't move forward as he didn't think there was any point.

On the whole, I still enjoyed this book, and love the Ellery Mountain series. With the usual high standard of writing and editing that I would expect from R.J. Scott, I have no hesitation in recommending this book.

I enjoyed getting to know both Ben and Nick. They both have things that they are running from, but their attraction from the start is off the charts. And the way they meet is very original and the secondary characters are wonderful. Although they gave into their desires at first and truly don't think about a relationship, once they start to get to know one another, both men develop feelings and I loved the ending. It's a sweet story and I enjoyed getting to know this world.

Other than my need for more details, this was a quick read that made me smile! Nick and Ben unexpectedly fell into a relationship... OK, they agreed to have sex and that was it. But, isn't it hilarious how life laughs at you while you are making unrealistic plans and choices? These two were meant to be together, they just took a while to figure it out.
