Re-read 10/23/25 not sure why to be honest since it was just like I remembered 😅
3 generous stars
I wanted to love this book but didn't. Which sucks because usually this book would be right up my ally...IMO they got together and became a couple way to fast, moving in with a kid that fast is also not reasonable. They don't ever really talk about Natalie and why he chose her over the h, was she mean and unfriendly to the h all the time or just that once...I needed more details then we were given. Some important discussions never happened that should of. On the plus side I do believe he loves the h more
Let me start by saying that this author writes very clever and funny dialogue. This series has stories that are OTT but are super entertaining if that’s your cup of tea.
But… DNF @65%. There were two major issues I had that I just couldn’t get past. The first being the stalker situation. The h is a social worker, she’s experienced, she even says at one point hey I know what abuse looks like but she is in 1000% denial about what is happening in her own life. Her ex makes a copy of her apartment key without her permission, allowing himself entry in the middle of the night, but essentially brushes it off. She moves back home, buys a new house, he shows up in town and breaks into her new house leaving freaking lingerie on her bed and she absolutely insists that he’s no threat, he’d never be capable of physically hurting her, you (H who is the sheriff) are COMPLETELY overreacting, gets angry with H and acts like a child when he insists on setting up alarm system etc. Then someone throws a rock through her freaking window that bashes her in the face and she’s still on this denial train. There is no way a reasonable person has a rock smash through their window and is not instantly absolutely terrified. She’s like yeah “probably just some kids”!
This is one of those books that reminds me why I don’t do dead spouse books. I knew Jack was devastated but I was really interested to see how his story would unfold. Plus I’m always a sucker for a cute kid. But he’s really a dumbass and a selfish one to boot. Yes, let’s block other men from pursuing h, immediately insert yourself in her life with really no regard for h’s boundaries, then when h caves you say:
“I’m not saying I love you.” Her face fell, but I needed her to understand. “It wouldn’t be fair for me to tell you I love you.”
NOOOOOOOOOO. I couldn’t continue. I wish h would just run off into the sunset with plaid man and live her best life.

Why it that the H gets to have a wife and kid, move on and the h gets an crazy ex, traumatic job and has to move home to nothing…but him. No competition or anything happy for her just H. It would have been great to see the h get some good before she moved home - all she got is a so called H who choose someone else over h and then she gets what’s left over. Jack is a douche, brody was the only highlight of this story for me. And even up to 90% … he doesn’t love her…he just knows he can’t lose her. “It’s you, it’s always been you” - HEA🙄 it takes h to be kidnapped and nearly killed for him to say ILY.

What an enjoyable this one was. We loved the characters. Love when characters get a second chance to do it right. From the moment you started turning the pages, you just knew this story was going to be full of heartbreak.
The story was filled with a ton of emotion, a life that is messy also about forgiveness and pain. Jacks son was just precious and melted our heart.
Christy life has turned dark he work took her there also life, and she decides the returning home is the healing she needs. We loved Christy, she was sweet, kind and loving. Christy was also a bit spicy, and we found that she made us laugh more than a few times throughout the story. Our heart broke for her, from suffering in silence for loving a man who did not love her back to witnessing unspeakable things and feeling responsible for the tragedy that occur.
Jack was a great character also a great dad, loved his job, a man who had suffered a loss and a man who could be so dense you wanted to slap him on more than a dew occasion and say wake up and see what is right in front of you for once.
Jacks friends were awesome, we have to say that poker night had us almost peeing our pants, we never laughed so hard. LOL
Overall this story had a bit of a mystery full of suspense, love, healing, letting go of the past, and forgiveness and new beginnings. The story also touch on a subject on how our system is broke and needs to be fixed. We loved the heartfelt tale and would love to dive right into the beginning of the series and get caught up to speed and looking forward to the newest release in this ongoing series. Love when an author makes you fall in love with its characters right from the beginning because you know right them and there you are going to love what happens going forward.
I didn’t let the horror of what was the previous book deter me from reading this next book in the series. Though the idiot that was the heroine of that book made a few appearances in this one which helped lower the grade. I can’t remember a time when this happened.
