As his name implies, Tiny Blue is a little penguin, in more than one sense of the word: he belongs to the species Eudyptula minor (also know as blue or fairy penguins) and, as a youngster, he is teeny tiny, even for the smallest penguins in the world.
Like all youngsters, he's absolutely teeming with questions for his dad: 'Is there sand on the moon?' 'Do daddy sea horses have babies?' 'Why can't I fly?' And the million-dollar query: 'What is love?'
PAPA LOVES YOU, TINY BLUE is a charming children's book that celebrates both children's curiosity and the bond between a son and his father. The story is sweet, but Empson's breathtaking illustrations really steal the show.
Papa Loves You, Tiny Blue is a beautiful colorful book featuring a father penguin and a son. Tiny Blue has lots of questions to ask his wise father. Throughout the book, he asked about how old the ocean is, why he can’t fly, what’s the biggest fish in the ocean, how do you find your way home, what is love, and much more. At the end of the book, she answered some of the questions that Tiny Blue asked but didn’t get answered technically in the story.
I would recommend this awesome children’s book to children aged 1 to 8. I immensely loved how big this book was. It had a massive size 11 x 12 inches according to Amazon. I liked how they designed it that way where it is able to lure and keep our children’s attention. I loved the beautiful ocean colors and the drawings all of the sea creatures: jelly fish, seahorses, whales, different fishes, starfish, to name a few. The sunset pictures are also incredible and makes me want to live at the ocean. I also loved the message behind the book and how his biggest questions is: what is love and how it’s endless.
"I received this book free from the publisher, Hachette Book Group/Faithwords/ Worthy Kids for my honest review.”
"Some questions are so big we will never know the answer. Now, good night, Tiny Blue. I love you,” Papa tells the penguin in Jo Empson’s children’s book, Papa Loves You, Tiny Blue.
~ What ~ This thirty-two-page oversized hardbound with a matching jacket targets children three- to six-year-olds who love to learn about penguins and how they live and love. With no scary scenes except the suggestion that seals eat penguins, its beautiful watercolor illustrations and easy-to-read font cover the pages. The inner flap jacket contains the book’s description and the author’s biography.
This charming story involves a little penguin named Tiny Blue who idolizes his father by repeatedly asking him questions. As they walk on the seashore, stand on rocks, swim in the deep water, watch a sunset, and settle to sleep in their nest, the parent answers many questions about the age of the ocean, why penguins cannot fly, what jellyfish are, what is the biggest fish, and other interesting questions. When the father is asked if he knows everything, the dad says nobody does but that he loves him, which is the biggest mystery of all.
~Why ~ This is a heartfelt story as it not only contains interesting facts about animals that live in the sea but also how a little one completely trusts his parent to be told the truth. I love the amazing artwork that is beautiful and engaging for all ages. The story is tender in how it promotes love is a mystery that cannot be explained, but we know when we love someone else.
~ Why Not ~ Those who do not like large books with oversized artwork may want to pass on this read, but they would be missing out. A few may think the little one’s questions go unanswered, but three of them are explained after the story ends with a question to the reader if there are others to ask. Beginner readers may have trouble with the three-syllable words.
~ Wish ~ It would be nice if other animal stories were written in this format that would include both educational information and an underlining theme of love, hope, or kindness.
~ Want ~ If you are looking for a beautiful book that will be cherished by young ones, this one that explains penguins and the sea plus promotes a bond between a parent and child would be an excellent choice.
Thanks to Hachette Book Group, WorthyKids, and the author for this complimentary book that I am under no obligation to review.
This is a story dedicated to the love between a child and his Papa. In this case, the Papa and child are penguins! As the little one asks lots of big questions, his Papa gives him the answers through words and actions.
Beautiful pictures, done by the author, illustrate their home and the questions that are asked. They capture the wonder and love that exists between the two, as well as, the large world the two live in.
The little one’s biggest question is wanting to know what love is. Even though Papa is getting tired of answering so many questions, he doesn’t hesitate to explain love, and to assure the little one that his Papa will always love him.
The illustrations in this over-sized picture book are a vital part of the story, and will amaze both the reader and child alike. This five-star book is recommended for preschoolers through first grade.
Worthy Kids has provided Tickmenot with a complimentary copy of, Papa Loves You, Tiny Blue, for the purpose of review.
Papa Loves You, Tiny Blue is about a daddy penguin and a baby penguin, Tiny Blue, who has tons and tons of questions as children often do. The watercolor pictures illustrate the two penguins walking along the beach while Tiny Blue asks his questions. This book reminds me of when my son was around one and a half years old and one of his classmates hijacked my mother, who was visiting my son that day. He kept asking "Why?" questions. He was persistent and continued to ask. This is exactly who Tiny Blue is. "Will I fly?" "What are those?" "Will you always keep me safe?"
