Kyla Sharp writes best-selling psychological thrillers, such as Don’t Leave Me Alone and If We Kill Her. She grew up in Chicago and now lives in Australia.
Enjoyed this story. It is a fast read. Did not expect that ending. This book, at this time, is an ebook the author gives out to newsletter subscribers. It is a book about friendship that goes badly. There were a few twists. Some I saw coming but others just popped out. Get this one while you can. Be careful who you are friends with!
I enjoyed this book. It was a short, fast paced thriller. So definitely needed something short after finishing the Mindf*** series. I’m looking forward to reading more books by Kyla!
The same economy of writing as in The Lies She Sold, and the same first-person narration of a young woman mesmerised by the actions of the people around her, and whose internal monologue is focussed entirely on other people. In this book, though, even the reminiscences focus more on what other people are doing rather than her own thoughts. This is actually a plus as lengthy, introspective works from characters who can't solve their problems are gut-wrenchingly dull to me.
The essential insight comes on pp 47-50, through a magazine article read by the protagonist, and is thus not as convincing as the realisation that comes to the protagonist in The Lies She Sold. Nonetheless, the insights make the protagonist's motivations clearer.
The subtitle, 'A gripping psychological thriller with an end you won't see coming' really does write a cheque the book can't cash—I had seen the end coming by page 61. Still, it's well-handlded. After the end I wouldn't see coming, the narrative falls off a cliff, and the final chapter makes no sense given what's been set up in the narrative beforehand.
Authors can start off great and, when they examine their own work, can get detoured into some type of style or plot that they don't handle so well. Has this happened here? On to Don't Leave Me Alone to find out.
An inventive tale of revenge on many levels for more that is known by all. Kyla Sharp unravels the story beat by beat as your emotions are pushed to their limits for rights wronged. It's yours to judge of the right and wrong of it. I loved it!!!!
Fantastic... pacey, engaging and a real page turner. I connected with the characters and was totally invested in their story. Will read more by this author.
She ruined their lives...now they want to take hers.
I was inspired to write this book thinking of female friendships I've had in the past. I've never been friends with a psychopath (that I know of!), but I know from experience that female friendships can be as intense (if not more so!) than some romantic partner relationships. Especially in your 20s as a young woman, men may come and go, but your female friends stick by your side through it all.
I wondered what it would be like if one of those friends betrayed you in one of the worst ways possible, and then you later learned more about her, thinking your whole friendship had been one big lie—or one big manipulation. How would you feel? What would you do to protect other women you saw falling for the same trap?
This is a short book, but it was fun to write, and should be a breeze to read. I hope you enjoy it!
A short, sharp, rollercoaster of a read! Loved the concept and the craziness. In places I felt it needed more character development but otherwise a perfect psychological thriller.
A good novella about the problems of being friends with a psychopath. Intrigued? You'd be right to be as it's a twisty tale - some twists you might spot, others are a bit more surprising - & which, at times, had me pitying Dale & at others despairing of her actions.
It's a good read which I'd have given 4 stars to but for the final chapter, which I think I've totally missed the point of.
This was a free e-book from subscribing to the author's newsletter & it's certainly whetted my appetite for more.
This was quite a fun short read, although the subject matter was not fun if that makes sense. I just loved it especially all the twists and turns that worked its way through and the ending was brilliant.
I was given this book free by the author as an introduction into her writing and I am so looking forward to engaging with her stories more and more. She seems to have such an interesting mind and I cant wait to see where that goes.
Amazing novella. Great twist. Really liked how the author switches between the timelines and explains the entire plot and why the main character, Dale intends to kill her former best friend, how she was betrayed, and the psychology.