This is Jack’s story. Jack, the town sheriff has been in a number of books now. In one of the previous books his wife was brutally murdered and he’s been bitter and angry ever since. But in The Four Horsemen a dear friend from his past comes back to town. When they were much younger Christy and Jack were inseparable. All through their young lives they were the closest of best friends. But then Jack met Natalie, his future wife and he left Christy behind. And this devastated Christy as unbeknownst to Jack, she had been in love with him most of her life and since she couldn’t bear to see him with another woman. She left their small town and hasn’t been back in years.
But working as a social worker in Chicago, something horrific happened and with Jack’s wife no longer an issue, she needs the comfort of ‘home’ and moves back. When Jack finds out Christy is back to stay he is ecstatic his dear friend is back. But Christy is cold to him. She’s still in love with him and doesn’t want the heartache it could cause to be around him.
This book is so much better than the previous book. I did get a bit frustrated with the both of them at times though. He is so oblivious to her feelings about Jack, I wanted to shake him at times. And I wanted Christy to really let him know how much he broke her. They do both get it eventually so that was good. As with all the other books in this series there is a great deal of humour and it’s just my kind of humour. There was one scene of a guy’s poker night where they are all trying to convince this annoying guy all about poker night and it was so hilarious .
There are quite a few characters and at times it got a bit confusing trying to place all of them but it wasn’t that big of an issue, half a point deduction. And overall I’m still very much enjoying the series. This is a RS so there are some dark scenes in it as well. But this book does get a thumbs up from me.
This one has been a long time coming and it was so worth the wait!
Christy is a newly introduced character for us readers and it was surprising how quickly the heart can break for a completely new character considering how invested I am in the stories of the characters we already know and love. It only took one chapter for me to already have strong feelings on behalf of her and it didn’t stop. Now for the man of the hour, Jack. I love that we finally have his story and he is going to get his second chance at love and happiness. Though it seems that when it comes to that chance Jack is taking a page straight from the Cortell brother handbook and heading straight into overprotectiveness, even if some of it is warranted.
I loved the history between Jack and Christy. These two are old friends and whilst Christy may be determined to not let Jack close enough to hurt her again; Jack is elated to have his once best friend back in his life. Now, only if he can get to the bottom of why she left, the hurt he feels over this unknown thing which tore them apart and why she wants nothing to do with him. I was wishing for these two to finally be together from very early on in the book and couldn’t get enough of them as a couple. Add in Brody (Jack’s son) and they made such a sweet family. It will be hard for anyone not to adore them.
As always it isn’t just the main characters who makes these books so great. Like with Carter’s book the friendship between Jack and Carter stands out. With Jack taking the long way round when it comes to realising a few things Carter is doing what he does best, playing match maker. Another stand out character for me was Christy’s dad. That man was hilarious. I thought it was great how quickly he flipped his switch when it came to Jack a few times in this book. There is nothing like a protective dad to make you laugh and Giulia ended the book with a brilliant line from him. There are also appearances from our favourite band of brothers and the other characters met in this series so far.
With a last-minute town cook off, the reappearance of Mrs Cranston’s hot men of the town Facebook page, sham poker nights, questionable but funny conversations on how to get the girl, and a second chance at love. How could you not want to read this?
This is the fourth book in this series and the one I’ve been waiting for, Jack’s story, and it was absolutely fabulous! Jack and Christy were best friends growing up, but she had left him behind, the best friend she was in love with, when he found someone else. Now Christy has left her job and is back in town, and she’s determined to stay away from Jack, however he’s not going to make it easy for her. This was such a touching story, with amazing characters, an entertaining storyline, and filled with funny moments, twists, suspense, and steamy scenes. A definite MUST READ book and series!
Fun, sexy mexy, plenty of action and yes at times tears.
This is by far the best series and the offspring series I have read this year.
The complex threads that Giulia weaves her stories, and her characters keeps you coming back for more. You will be riveted to the pages and find that hours have passed by the time you manage to pull yourself away.