This is a very visually appealing book that tells a very special story about a father's love (and patience) for his child. I could look through this book many times and still see something new each time. While this is not a board book, this book would be great to read to children of every age. Its also a wonderful way to get dads to read to their children as most books come from a mother's perspective.
I received this book from Hachette Book Group for free in exchange for an honest review.
Jo Empson is both the author and illustrator of Papa Loves You, Tiny Blue. Her text captures the questioning mind of a toddler perfectly. Her “Papa'' does an excellent job of fielding all of those questions in a patient and loving way. Empson’s watercolor illustrations are beautiful and complement the text well. Her technique does an excellent job of portraying the movement of the characters through the water. Papa Loves You, Tiny Blue would be a great book for a single dad to share with his child - there is no mom in the story. Papa Loves You, Tiny Blue would also make a great addition to a sea/ocean unit in an elementary classroom. Tiny Blue asks many questions related to life in/near the ocean. His questions could be great springboards for student research. I think that Papa Loves You, Tiny Blue would make a great addition to a K-12 Christian school library picture book collection. I received a complimentary copy of Papa Loves You, Tiny Blue. This is my honest review.
Tiny Blue is an inquisitive little blue penguin with big questions for his papa, such as “What’s the largest fish in the ocean?” Papa answers most of Tiny Blue’s questions, but is a little stumped when he asks the biggest mystery of all, “What is love?” and “How do you know you love me?” Papa’s answer is the best answer ever and warms my heart.
I love this book. The cover is so pretty and the illustrations throughout are colorful and engaging. Tiny Blue reminds me of my children when they were little, asking so many questions and thinking I knew all the answers. The hard cover has the same cover art as the slipcover, with a glossy feel. Papa Loves You, Tiny Blue is an adorable keepsake children’s book for readers 3-6 years old.

The book's plot involves Tiny Blue, who is a blue or fairy penguin, which is the smallest species of penguin. While walking with his father, Tiny starts asking him many questions like "How old is the ocean" and "Will I fly," along with several other questions about nature and the environment that they live in. He also asks his father about love, and what it is. The father tries to answer some of the questions, while others he does not answer while the two swim in the ocean and walk on the beaches. The book is a mix of nature and story with colorful illustrations. For an in-depth review, visit my page at : https://lancewrites.wordpress.com/202...
Such an adorable book about the love between a parent and a child and the BIG questions.
Was telling my dad about this book because it reminded me about our relationship and he went "the annoying thing about you having grown up is that so have your questions and I no longer know the answers to them" and I proceeded to ask him if he knows how many different species of penguins are in the world. He didn't. (But we googled it! Answer is 17 to 19 species!)
A special book for Daddy's to read to their children. Tiny Blue spends a day with his Papa and asks all the curious questions he has about life and his environment. "Tiny Blue is very small, but his head is filled with very BIG questions." Can his Papa answer the biggest question of all. This book is recommended for all children but those 5 and over will get the most benefit from its charming and sweet story. Beautifully illustrated by author Jo Empson.
Tiny Blue is a little penguin who has very big questions for his father. As his father answers the questions, Tiny Blue continues to ask even more questions. His father continues to answer all the questions, but when Tiny Blue presents the most challenging question of all, his father replies with an interesting yet simple response.
This book is ADORABLE! The art in it is amazing and so beautiful! Such a nice color palette! The story is very sweet and captures the relationship between a parent and their young child perfectly. Plus, you learn some facts along the way about animals and other things in the story! And the questions that Tiny Blue doesn't get the answers to are answered for you in the back of the book! Love it!
Kauniisti kuvitettu kuvakirja elämän suurista kysymyksiä ja isän poikastaan kohtaan tuntemasta rakkaudesta. Jos pidit tästä, niin ota haltuun myös Ninka Reittun Sinä olet superrakas.
Tiny Blue is a little fairy penguin with lots of VERY big questions-- some not even Papa knows the answer to! This tender picture book of a day at the ocean will melt your heart.
It seems like most children go through a phase where they ask lots and lots of questions. Sometimes it is fun and sometimes it can be exasperating, if we are honest. I love how Papa Penguin has lots of patience in answering his little boy penguin in Papa Love You, Tiny Blue by Jo Empson.
Papa Loves You, Tiny Blue is full of beautiful water color illustrations of life in and by the ocean for penguins. The book is a large size for little hands to hold at approximately 11 inches by 12 inches in size. It is a great book to read together before bed. I like that this book features the dad telling his thoughts and parenting the young one. This book also gives a glimpse into the life of penguins and other animals by the ocean and in the ocean. It is both lovely for animal lovers and for those who cherish love between family members. I highly recommend Papa Loves You, Tiny Blue.
I received a copy of this book from the publisher. All opinions within this review are my own.