You will laugh your arse off when you are not sweating through the action.

When I saw that Jack got his own story I was happy. His character in the previous books intrigued me and I wanted to find out more about him. Lossing his wife and having to care for his son on his own he has had a rough time of it lately. Giulia does a wonderful job of having us feeling all emotional but at the same time has you laughing at the banter of the guys. You will feel the heartache that he has gone through and is going through in this book. Four Horsemen introduces us to an old friend of Jack's that is back, Christy.
Jack has been raising Bordy for four years on his own after his wife was killed by a man that was after Carly, Josh's wife. Jack has had a hard time letting go of the murder and blaming Josh and Carly. He is also struggling working in the sheriff's department and raising Brody. He gets a surprise of his life when his childhood best friend, Christy, comes back to town after being gone for 7 years. Jack wants to pick up the friendship where they left off, but can they? He never really knew why she left and will he ever find out? Over time Jack and Christy get close but there is something haunting Christy as well as someone is invading her personal life. How does Jack deal with this person? Does his police brain take over and worry about her?
Christy is a social worker that has just witnessed a horrific scene that she cannot forget nor keep doing her job because. The person she feels is responsible for the situation is not charged but unfortunately, she meets him and is creeped out. She also has broken up with her boyfriend but he is not getting the idea and breaks into her apartment. She decides to go back home and try to start a new life. The one person she does not want to see is the first person she sees, Jack. Why? He broke her heart when he asked Natalie to marry him, so she left. Christy loved Jack almost as long as she knew him. They did everything together. She cannot go back to the way things were with Jack and she wanted to keep away but when she finds a package of lingerie in her new house she lets Jack stay with her. Who sent the package? When more things start happening and showing up, Jack gets nervous but Christy doesn't. When things escalate, what will Jack do? Can she trust Jack not to break her heart again? When tragedy strikes, Jack turns to someone that nobody expected him to ask for help from.
Jack & Christy's story is one that is easy to love and enjoyable to read. They had so much chemistry and the love that they shared was off the charts. Seeing Jack get a second chance at love and Christy to get her true love was beautiful. The poker nights, advice on how to get the love of your life back, the way that the town rallies behind Jack and Christy and the famous Facebook town page, add a few laughs that have you holding your stomach. I cannot wait to see what Giulia has in store for the next installment.
A second chance at love for a man who thought he lost everything. The only thing keeping him going is his young son. Will he ever get over his loss? His deputy and friend, Carter thinks it’s time for Jack to find a woman, if not for a permanent relationship at least for some fun. Jack it just starting to find his way back to his regular life and repair his friendship with Josh, but is he ready to move on in other ways?
Christy has been through a tragic ordeal and is looking to move back home to her small town where she grew up. She left for Chicago when she realized that the man she had been in love with found someone else. Christy thought there was more between them, but she realized it was all one sided, or was it? Was Jack just fighting his feelings because he was afraid to lose his best friend?
I am so in love with Giulia Lagomarsino’s books! Her stories are always full of fun, tragedy, love, sexy men and sassy women. Every book I’ve by her has been such a great read. Her characters always have so much depth to them and the stories are always so fun to read. There are parts that brings tears to my eyes, but the books always leave a lasting impression on me, and I can’t seem to get enough of her stories. Jack’s story was a long time coming, but it definitely did not disappoint. I have been wanting to read this story for some time and I am so happy with the result. The characters are always so entertaining and enjoyable to read. The stories are heartfelt and fun, but they have a bit of everything. If you are looking for a series of books that will have you waiting anxiously for the next story to come out, you need to pick up Giulia Lagomarsino’s books. I loved Jack and Christy’s story and I am anxious for the next one, I give this story a 5-star review and if I could, I would give it more.
I wasn't sure how I would take to Jack after his behavior in the last of the Cortell Brothers books and his cranky-self beginning in this series. I know he was dealing with the loss of his wife, but let's be honest, Jack got stuck in the anger phase of grief after his wife died, and he was not a nice person. He did much to redeem himself in Corduroy's book, Ace Magnets, and we got to see his funny side shine through. Honestly, from the beginning of Four Horsemen, I wondered if I would ever like Jack. Before she moved to Chicago, his dealings with Christy showed how self-centered and oblivious he was, and I was not hopeful I would ever come to like Jack.
Then Guilia worked her comedic magic, and we began to see that Jack has grown, realized he can be a jerk, and faced the fact he made a big mistake all those years ago. He wouldn't change things because he wouldn't have his adorable son, but Jack realized he's always loved Christy. Now we get to add in a serial killer, the Chili Man, the Cortell Brothers, Corduroy, Antonio, and Nathan, and we have another hilarious yet touching story from Guilia.
I know we're getting close to the end of this series, but I have come to love all the wacky people who live in this small Indiana town, the town Facebook page, and all the shenanigans these folks get up to regularly. It's going to be hard to leave them all, but then again, we still don't know what happened to the entire Reed Security team--they could be off somewhere wreaking their unique brand of havoc. Until then, I will enjoy my time with the crazies I have here and love every minute of it.

Four Horseman is book four in the series; A Good Run of Bad Luck, which is a spinoff series from The Cortell Brothers. These books should be read in order to have a better understanding of the characters and town. This is a small town, second chance, friends to lovers romance, focusing on Jack and Christy's journey.
FINALLY Jack's story has arrived! This has been the most anticipated book for me since book three in the Cortell Brothers Series. Jack has been through a ton of grief and change the last four years. It's been hard for him to adjust and live life. There's a lot of layers to him and he's moody AF. Sometimes he can be dense, especially when it comes to women, he's def out of touch.
Christy is caring, hard working, and passionate. But her life is at a stalemate and she's just coasting by. Sick of trying to please others she's on the brink of breaking. Tramatic events have her hightailing it back to her hometown where she has no choice but to face her old best friend and lifelong crush.
The story was unpredictable and had some graphic and gruesome parts that may cause trigger. It was also mysterious, twisted, entertaining, emotional, funny... basically ALL the feels. There was Classic Cortell banter throughout and Classic Corduroy meddling. It was a relief to have Jack finally get his happily ever after. No one deserves it more then him. Looking forward to more of this series.
I'm not real sure how I missed this gem in my reading list, but the 'Four Horsemen' is the fourth book in Giulia Lagomarsino's "A Good Run of Bad Luck" series and it's not to be missed. Jack and Christy had been neighbors and grown up together as best friends their entire lives. Every first had been shared with each other, except sex. To Jack, they were the closest of best friends. To Christy, her friendship had turned into hero worship and then love. And then Jack met Natalie and all that changed. When Jack called Christy to come over and announced he was going to ask Natalie to marry him, Christy knew she couldn't stay and watch the man she loved be with another woman. That's when she decided to take the job with the Chicago Department of Children and Family Services and leave town. Now, seven years later, so many things have changed and Christy has returned home to heal but how to do that and keep her distance from Jack and protect her heart may be more difficult than she imagined. Especially, when Jack wants to pick up exactly where they left off. Or does he? What a wild, emotional rollercoaster this one was. Of course, it had the comic relief moments with the Social Media page and I swear, Carter actually made some kind of sense there for a bit … whodathunkit?!? I think what tickled me the most though was poker night with Chili Man. I had tears rolling!! This was just outstanding
Finally Jack gets his story. I've been waiting for this one ever since he was introduced in Wanted Dead Or In Love, and the antics he got upto made me want to read this even more.
Let me tell you that this book did not disappoint. For me it literally had everything that I could want from a book.
Jack lost his wife in a tragic accident and ever since then he's been trying his best to be both parents to his little boy. He is also trying to move on and if he happens to give out parking tickets or randomly locking up the Cortell brothers, that's the icing on his cake. But now he's trying to be the person he once was and not the person he has become. The only question is, how do you do that when there's a hole inside of you?
Christy is on a mission to save the world, one child at a time. But what happens when the system you work for fails you? This is one woman who tries to rise above that, while also trying to keep from falling for her best friend.
What I love about this book is that it is a second chance love story. But it's a second chance at life that makes the difference this time. It's about shifting your mindset and embracing opportunities.
Of course it won't be a Guilia Lagomarsino book without Corduroy playing cupid, and this time he has assistance from his very own lady love. But there is plenty of love and laughs for everyone.
Four Horsemen is a story that I've been waiting impatiently on for what seems like a very long time. See, Jack has been in The Cortell Brothers on top of A Good Run of Bad Luck, and things have happened to him that has made him kind of a pain in the behind to say the least LOL! I'm not going to come off that information in case you haven't read the previous books (I would have to tell you that you're absolutely insane if you haven't btw). He's been alone for a cool minute but then his best friend, Christy, has moved back home. She's been in love with him since they were in High School, but she left town when he found someone else, and hasn't been home ever since until things went sideways at her current job. She doesn't want to be close to Jack, but he's definitely not going to stand for that, and with some ridiculous advice from his friends, he goes about trying to explore what he's just now seeing. It wouldn't be a Giulia Lagomarsino story if there weren't twists coming into play, or the humor (Abby's mad driving skills LOL) that get the snorting laughter, so Four Horsemen has both, with a big kicker of angst and of course the heat. Now this is one more book down so I hope to hell we're getting closer to me getting answers about my all time favorite security guys (MY GOSH HINT HINT LOL), and that's all from me! HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND!
The story has laughs, pain, secrets, second chances, and heartbreak.
If you have not read the below, I would recommend reading those books(s) first. Maintenance Required (The Cortell Brothers #1) Collateral Damage (The Cortell Brothers #2) Wanted Dead Or In Love (The Cortell Brothers #3) Textbook Approach (The Cortell Brothers #4) Priceless Ink (The Cortell Brothers #5) Tangled Web (The Cortell Brothers, #6) Dead Man's Hand (A Good Run of Bad Luck #1) Drawing Dead (A Good Run of Bad Luck #1.5) The Dirty (A Good Run of Bad Luck #2) Ace Magnets (A Good Run of Bad Luck #3)
This is Christy and Jack’s story. Christy is new to this series but not the town. She grew up with Jack and was friends with him. She loved him but he didn’t know and fell for another. She left town. Now years later she is back. His wife is gone, and he is barely holding it together. He wants to have the friendship they had before, and she does not. But she is surrounded by danger, and he is going to make sure she is taken care of. She is in denial about the danger she is in. She thinks someone would not hurt her, but Jack knows better. The town’s people get involved and want these two together, but they are fighting the pull. Can they take care of the danger and figure out their feelings before one is lost forever?
This is the 5th book in author Giulia Lagomarsino's series "A Run of Bad Luck." There are 10 books available in the series and I just finished the last one, regrettably. I am a geriatric widowed lady who reads 6-10 books a week. I don't have time to read uninteresting books. I read these books in order and and not a single one loses your attention. They are exciting, fun, include great humor mixed with thrills, and they will keep you up until the wee hours of the morning because you just don't want to put the book down to sleep.
This 5th book, Four Horsemen, is about Jack and Christy, who were best friends from childhood. Circumstances parted them until Christy witnessed a double murder and returned to her home town again. Terror followed her home, and Jack is not only the head lawman in their small town but he finally recognizes his love for Christy. It's a battle to the end of the story and what a story it is! While I love each and every book in this series, my next favorite has to be the first book, Dead Man's Hand, which is about Antonio and Ciara (and Jo). No. 1 book will also grab your attention and I defy you not to fall a little bit in love with the bad boy, Antonio. This entire series is SO GOOD. If you have never read this author before, take a chance now. You won't be sorry. As for me, I am going to start with the first book in another series of hers.
I am new to Ms. Lagomarsino, I couldn’t ask for a better series to start with than her Good Run of Bad Luck series. These books have had me laughing, sighing and at times on the edge of my seat. Four Horsemen has all these in spades. It’s well written and all the main characters are present and accounted for.
In the Four Horsemen, we get Jack, the Sheriff’s, story. If you kept up with the series, you know Jack is a widower with a precocious young son, who will steal your heart. It’s been over 4 years but Jack still isn’t over the death of his wife. He in fact is a shell of his former self. But when his best friend Christy, who left town and him with no word several years ago, suddenly moves back to town, something inside of Jack sparks. But their past has caused a huge riff between them. Can Jack figure out why Christy left and why she seems to want nothing to do with him now?
Their story is one that will break your heart as well as truly melt you to a puddle of goo. It will also have you laughing out loud at the characters banter, and crazy antics. I can’t recommend this book/series enough.
Oh man we finally have Jack's story and dang is it good. I loved that Giulia Lagomarsino not only shows us him as a loving father but also a man of the Law determined to help his best friend no matter how much she denies the help. Seeing these two together it hardly seems like they have been apart yet seeing Christy hesitate you can tell she still loves him. They say distance makes the heart yearn more and boy you can see it with these two. Not only do we have them coming together but someone wants Christy to pay with her life. We see a scared woman just trying to find peace from the nightmares and Jack is perfect with her giving her space yet showing his love in every way. Once again we see the whole gang and seeing them give Jack advice, even Curdoroy and Antonio was funny. All in all seeing Jack and Christy together, sharing what they have gone through was in a way like coming full circle for them in their friendship. Loved it and so excited to see there is so much more coming.
"I received an eBook copy from the publisher for the purpose of an honest review. I was not compensated for this review: all conclusions are my own."
A second chance romance. I loved this story! Jack has been struggling since the death of his wife, and he’s been grumpy & arresting people just because he can. When Christy, a child protection social worker, experiences a traumatic event, she returns to her small hometown. There’s a huge amount of history between these two, and a town full of people cheering them on. I will wondered how Natalie would fit into the storyline & Corduroy’s explanation made sense. As we’ve seen throughout the series, Jack is a bit slow to process things but gets there in the end. Christy’s vulnerable, independent, sassy—her homecoming would have been a huge deal for her.
There’s the quirky characters (Chilli Man on poker night-perfect!) and those like Antonio, who find redemption over time. The author does a fantastic job of changing up the plots but reminding us of past events and always has memorable characters that we revisit.
I received a copy of this book. My honest opinion is voluntarily provided.
Can our favourite Sheriff get out of the friends zone and finally get his forever love?
Jack and Christie were best friends growing up. To everyone around them it was obvious they would be together forever. That was until Jack found Natalie. They grew apart and eventually Christie moved away to make a life on her own. Many things have happened over the years, including Jack losing the love of his life when Natalie was killed in tragic circumstances. But was she truly the love of his life? When Christie returns after a traumatic experience with her job she vows not to get close to Jack, but he isn't going to make it easy for her!
As usual Giulia drags you into the storyline with humour and suspense all in one book. We get to see the Carter / Jack bromance continue from where it left off in Carter's book, and of course, even though he has got his girl, Carter still has to play cupid to his best friend. We see bridges built, forgiveness, chilli cook offs and plaid all the way in this book. A fantastic read and can't wait for the next in the series.
I received an ARC copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving this review
This book was one of my top faves of this series. Bring on Christy. About stinking time. Believe me, she was due like last year.. Haha. Christy and Jack grew up together. She was in love with him, but they were best friends. As they grew older, so did her love for Jack. Jack found Natalie; the one he married, and had a family together with, until she died. If you've read any of these books, you know that Jack has been a constant bear. Now that Christy is back in town for good, Jack believe he can pick up where they left off, but for Christy, it doesn't work that way. She makes him work for it. Something has Christy running from Chicago, the daycare teacher is trying too hard, and Carter is up to no good when it comes to Jack and his relationship with Christy. Throw in Antonio, and a few other Cortell brothers, and you got your self one emotional book, that has been long over due.
He's been alone for years. Brody hardly knew his mom. He's making an effort to move on.
She left when her best friend, the man she'd loved most of her life, found someone else. Years later her job became more than she could handle in CPS (Child Protective Sevices) and she decided to move back to the small town where'd she'd be safer and could start over--if only she could ignore him.
Where would there be a story if she succeeded? Just to make sure, the job she gets happens to be at the daycare his adorable son goes to. Ignoring him doesn't work. Eventually, things start to progress. Can they really find a new future? Or, will her past come back as more than nightmares but a threat to her life?
We still get to see all the guys and gals work to help their relationship along. The town is right there supporting them for the most part. Funny times, emotional times, and scary times.
Ever since his wife passed away Jack has been struggling as he tries to give the son the life he deserves while being resentful about the hand that life has dealt him. When his best friend Christy returns to town, he knows that there is a lot more to the story than he knows but she is determined to keep an emotional distance between them, and he is determined to know why.
Circumstances have brought Christy back to her hometown but that doesn’t mean she is about to forget the past. They were best friends as children however when her feelings for him became deeper and he fell in love with his wife it was less painful to leave than to stay.
I have enjoyed seeing the evolution of Jack’s character as the series progressed and it was wonderful to see him and Christy find their way back to each. Captivating characters, a little suspense and a whole lot of fun that will keep you entertained from beginning to end.
This is the fourth book in this incredible series and is Jake and Christy’s story. I have been waiting for Jack’s story and what an amazing journey this is. Jack and Christy were best friends growing up and while she loved him, he broke her heart when he fell for someone else, and she left town. Jack has let grief rule his action so far, and when Christy comes back into town he is confused when she is determined to avoid him at all costs. Bring into the mix a matchmaking Carter, crazy antics, poker nights, and this is a fantastic story. This is a beautifully written story which is an emotional roller coaster, and filled with amazing secondary characters, second chances, witty banter, humor, friendships, twists, suspense, redemptions, and love, which all leads to a touching and entertaining riveting page turner. This gifted author has done an outstanding job in weaving this tale, and I look forward to reading more of her work.
I’m glad Jack finally gets his second chance at love with his best friend, Christy after all the pain he’s been through with losing his wife, Natalie. The start of Four Horsemen was pretty intense and a bit difficult to read, but it did set the stage for Christy and Jack to reconnect again and finally admit their love. I really enjoyed Jack and Christy’s relationship as well as her instant bond with Brody whom I adored. Giulia Lagomarsino’s storytelling has a way of grabbing my attention right from the beginning and not wanting to put the book down. I love the characters she creates, the humor and witty dialogue. I so enjoyed Jack and Carter’s friendship and their scenes alway make me laugh along with the Cortell brothers. Another relationship that had me laughing throughout this story was Abby and Christy. Their scenes together were hilarious. Love the balance of serious and light moments. Another great book in this series and looking forward to reading the next one.
I thought I was so ready for Jack's story but I was not ready at all. And lets’ just say the antics continue in this book. Jack had a lot of fences to mend and build new bridges to find peace. Christy ran when her heart was broken by her best friend and first love Jack. Many things have happened in the years that Jack Christy spent apart. Jack lost his wife Natalie; she was killed in tragic circumstances. Christy learns to be her without Jack in her life. Christy comes home after witnessing something awfully at work; Jack believes he can pick up where they left off, but for Christy, it doesn't work that way. Jack feels some peace when he sees Christy home but he can’t understand why she’s keeping him at arm’s length. I absolutely LOVED LOVED this story!!!!
4 stars - this book was really sweet. childhood friends to lovers (kinda). i usually hate the dead spouse trope, but i think this book did it super well! i didn’t feel like the heroine was just a filler for the dead spouse, at any time in the book.
the son was super sweet, just wish we maybe saw him closer to the h at the end (in an epilogue or something maybe). i didnt read the books before this series, but it was completely fine - i think i only missed a few references, but you could understand the backstory from context clues.
the heroine definitely annoyed me in some parts, just for being so clueless at points, especially when you take in the fact that she’s a literal social worker - but whatever, i still liked her for the most part.
i thought this book was maybe a bit too comedy/slapstick-y for me, and it lacked any real spice, but it was still good :))
